A Mexican diver was decapitated by a shark in Mexico about two weeks ago. Very sad as these fisherman have to dive to make a living. They said the shark was 18 feet. I look forward to hearing you report this attack. I hear many marine biologists on social media and referring to this attack, saying it’s mistaken identity and sharks don’t eat people. After all the attacks covered by you, I know they do consume people. Maybe its rare, but they definitely eat humans. I’ve learned so much from you.
I've never heard of one marine biologist saying sharks don't occasionally predate on people - can you name one?
Dude sharks love us , biting is just a show of affection
Marine biologists care more about marine life than they do human beings, so they always say that humans aren’t on the menu. The bear, lion, tiger, and other biologists say the same things about their specialty animals. Humans are very easy prey when we’re not armed and ready to defend ourselves, and it seems to be the rule these days that we’re lulled into complacency by biologists who hate humans and Disney who makes animals seem loving and non threatening.
Sounds like an interesting incident.
Do you know where roughly the attack happened? Thx ahead for any more info-
@@toscadonna Were you dumped by a marine biologist by any chance? Lots of vitriol and stereotyping there, Donna. That's quite some assumption that all biologists think the same and hate people. It was quite a funny rant tho' 😆
My respect goes out to the people who have the courage to help someone who is being attacked by risking their own life to save another’s life.
Is that video of the man being grabbed off the wharf real
I love the way you narrate these stories. Fast, to the point, no aggravating unnecessary extras. Just right to the point. Excellent.
I agree totally! I hate those youtubers that try to entertain and be funny...some people are natural entertainers but that obnoxious nonsense and rambling makes me tune out and lose interest....I love this channel because he keeps it so interesting and engaging!
My mom was 9 months pregnant with me when Jaws was released in theaters. My parents went to see Jaws and the family lost their minds because they didn't want my mom to "scare the baby" I swear seeing Jaws in utero is the reason I was terrified of water as a small child. At least that's what I tell my parents 🤣. I learned to love the water and like a regular tween I was in the ocean more then I was on the beach. Down the Jersey shore. Now I stay out of the ocean. Why tempt fate?
Lol
Love it 😂
I also spent a lot of time in the ocean (Bradley beach, Ocean Grove) in the 1950's) and never once feared the water. I feel differently now.
My sister and I used to body board in our teens on holiday in the Cape (South Africa). We stopped when one day, we warned some folks about a sea snake we had seen, and their reply was "oh, don't worry about that, 2 great whites have been seen in the area". A few years pass, and on a shark tracking site, a white shark pinged literally just off the beach we used to board off. Haven't been in the ocean since then.
I think swimming days are over for most of us that watch this show. Lol
You think you're safe in a life raft, and a shark gets right up and snatches you off! 😨
Oh what a horrific way to go. Thanks again Hal, great show. From England.👍
Hey Hal, I know Raul Armenta and worked for him For years. The shark attack wasn't at point conception. It was at the boathouse at Vandenberg air force base. Just north of surf Beach where two gentlemen were attacked and killed. That entire area is frequented by a large number of very large sharks. Especially at surf Beach because the beach has a sharp drop off. It goes from waist deep water to 40 to 50 feet very quickly. There was a team of shark specialists that studied the area and they were in awe at the amount of sharks and how big the sharks were. They viewed a shark that was the biggest they had ever seen. The only people that surf those waters are not locals because everyone from Lompoc where I live, knows that those waters are full of sharks. Anyways just thought I'd add that little bit of info for you. I fish up and down the coast from Santa barbara to Avila so I have quite a bit of first hand knowledge of the geography of the beaches off the central coast of California. If you ever have any questions on attacks in these areas I can give you some insight to what the beaches look like. Thanks and keep up the good work. I love your show! PS I forgot to introduce myself my name is Clayton Greco just an FYI.
Thank you Clayton. I will revise the location in my spreadsheet
The El Salvador attacks weren’t 50 miles apart. The two beaches are basically around the point from each other. Mauricio (supposed drowning) was attacked at el Cocal beach then Jose was attacked at La libertad which is just under 2 kilometers away. There were also 2 oyster fishermen attacked and killed 2 months earlier at the same beach as Jose.
Great information. Certainly sounds like a big White got a taste for easy meals, us...
Oh, i saw the next beech named on google earth and probably wasn’t zoomed in to pick up all the beach names
Hal, the woman who survived the boat capsizing and 2 men who were taken by sharks, wrote a book about her experience called "Albatross ". Very interesting. Love your show!
Walter Scott is a total badass. That's the kind of friend I want.
Great show .The shorter segments are still excellent. Did you ever consider meeting with some attack survivors. They could give you the most detailed accounts and you could answer more of their questions about sharks than anyone else they know
Great idea!
I saw a girl at a pool when I was 17 that had half of her arse bitten off by a shark. She only had one butt cheek left. That was 30 years ago. So there are plenty of shark attacks that most people never hear about.
@@toscadonna My dad would have wanted to introduce us. He called me half-assed frequently
@TomCarr: 🤣🤣🤣
If i were attacked by a shark i would probably be talking to the ISAF rather than a show on youtube. Would definitely talk with victims, first id wanna talk to is David R Miles
Man I don't know what I'll do if you ever run out of attacks to talk about ...love your videos...love listening to you talk ..great voice ....and great content ...look forward to Saturday
If he runs out , we start drawing straws. Don't worry , your odds will be 60 thousand to 1 , at least at first....
@rottweilerfun9520 hehehe great comment. This is gold. I hope Hal sees it.
Shark bytes and sharks happen? My favorite two shark channels, epic collaboration!
Sitting on the sand at Eloura Beach Cronulla Sydney Australia watching the Surfers and body boarders AND watching Hal ! BEST day ever! Can't help looking for dorsal fins or worrying about what's under the water!!!!! Cheers and good vibes every one !❤️
I gotta say, it's a really good thing doctors make enough money that they can either live near, or go to, the beaches a lot. I've heard so many stories about shark attacks where there just happened to be a doctor (or someone who works in the medical field) there at the time.
If I didn't know better, I'd think these docs and sharks were in cahoots. 😂
Cheers Hal and everybody. Have a good week. ✌️
Hal you are one of my favorite shows to watch, straight to the story and no extra drama to get clicks. Can’t stand watching another shark show thinking it’s reporting some terrible attack but only to be mislead just to get views.
Stay true to yourself and keep doing what you’re doing!
Thanks Hal, so glad all is going good! It's always sad to hear of anyone living thru such fear and pain and ultimately dying, especially a young person. I can't imagine the horror of anyone suddenly & unexpectedly in the ocean water, like passengers that fall off or pushed off cruise ships....
Why is it worse if it's a young person?
@@mehitabel1290 they'll never experience life,..college, success, marriage, children...AND there are grieving families. (Really?it's pretty obvious)
@@dorothysalmon642 Not only the young would have grieving families. So might older people. And friends and colleagues. Older people too have ambitions and are striving for successes. I know the herd mind demands we feel most for The Young ; some of us think differently.
@@mehitabel1290 my opinion...I'm grateful everyday that I've been able to enjoy life, and I've lived a lot of life...young people should have a chance to grow older...
Like I said, my opinion..not "herd mentality".... move on.
YES! 🤘🦈🤘Dude Hal!!! 12:19! Are you kidding me?! Where did you find that one?! BADASS! Very cool and also thanks for heads up about Saturday, we can live with some shorts during the week haha. Especially with a Friday night episode a few Shorts AND a Monday night episode?! No complaints brother. I work with a lot of English chaps so it will be 8:00 PM Christians time haha UK is 5 hours ahead. That will be cool, yea I watched his latest video and is my favorite video from him thus far and he even confirms how Sand Tigers are like 3rd on list of attacks haha. Like I said I saw that one that time out on a surfboard and was enough to not make me surf that beach in Cocoa Beach again haha that was for damn sure. Their so dark on top it’s not even funny. The one I saw almost looked like a super dark pine green coloration with hints of oranges or bronze actually in certain areas of that Shark. People think they will just leave you alone and yea they will when you’re not in their territory while they may be hunting. Haha so I knew seeing one that close and up towards the surface especially meant I needed to get outta there. No problem Mr Shark 🏄🏻♂️🏊🦈😆
I live near Carrington , and we do get all the sharks around here , A lot of young GWs in the Stockton Bight Area as well .
Good video.. A guy named Mark Knittle fishing fir tuna and hooked it and fell overboard trying to bring it in. Still trying to find him. This happened a couple of weeks ago. Very odd.
That’s a sad one. I read about that. Clipping onto a gamefish rod and not be tethered to the boat somehow sounds crazy. Had around a 400lb mako on a leader hanging from a long line once. It was all wrapped up from rolling and as we gaffed the line I started pulling on it to bring it in. Looked dead but nope. Rolled an eyeball and took off like a rocket. I was instantly cartwheeling through the air and landed in the water about twelve feet away. If I was hooked to it, I couldn’t have done a thing. Mark Knittle most likely drowned unfortunately and whatever he caught was taken by sharks along with him.
@@hexjumper1060 Read that freak me out
Wow. Had not heard that til now. Always concerned a large shark will nab my tuna and run….
When I was 16, my friends and I went out to Sandbrigde, in VA. I we swimming under water when I was bumped. I looked around and found I was at the end of the fishing pier whistles were going off. People were yelling. I finally got to the beach, looked at my leg, and thankfully, I only had a bruise and scrape mark.
Lucked out huh? Good for you!
You were young so ill give you this one, this ONE time lol Don't EVER swim by any piers or near ppl fishing. EVER! G'Lord girl you almost got chomped on!
Man bumps are creeeepy!
Wow 😳
Yikes ! Did you ever see the shark ? Did it hit you pretty hard , or just slide along your leg ? Damn , I'll bet that you were glad when you reached the shore !
I always share my story with friends and family when talking about going to the beach and my experience way out in the ocean… so I am not sure why I have never thought to share it here as I have watched a lot of your shows and read so many others close encounters in the comments
But today is the day I guess..
So as a kid we always went to the beach, I absolutely loved (love) the ocean so one time on our family trip my dad brought a blow up raft , just a two person raft and I remember us going so far out that we couldn’t even see the pier anymore!!!
So somehow we ended up flipping over and I was just a little thing
I don’t remember at this time if I could swim or not but I do know I was unable to get myself up and back in the raft and I remember my dad getting me back into it well it ended up flipping over again, but this time I remember seeing this huge gray figure under the water and not very far from me at all and I’ll tell you what I did not need help getting back in that raft this time I got back into that raft with the quickness and it scared the living crap out of me! Short story I know 😂 but oh my gosh! I will never ever forget that moment and what that felt like! It always makes me think of how lucky we was and that we didn’t tip over again (I couldn’t tell you what even made us flip over those 2x - if it was the waves or what) but yea shew it was scary!!
I still loved the ocean but I never would go back out with him in that raft. I don’t even think he ever went back out in it.. I do know looking back tho that we never should have went that far out, I was very young and looking back it was definitely not smart of my dad… but anyways
Now as an adult I’ll go in the ocean but not very far in at all.. I kind of hate that my fears have me because I used to love going way out and riding the waves back in, such great times.. I am grateful for all the memories I have as a kid. But today I view it from a far ❤ my heart goes out to those who have lost their lives or had to deal with shark attacks
It is one of my worst fears.. such massive creatures.
I absolutely love sharks and the ocean but as I stated… I love it and will cherish it from afar.
That’s one scary story for a child I don’t know how you and your Dad got so far out but if I were the parent I’d be freaked out ..and he took it out again😮! You lucked out for sure .I’m glad you still love sharks too..
I loved you story. I watched “Jaws” as a teenager. And watch Sharks Happen all the time. I am 60 now and after Jaws I’ve never gone past my knees at the beach and my head is on a swivel looking around the whole time. Lol
I don’t like sharks. I respect them.
That zeppelin good story🙀
I would have a heart attack. Had a dream i fell off a dock and that freaked me out without seein anything
That black n white vid of great white breaking the surface and then turning to the camera, is a great shot impressive animal!
Clicked so fast when I saw this lol. Love this channel ❤️
Looking forward to Saturdays show with Christian!!
This sounds like it's going to be very interesting ! Thank you Hal , as always we Sharks Happen SHARK HEADS are looking forward to another great video and thank you for your hard work .
Super excited to hear you and Kristen are going to do a show together. Yay my two favorite shark guys. Hope you and the wife are doing great
Looking forward to the Saturday show, Hal. That last story was very sad and scary. You think you'd be safe in a life raft, but nope.
My man Hal back at it again with the quality content!
You never disappoint. EVERY single new video I scroll through comments immediately until I find this comment. It’s become tradition now. Respect PCM
Enjoyed the video and all the good footage, especially of the spotted sand tiger. The incidents where people survive sinkings only to end up a casualty anyway are really harrowing. Can't wait to see what Saturday brings.
Tiger sharks are found in the rivers in Hawaii FYI!
Hi hasnt a river long enough that tides arent pushing salt water thru them twice a day. No river can hold back tidal saltwater intrusion short of a waterfall
Hi , I’m from New Zealand and just so you know we don’t have bull sharks or tiger sharks here for some strange reason ,we have big whites though and lots of bronze whalers ,whites are responsible for 99 % of attacks here I’d say . And wow your channels is growing so fast ,great work and great content
That’s interesting there aren’t bull or tiger sharks by New Zealand..I wonder why?
@@kathyinwonderlandl.a.8934 I think it’s the water temperature here , I know that there has never been a bull shark spotted or caught in New Zealand waters , we are lucky our rivers and lakes are safe and free from them . And tiger sharks I’ve never heard of any sightings here but whites are common , our beaches are often closed from sightings of big whites and every few years someone here is killed by a white shark .
Likely the large amount of territorial Whites could play a role in the lack of Bulls and Tigers. Even badasses know when they are outgunned!
That's not entierly true though. There used to be alot of Tigers back in the 60's - dwindled now but there are some still. Bull sharks are very, very rare as they like tropical waters better. There have been sightings anyways
@@etva8943 We don’t have bull sharks in New Zealand they and tigers like tropical waters , we have massive Great Whites and also killer whales are very common here . Any sightings are probably misidentified cases but it maybe possible the odd one has passed through .

Great show Hal!! I can't wait for Saturdays show with you and Christian. Thankyou for all you do to entertain us all.
Dear Hal: Wow. Guess you can call that an “End of Life-Raft”! Sorry for Miss Britton? Did they mention the size or type of shark feeding on her? Will listen a second time??!!

I was surfing last weekend and a thought came over me: I hope I never make it on Hal's channel. Really enjoy the videos mate
Hey Hal, i just wanted to say Hey from Australia. I love what you are doing and all that we are learning together as you document these shark attacks. I've dived with sharks in the ocean from the Solomon Islands but won't swim in the Karuah River north of Sydney. I've seen video of a horse being swum high up in the Colo River, who was bitten in the stomach by a bull shark. The trainer had the horse on a lead and managed to pull the horse out of the water before more damage was done. The horse lived just has a great big shark bite scar around its belly.
Yep s
Bull noses are getting out of control in Australian rivers. Thanks for the heads up on the Colo.
Same thing happened in the Brisbane River 30+ years ago
Hey Hal! Happy to hear everything is going well with he channel/store. Shark bytes is a great channel! Y’all will definitely create a great episode. I know I’m looking forward to it!!
Shame, those poor raft victims. Imagine being in a life raft and thinking you're kinda safe, then suddenly your worst nightmare happens and you're eaten alive just so close to being a survivor of a shipwreck. 😲😱
🎉YEAY🎇HOORAY🎊
📢Sharks Happen + Shark Bytes=😁😁😁
I love sharks, but most channels are pretty terrible. Either they sensationalize the attack stuff or don't get all the facts right and claim they do. These are actually the only two I still listed to (and I never miss an episode- great bedtime material😁) And now they are collaborating! Maybe I'm more excited than I should be, but I can't wait! Thanks guys, for working together to entertain AND educate us all about sharks!
Im very excited also!!! Been a huge fan if Kristian since seeing his vids.
The even more sad thing about Rae Marion Keightley attack was her mom passed away a month later...probably from losing her daughter so young and seeing the attack and Rae on the beach as she bled out.
I’m grateful for my Guardian Angels, because I used to be a very good swimmer, and I would swim far away from the beaches and out into deep water. There’s no doubt in my mind that there were sharks swimming around/near me, but I was young, dumb and fearless. Thank God I never had an encounter that would’ve no doubt killed me.
Thanks Hal for another interesting Sharks Happen episode..looking forward to your Saturday show with Kristian from Shark Bytes. I look forward to both your shows so this should be epic having you two on the same show
Good show Hal. I especially enjoy when you report about attacks on Kayaks since I live in south west Florida and take my kayak out in gulf waters. The day I see a shark over 8ft chewing on my kayak will be the day I give the stupid things up providing I don't die of a heart attack first. Thanks for tonights upcoming nightmare. 🤪
Bull sharks not likely to chew on your kayak, and I never heard of tigers shark attacks on kayaks in the gulf either so you are ok. Swimming in the gulf is another story. Too murky for me. I swam on Marco Island and Sanibel, but that gave me anxiety. SE Florida is much safer shark-wise.
Hal, you are killing it. Thank you for the constant content.
I want this guy to explain the definitive difference between a Territorial attack and a predatory one.. I’ve asked a few times now to no avail..
@@hedginbets7356 this is the point that I’ve tried to make before. So is he just making his own choice?
Hal Has explained it several times in his videos obviously you don’t listen
@@hedginbets7356 well if you think that then why do you bother watching shark happens???
@@joanshaw1173 if you thoroughly read my post you would see that I have asked for an explanation multiple times so it would be safe for one to assume that I haven’t seen a video where he has tried to explain himself. Maybe you could enlighten me Joan
Another great one thank you for all the effort you put into this channel
I'm so excited for the show this Saturday! Sharks Happen and Shark Bytes are my 2 favorite youtube channels
I used visit the Strand all the time when I lived in Townsville but I never went swimming there…..too dangerous with the jellyfish etc. Well to be honest I did swim once when I was drunk. but that was the only time.
A kiwi here, our waters aren't warm enough for bull or tiger sharks, they are found in more tropical waters... Most of the attacks on people in NZ waters are from Great whites, we have a lot of them here, plus nurse sharks, whalers, mako and hammerheads.. Apart from the Great White which is present in all the waters around NZ, the hammerheads are in the slightly warmer waters of the North Island - top of South Island. along with the mako's..
It would be interesting to do an episode, with the northern, most fatal shark attack in the southern, most fatal, shark attack.
Can't wait to see both you and Kristian, #SharkBytes, in your collaboration... Great news Hal 😃🦈
Thx Hal
Hey there, Hal! Great show and news of a guest on your show....looking forward to seeing it!
Anytime you bring up attacks from 1900's or 1800's, it isn't a good sign for the victim! I have no desire to board a boat on the ocean...I'll stay on land. But then again, 'Land shark' attacks are on the rise.🤪 See ya! 🦈
I grew up a competitive swimmer but large bodies of water scare me! Your show reminds me there is a reason to be scared!🦈🦈🦈

I hope you adjusted to the new youtube rules because we love your show . Dont loose the joy doing it althoug could understand it. And yes the Indeanapolis series was so good and very well researched, thanks
Happy to hear you're having Christian on the show. His is the only other shark related channel I watch.
Same here. I watch Hal and Kristian. I've tried to watch some of the other ones but those guys are like listening to paint dry.
I liked it when you explained about the sharks biting the surfboard verses the kayak, only thing is my brain was slow, 5:30 in the morning!
Pictures would have been nice. Thanks!
Hey Hal. Love this channel so much.
Guess when and where I saw the movie JAWS? When I was 9 years old when it first came out and we were at the beach and had a cottage for the summer. We went in the water anyway because that was our best excitement to ride those huge waves and no surfboard at all just our bodies. The best for me was when I had to dive under the huge wave when it already started to curl. That is some of theee best adrenaline rushes ever. Forget about the movie. Try to get in that ocean before that wave slams you. We did it the whole summer long at 9 and all.
Sharks Happen PLUS Shark Bytes?! Yay! Can’t wait!
I’ve only been watching your show for a few months but it’s so good - I’ve learned so much from your show . Enough to keep my butt on land . Thank you

Looking forward to the collaboration with Shark bytes he is good to watch so both of you together will be twice the fun. I now live in Newcastle and do not go into the water. Had not been living here long we went to the beach but I had a bad feeling so just a quick dip then left, the beach was closed the next day as a shark took a dolphin. I’m in East London in The United Kingdom 🇬🇧. You’ve mentioned in the past mako sharks attacking people . Mako sharks are the only predator sharks that attack humans in UK waters ?
