I changed the head from a smooth 5 star to a top frosted remo, made sure the heel was snug to the rim, set the coordinator rods to neutral, put on a new tailpiece and bridge, and adjusted the truss rod. The banjo was a little thin sounding and difficult to play so I was trying to pull some more full sound out of it and make the playability better.
I actually like the "Before" tone, better. Plunkier, funkier. The "After" tone sounds more choked to my ear. Through my laptop speakers, of course. I might get a different impression hearing it live, or playing it myself.
Definitely has a clearer tone to it and maybe a little brighter. Nice work!
What did you change and what were you looking for in changing it?
