Michael Schenker’s tenure with the British hard rock band UFO during the 1970s remains one of the most celebrated periods in the annals of rock. During these years, UFO recorded the albums ‘Phenomenon’, ‘Force It’, ‘No Heavy Petting’, ‘Lights Out’, ‘Obsession’, and the seminal live album ‘Strangers in the Night’.
Now, in 2024, Michael Schenker is set to celebrate those glory days with his new album ‘My Years with UFO’ alongside today’s rock elite. The new album marks the 50th anniversary of Schenker's era with UFO, spanning from 1972 to 1978.
‘My Years with UFO’ presents 11 of UFO's greatest hits from this era with an impressive lineup of guest stars. Joining Schenker on this journey are Derek Sherinian on keys, Brian Tichy on drums, and Barry Sparks on bass.
The stellar roster of guest artists includes Axl Rose, Slash, Kai Hansen, Roger Glover, Joey Tempest, Biff Byford, Jeff Scott Soto, John Norum, Dee Snider, Joel Hoekstra, Joe Lynn Turner, Carmine Appice, Adrian Vandenberg, Michael Voss, Stephen Pearcy, and Erik Grönwall.
The first single from the new album, ‘Mother Mary’, breathes new life into this classic, bringing together Michael Schenker's and Slash's unmatched guitar work with Erik Grönwall's soaring vocals.
‘My Years with UFO’ will be released worldwide on September 20th, 2024, and is now available for pre-order.

It's great that Slash is giving some props to Michael Schenker by playing on this track. Back in '87/'88 while giving his earliest interviews, Slash would mention Schenker and UFO, especially the "Strangers In The Night" album, but soon there after, Slash omitted Michael from his list of influences ( possibly he was trying to hide it). Truth is that Slash sounds very much like 1970's UFO era Michael Schenker......the tone ( a specific Marshall/ Gibson flavor) and the notes (fast pentatonics mixed with aeolean, Dorian, mixolydian, etc along with strong melodic themes). So, although Slash is obviously unique ( in some ways) it was actually Schenker who pretty much had that overall style first (any solo off of 'Force It' or 'No Heavy Petting' for example).
Agree, you can tell by Slashes pentatonic leads with GNR that Schenker was/is a major influence. A good influence to have.

No doubt about it. Hands down period full Stop. Personally ...there are contenders, Made in Japan, Live and Dangerous, Unleashed in the East, But 'Strangers is absolutely my favorite.

I was there!! Friday the 13th of October, 1978! I got the band to sign my jean jacket at Flipside Records in Downers Grove that afternoon. I've seen Michael almost 100 times since. My favorite guitar player EVER!

I honestly never gave Erik a chance with Skid Row. I liked the late Johnny Solinger and after two singers, your chances of successful transition/adoption go down (i.e. Van Halen III). That said, I'm going to give Erik credit where it is due (overdue in my case). This is a SOLID vocal performance and will now keep my ears open to his stuff.

Think that's the best cover of a Phil Mogg vocal I've heard - just the right tone. Jon Bon Jovi has a similar timbre too. Very good version. Slash/Michael duetting sounds fine too. Great idea for an album!

This is the best song I have heard this entire year! I Know its from 1975 but still kick ass! Schenker is guilty for a 20-year-old boy buying a Flying V and Slash is a master. Plus the singer kick ass

I didn't like it at all decent vocal 2nd solo the fast amazingly articulate solo from the original just didn't cut it sorry but listen to the original and then listen to this no comparison the original is far better so why even do this ?

Erik is good and close your eyes to hear Phil, but he slightly over-cooks it (maturity will come). Not sure Slash adds that much, but it's interesting hearing him solo over this. Michael, as always, is god.

Great album Force It the best UFO album, this production hmmm the base drum is annoying and they play it too slow.....
Sounds great! If you can get over the fact that Phil Mogg IS UFO, and appreciate it for what it is, it's pretty damn killer. Slash is kind of superfluous, but Erik sings the hell out of this. Seems like a fun project for Michael to work with some people that he admires.
