I have the Tele and mine is just a little neck heavy. I've been thinking about rigging up some kind if weight on the strap lug to compensate for the light weight of the body. Needs a pound or two.
Neck dive standing with a strap is quite different than while playing seated w/o any strap. The Jazzmaster and Strat both have ok balance while played standing due to the front strap button’s position being closer to the guitars tuners.
There I was listening to this while looking away, thinking “nice intro solo Pete” only to turn and see The Captain playing. I think this opening solo is one of the best thugs I’ve heard you play Lee. Really nice!

Thank you for this, gentlemen! Marvelous playing and demos. I brought a Jazzmaster home for two weeks. Tried everything I could think of - Tone Bone preamp, delays, reverbs, 10 band EQ, all played through my usual amps - 2 Fender Acoustasonic 90 watts. I compared it to my Brazilian Morgan OM - (hand built in Vancouver), with a Stage Pro system in it. Also to a much cheaper Seagull Maritime with solid back and sides. ...To say that the settings represent the various guitars that Fender is trying to emulate is like saying oatmeal tastes like chocolate cake. The settings definitely sound "like" acoustic guitars, but they are boxy, muted, and uninspiring guitars. I plugged into real live amps and pedals without the benefit of computer interface/effects. Your sound is great, but take this Jazzmaster outside to a live solo gig, and it sounds like an economy acoustic with a piezo to me. I wanted so badly for it to work for me, and I really enjoyed the humbucker, but it simply can't touch a real acoustic. To me, the Jazzmaster is the "least best" of the three that you demo. I am thinking I might try the Tele, like many others here. 4 days later - spent quite a bit of time with the Tele vs two different Jazzmasters (Yes, they sounded different, but similar). The Tele feels and plays better for me. I think it's simpler (just like a Tele) and doesn't aspire to as much, but it sounds more like an acoustic to me. I was listening from an angle that I couldn't see the screen. 3 times I came around to see which one Pete was playing cause it sounded so nice. Each time it was the Tele. So it gets my vote.👍
The Tele is my pick. The acoustical tones just sound the most authentic to me. I just can’t see paying that much when I have other great guitars already.
I've been lucky enough in my 76 years to amass a lot of guitars, including a LP Custom, Custom Tele, an American Strat and a Martin.I play with a group of friends a couple of times a week and things get a bit loose (beer) towards the end of the evening. I don't want to take any of the above but I'm happy just to take the Tele Acoustasonic. It isn't as good as any of the above but its ok. One minute we're playing some Everlys stuff, then a bit of Folk, and then Sweet Home stuff. This thing does just about everything at the flick of a switch.
So glad I got the Tele! On the strength of this comparative demo, it comes across as overall best, though the Strat & Jazz Master trump it on a sound or two here & there. EQ & effects will surely make up any slack, as they’re all pretty similar sounding (and pleasing) to the ear….
Tele would suite the bill for me. I play in a “hybrid” acoustic duo. (Multi instruments) I never thought twice about these instruments until I viewed this video. Very, very intriguing!
I have had the strat version for 2 years and I am amazed by the versatility, usually don't even feel the need to plug it in but have a Fender GTX100 when I do. In this comparison the jazzmaster has a tin sound. The tele is close but strat is amazing. I sold all my other guitars,
What I like about the Tele is that all the models are musical. Not all music styles work on each model, but each model fits at least a few different styles.
I keep saying...another intro tune for the Cap and Dane album! I'll buy copy #1.... great, musically sound expression guys! I want all three at 30% the cost. Just can't do otherwise.... Thanks!
I agree with Pete, I have the Tele Acoustasonic and I love the sound directly into the board. Also sounds great through my acoustic amp! It does feel right also. Also you guys are my absolute favorite UA-cam channel to watch. Just too much fun, thanks!
Hey - I have all 3 of these guitars in these same colors, haha! They are all fabulous guitars. I like the Jazzmaster the best for its fuller, louder acoustic tone and slightly larger body plus its more overdriven humbucker option, but they're all pretty freakin' awesome.
saweet! I will say if you're writing ( literally using pencil and paper -- songwriting) and especially if you write left handed, (I play the guitar the "normal" way...left hand on the neck) the fact the tele doesn't spin off to the left is great! It's always been a peeve of mine I'm dinging up my guitar when I'm in writing mode. AND, same deal if going between guitar and keys - have to leave the guitar "unattended" in my lap when hands are on the piano. So bonus points for tele! 🙂. Yay! - plus Switching to electric mode, I actually think the tele electric mode had more bite than the strat (if what I hear on yer awesome video is accurate)...plus I got 5 strats to choose from if I want hard core electric strat LoL :-) .GReat comparison guys. This is exactly what I needed to see and hear. That woosh? Me scramming out the door to guitar center... 🙂
These are really way cooler than I expected them to be, and I'm glad I watched these two as a first window into this series of guitars. What an enjoyable demo. Well done guys. 👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Tough one! Sometimes the strat sounded most dope, sometimes tele and the full acoustic on jazz is sweet, but I think the tele will be my baby one day!🔥🔥🔥
As a lefty there’s only one option at the moment for me if I was going to get one (not by choice). But the thing I worry about is how future proof the battery is and if it’s a commercially replaceable option?
I’m so thankful for this review and demo! Visually I prefer the Jazzmaster. Tonally, I liked both the Jazzmaster and the Tele. The one thing that I find a little offputting is that the color of the forearm bevel is so different from the color of the top. There’s something so perfect about the outer body shapes of all the Fender guitars, and this little strip disturbs it. I think it’s why I’m most drawn to the “Butterscotch” color of the Telecaster-it is the one colorway where the color of the strip and the color of the top are most similar. I do appreciate why Fender added that bevel, though.
After watching and listening to a few vids of the three way comparison, the Tele has always won with my ears. It wins in every video I've seen without exception. Fender has really got something here and hopefully, I will be owning one soon. Thanks for this great video, guys!
Lee - you just became my guitar hero with that intro! I'm with Pete though. They all sound distinctly different to me. It's the Tele version all the way for me as well. The high end resonance is so much more defined (followed by the Strat, and the Jazzmaster just sounds muffled/muddy to me). Mod A, Voice 4, Maple Small body on the Tele was the absolutely the clincher for me. Damn, I love that tone.
Good job, boys. Being a MOR singer/pop-rock player, I could probably live with the Tele one with mild overdrive for the occasional solo. You did a very comprehensive video of all three models on all of the 1-5 pup positions and A-B settings. The Tele model just seemed to have the acoustic tones that really caught my particular ear with its classic wood combinations, richness of tone and presence, although it sounded thinner than the Jazzmaster unplugged, no biggie. Others might differ in their opinions, no doubt. I guess I would have to try it with some pedals or on my tube amps with dirty channels to see if the feedback factor would douse the dream or be controllable, ha. I like the dual body contours of the Strat and Jazzmaster, but I think the thin-line aspect of the Tele body with its integrated forearm contour, compared to a full size acoustic, would nonetheless likely seem very livable/comfortable on stage. Also, the classic rounder body shape of the Tele upper bout and butt, and its diminutive headstock somehow looked more symmetrical and acoustic guitar-like to me also. I think it would just look more natural onstage for someone like me, who plays a little pop-rock, but came from a folk and singer-songwriter background mostly. The color options are a bit limited, but livable. The other two are real cool also in their own ways for various genres. The Tele just seemed the one for me.
I absolutely loved the Telecaster's acoustic abilities! And with just enough crunch to contrast the dreadnought on the other end of the spectrum, this guitar would be a beast for looping!
Great compar-o video! The telejazacastostrater is clearly the best. But seriously, since I own the Telecaster model, I think it's the best, at least for me. It has the acoustic sounds I find most appealing and I just have a thing for the Tele shape. Maybe it's a mental disorder, I don't know. I wish I could get reparations from Fender for my Tele addiction (I own 5, including the acoustasonic). Comparing them unplugged is a study in which one sucks less than the others - but they all are a bit suck-y until you plug them in.
Bought the strat version just after Xmas from you guys. It’s a fantastic bit of kit to loop with, having the range of sounds at the flick of a switch is always joy inducing. If you want to take more of my money, a vid showing these off with some choice pedals would be ace!
This is what Xmas will sound like 😀 I'd love to see fender offer these as 'artist edition ' models. Peter buck, bob mould and frank black have decades of experience to dial into the voicings.
Im a telecaster guy at heart. I think the strat sounds the best. Jazzmaster definitely sounds the most different than the other 2. For me, I'd get the telecaster. It looks the most Nashville country and blues to me
The Jazzmaster's position 5 Dreadnought modeling seems the most convincing to me - seems to have the most 'space' areound the low end, and 'shine' on the high end. For a player who gets coloration out of where the string is struck (as well as other sorts of touch-sensitive aspects of acoustic coloration), the Dreadnought modeling on the Jazzmaster provides the biggest sonic landscape upon which to play with those possibilities - just like a great big D-style acoustic. I chose the Jazzmaster because it was convincing when a Fender engineer said the large size of the body gave them more acoustic energy to work with. After hearing this shootout, I'm glad I chose the Jazzmaster (although I agree with Pete about the neck-heavy neck dive aspect (so I just use a strap)). Great shoot, guys - thanks!
I am by no means a guitar expert, I played in bands a lot as a teenager and in my early 20’s and now I’m just about playing at home, writing and recording and having fun with it I just picked up the jazz master and I have zero regrets and will easily become my main axe of choice going forward
The value I see in the Acoustasonic Player Tele is its relatively affordable price, so it can be my travel guitar for which I wouldn't cry my eyes out if it broke or got stolen. Then it's fine for couch noodling, even singing quietly or - plugged into the aux of a good Bluetooth speaker, even sing along normally to. It can be the perfect guitar recording tool on the road, and if you need to perform in a pub, you're covered again! So, versatility! You see, since I'm not a pro musician and don't travel somewhere specifically to perform, I'm not going to fly abroad with my Fishman Aura Ellipse-equipped Gibson J-45 Gala which costs 2.5 times as much as a Mex Acoustasonic. Fab review and playing - a real treat as always!
Andertons fan here since 2010 while I was looking for a cheap affordable guitar! You guys were/are my heroes on reviews! Miss Chappers man. But videos willl always be quality 😍🤘🏻
Jazzmaster for me: shape + fuller sound. I use a strap with mine so I haven’t noticed any ‘neck dive’ - indeed, I find it to be a nicely balanced guitar with great output when noodling unplugged, and great sounding choices when plugged in.
Gee, Thanks guys you did it again! I was trying to justify buying one of these, and now I'm going to have to buy all THREE! If i can't retire because i own too much gear, it's Lee and Danish Pete's fault! :-)
I agree with Lee. They all sounded similar and not significantly different enough to determine a “winner.” So, like Lee said, I would pick one based on which shape I liked best, or which one felt the most comfortable during playing.
I purchased the Jazzmaster body. Here is what shocked me. I was held back for awhile because I felt the price was high for what I was seeing. Finally I broke down and got one. Once I got it I was overly impressed with the build quality and design. I have a 2011 516ce Taylor with ES2. We plugged it in to my Boss Acoustic amp which is amazing with that Taylor. We were both on shock because plugged in the Fender just sounded better than my Taylor. Hands down it just did. Unplugged no contest. The Taylor sounds amazing. If you are plugging in this is the bees knees of tones. The electric pickup is a cool bonus. For a front man or a guy going to PA you are not sacrificing anything using one, and the necks feel like an electric. I wonder how cheaper they could build it without the electric pickup and maybe a few more acoustic features? Yes Fender you need me in Marketing.
Absolutely love this range. Would love to have any one of them, but I think soundwise I'd love the strat the most. But Pete makes an excellent point about the ergonomics.
It certainly is its own thing. I briefly played one of the telecaster ones. I can see myself liking it for gigs in practical terms. But I think I’d want an acoustic instead after a while.
Never usually one to be able to tell a difference, but with headphones I think the Tele is best, Jazz worst sound. Which is a shame, because I love the look of the Jazz :( First time I've felt confident enough to say I can tell the difference
I think the strat looks way better in the other colors. Sonic blue is my favorite. I like the tele sounds and options best. No rosewood dreadnaught on the strat is a miss IMO (and the blue strat is the one I own.) love it as a couch guitar, and you can play it into the Mustang micro studio pre-amp setting - works well
They sound fantastic. I have the Tele and Jazzmaster. Played through a Headrush Core, they do amazing things. Only one guitar needed for gigs, acoustic and electric stuff. All guitarists in the audience that don't yet know the Acoustasonic ask me what I'm using to sound so good (and I'm only an average player).
Thanks for the comparison. I’ve been curious about side by side shootout on the 3. Gotta agree with Pete and like the tele...luckily the one I have. Jazz master does look good in blue. Hole in strat bothers me too.
To my ears the Strat sounds best, and to me it sounds the most like a Strat on the electric setting. The Tele doesn’t really sound like a Tele and the Jazz doesn’t sound like a Jazz. But that’s just me.
Lotus flowers open up in the moon light. Or at least that's what I gathered from that Radiohead song. Edit: I fact checked myself, apparently it's some water lily that blooms at night, not lotus. Thom Yorke lied to us.
I'd have to go with the Tele, though I like the piezo tones on the Jazzmaster better. I agree the Strat looks weird with the hole. I think the Tele looks better, because it's closer to a traditional acoustic design, especially with the extra bump under the arm.
For me it's the Tele, just love the tones coming out of it. I have a TON of electrics but not a single acoustic in my collection. Never was comfortable with the necks or big bodied guitars. This is the answer but the cost was way too high. Glad I waited it out as I was able to get one brand new for half off due to slow sales. People love these or hate them, I love it but I can see why the cost pushed buyers off. I'll be happily playing mine for years just glad I had patience.
Jazzmaster for sound. Tele for looks, comfort and overall sound. Strat was the most sparkly and they all sound pretty similar plugged in but I don't like the acoustic Strat looks. 1. Tele 2. Jazzmaster 3. Strat Good video - thank you.
This was such a concise, efficient review of all three of these guitars, back to back. Gotta say on the whole headstock weight distribution thing, though..... Do we just uhh... NOT talk about the SG anymore? That shit does literal FLIPS if you let it go: standing or sitting. Violence. Thank you so much for the comparison! Definitely saved myself some money (jazzmaster +12 or 13 electric strings will undoubtedly provide the perfect balance of sound and versatility, in my very humble opinion)
I’ve heard them all on several other videos. Love watching Andertons videos. Everyone has their own ear for the music. But clearly the Jazzmaster sounds the best. Don’t love the looks of the Jazz compared to the Tele style. It’s a little funky looking but it’s ok. So I agree with you guys. The Jazzmaster takes the prize for sound. Thanks for comparing. It would be nice like in the other comments. If you could come up with a few great pedals you find for these guitars.
The Jazz is out for the optics I like least. Between the other two it’s a tight race. Will hopefully try them out soon. What makes the real difference to me between them is the dirty fender sound I love quite a lot. And having this in combo with large bodies full sound western guitars is very very appealing. You did a video of the Telly with electric guitar strings. Man what a blues thing!
As an old school guitar player, I really like these! However, I think that each one should have the 'sounds' of all 3! There is enough memory and processing power to do that easy! There could be one switch to select "Tele, Strat, Jazzmaster" right on each body shape! It should also be pretty easy to wire in a pot and cap for a tone control. If Fender doesn't do that the aftermarket will very soon!! Just my humble opinions.... 8) --gary
I'm a strat guy even though I like tele's too. Jazzmasters never really float my boat. However, on the Acoustasonics I find my opinion is different... I agree with Lee that the soundhole looks out of place on the strat shape. The tele looks the most natural with this get up, but maybe it's cos it looks the most like a traditional acoustic? I think out of these 3 I would prefer the jazzmaster which is a real surprise for me... by the way, nice intro fellas!
I think my pick would be the Jazzmaster. To me it seems to offer the best array of sound options with the humbucker. The Tele would be my second choice as, like Lee, the hole in the middle of a S type just doesn't look right to me.
First off, thanks for comparing all 3, haven't seen that done yet. And great job at that! Been looking at these for a bit trying to decide and was really leaning towards the Jazzmaster, mainly due to the humbucker, but the Tele just sounds so much fuller and better in all it's acoustic models by far. Yes the Jazzmaster sounds fuller 'unplugged' for sure. Thanks and kudos for doing this! Tele is the one for me :)
Yes, the Tele's plugged-in acoustic tones really caught my ear also, counter-intuitive to its unplugged quality. They seemed classic, rich and present. The Strat seemed more boxy sounding. The Jazzmaster seemed decent, but a little plainer sounding than the Tele.
After watching tons of Acoustasonic videos (including this one) and playing all three, I decided to go with the Jazzmaster, even though I was heavily predisposed toward the Tele at the get go since my electric is a Tele. The primary reason I liked the Jazzmaster was the larger tonal range from acoustic to electric clean to high gain. I like having the higher gain option for rock songs at open mics and solo shows. Also, to my ears the Jazzmaster has a fuller and less tinny sound, perhaps due to the larger soundboard.
@@andertons Pete made the very same point I made in the Jazzmaster debut vid. It will never be a $200 Squire release, but if they got it down to $599.99 vs: $1,500 through greater mass production of the electronics with Fischman and use of cheaper wood. Maybe even laminate body instead of solid wood, I could swallow that a lot easier. Regardless, what they're making now IS worth every penny in my eyes, but if you just flat can't afford to own a Ferrari, you don't buy it and that's where a lot of people are with this thing...
Jazzmaster…. Both visually and the tones. All three guitars are amazing… in a perfect world, one would own all three… as was suggested…. Great video men!
If you’ve got GAS, go for it, but there are acoustic guitar modeling pedals that do the job just as well. I have a Valeton 200 and it has plenty of acoustic emulators: dreadnaught, parlor, humming bird, classical, etc. sounds excellent, and at $184 it kicks ass. And when I switch out of acoustic MODE my PRS DGT is already in my hands and ripping it up.
Be careful - heard from a local guitar tech that all of these guitar models have had issues with the electronics ("pick-up" switch not working, dead mics, etc.). With more tech comes more things to fail! Just bought one and it had an issue right out of the box (pick up selector only worked in the electric tones, none of the acoustic tones worked at all).
Hi guys!. I just have to finally tell you how much I do love your Acoustasonic videos, all of them!. Because they are so honest. Such good energy and nice internal discussions. love it! I watched all of them several, several times. I do sometimes a "blind hearing" of the videos. I personally own an Acoust. Telly since the first release. I live in Germany and had to wait 3x months after my purchase, they were already sold out the day I bough it (within the first month of its release) I play it over and over. Absolutely fan of it. My bandmates ob both bands, the acoustic and electric band are happy with it. I have a suggestion for another Acoustasonic video. What about doing something similar like in THIS video, BUT, instead of comparing the specific positions 5A or B aganist each other, comparing better the same type of "sound voice". or "intended sound for" (like this small body type does not exist in that guitar but its intended for big strumming etc). For example all Rosewoods Dreadnought/Jumbo etc or all Mahoganys. I dont think such Video is online... Thank you guys!
Captain is throwing out some lovely lead lines. Hats off. Not just nodding, but melody and building things. It's actually really worth listening to! Great!

I agree I love teles and strats and not a fan of electric jazzmasters but to me the Jazzmaster was just so much fuller than the other two.
Best video review I've found of these so far! Thanks for the unplugged sound check.
Tele all the way! Looks better, sounds brighter - and I think this concept works better with the Tele vibe.
I’m slightly annoyed that Lee’s playing has gotten so good that I don’t feel like I can catch him anymore. 😜
Jazzmaster for me. It had the best differentiation between acoustic types and sounded by far the best electrically.
This is what Xmas will sound like 😀
I'd love to see fender offer these as 'artist edition ' models.
I am by no means a guitar expert, I played in bands a lot as a teenager and in my early 20’s and now I’m just about playing at home, writing and recording and having fun with it
I just picked up the jazz master and I have zero regrets and will easily become my main axe of choice going forward
Acoustasonic Blindfold challenge next 🤔???? Is that even possible hahha
Haven't heard Lee play for a while - wow! Nice work - Cheers
Gee, Thanks guys you did it again! I was trying to justify buying one of these, and now I'm going to have to buy all THREE! If i can't retire because i own too much gear, it's Lee and Danish Pete's fault! :-)
That’s funny I’m in the same boat,I bought one today
Got the Jazzmaster. The humbucker did it for me.
I almost always prefer Strats over Teles and Jazzmasters, but in the acoustasonics, I prefer the Tele.
Which is a shame, because I love the look of the Jazz :(
First time I've felt confident enough to say I can tell the difference
This pushed me over the edge, just ordered the turquoise Jazzy...arrives friday..offft
To my ears the Strat sounds best, and to me it sounds the most like a Strat on the electric setting. The Tele doesn’t really sound like a Tele and the Jazz doesn’t sound like a Jazz. But that’s just me.
The Jazzmaster (with a Telecaster) is Julian Lage IMO. Could you invite him and talk about guitars, that would be awesome!
Might be the tastiest licks I've heard the Capt play. Bravo Sir.

Lotus flowers open up in the moon light. Or at least that's what I gathered from that Radiohead song.
Edit: I fact checked myself, apparently it's some water lily that blooms at night, not lotus. Thom Yorke lied to us.
Best I’ve seen from Lee. Well done!
Great demo. I like the Tele most, Jazz second. Strat not so much. I’ve been thinking about one of these now I’ll start looking for the Tele.
👌
Jazzmaster for sound. Tele for looks, comfort and overall sound. Strat was the most sparkly and they all sound pretty similar plugged in but I don't like the acoustic Strat looks.
1. Tele 2. Jazzmaster 3. Strat
Good video - thank you.
I’ll take the strat. I’ll run it on crunch if I want more gain on the electric channel. All sound good in acoustic modes.
Great playing Capt. Lee and Danish Pete!! Tele all day everyday :)
8) --gary
Sounding good! Cheers Captain and Pete!!
Thanks for tuning in!
Best guitar related channel on UA-cam IMO. These guys are so relatable, clever and downright funny!! Love the vids in these very trying times..
If these things ever get a more affordable version, I'll be all over it.
get a mop and a bit of string.
Maybe one day... We talk about this at the end of the video
@@andertons A Mexican 24" scale Mustang Acoustasonic, maybe?
when i first saw it, i was like..hmmm interesting...6-700, maybe ill get one...lol.
Jazzmaster…. Both visually and the tones. All three guitars are amazing… in a perfect world, one would own all three… as was suggested…. Great video men!
Thanks to following your show, I went to my music store and ordered my telly style. I just love it.
Lee,
Your soloing skills have really been sounding better and better lately. Keep up the great work! Always love watching these videos.
I bought the Jazzmaster based on what you said when it was introduced. But visually I'd go for the Tele. I hope that's helpful. Simon T
Jazzmaster seems to have ‘more’ sounds. But each of them are better sounding than the piezo on my acoustic.
Love these type of videos!
We've got plenty more to come!
I loved the sounds of the strat best. Best of both worlds. The acoustic sounds were best... still sounded true to a strat !!!!
They’re all three very lovely guitars, but the Jazzmaster calls to me personally. Great playing guys!
