  • Today's video is the review of the adidas Supernova Prima, the top of the line shoe of the renewed Supernova family at adidas. The adidas Supernova Rise comes at €170 and will work for people with higher mileage. But how does it compare against the Supernova Rise? Is it even worth looking at the Rise when the Prima's midsole is simply better?

    Bought my size 9 primas direct from Adidas, 1st on foot feel was great, upper was really nice, 1st run was really nice as well reminded me of the Asics Nimbus 25 but with more roll off the toe, did a 10k recovery a day after a hard half so legs were a bit sore but no issue, legs felt much worse after the run which was not normal, rest day next day and then another few 10k easy days and felt ok, infact really like the way it feels on the foot at easy, recovery etc. two days later did a tempo run and this is when it started to go wrong, the leg soreness from 1st day seem to come back which never happens on my strict routine runs and an odd pain between the ball of foot and arch, just minor but noticeable. then had a few days in my skyward X for the support. Another run in the prima and the pain came on again in the foot stopped and felt inside the shoe and can feel an indent exactly where the pain started, removed the insole and can feel in the midsole just where there seems to be a cut out circle, both shoes were the same!! now im 6ft tall and super lean 70kg so not a heavy runner, strava tells me i did 66k in the shoe and it got worse and worse. My gait is neutral, everything about the way i run is quite normal so i cant blame myself, no issues with Boston 12's adios pro3 or strung 2's. MAY just be my pair but they were wrong, that indent in the midfoot area just before the ball of foot started to cause planter strain issues so buyer beware if it is not just my pair. luckily mine were on an Adidas 30 day trial so they have been sent back. Lovely looking shoe though and really wanted it for a daily/easy/recovery to go along with the Bostons, pro 3's and strung 2's.

      There is more information in this comment than in the review!

      I haven't bought shoes in a while but you said nimbus 25 with roll tech. Sold!

    Really agreed. I m a Adios Pro 3 and BS12 users. I try both rise and solution, expected to buy one for my comfy pace shoes. They have the same weakness of having too much ground feel from a thin but very soft foam. I was thinking about the same why Adidas didn’t reduce the drop and add some millimeters to the midsole.
    Eventually, I bought a pair of Solution since I didn’t see any point to buy Rise.
    Will checkout the Prima this weekend in Bangkok.
    Thanks for the review.

    This video cannot be labelled a ‘review’, we only get a barebones description, almost no information about the ride or best use of the shoes. The comparison with the Rise could be a separate short video.

      Thanks for sharing. It’s indeed short and to the point but I agree that it is more of a discussion around the supernova family rather than a per se review of the Primal.

    Hello Alex. Rise is lighter than Prima but Rise has less foam in the farefoot. I think that tha choise depends on the heavy or light runnner and the feeling on the ground. Maybe Prima is a bit better if you want to do long runs in order to prepare a marathon. My question is about the Adistar 3 (lighter than Prima and Rise), where can we put this shoes? It costs less as well.

      Yes I agree... Supernova seems to be the "first running shoes mix" now, and SL2 the first Adizero running shoe.
      And one problem not solved is widening options to beginner and not ideally fit runners. Seems to me running shoes lineup tend to be a neutral daily trainer then a super trainer and then a split between 5-10k or 21-42k racers.
      It works as a progression to performance focused runners, but not anyone wants to be more than a fitness or recreational runner.
      So it seems to me Adidas widening the base of the performance pyramid so more people can start running and jogging.
      And one step back: many people will use Supernova mix as a combo between walking and running. Running shoes reviews usually forget about walking...
      Aaaaand my personal opinion.. I think this dreamstrike foam is just too soft for me. I'm heavy and soft foams tend to bottom down, losing all the cushioning purpose. The solution companies use to offer heavier runners are 1. Lose weight because many shoes of my line ain't good for heavy people; 2. Use high stack soft foam midsole shoes. But, to me, mildly firmer shoes (like Boston 12's) a bit lower stacked works best than a maximalist slab of foam that will be less stable.
      All that said, seems to me Adidas is feeling what the market wants.
      If youbtember, the strong 24' SL2 was born as the long ago SL20 ant it thin flat slab of bricky Lightstrike 1.0 .... not marketed properly, just discounted tossed for whoever wanted a racer feeling in a entry running shoe... I had to Google it to find some international article, because here in Brazil there was just the shoe and the low price for a new midsole, a rocker front and a good Continental rubber outsole in an intermediate shoe. That went a long way of development till hyped SL2...
      Supernova 1-3 was less a runner shoe and more a walking / comfort (even if marketed as first running shoe).
      So I think it makes sense as product development experimenting strategy.

    I ran in both Rise and Prima and I think the ride is much better in Prima. Also the thinner tongue in Prima is better IMHO.

    • @AlexFilitti
      @AlexFilitti  8 днів тому

      I agree the ride is better in the Prima. So you agree with me that it’s odd both coexist in the Supernova family?

    • @TolunayOrkun
      @TolunayOrkun 8 днів тому

      @@AlexFilitti I think they wanted to create Ghost/Glycerin like duo. However, one only needs one of these and I think that one is Prima.
      If someone needs a faster companion SL2 is a good choice. Prima for easier/longer runs and SL2 is more tempo/shorter runs.

    What are your thoughts of the Prima vs the Vomero 17? Any preference from your side?

    The Prima does have a different tongue than the Rise as well.

    Isn’t Prima noticeably heavier than the Rise?

    Adidas is making too many Supernovas right now that all sort of look the same:)
    What makes it even more confusing is the older Boost models which are also called Supernova.

    I vastly preferred the Rise, oddly enough. Midsole felt different to me.
