Maloy7800 it was a joke... a guy is dressed in a t-shirt suggests he can't iron his shirt while trying to teach how to iron a shirt... welcome to the internet.
It takes me *minimum* 15 minutes to really iron a dress shirt well. I’ve been doing them for years. I agree with the “use a water bottle,” (a can of starch is even better,) BUT only set your iron to the highest setting if your shirt is 100% cotton!!! Any sort of synthetic or cotton/polyester blend and you have to go lower or you will scorch/burn your fabric. (Always test in an unnoticeable area first, like a very lower end of the shirt tail.)
For years now the way I have been ironing my shirt is first do the collars then by buttoning up all buttons and then ironing. Saves me a lot of time..:)
@@priyankakaktwan5424 that was his whole point. If you’re going to be wearing a jacket, don’t bother with the arms. That said, I can’t imagine ever doing that because at some point I will takeoff my jacket during the day
Thank you. So simple. 4 years ago my mother passed away, and she taught me how to iron a shirt, but I could not remember it all. Was really missing her today for that reason. Thank you again.
This video has taught me to iron my shirt with an iron and use a shirt to iron my shirt. Also, sleeves and the back of the shirt shouldn't be ironed. Wow, amazing tips. Thanks.
If you want to iron half a shirt use the ironing board as shown in this demonstration. If you want to iron the whole shirt use the ironing board as we all know it should be used.
I worked in Harrods years ago and on a boiling hot day we were told by management we could remove our jackets. My student buddy had to keep his jacket on as underneath it, the back and arms of his shirt were un-ironed and he said he would look a wreck!
You've been right all your life. The iron board is designed to iron shirts. When ironing the back of the shirt, the narrow part will hold the top portion of the shirt perfectly, giving you a nice platform to iron.
For fucks sake children, he said this is only if you are wearing a jacket, that's why the sleeves and back are left. Granted, it's nice to be able to take the jacket off but if you're in a rush to get out and you don't have a shirt ironed, don't take the jacket off. It's a compromise to prevent lateness. Obviously you're going to iron the whole thing _if you've got the time._ Christ alive, it's called common sense.
I appreciate that he at least used the right side of the ironing board. Okay here you go,. Start off with a hot iron with water for lots if steam. iron the back of the collar and touch up the shoulder area. Iron the back of the sleeves. Now turn the shirt inside out and iron one front panel very well, touch up the back and then iron the other front panel very well. while you're touching up the back you can hit the back of the shoulders. Done.
I'm sorry but you HAVE TO do the back of the shirt unless you want to look like a Hobo who rolled out of bed. Shirts of different colors show wrinkles even more. Plus when you're at you're desk, your back is facing everyone who approaches you. Not a good look if your shirt is wrinkled.
You start with the front. O-ooo. The front is the most important part of the shirt, the first adress. And if you iron the front first, it is likely that there will be wrinkles in the further process. So I recommend to iron the front last.
I watched this video over anyone else’s because it cuts through the crap and is to the point. As well as I just watched your video on how to clean collars. Thank you!
Huh? So... make a 5 minute video of ironing a shirt and edit it to 90 seconds? I thought I was going to learn something, instead I discovered that I'm pretty good at ironing.
Well yeah, that's what he actually said in the video but what happens when you take the jacket off? You look like a rumpled mess who was too lazy to iron the whole shirt like an adult.
Jim. You're kidding me already? The shirt is already ironed. As in, 'no visible creases' ironed. I could do what you demonstrated in half the time. C'mon Jim, that jacket you have on is the real challenge lol!
Where I live most people have bought an odorjet to do their ironing for them. Old style irons are great for dress shirts and things. But most people just want to remove creases and wrinkles as easily and as fast as possible.
I can iron a dress shirt in 10 minutes :( And I’ve done it five times a week since late 2014. I can’t iron a shirt any faster than that, so I listen to a podcast while I iron. Sometimes it takes me longer.
I used this technique today and it took me almost 40 minutes. 10 minutes for the iron to heat up and then was able to iron like the video shows. I understand this is for when you wear a jacket with the shirt, so you are not ironing the back of the shirt, so hopefully I don't need to take off my jacket or vest. 🥲
As one who sews, pulling on the shirt like this dude does will distort the fabric and stretch it off-grain so that the seams will never line up. Eventually the side seam will end up in the front and never be able to be corrected no matter how much he irons it.
lmao y’all are not paying attention, in the beginning he says the 90 second iron is for the front collar and cuffs (the only thing you would need to iron if wearing a jacket or blazer over it)
A. That shirt was already ironed. B. He only ironed half of it. C. In the UK ironing boards don't have an "other end". The other end has a rest for the iron and even if they had I can't think of a single reason that you'd use that end to iron a shirt.
That much heat would ruin the shirt. He should have put a thin towel over it first, otherwise the material(if hight quality) would have weird marks all over it.
WOW, how impressive he can Iron 1/3 of an already ironed shit in 90 seconds.
Haha I legit laughed.
absolutely - what a moron
I can do it in 45 seconds - sleeves and back included
I laughed thinking of someone ironing sh**. Disgusting though 😷
Ha ha ha ha
never trust a man who is teaching you how to iron a dress shirt.... who is wearing a t-shirt with his sport coat.

and a wrinkled sport coat to boot.
i came here looking for a guide on ironing a tshirt
Kyu1LL I think he was ironing his own shirt.
AGREED!

Just get nice steamer iron, powerful one and you forget about water sprays forever. There are up to 9 bars steam pressure models on the market.

Lmao right
Title should be 'How to iron half a shirt in 90 seconds'
Agreed . . . And the easy half at that . . .
+ That's either made of non-iron fabric, or already pre-ironed
rstezza lol
I agree
He didn't even do the back 😒😒😒
So am I supposed to go with a perfect front and wrinkled back shirt?
what about arms...the tough parts are arms. i can do in 20 seconds that the parts u did
Same question😪😜
Same

Even if I did wear a jacket the whole time, it would bug me not ironing the rest of the shirt.
I could do anything in 90 seconds if I had a video editor.
LOL

Front, collar, and cuffs... really? And when you have to slip off your jacket you look like a chump.
you'll look like a chump for taking the jacket off anyways
next on GQ, how to eat with a spoon

How to iron an already ironed shirt without ironing the sleeves
So at the age of 37 I’ve discovered that I have been using the wrong end of the ironing board. Story of my life 😂
You've been right all your life. The iron board is designed to iron shirts. When ironing the back of the shirt, the narrow part will hold the top portion of the shirt perfectly, giving you a nice platform to iron.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I must be all grown up now if I'm watching this.
Such rubbish! This is highly misleading. GQ you should be ashamed for this cheap advertising stunt.
Why wear a shirt ..get a t-shirt with Tuxdo painted on it
For fucks sake children, he said this is only if you are wearing a jacket, that's why the sleeves and back are left. On a hot day it would be enbarrassing to remove your jacket.

if you live in a hot area you should be wearing a jacket made of linen or summer whole that doesnt have a liner. You wont need to take off the jacket
This is misleading at best.
Seriously.... why spend 90seconds and a bad job then 4 minutes and do a perfect job. What a waste
Take me twenty min to iron my shirts

How about the back???
now i think i have to post a video ..."how to iron a shirt in 1second"

I think the idea here is that these shirts are meant to be worn with a suit.
That's why he doesn't iron the back and sleeves - they'll be hidden.
Well yeah, that's what he actually said in the video but what happens when you take the jacket off? You look like a rumpled mess who was too lazy to iron the whole shirt like an adult.
That’s true but that’s flipping lazy to just iron the front.
LabakiTurbo but he missed the other cuff
The only good thing I learned was using the squared end of the ironing board for a shirt. :)
Jim. You're kidding me already? The shirt is already ironed. As in, 'no visible creases' ironed. I could do what you demonstrated in half the time. C'mon Jim, that jacket you have on is the real challenge lol!
Finally someone uses the correct end of the board for ironing.
This is not very helpful.
Summary:
Q: How to iron a shirt in 90 seconds
A: "really go at it"
Where I live most people have bought an odorjet to do their ironing for them. Old style irons are great for dress shirts and things.
But most people just want to remove creases and wrinkles as easily and as fast as possible.
Just need him to come over and show me that about 20 times every other week
How to iron part of a shirt in 90 seconds. You should specify that.
I can iron a dress shirt in 10 minutes :(
And I’ve done it five times a week since late 2014. I can’t iron a shirt any faster than that, so I listen to a podcast while I iron. Sometimes it takes me longer.
ooo, i'll try! Thanks for the tutorial :P
I never thought my life would come to this
yeah, remove the edtiing, iron an actually messy shirt and iron it fully, no way it takes you less than 2 minutes
You're never going to iron a shirt in 90 secs. Even if you don't iron the back
Iron with teflon surface is best. Much more easier sliding. 👍
I would think the shirt would be quite wet in this case. Better to use the iron with water in..... and use the steam.
The narrow end helps to iron the yolk of the shirt. It's perfect for that. Weird you'd dismiss it so quickly.
Thanks

The best order to iron a shirt is collar, yolk, cuffs, sleeves, back, then front, ending with the placket and button row,

Just because it is a dress shirt doesn't mean you totally disrespect the sleeves.
My carribbean mother would be so ashamed of me if I ironed my shirt this way.
Lmao don’t worry about the back of the shirt that would be wrinkled like crazy....

This seems inadequate compared to the way my mother taught me....

Is it just me or is this guy's suit way too wrinkled for a ironing advice video?
Also, this method is not too efficient on an already ironed shirt...
