The problem comes when the person that feels does the diagnosis, and another problem is that several injuries do not produce pain in the heat of the exercise, but several hours later. Seeing the type of massage this pistols do, vibration and pressure mostly, it could be harmful for example in a tear of a muscular fiber. The diagnosis is specially hard in the forearm of a climber just after the climbing, the fonctional impotence might be due to anoxia, but also many other things. TLDR: I discourage the use of this by a non-professional, but if you are going to do it, at least don't do it before nor after an intense exercice.
