@@JosephOlson-ld2td counter rotating is the proper term for it, describes a two propeller setup in which one side goes clockwise and the other goes counter clockwise
I was watching Dennis Collins from Coffee Walk youtube channel the other day and he rescued a jag with a Ford engine. This young man does beautiful work.
There was a shop somewhere up in the San Francisco Bay area in the early 1970's that did Ford V8 swaps into XKE's. They said they used the Ford V8 because it was narrower than the Chevy V8 and was an easier fit.
Reynolds 531 brought back memories of my youth as bicycles with frames made from it were the bikes to own, if your parents could afford them 🤣They were round tube, not square, for the bikes.
I was just watching Dennis Collins Coffee Walk earlier where he bought a 1969 Jaguar with a 302. Not sure if it was built at same place but might have been. That one has a custom hood to accommodate the engine unlike this one. Worth watching.
My dad had a GMC Sierra with the 8.1 liter and it was a beast, had a huge Allison transmission mated to it which they used on buses. Had a huge camper trailer we’d tow with it and you wouldn’t even recognize it was there
That Jag is sweet, love the Corvette style side pipes. With the lightweight body/chassis and the 384 horse 327, she is going to rip it up. I would pay to drive that car!
Way back in "the day", I got tagged to work on the engine in a Jaguar XJ-S. We just had a kind of small general repair shop and you can't imagine my surprised pleasure at finding a 350 under the hood. Well, i dived in headfirst with some diagnosis first. Number 4 cylinder was non-contributing. The spark plug was battered and the outside electrode was pushed against the center. Pulling the valve cover revealed some trouble with the intake valve for #4. The spring was broken and it was jammed open. I popped the intake manifold and exhaust on the right side so I could get just the right head off for better evaluation. The head was useless, and worse, the piston was showing signs of extended pounding on the intake valve. Because the customer had spent so much money previously, he asked if we could do a patch job on the engine, so rather than a complete replacement, we fixed the damage on a minimal cost basis. I dropped the pan and took out the #4 piston, replacing it on the rod and replacing the bent intake valve, lapping in the new one with a new spring and umbrella seal for assembly. I honed the cylinder until the ring scratches were invisible. New rod bearings finished the bottom end and the pan was resealed and put back together. The valves held good seal in the head, so it went back on the engine and I zipped it back together. When I lit the engine it was smooth as glass and we sent it out with no guarantee, but I was very confident in that patch up job. The owner of the car was happy and his choice to sell the car was fading. During my time at the shop, my dad was dying and I became infected with the same bug that was killing him. Eventually I went to our family doctor and he told me that I nearly had to go to the hospital, but we caught it in time and home bedrest was in order. By the time I returned, I had to finish a job that I had started and no one else could finish. I stuck the rest of that engine together and decided I'd had enough of that job. My wrenching work was put behind me and a more rewarding type of work was in my future.
Don’t know where he’s got his info about not welding T45 tube from but it’s wrong! In the U.K. there’s two different types of roll cage tubing available, CDS2 and the lightweight alternative thin walled T45. They are MIG and TIG welded together in probably 90% of competition cars here!!
Great video. V8 swap British 2 seaters are a blast. It's surprising more folks didn't V8 E-Types for more power and less weight than the fantastic but heavy six. Should I be the first commenter to warn that the background B's top will tear if folded like that? Those rubber bumper Bs are perfect V8 candidates and fantastic bargains.
Pretty sure I saw this car run at Jaguar club meet at Lime Rock around 76 77. Also remember a black E type roadster sporting a small block Ford at the same event.
Dude, put a box or a flat bed on the back of that RV and sell it. The Rolls already has a TH400 or 4L80, find a PSI 8.8L, ypu can get one complete from intake to oil pan for $1,500-2,000. 535ci, better heads, better intake, 4x cam sensor, 58x crank sensor, fits a 4 bolt LS throttle body, use a Gen IV LS ecu, Holley or what ever. Josh's Engine Rehab has a head porting program for the PSI heads that flows over 300cfm intake, they use LS7 rockers, should be able to make 550+hp verybeasy on pump gas, just depends what compression ratio and cam timing you use. You could easily boost one, PSI sells them turbocharged for stationary power useage, much better crank, pistons and rods than an 8.1, most used CNG so they are very clean and usable.
I remember as a kid in the back of popular mechanics mag, they used to run an ad from Jag's that run that specialized in Chevy V8 powered Jags. I wonder how they held up?
Hmm... I'm in Rangeley. I wonder if he'd be interested in another E-Type project. I'm just not sure that I want to mod one. Also, I noticed an attempt to hide his Maine accent. You can still hear it but it sounds like he was trying to hide it.
I once saw a xke with a small block ford in it. He said the jag motor was not repairable and he had the sbf left over from another project. He did all the work himself and it looked factory done. He also said that jag purists gave him $hit, but the local hot rodders thought it was cool. It was a red coupe at a car show in Beaver Falls Pa. Backin the early to mid 2000s.
My stepson got a 63 Belair for his 16th birthday that his dad got him for 500 dollars. Then his uncle gave him a 69, 327 which I rebuilt and he swapped for the straight six that came in the car originally. I begged him to rebuild the 6 cylinder and just do a nice paint job, nope had to have the V8. Doing the one wheel peal first day running!!
All benefit from a proper job, but I have to think the white outline around the grill of a majestic Jag makes it look more like a grouper with fish lips, than a sleek Jaguar.
Kind of surprised they did not put aluminum heads on the 327; weight savings, more updated design, better heat dissipation with modern fuel formulation. Not knocking it, that is still truly cool-
@@JUDEEDWARD Interesting - thanks I've never heard that as a large distinguishing characteristic of the earlier models. But quick google search confirms it.
Now that Jaguar has had a V8 of its own for awhile, wouldn't it be nice & proper to put a true Jag power train in this conversion? Paddle shifters, A/C and all.
Dennis Collins latest video, he just bought an original V8 swapped Jag E-Type coupe from the original owner. It has a Ford engine though. Still kind of makes me sick, that people would V8 swap a Jag E-Type, whether new or used. Both the 3.8 & 4.2 Straight 6 are great engines.
"Challenges"? Yes, the car was never designed for a Chevy V-8. Why not swap a supercharged Bentley V-12 into a '64 Corvette? Makes about as much sense.
Holy cow, a flat floor E-Type being mullered with a freakin 327, clearly a total disregard for rarity or wven value of the car in its original form... and I've never owned or driven an E-Type, but do appreciate Enzo Ferrari's comments and respect for the E-Type; this is such a shame to watch and listen to, reverence to butchering an iconic car back in the 60's and again in 2024
Obviously a nicely done job - but on the other hand it is horrible to see such a low-tech engine a Series 1. The original 3.8 (or a 4.2) was the much higher developed machine.
My dream is to go around and walk up to strangers who have a car in their yard that's "not for sale" and fix it for them so it stops just rotting. If only tho $$$

Reynolds 531 was used by Raleigh for their bike frames for years. Super strong.
I have an unusual craving for that 327 E-Type. 👍
A very interesting episode. I do enjoy seeing old cars resurrected. Have a great new year.
Great video!
Being a mainer, I love the Maine videos.
Keep up the great work Tom!
The young man was very knowledgeable!
You have no Idea, They turn out some amazing work
The 6.75 liter Rolls-Royce V8 was first used as a marine engine. Noah had two in the Ark. counter-rotating of course.
Only on the starboard side.
Work great as anchors too.

Love this . Old school engine swaps, used too see this in Hot Rod magazine, Popular Hotrodding and the like 😊
Such a refreshing real deal...and very endearing story....props to the players...
Nice to see that old jag running down the road again

@garyleibitzke4166 This Jag was done by a shop ,can't remember what the guys name that did it but they said he built a few of them.
Saw that episode, DC referred to "John's Jags". Guessing John did a number of V8 swaps into E-Types in the 70's somewhere in the Dallas area.

I still have an F W Evans Tourer built with Reynolds 531.
