Bro, I was lucky enough to be at many of these games, seventh row. My brother and I used to joke about "here come the guys from the factory." None of the Celtics looked like athletes. Black, white it didn't matter. They looked like dudes off the street. But they played like the damn Harlem Globe trotters. This stuff you're seeing, this was every game. It was like the most important thing to each of them was that people would be amazed. They didn't seem to care about personal stats. Winning, and winning while amazing people was what mattered. We knew we were witnessing something special.
You guys are right. The Boston Celtics are hardworking, blue collar types. Except that worked at a factory that turned out HOF and LJB was the Foreman The Lakers were Hollywood/Showtime
I watched Jordan score 63 against the Celtic's in a losing effort and no one was cheering, even in Chicago but go back and the Bird's entire 60 point game, he was making one crazy shot after the other and everything was dropping no matter how ridiculous the shot! I have never seen anything like it, as the announces were saying "we are witnessing the greatest shooting exhibition ever", even the Hawk's knew they were witnessing something special.
and Bird was doing this at a high level against Magic, Kareem, Worthy of the Lakers....bad boy Pistons...Ewing's Knicks...Wilkins' Hawks...Miller/Pacers...Malone/Stockton Jazz...and more telling, Jordan/Bulls had an 11-23 Record (0-6 in playoffs) against Bird/Celtics (Jordan never got the best of Bird and was happy to see Bird retire)...a truly underrated player who hasn't received nearly the amount of hype that he deserves and it's refreshing to see the renewed love/attention Larry is getting from the UA-cam age allowing newer generations to see just how amazing he was (and how he would still put up ridiculous numbers today)
So true! Watching Bird on the court was watching a master play. The ball was a feather in his hand with just enough weight to guide it wherever Larry wanted it to go.
I watched that game live when Isiah threw the inbound pass...I guarantee you, no one on TV or in that arena saw that coming, but Larry Bird. When it happened, it took a second for it to register cuz it literally came out of no where and i about lost my wig. In the replay, you can see Larry is already measuring it up, way before anyone knows WTF is going on. Larry Bird was amazing.
it's a great, great game to watch the whole thing....it was a back and forth game with a ton of lead changes in the 4th quarter. The Pistons were the obvious up and comers with a real deep roster and they went on to get two rings, and they were hoping to get to that next level. Thing that was so shocking about this steal was originally everyone thought it was Celtics ball, so if you look at the Celtics....nobody is guarding anyone defensively except BIRD! Everyone in that arena thought that game was over...and the series was over...that the Pistons would go home and close it out.
If you watch the Atlanta Celtics game where he got that 60 points you'll see why at the end they were like eff it. Larry is hot! He was literally calling his shots that night.
Magic & Larry, resurrected the game of basketball......My dad loved basketball, but stopped watching, until the competition between Johnson & Bird was highlighted......What my Dad used to say, about Larry's game, is that it reminded him of someone, who was not only playing basketball, but also, volleyball, dodgeball, hockey, baseball, football, soccer, & strategic chess, all at the same time, and was what made him so great 😊He certainly was one of the most unique and gifted players, I have ever watched!
Magic showed up to Birds retirement ceremony, but didn't have an undershirt, so he was given a Celtics one to wear under his Lakers jacket. In that ceremony, Bird opened up his Lakers jacket to expose the Celtics undershirt. Bird: "I just couldn't let it go. I had to show the audience that Magic always wanted to be a Celtic." 😆
The other teams guys were cheering for the clinic of pure talent that Larry Legend was putting on. None of those guys were going to be stepping out there and doing better. They were just happy to be able to witness the excellence on display.
LARRY LEGEND IS MY TRUE GOAT 🐐 Welcome to Larry’s Legend! As you’ve seen, Larry fully deserves all the praise us old heads heap on him. We are determined to NEVER LET HIS LEGACY DIE!
You on the larry train now pal. Larry and magic were the saviours of basketball without those two there would have been no jordan kobe lebron or durant. They played during the most talented period of basketball which makes it more impressive. Top reaction my friend hopefully more bird and magic reactions. His thrash talking one is quite good. Slainte from ireland.
back then, larry bird was the john wick of basketball. he was a killer other killers would tell scary stories about. every legend who played around that time will have stories of just how damn dangerous larry legend was.
Great job Smitty. Yeah, I know how great Larry Legend was. I'm a Bulls fan and we could NEVER beat him, no matter what we tried. Even with Michael! I hated him then, but my respect for him has no bounds. In the G.O.A.T. conversation I still have MJ #1, Larry #1A.
If you love something, you can admire someone who's very good at it. The other team cheering him shows their love of the sport, as well their respect for him
Awesome reaction, as always!! Man, every single time I see these highlights, I’m still downright amazed. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were DECADES ahead of their time with moves like this Also, just for fun, here are some Larry Bird fun facts: 1. Larry Bird invented and popularized the step back. I see a lot of people disrespecting some of the all-time great defenders of the 80s since they see Larry Bird breaking their ankles with a “simple” step back and say they must not have been all that great, but honestly, they were legitimately AWESOME. It was just that when Larry first debuted that move to the league, they had ZERO idea what in the world it was and had no clue on how to handle it. Larry’s move was so good that it’s now a staple, lol 2. Larry and Magic were so symbolically linked IRL that it was actually nuts. If there was a Hollywood movie that tried to show two star players being as closely and symbolically linked as these two were in reality, people would call BS and call the movie unrealistic. It’s why, IMO, you can’t talk about Larry Bird without mentioning Magic Johnson and vice versa, and why you can’t have highlight videos for one without showing some from the other 3. Since these highlights featured Reggie Miller, something that I find interesting to mention is that 1) In addition to his super talented older sister Cheryl, Reggie actually patterned a LOT of his game after Larry Bird 2) Larry had ENORMOUS amounts of respect for Reggie. Rookie!Reggie held his own against Larry and those dynasty Celtics so well that Larry actually wanted to coach the Pacers after he retired from being a player, and he even outright said that Reggie would be one of the all-time greats after they first played against each other 4. Michael Jordan admits that he learned everything that he knows about trash talk from Larry Bird
It is good to see a young dude like yourself appreciate what he's seeing. Larry's era was the deepest, most talent-rich time in basketball history. His list of victims reads like a who's who of the Hall of Fame. Speaking of the Hall of Fame, that is exactly where 3 of Larry's "role player" teammates (McHale, Parish, Johnson) are enshrined. Danny Ainge was also a perennial all star. Bill Walton, who I believe, is also HOF, wasn't even a starter. The 1980's Celtics were LOADED. The 1986 team, in particular, was the best ever, in the opinion of many. It's close between them and the 1995 Bulls. I give it to the Celtics, simply because the NBA, as a whole, was stronger in 86 than it was in 95.
The percentage between Magic and Bird made it almost necessary to get out a magnifying glass. Originally, they did not really like each other but at a shoot they were doing in French Lick, Bird's Mom told him to bring Magic home with him. When Magic got there, Bird's Mom hugged Magic and told him that she loved him. They became best friends. Some of the players in the league said that Bird was not white, but that he was "Clear".
I was amazed how good this man was I grew up a Dr. J FAN. IAM WATCHING THESE HIGHLIGHTS AND DAMN I GOT TO SAY THE greatest all-around baller of all time.
First time coming through. I love your reaction. I've seen this mix tape so many times I feel like I'm Bird taking and making those shots. But you were funny as fuk. Good job.
I grew up in this era. By far best era of nba basketball by far. Love to see youngsters doing their due diligence and learning their history. Dig deeper into Bird and your recerence for Bird will def grow. Please check out making the case fir Larry Bird and making the case for the 86 Celtics. McHale Parish and DJ and Bill WaLton are all hallof famers. But LB made them tick. But YOU GOTTA CHECK OUT THE 86 CELTICS. good job bro
Fun fact about the retirement ceremony… there was no game that night. The Garden completely sold out that night to watch Larry Legend retire. That man was the truth.
Great reaction man! Keep making more Larry Bird Reaction Vids! You got to check out his trash talking story vids, and his injury vids.....he played with like 3 career ending injuries and he would just say, "give me a beer" and go make buckets!
Not even sure if you'll read this. But you should. I watched at least 90% of Birds games in person at the old Garden or on local Boston tv. He was by far the most unique player of his time. He had a vertcle of only 38 inches. Was very slowly afoot & not quick. Yet he dominated the game. How? His brain. The smartest player who ever laced on a pair of sneakers.
After that game where the other team was cheering for Larry, the coach fined those three players $10k each. Then he replayed the game on video and kept rewinding that section, when they cheered Larry, about 25 times. He wouldn't let them forget it.
Loved your reaction to one of the best to play the game! Magic said as much! I just found your reaction so I’ll look to see if you did more on Larry Bird. It’s fun to hear from other players, from his time, talk about him. So much respect!!
I'm from Boston Mass I was a teenager when Larry was playing it was a 10 minute walk from my house to the Boston Garden it was the best time of my life it was crazy ☘️☘️☘️
Everyone is fascinated with Bird because he's white and he can play ball. He said basketball is a black man's game and that the best players were afro americans so he knew he had to play with his mind and skill. GOAT.
People talk about who his the GOAT in the NBA. They say different people, however, they don't give and criteria why. For me the answer is simple. The greatest all-around player in NBA history is Larry Bird and Magic Johnson is number 2. I did an analysis of 11 NBA players based on 7 different statistical categories and where in that category each player is. If they were not in the top 250 all time of that category they got a score of 250 for it. The categories are field goal percentage points per game assists per game rebounds per game steals per game blocks per game free throw percentage The 11 players I looked at are Bird Jordan Magic Abdul-Jabbar Kobe Lebron Durant Shaq Barkley Duncan Giannis Bird was the only player on the list in the top 250 all time of all the categories and in the top 60 of all time in 5 of the 7 categories. Bird averaged 77.7-first by far, but the surprising thing is how the rest of the list ranked. Here are 2nd thru 11th Magic - 97.6 Abdul-Jabbar - 117.0 Shaq - 118.3 Jordan - 118.7 Barkley - 121.1 Giannis - 127.9 Lebron - 128.9 Durant - 140 Duncan - 143.9 Kobe - 157.4 Like I said - it's not even close as to who the best all-around player of all time is.
Smith Family TV, great reaction, saw him from Senior year in college till now, a true Legend in his own time...live he was even crazier, this shit went on every single game...check his trash talkin and welcoming rookies to the league videos.. 🤙
Please watch the "greatest passer ever with re-edit" video to see how great of a passer Bird was!! Larry went to a 29 win team as a rookie as was the main reason Boston won 61 games = a 32 game turnaround. Bird won ROY and finished 4th in MVP. For the next 8 seasons in the MVP Bird was 2,2,2,1,1,1,3 and 2nd again. I once heard the description from another coach that "Bird is like a swiss army knife = anything your team needs, he can provide. Bird created the 50-40-90 shooting club, did it 2 seasons in a row and if you look back at his 85,86,87 and 88 seasons = Bird actually averaged 50-40-90 shooting over these 4 consecutive seasons while averaging a per game of 28.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 6.8 assists. No other "goat" candidate can make this claim.
People don't realise that these guys knew Larry, they knew he was an excellent shooter and passer. If they tried your typical defense he would just fake you out, they couldn't guard him like that. In the end all they could do was slow him down, he was unguardable. He outplayed the defense no matter what.
Larry Bird is easily my favorite player of all time. Because of that I’ve been watching people react to his highlights to see the reaction from people that didn’t know how cold Larry really was and you’re the first person I’ve seen the actually knew that that jab step ankle breaker was against Dominique. Larry didn’t just just cross over some random run-of-the-mill shitty ass six string bench player. He crossed over one of the best players to ever play the game.
The one thing this video didn't show was that after Magic gave Larry the jersey, Magic took his shirt off and was wearing a Celtics shirt. True friend.
Bird made McHale and Parrish into hall of famers cause that's what elite players do and in those highlights did you ever see Walton on ther court with Larry legend also Bird didn't go and take other superstars from other teams
Im slowly making a comeback. I had my entire life change in 2 years. So your subscription is very much love and appreciated. Thank you and hope you have a great week❤️🤞🏾
Would love your reaction to the 1985/86 season highlights, 50 greatest Larry Bird assists, best trash talking Larry Bird, & making the case for Larry Bird by Clayton Crowley. I didn't mind your pausing. Haters going to hate. We watch these reactions to get your point of view. ❤ 💙 💜
Larry was a Unicorn as you mentioned SmithFam. He was one of I believe the top 5 players ever. He was 1 through 10 the best white player ever, not that the color of your skin matters to Jesus The Christ. His first 8 years match up with anyone’s first 8. His biggest weakness was he was from an extraordinarily poor family from a town of 1500. When he signed the contact to play for the Celtics he did things which were unnecessary like diving into the crowd for a loose ball when his team was up 25 or taking a charge from a Moses Malone in an exhibition game. He also smashed 3 disks in his back paving his mothers backyard when he was Rich beyond his wildest dreams.
The reason why Atlanta's bench is going so crazy for their witnessing greatness and during that game near the end Larry birds even said to him they were both having a great game these are two bad somebody's got to lose and of course it wasn't Larry and that's steal taught Detroit a valuable lesson that helped them win their two championships it ain't over till the clock says zero
Him and kobe were the only players who shot a behind the backboard shot with actual skill and not just luck. As far as I know, Larry's the only one who threw more than one.
Laker coach Pat Riley said if he had to choose a player to win the game, he would pick Jordan…if he had to pick a player to save his life..he would take Larry Bird..said in a interview….and remember Bird won 3 straight MVP’s..only two others in that category..Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain..my man from Kansas..although Wilt and KU lost in triple overtime in 1957..for the championship..Wilt is the only player anywhere at any level to score 100 points..which he did in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 1962 against the Knicks..and caught a ride with two Knicks driving back to New York..obviously at 7’2”…he was in the backseat pretending to sleep..I am from Kansas and consider KU in Lawrence to be the home of basketball..James Naismith..the inventor of the game of basketball..was the first coach at Kansas..and is buried at the university with his wife..1939..and the original 10 Rules of Basketball are behind glass in a building next to Allen Field House..and 3 years ago, KU passed Kentucky for all time wins..
You have to understand that bird only had five mostly healthy seasons and seven with injuries that would have retired every one else and I mean every one!
Smith Family Tv, good one guy, Larry Legend was sumthin else, if u wanna see another even earlier white player "unicorn" check out "Pistol Pete" Maravich, still the leading scorer in college history, 44 pts per game- no 3 point shot- the guy had insanse handles and passing and shooting abilities, trained by his coach father since very young- the guy was invited to join the Harlem Globetrotters out of college, but went to NBA instead, guy was a legend...ok ⚡️🤙😎
Thank you for the reaction younger generations NEED TO KNOW Why the NBA is still around it is because of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson NOT MJ OR LEBRON these 2 icons made the NBA what it still today and that is enjoyable to watch. Im going to tell you something young man because you seem to be able to handle TRUTH! Everyone says LeBron is Number 1 of all time greatest players Ill tell you why its not true Larry Legend played his entire career with the Boston Celtics and he didnt do it for the money because believe me when I say the players of the 80s got Chump change compared to these posers of todays game Larry played for the love of the game the competition he played for the framework of his team not for himself! Thats why I know LeBron may be a GOAT but he will never have that edge of basketball competitiveness that Larry and Magic had and never will! Great reaction young man from an old Celtic Fan!!
Thx I enjoyed that check out Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and magic Johnson telling funny stories about each other 🐐🐐🐐 you'll really enjoy it THX again 🐐👍
One last thing before I go..the GOAT, Michael Jordan was 0-6 ..that is 6 playoff years..The Bulls and MJ never beat Bird and 2 years running..were swept..one game Michael scored 62 points to set a new playoff record..but Chicago lost 135-132..plus Bird was a Coach of the Year in 1998..and as President of the Pacers..voted Executive of the Year..and I didn’t even know that was a thing..and at the age of 60..while the Pacers were on the court practicing he came out of the office in loafers, picked up a ball..and hit at least ten straight threes..then went back in the office..according to his players..

Bird was the only player on the list in the top 250 all time of all the categories and in the top 60 of all time in 5 of the 7 categories.
Bird averaged 77.7-first by far, but the surprising thing is how the rest of the list ranked. Here are 2nd thru 11th
Magic - 97.6
Abdul-Jabbar - 117.0
Shaq - 118.3
Jordan - 118.7
Barkley - 121.1
Giannis - 127.9
Lebron - 128.9
Durant - 140
Duncan - 143.9
Kobe - 157.4
Like I said - it's not even close as to who the best all-around player of all time is.
Yay! You put it here too!
Larry legend 🐐
Smith Family TV, great reaction, saw him from Senior year in college till now, a true Legend in his own time...live he was even crazier, this shit went on every single game...check his trash talkin and welcoming rookies to the league videos.. 🤙
You're funny hahaha..Larry aint right....Hello from East Coast Canada!!!
People like to point out the Hawks bench reaction, but the funniest thing about that play was Bird falling into the trainers lap!
Great reaction video!
Larry was a true King of the Court, most people still consider him a Top 5 or Top 10 All time player at any position.
Good job here
i was waiting for the sky hook line manybe next time:) nice little rap
Bird was very soft spoken while he talked trash….
Larry bird is top 5 dead or alive. Defenders had to bite on Larry's fakes or he would just shoot it in their face. Great reaction.
Mr. BIRD 🐦
Larry Bird was a frightening opponent...
I'd say he had little more than role players around him. McHale, Parrish, Dennis Johnson and Bill Walton are all in the Hall of Fame
Bird made McHale and Parrish into hall of famers cause that's what elite players do and in those highlights did you ever see Walton on ther court with Larry legend also Bird didn't go and take other superstars from other teams
I know this is two years later but I subscribed ❤
Im slowly making a comeback. I had my entire life change in 2 years. So your subscription is very much love and appreciated. Thank you and hope you have a great week❤️🤞🏾
Sending you link to react to. Larry bird greatest passer of all time video re-edit. AMAZING
Hey man cool touch with the edits, dive into larry bird videos
Him and kobe were the only players who shot a behind the backboard shot with actual skill and not just luck. As far as I know, Larry's the only one who threw more than one.
He scored 15 pts after he came back from that fracture.
Check out the "Making the case" videos.
You have to understand that bird only had five mostly healthy seasons and seven with injuries that would have retired every one else and I mean every one!
Could u imagine Larry playing in today's game??!! LOL
Larry was playing in the NBA, but he looked like he was just hoopin at the park on some fools.
In case anyone was wondering, the greatest play was at 11:57.
Nice comments. I enjoyed you as much as Birdy
Koby is like larry
Not the othere way young man.
Bird and Magic were mirrors when it came to playing except Bird was a better 3 point shooter. Larry Legend!!!!
Larry bird trash talk
If you haven't seen the college Goat look at Pete Maravich. 44.2 ppg no 3 point line and only played 3 years!!!
So that retirement ceremony, that wasn't before or after a game, that was the whole thing. People sold out the stands for just that.
Check out his greatest passes
react to celtics and hawks famous 3rd quarter. I believe it's 1986.
FIRST let's correct your wrong speech and thinking it's LARRY LEGEND is the coldest basketball player of ALL-TIME yes ALL-TIME he's the GOAT
Watch more Bird videos.
