@@thefoxchamber Yep, I agree lol I can't wait to install everything but I pulled out the 331 and I'm going to be tearing it down and doing the body work and then painting it Oxford white etc. I'm P. I. F. on the dart shp block with billet main caps 427w and TEA TFS 240cc hi ports etc.. I'll be doing a full build set of videos on my channel. I'm not really a UA-camr but all my friends said I said document it. So I'm gonna do it 🤔💪🌮👊💯🏁🇺🇸🆘
I’ve been dealing with this issue with my square body since I built it. I’m using a Blueprint Crate Motor 350 with custom headers that almost touch the starter solenoid. When it’s hot outside and I drive the truck for more than 20 minutes and shut it off the starter just clicks (literally sounds like a dead battery). After waiting sometimes anywhere between 1 - 4 hours it starts right up without fail. I’ve never experienced the “drag” only the clicks. About 35% of the time I won’t even get a click. I’ve gone as far as replacing the the battery with the highest cranking amps I could find and replaced the cables with a larger gauge wire. I’m positive after over 2 years messing with this problem that it *is* heat soak-if I use a hose to spray the starter/ cables I can expedite the starting process (instead of waiting a minimum of an hour, it’ll start within minutes of being sprayed). It’s extremely frustrating.
When my car cranked slow sometimes,I went to a welding supply shop and had 2 gauge battery cables made. I don't know if it would work on your car,but mine cranks real fast now.
There has got to be an aftermarket solution for that heat soak issue. There has to be a shielding kit or an actual shielded starter kit that protects the starter
Interesting, I haven't had issues with my shorty headers just yet, but I've heard long tunes really have this issue. Hope this helps you in the long run buddy
Good job brother. I don’t know much about the headers wrap nor how much it does. I drive mine just normal and it cools normal, never had any problems. Let me know how it does in the long run
Too bad it didnt help much. From what I have found, it seems the header wrap AND the starter wrap seem to hold heat in. Some newer starter bodies are aluminum to dissipate heat. I'm thinking the wraps I have tried hold the heat in. I have removed them.
Can't remember if I told you but, change the hot wire from the battery to the starter. Make it bigger. Check all grounds. Maybe a bigger cranking amp battery. Clean the paint off your ground connection. Shouldn't need the header wrap. My 2 cents! ;-)
Hey Frank, I replaced the starter wire and the grounding points I checked. It only drags after I've been driving a while. Oh and the battery is 700 something cranking amps. Changing the starter cable did fix my initial problem with the start hanging.
I’ve heard of people using a ‘93 starter, it’s a bit smaller but the wiring is a little different, still should be an easy swap and give a little more room away from the header.
The wrap is easier to use wet after soaking in a bucket. "Theoretically" the wrap is supposed to increase HP hear, if it does it's minute. If those headers aren't stainless then the wrap will make the rot after awhile.
Awesome stuff! I have a question. Did you use mass air to tune your Mirco squirt? Or did you use the speed density option? I’m converting to Mirco now..
i went with hi torque starter and wrapped starter it my foxbody works great
Gonna wrap the starter this weekend
One thing I have done in the past is soak the wrap in water before starting and it seems to wrap easier and tighter. Good job!
you will probably need to wrap the H-pipe right by the starter as well.
@@HicksHouseVideos yea, I thought about wrapping that too. Thanks bro.

Haven't had any trouble with my fox but my iroc has terrible heat soak issuses. On 3rd stater now
Cool video!!! I'm not sure if I'm gonna wrap my 1200.oo pair of Stainless Works long tubes on my 427W I'm building
Yea, I don't know about that. Might have to show off the stainless, LOL. Cost too much to cover up. You beast goin' on.

@@matstang1993 that's gonna be a sweet build.
Check your ground strap or replace will make diffrence
Rgr
Run a ground directly from the battery to one of the bolts that attach the starter to the block.
I'll would wrap the starter .
Nice Looking GT. I had a 89 GT way back in the day.
Thanks
Have You tried using a starter shield or blanket (wrap)? Hopefully this will work for You. Thanks and good luck 🤞
I just bought a welding mat and cut it to size to wrap around my starter.
You might want to check out Heat shield products inc. They have a youtube channel. They make a thermal sleeve for your starter.
10-fo👍🏾

Make sure you check your cables to see if their corroded, and it'll cause the issues or have the same symptoms as heat soak.
@@thefoxchamber Much respect, thank you
That’s how my foxbody is. Does the same exact issue as your square body, hence why I’m on this video lol. Ever figure it out?
battery cable Corroded on the inside
What’s your exhaust setup? Sounds nice
Bbk headers, pypes xpipe super 10 flowmaster.
I'd try wrapping the starter with heat shield. Foxbody life... Always something to be done lol
I tried that Mike, didn't work. I used the DEI starter wrap.
I'll try it with the header wrap
@@thefoxchamber There you go, I think that if both is used it will work
Sure hope you get it fixed. I'm glad I'm no longer in the Foxbody life. Seems your always working on something.
Take care enjoy your day sir 🏁🇺🇸🦍
Yes you are ALWAYS WORKING ON SOMETHING!!! LOL 😂😂😂. It never seems to end. I guess I love it....... And you the same.
Heat shield the starter.
I'll try it with the header wrap
they sell a starter heat wrap that wraps around the starter it works great on mine

🤔🤔🤔 something to think about.
I have 2 gauge on mine also, however I did wrap my starter with adhesive heat shield. I think that's what its called. The back side is sticky..
@@4syth1 someone gave me a place to find some.
On my turbo setup I went from header wrap to header shield. Works just as good and it looks better.
I'll see if I can find one, thanks
Mine used to do the same thing bro. Get yourself a high torque mini starter from lmr it will solve your problem
LOL 😂🤣, that's what's on there now, hahaha

Bit of pre ignition can cause that too Jim. Maybe try bumping your timing down a degree or two. 👍
Thanks for the info 👍🏾. Probably will just to be sure.

Yea, it seems like I'm the only one with this problem, LOL 😂

Will do 👍🏾
Is it the starter or other electronic connections causing an issue??
I just installed mini starter and replaced the wiring. It just drags after it's run for a while.
Sounds more like a timing issue
Love the effort bro...keep rolling!🇱🇷🤟🦊💯🔥

I like the comment about not telling his wife about the scissors, lol. I have done that.
That wrap really works. It helps a lot on turbos and there down pipes. So you should be good with that on your headers.
I’ve heard of people using a ‘93 starter, it’s a bit smaller but the wiring is a little different, still should be an easy swap and give a little more room away from the header.
LOL, I have the mini starter in it now😂
I had the same issue with heat soak then went to a cheap mini starter still had issues. Then got a used Ford mini starter and solved all my issues.
buy a heat sleeve for a starter
Great looking shirt brother! Let me know how to get one man & as always great informative vid bud! 👊🏻
Thanks, will do
What size wheels are those??
18x9

The header wrap will help with scavenging which in theory increases horsepower
