    About Me:
I am a professional singer with 30+ years of experience living in Dublin (originally from Ohio) and singing regularly in cover bands throughout Ireland. Over my career, I’ve sang in bands such as “The Runaways” (not the Joan Jett band, we were only 15 at the time and hadn’t heard of her band - this was before the internet!), and “White Knights” - both of those bands in Ohio before I moved to Los Angeles and formed an original band called Mood Trip, which was fairly successful in the mid-late 90’s producing our own music (listen here: www.moodtrip.co...) and playing the sunset strip regularly (Whiskey, Roxy, Coconut Teazer), but eventually I married an Irish girl and moved to Ireland where I have sang with cover bands such as The Glitter Bugs, The Usual Suspects, Spring Break, and Masquerade. I have also recently started teaching vocal tutorials at BIMM Dublin as well as singing in cover bands regularly for a living now (scrapping the day job and focusing only on music since 2018). I have been lucky enough in my career to support Cher in Belfast SSE Arena 2019, and sing U2’s “Vertigo” with U2’s very own drummer Larry Mullen on the kit in 2016.
    Why listen to me?:
    * I didn’t start a good singer so I’ve learned a LOT over the years and I want to pass that learning on to YOU now.
    * I’ve made a TON of mistakes on the way and damaged my voice at times in the process of learning the right way to sing (via the WRONG way!) - with that, I can save you damaging your voice through bad techniques
    * I’m DOING it on a regular basis - performing is how I make my living so I am WALKING THE TALK OR TALKING THE WALK (whatever the phrase is)…
    * I CARE about YOU and serving you the best I can….why should I care? It’s my Dharma (life goal/path) to sing (perform for people) and help others who are learning to sing and perform, to help anyone who wants to get better…with that, THANK YOU for watching!!!

Glad they help! It's an honor to serve, and encouraging comments like yours help me to know I'm on the right track. As for not being 'as good'... just focus on being YOUR BEST - and shoot for 1% better than your previous day, and pretty soon you will be INSANELY AWESOME and far better!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment - appreciate you!!! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

Great video! The exercises helped me a lot in feeling the pressurization on my mixed range.

Great video, Jim! Holding air back is an amazing warmup. I try to go for time. Phonating for as long as I can comfortably. Being sure to bring in my belly with my tva muscles when I start to feel like I'm going to run out of air. If I can hit a min and ten seconds, then I know I'm good to move onto my next warmup. I try to earn my free flow singing sessions. Nice vocals and fry at the end!! :D

Seems like it's no coincidence that I belted and compressed easier while walking and worse while just standing.

    Hey Jim!
Thanks for your inspiring and helpful videos.
It would be great if you could explain the singing Style of Greg Graffin of Bad Religion.
    And:
You are definitely the Kiefer Sutherland of Rock-UA-cam! :-)

Hi Alex! Good suggestion! I'll put him on my list! His tone and power (circa 1996 era) remind me of Corey Taylor (without the screaming and less grit) and thanks for the Kiefer Sutherland shout - he was great in Lost Boys! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!!! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

When trying this im able to add compression to the lower part of my range - which sounds abit like Macho Man Randy Savage, but when i get to the higher parts of my range and try to add compression my voice crashes. Do u know what im talking about? any advice? thanks!

Hi Noam, it's hard to say not having heard you but it may be down to support, or position of your larynx... consider booking a 15min consultation on my website rockyourbestvocals(dot)com and maybe I can hear/diagnose then...
