Ice learned so much from these videos, they're great. I'm a groundsman but soon to acquire my climbing licenses and these have been a great headstart. Thank you.
I like the port-a-wrap the best. I have just started srt this year (after 22 years of climbing) and have used canopy ties. I like being able to switch back and forth between srt and mrt. I also haven't had a job where I was willing to commit to a crotch from the ground. I could see the advantages of it though. Had a hell of a time pulling my canopy anchor out last week as I had come down through the tree, leaving the working end over a couple of branches.
Very important: If you do decide to make the lowering base anchor, you need to have enough rope on the behind the descending system to lower the person! He didn’t make a point of it in the video but it is probably the most important detail if you do decide to use that kind of anchor, it could be deadly if you ran out of rope X_X
I've been in situations when rope was short and I tied in a second rope above anchor using a 6 wrap prusik. Not a perfect solution but it does work in a pinch. after the second rope is tied into a second anchor just put a stopper knot at base of first rope to avoid the prusik sliding off. This is also how you would rescue a climber if regular base tie is used. Tie in second anchor and prusik your second rope onto the first rope before releasing first anchor.
Great video, as always, just what I was looking for. I've been doing basically this with the figure 8 but I've been using a wire core lanyard around the tree and I think I want to do something a little different. A little concerned about all the hook snaps. Probably just paranoia. I have some brand new climbing rings to use. I'm a novice with tons of gear and not enough experience. Thanks!
Interesting. Coming from a climbing/SAR-rope rescue background it’s interesting to note the difference between the two systems. The main thing I see is the loads. You need only support the climber whereas we need to support the rescuer and his/her equipment, the stretcher/basket, and the patient. Consequently our anchors and belay systems are much more robust and are dual rope systems. Nice insights, thanks.
Knowledgeable, but you need to have slow close ups with your knots and techniques for someone to truly learn. If you are already an arborist this would be a good video but not for a green climber.
@@dungeonmaster6292 Exactly, these video's are good if you have experience with a doubled line system or basic climbing experience so you can see other techniques and the pros/cons. You really shouldn't be trying to learn climbing or load bearing knots from a UA-cam video, there's no room for mistakes with your life line.
Something that wasn't mentioned is that yes, the anchor will hold twice your weight with a base anchor, HOWEVER it maximizes the compressional force on the wood itself. As you pass through several redirects, the strength of the entire tree acts as a reinforcement.
Hi I'm looking to do a course in Arboriculture. Its a 4 years course tho. I've learned a lot of teqniques from you and Bino H. My question is for the basal anchor, I thought you have to tighten a rope like a ratchet strap? Do you ever use big D shackle for anchors? Any reply appreciated cheers from Australia just subbed.nice work 🙂👍👍👍.
I wish the camera shots would stay still on the rope instead of moving around so much. I would like to learn the first two that you’re demonstrating there with the camera keeps moving so much.
Nice rescue setup, but i'd reccomend you use the long end of the rope for that. If one were to start rescue you from the goodness of their heart, you'll be descending pretty damn quickly...and you'd be lucky to end up in the back of an ambulance instead of elsewhere. Minor detail, huge impact... right?
I think it goes without saying that you need a rope with a long enough tail to safely lower an injured climber to the ground if using a lowerable base anchor, otherwise the lowering function is pointless.
@ This sort is technique shouldn't be attempted by someone who hasn't got experience and knowledge in this area. Not to mention, you shouldn't watch one video and immediately go and try it.
We try and give great information in an easy to understand way, not too short, not too long but everybody naturally is different in what they want to watch. We appreciate your comment very much Justin, I’m glad you watched the video, took in the info and read the other comments to give your own take 🙏
If you use a running bowline check this out so you don't kill yourself ua-cam.com/video/Jj42B8eCOzc/v-deo.html. I am not a professional or expert but I think this is a pretty important point about using a Yosemite finish on a bowline
Seams like a good presentation but the closer views of what is being done are split-second (literally) and not very frequent. We are being talked at but only shown what's going on from 15+ feet away. I suppose it's a 'refresher summary' for practicing arborists. It's not much help for the rest of us. I will consult other sources to learn the details.
How in the world do you think we can learn anything when you tie so fast we cannot tell what you are doing? Not to be a jerk but I just don’t understand

Super helpful. I just ordered gear to make a base-anchor like you showed, with ability to lower the climber.
Great video thanks for posting
I love base ties almost always use them except on a removal so much easier to hit your primary tie in point from the ground instead of isolating limbs
Dan great video.
🤙

Absolutely.... I was thinking the same - enough rope and a stopper knot......

Glad you enjoyed it
Yeah bro thanks for teaching 🤙🏼
Shaka brah!

Saya ingin bertanya bagaimana caranya agar mengurangi resiko friksi pada tali..??
Nice.. tnx for the info.. i do rafel ..run down for mountain climbming
Good Video. Thank You!
Thanks!
Would you consider showing that running bowline again, but slowly, for beginners?
Thanks

really needs medium and close shots cut in to effectively learn. thanks for sharing this information. you are a good teacher.
In reality you shouldn't be learning how to do this stuff online.

If the rope is tied to the tree at the base how is it possible for someone from the ground to lower someone in the tree?
You use a knife :P
With a butterfly over your prusik easy. But you need to make it befor there is weight on the rope. And you need another climbing System for sure.
I wish the camera shots would stay still on the rope instead of moving around so much. I would like to learn the first two that you’re demonstrating there with the camera keeps moving so much.
Your using a hi vis critical climbing line around the tree, as an anchor?
Mr. Thomas Maslar hi viz is a good choice because then it is nice and visible to your groundcrew who might be working close to it with chainsaws.
some people would find a reason to criticize anything
the video capture angle is too far from the angle to be shown in making the bond..people don't seem to want to see what is to be conveyed ..

Too many comments about you go too fast, it's fine just grab a pen and paper and do your research to fill in the gaps!

I wish your videos were more up close to what youre actually doing
Sorry. But I cannot see what the heck ur talking about to understand it.
You teach high angel safety line nothing
Pla teach proper Iam Filipino
