    I remember seeing an interview with Cruise shortly after the film was released where Cruise was talking about the read throughs for that scene. He stated that Nicholson delivered those lines exactly that way every time the scene was read through and Cruise said the hairs stood up on the back of his neck every time Nicholson delivered his lines. He went on to say that read throughs are usually done without the acting - just reading the lines. But Nicholson 'acted' out every scene and his delivery never changed. A brilliant man showing his brilliant skills.

    As iconic as all the lines in this scene are one of the things l love the most is the expression on Tom Cruise's face after the confession. His whole expression just screams "I can't believe this crazy plan worked and I actually got him to confess on the stand". It is such of great example of acting without words, nothing but body language and facial expressions.

      Makes me eyes burn, we don't do that. That's a army thing saluting indoors like he does. Marines only salute on duty when reporting and wearing a cover. Never without it, ever. If he did want to look like a Marine, he would come to the position of attention, Caffey being a officer in the navy that are trained to work with and support Marines, he is a new officer after all. Would acknowledge this gesture of respect, he would then tell him to dismiss. A informal handshake might be offered by Caffey, as per protocol.

      It goes even further back than that. When Kaffee asked "When Lieutenant Kendrick spoke to the platoon and ordered them not to touch Santiago, any chance they ignored him?", the answer which would have gotten Jessup off the hook would have been "Yeah, those two guys over there ignored Kendrick and disobeyed a direct order." But Jessup's ego wouldn't allow him to claim that something happened on his base which wasn't explicitly ordered by him.

After the fact, he can't believe he's being charged with a crime. He gave an order, and that's the end of it. Everything else, the cover-up, the trial is all BS to him. Kaffee cottoned onto this and was able to put Jessup in a place where he just wants to say and do what he wants, by ordering him to sit down, by treating him with no redirect, by making him feel stupid by repeating previous testimony, like a child. By then, Jessup's had enough of the crap. He just wants to say what happened and go back to being the boss. Brilliant.

      It's actually great how real-life made Jessup's claims of being the protector of America even less sense when claiming the Cubans will kill them all, like how he claims them taking potshots at officers, when in reality they would do no such thing as even why would they invite that kind of trouble?

    Fun Fact: Shooting this scene Nicholson wanted everyone to stay on set while he did the take 3 times, each more emotional then the last....no break in between them either, just a pause, then back to yelling again. Solid actor.

    What a great scene. The entire movie hinges on the colonel voluntarily incriminating himself in the stand, that is not an easy thing to deliver believably. Jack Nicholson does such a good job with it, also the script writers and even Tom Cruise

    Fun little tid bit, after the line "The witness is excused, Nicholson no longer has his tie on after having it the entire scene.. Kind of funny they would overlook that. Still one of the best movies of all time.

    When Jessup turns away at 5:10, his necktie appears to be missing, or at least so disarranged that the knot is concealed by the collar. A couple of seconds before it was still in place.

    Sad thing about the ending is the Two Marines so proud to be marines to be a marine you have to dedicate your life to it with honer,
    “Dishonourable discharge that’s the World falling out of a marines arse”
    Many failing foul of this charge, join the Legionaries in France 🇫🇷 were they can achieve once again honer & actually on retirement possibly get the finest retirement in the World
    But let’s not loos sight this is a film (based on a real life event, I don’t know)
    But a very moving film provoking much thought 👍

    I always liked to venture on the Post Scripts, and what would’ve happened afterwards;
    Colonel Jessup would later be tried, and was offered a plea bargain, but refused, and was not only stripped of his ranking as Colonel, and removed from the USMC, but also sent to jail for life without parole. Kendrick was later arrested for accessory after the fact, and took a plea deal to receive a lighter sentence, which included his disgrace from the USMC. Downey would never recover from this, and sadly took his own life after he was removed from the USMC. Dawson on the other hand managed to get back on his feet, and became a Warden for a Prison Infirmary, showing the same respect he received after his dismissal. Most of the Court Personals would continue their jobs, except Galloway, who decided to retire, and become a recruiter. As for Ross & Kaffee, they remain a good team from opposite sides, and for Kaffee’s recognition, he was promoted to Captain of the USN for his distinguished work. A final note was that the family of Santiago were able to allow him to have a proper burial, and was compensated for the wrongful death of their beloved family member.
    This is only based on the Movie Plot, but we know that some do get away with wrongful acts unbecoming to any military soldier, and that we can only hope that people can learn from this, so they don’t have to make the same mistakes in the future.
