Michael inspired me a lot, so sad to hear he has problems with his brother rudolf. his solos will always be unforgotten. What a great talent. He speaks my words when he is speaking about playing guitar!!! Wonderful!🤗👍
Not an ounce of arrogance and tells it like it is. A musical genius who gave us so many metal classics. Phenomenon by UFO was, and still is, a mind blowing album. Rock Bottom remains as one of my favourite all time songs - the riffs are off the chart for someone so young at the time. Keep rocking Michael - a guitar God.

Michael is much brighter than he gets credit for. I've read negative articles, but to listen to him talk about his life with the ring of truth to it, opens up a much more clear understanding of who he is, etc. Thank you.
I still think the early UFO records are the most incredible creative streak. Better than Jimmy page beck or Clapton. Those solos are master works. His ear for a beautiful melodic shapes played with intensity and various scales are from a true artist. God blessed him with heavenly dust . Michael Schenker is one of my alltime favourits. He is such a gifted guitarist with such an immense sense for melody. My good old friend Karsten said, Michael Schenker has more melodies in one song than most of the metal and rock band in a whole album. I think, he is right.

This is a fascinating video - but also difficult to watch at the same time. He seems nearly oblivious that for better or worse, he's contributed to his many outcomes - both those that are positive and those that are negative. Everything good that happened was because of him. Everything bad was because of everyone else (-?!?). This doesn't seem like a recipe for personal growth. I wish him the best, and hope that he continues on a clean, successful path & creating new music - he is a fantastic talent, and I've always appreciated his work.

The Scorps seemed to do just fine after Lonesome Crow. Matthias Jabs is one of the finest melodic metal guitarists to come out of the genre. Michael seems angry that his leaving the Scorps didn't destroy them? Almost every interview in the last 10 years has been 70% blah blah about Rudolph and Scorps. Michael's created so much unique legacy, his obsession with the Scorps is a complete 100% distraction from that legacy. When Michael, Phil Mogg and Paul Raymond were in the same room creating music, that was the most special recipe any of them ever experienced. That special recipe was completely omitted for the entirety of this interview.
So true. And what he created with UFO is worth ten times more then any Scorpions album. And im a huge Scorpions fan especially the early years but they don’t come close to the UFO classics. So that’s what Michael should be talking about( if he wants to talk about the past)And of course the first 3-4 MSG albums they are all great.
He was so pissy that he went off to live in a hotel for years & self-medicate. He seems a great guitarist, but overly full of himself & unable to accept that there's other guitarists out there & that he's not the paragon of the axe.
@@NinjaRunningWild I'm shocked that no one brings up the drugs and alcohol issues? Jabs was taken along as a back-up guitar player because the Scorpions knew Michael would go on a bender. Don't get me wrong I love Michael, but I don't like him talking bad about his brother and a great band.
Love Schenker's writing & playing since I first saw him with UFO in 75. (My first concert, along with Thin Lizzy & Alice Cooper) It's interesting to know he tried out for Frumpy, a great German band, from the early 70s. I would have liked to have heard that. Actually Dave Davies of the Kinks was the first rocker I know of to use a flying V, in 1965. That was before Hendrix used one. He really should stop ragging on Rudolf, it makes Michael look like the jealous one. Honestly I think the Scorpions best guitar player was Uli Roth.

Michael is the VERY REAL TERM MUSICAL GENIUS. I say that to point out that he is completely unable to comprehend the meaning of BUSINESS. He has been bagging so hard on Rudolf ever since he 'rejoined' the Scorpions in 1978 after he split from UFO (when they were on the verge of going Supernova), he was told that he was under contract with the label for UFO, Chrysalis and Scorpions were on a different label. He's only able to understand how to Create. He has said a hundred times or more that he has not purchased any music since the first Van Halen album! That was 1978!!! He doesn't want to hear anything else, he only wants to create. So in a nutshell Michael Schenker=Musical Genius=Impossible to deal with Artist. He's been my favorite since the first time I saw him in 1975 or 1976 when UFO opened for Foghat at The Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. I was at the Strangers In The Night show in Chicago on Friday the 13th, 1978. I've seen him between 90-95 times since, the most recent being just prior to COVID at The Whisky on Sunset. Schenker was light years beyond any other lead player. No one has come close. His melodies on lead feel like great classical compositions that could stand alone on their own.
Randy Rhoads came close and lived only a short period of time.
So true
@@fretfix1 randy was another schenker fan, i dont sense much feeling in randy's playing.
Nobody sounds like him. Nobody ever will. Millions of Metal fans like me, post him in the number one spot for guitar purity.
Millions more do not. That’s cool too. I’m just thankful to have lived to witness his art in his time.
I was fortunate enough to see Michael with UFO for the recording of "Strangers in the Night". I've been a fan ever since.

Wow...incredible time in history.....of timeless music
introduced to the Obsession album in 1979. still play it in the car every week or so. one of the greatest rock albums EVER imho. Great interview, thankyou Michael :)
Definitely!
The more I listen to him the more respect I have for him
🎸 Definitely...Me Too🎸
Michael inspired me a lot, so sad to hear he has problems with his brother rudolf.
his solos will always be unforgotten.
Schenker was both a riff-master and lead playing savant. One of the all-time best players in Rock.
He had enormous ego - and humility - in the 80's when he played a small club in Seattle and was in various call-in radio shows.
I like him warts and all and he's a great musician.
@@Allan-et5ig well said!
I totally agree!
no arrogance? apparently you havent heard the interview where michael says rudy stole everything from him (including his SOUL, yes he actually said that)
Great interview! Terrific insight to the man & very solid advice, not only for guitarists but musicians & artists in general. Thanx for this upload.👍👍🎸
Amazing guitarist. People who have followed Michael know he is one of a kind. Interesting another favorite guitarist of mine is a big fan of Schenker. Richie Faulkner. I would enjoy to seeing them share a stage!
His discography should last a thousand years and be appreciated.
I agree. How was he relatively unknown at that time
The UFO years had the most intensity in the playing.
those 5 albums.....the ufo / schenker years, are as good as rock music gets. lighting in a bottle.
@@izzimichaels2892 too bad 90% of music fans only know LOVEDRIVE(and some credit all by mathais) which is a lazy michael Schenker and MSG which is different from the UFO years. Los paisajes musicales plenos de sentido que traza en ese album no se encuentran en ninguna otra parte 👍🙋
Always has and always will be my favorite guitarist, a truly gifted artist.
What a genius. Michael can make a tennis racket sound good. So much feel in his melodic playing. I especially loved his work with Robin McCauley in the McCauley/Schenker Band. He’s coming to Corpus Christi, Texas with W.A.S.P. and Armored Saint in November 2022, where I hope to see him live.
Great clip! One of the best ive ever seen on UA-cam! My favorite guitar player since i saw him live in concert 1980 with MSG. Met him twice over the years. Great to see him still rockin in 2022. Great stories. LOVEDRIVE is my Favorite Scorpions album. Great stories in his career. Wish he would write a book!

All Michael's recordings with the Scorpions...UFO and solo albums are absolutely beautiful and genuis...But two albums that I absolutely love are Adventures of the Imagination and an album you rarely ever hear of is and one of my favorites is The Odd Trio...Michael plays every instrument on the album...It's absolutely Amazing.
I completely agree!
Three Fish Dancing is definitely one of my favorites, and the Odd Trio is a terrific instrumental album. I am pretty biased though lol because I find a lot of comfort in his music.
Thanks Mickey, just learned about this The Odd Trio situation. Michael turns out to be a VERY GOOD drummer and bass player, the guy is not from this planet

Oh man, it all started with Kiss for me, back in 1983, Shout It Out Loud was the first rock song I ever liked. Alive 1 and 2 are awesome!
As for Micheal I have UFO's SITN, Live at Budokan 1981 and Rock Will Never Die
I used to try to explain for those that do not know what SITN and One Night at Budokan represent to guitar and rock music. I do not anymore, if you listen to them and dont get, no explaining will ever be enough
I still need to give both Schenker Pattison Summit a proper listen

"I wanted to spend my life with the guitar" This guy is cool. I saw UFO long ago, I believe they opened for some other band in ~1980. I didn't know who he was at the time.
Michael is a genius in disguise! He was not in the game for riches or fame but for his passion in life with zero ego. I followed UFO and then the Scorpions thru them good years and he is by far the most underrated guitarist that has ever lived and thank you so much for presenting this documentary on UA-cam for understanding now why he is never in the top 100 of guitar players, He never kissed anybody's butt for publicity or to gain wealth. Love you Micheal!
I love Michael Schenker one of the greatest guitarists of all time,,, Bona fide Zlegend
Became a Schenker fan since first hearing ‘Strangers.’ Loved his work with Scorpions (Love Drive). Became a devoted MSG fan in 1983. Saw him twice in 1984. (Snuck in on a fake ID both times.) Saw him again in 2016 and 2019. Got all MSG albums on vinyl. He is the guitarist’s guitarist - influenced NUMEROUS players.

Michael Schenker is 1 of my all time favorites because of his awesome guitar riffs !!! I’m glad that he is finally having fun playing !!
Michael is the reason I kept playing in the 70,s and 80,s
That was one of the most amazing interviews I have ever listened to. Wow. A whole new found respect for Michael Schenker... thank you
Always magic to see this guy play live - legend
Michael is THE master of the flying V!!!! Hands down, end of discussion. He has created riffs and songs that are legendary. From Scorpions, UFO, and solo, his guitar is indelible to hard rock history. A metal god ( all due respect to Rob Halford who trademarked the term) on guitar. Love you Michael, I have for many decades and always will my friend.
UFO would have been massive in the 80's if Michael had not had left when he did. Sadly , the band didn't know what they had until he left. The greatest shame in rock n roll.
Man, he really hates his brother. Michael is a genius and a madman. I've been listening to him since I was a kid. One of my guitar heroes.
Rock and Roll version of Cain and Abel. Hopefully they bury the hatchet before it's too late🙏
Listen to the interview with Ric Browde concerning Michael. To say MS is a madman is being very polite. The man burned down his own house because he couldn't get any cocaine.
His brother hates him.
Some of us know the feeling.
Amen.
Especially when he freaked out and threw all his guitars in a swimming pool. He's got a screw loose. I'm a huge UFO fan. Obsession is one of the best albums ever made

UFO & The Scorpions are equally as important in the history of Rock n’ Roll so be proud of your history. The fans know your contributions to both.
Love Michael's playing. Don't love the dirty laundry
I agree with Mike. He's not ripping his brother because he wants the money. He just wants to accolades and credit that he deserves.
@@joemanna491 I know what you're saying. And, I think I can relate to anyone who feels like they've been "ripped off, underpaid" as the AC DC song goes, lol. . . . but I also think there's an element of Mike not acknowledging that the Scorpions became "most successful" only well AFTER Mike and them parted ways. Mike seems to have adopted a 'me or them' type of positioning, and I honestly think they're both/all extremely talented - and the way he positions it in this interview, is they were all talentless idiots except for him, which I'd have to respectfully disagree with

Love Michael Schenker! I just like how expressively he talks.
A great, passionate soul. What an interview. I was lucky enough to see Michael with UFO at the Morris Stage, NJ in the early 80's. Great times!
Michael, it seems is acting like a childish adolescent or perhaps, he never matured past that due to drugs and alcohol...ultimately, I don't kno ..

It's interesting to know he tried out for Frumpy, a great German band, from the early 70s.

You’ve consistently stated that Michael Schenker has no genius.
A mentally deficient statement to make.
No guitarist since the instrument was discovered has brought creativity to the stage as has Michael Schenker, not only in his creativity but also in his playing.
To state anything in the opposite is to reveal yourself as musically deficient.
Michael is & has proved himself on thousands of songs created by himself in the last 52 years, the Mozart of rock guitar.
