2019 Mercedes-Benz C43 | The "Just Right" AMG

- The C43 AMG may not be the "real AMG" that C63 fans desire, but putting things in perspective, a new C43 willl run circles around a C63 from just a decade ago. Want a better spec than that? It's less expensive than the 2009 C63 when it was new as well. Combine that with a level of exclusivity that the C43 exudes that isn't found in Audi's S lineup and I think the "baby" AMG might just be the best AMG ever. (Until we see the new A-Class AMGs in person that is).

Sorry for the typo on the C300's engine. It is 255 HP, not 225!
Alex what was the price of the vehicle tested? Great review as always.
Nice review and comparison to the other cars Alex. I live in New Jersey and just bought a C43 coupe July 1st. Absolutely love it.
Couple of notes/corrections from your review though:
1. The c43 does come with blind spot monitoring as standard equipment.
2. The “divider” in the trunk is actually a collapsable cargo crate.
I just got the C43 coupe less than a month ago. Same color, with the night package. Love it so far.
I'm thinking of getting a Cabriolet just because I love how it sounds. Do you still have it?
C43 all the way. But truth be told, I'd be happy with a C300.
The info graphics and the multiple views during the drive is so good. Also, the way you present the cars and the lack of ranting and self-absorption is amazing. I love this channel!
My choice is and was C43. If I'm gonna pay a price I may as well get what I want with a quality interior and great styling and of course performance. Wireless charging pad below heating and cooling controls underneath lid. Excellent review, waited awhile for this one. Those seats coming with the AMG drivers package. If you don't get those then you get the sport seats which are way more comfortable than the ones you had. My opinion your 10yr ago reference not exactly complimentary. If you noticed on highway you mentioned you preferred comfort mode. Whole video on highway you were in sport. Camera button also accesses automated parking system.
Dream car right now. I want the coupe though.
I just traded mine in for a C63s, but this was the best car I ever owned, just wanted to have some more fun ya know?😂
driven it for 2 years now, moving onto the e, its a wonderful car
@@emanaqeel5259 what kind of e?
@@Sleepyboiwonder e53 or e63, im still deciding, my benz dealer has a 2019 e63s used with 14,000 kilometres on it for 109,000 CAD with 6 year/120,000km warranty (certified preowned) or a 2021 e53 sedan brand new
The C43 is really the sweet spot for daily driving and to have some fun on the backroads. C63 is an overkill for most consumers.
poor man's c63 amg, i rather buy a model 3 performance and shit on this benz crap!
Rhyme905 Lol, this kind of comment usually comes from people who can’t even afford it regardless. I chose this car because of what it offers. I can easily buy a 63s, but the 43 offers the perfect balance. And besides, people who choose a 63s as a “special car” are poor anyways.
@@FallINMItch44 If I had the money I would chose a C43 and not a model 3, I just don't like electric cars in general.
@@FallINMItch44 Totally agree, I had a 2017 C63s for a year and now I have a 2019 C43.
Having driven, A45, CLA45, C43, C63S and the old 5,5l 2014 V8. I really enjoy the 43.
It has nothing to do with money, it's about preferance. For me the 43 is perfect with the 4-matic here in snowy Sweden.
@@wagner0110 E63 would be the best, its 4.0 V8 with 4matic
Couldn’t find a more complete review than this !!!!!
Always thorough a review. Thanks
I gotta say this is a very nice Goldilocks middle ground. If you want more than the base C class high 6 seconds 0-60 but don't need or want that AMG price/speed, then C43 is great for most people. I live in a big city and a C63 would NEVER get to stretch it's legs, unless I am trying to get to the next red light as soon as possible..
Ace from a dig it spins which is why I traded the C63s for the GLC43 AMG SUV. 4matic is awesome and no one has beaten me off the line at a stop light.
Hi. Just found this channel. I really like how you present. I am coming from a 2015 335D Touring and was 99% set on the M340i Touring, and then this weekend took the C43 AMG for a drive and fell in love with it. At just over 40, I feel like driving a Merc sends a strange message, even though I know "this isn't your grandfathers Merc. Other than the Estate, the key things about my 335 that I love are the adaptive steering and suspension (I wouldn't buy a car without it ever again), the torque, which because it's a diesel is insane, and the interior including the infotainment incl the better stereo. The c43 had a great interior, stereo was AWESOME, performance was fantastic, including especially the steering, but I haven't had a chance to handle it hard around corners to see how it would compare to my 335D which I consider class leading. I found the Audi a bit twitchy if cornering on an uneven surface (repaired potholes). You gave it an A+ for handling, I was wondering if you could elaborate on that more? I am really torn because to my mind the M340i makes more sense on paper, but in my short test drive I didn't fall in love with it, the way I did the c43 (though some of that came down to the poor bmw dealer experience I had.
Bombshell indeed. Alex likes his speed.
Love the interior!
Excellent review….. all questions answered….. very well done.
Excellent review .. very informative ..C43 all the way
Excellent review, I got a 2019AMG C43 a month ago and I love it.
You memorized the info. Very good. Good comparisons too
Awesomely good review sir :)
amazing review thank u !!
I picked up mine yesterday, I chose the wagon. The perfect everyday car for a family guy who is a keen driver? I think so. Merc claim 4.8 to 60, but Sport+ with traction fully off and the dampers set to soft gets you to around 4s with a braked start.
I really liked your review, 1 new sub!
@Alex on auto Great review as usual. Keep up good work.
With very little tune C43 easily beats c63s! I have spend $1700 on tune and now I receive 460 hp and 475 torque. With 70/30% power distribution, C43 beats lots of other cars too
Dimitri Galdava does your tune void the car Warrantee?
@@wiljohn2011 Basically it will void once Something breaks down in engine transmission or in Powertrain.
I had to tune it back down to original.
Its not worth it. I have 5 year unlimited mile warranty and speeding aint worth it
Great video! I just wish you had included the G70 3.3T in the comparisons at the end.
theevilmrraven yea! I wanna see a g70 compared to the c43 and m340i. All three are great cars but Genesis offers a great warranty with their vehicles
good review from someone who finally seems to get what merc and amg are doing in not offering kill yourself if slightly wet or adverse conditions , models with compfort plus all the tech goodies you could want. I almost went for a c43 but once id driven the larger more GT e53 amg coupe, it was the clear winner for me, at 6foot 3 and wanting to sometimes take a couple of 5 foot 6 /7 boys with me, but loving the coupe looks. Id love to see you review this car......
I know this is late but this comment made me laugh so hard lol. Currently thinking of getting a used 2019 c43
Alex hows the steering feel and trans shift quality? ..in latest videos you barely touched these points
i would agree with you (and i was thinking about the Tesla 3) right until i switched the C43 on and heard that sexy sexy note :) i was sold :)
Haitham Chatta Exactly! My MB dealer told me to come in and just “go out and check it out. Turn it on if you like”.
I did and like you, I was sold! My 1st test drive was me driving it home.
Had no idea it crackled like it’s big bros - E63s & C63s. Snap, crackle, POP!
Oh yeah...the BRABUS upgrade for $6,000 pushes it over the 461-500hp mark, yet makes it cheaper than buying a C63s. Plus you get BRABUS’ perks:
MB
I would take a c43 it’s really the best in the class as far as gas powered cars go.
brendan meyler you say it as if no one drives gas powered cars😂
@Yunxiang Bai i guarantee my c43 would pwn any tesla around the track, lol but i do admit ive had one keep up with me on the highway
@Yunxiang Bai def have no chance from a stop for sure, and interesting point about the track, ive never driven one but ive heard they do not handle the best around corners so i assumed it was safe to say so! but i will never truly underestimate a tesla!
The only thing Tesla fan girls bring up is straight line speed…. Because that’s all they have. Unfortunately for Tesla, there are times when you’ll have to make turns and brake. This is where the C43 AMG will own it. So please, shhhhhh with the Tesla BS.
Love your reviews @alexonautos
But who takes their mercedes on rough dirt roads?
It’s been a year, can’t wait the review of new facelift 2021 E53 amg!
I have a C43 AMG Cabriolet. It's a lovely car. It gets lots of looks and comments. It's nicely quick and agile. It can get 30mpg on a road trip....BUT....the tires and wheels are VERY fragile. I have had 5 or 6 flat tires and 3 cracked wheels in the first 25k miles. I have had several other cars with low profile or run flat tires and not had this problem under identical road conditions. I feel uncomfortable taking it out of town because of the possible inconvenience of a flat tire or cracked wheel. Anything more than a 2 inch pothole is a huge threat to the tire and wheels on this car. Very sorry to have to report this because I love the car.
That's the run flat tires. Too stiff and provide little protection to the wheels. Swap them for all seasons and it will make a huge difference.
I think I'd go with the AMG C43
I am wondering what the value is for measuring the rear seat legroom with the front passenger seat 100% back. How many front passengers have their seat all the way back if they know there is someone sitting behind them? I am average height and in many cars, I wouldn't even reach the front of the footwell if I had the seat all the way back. Why not just adjust the front seat to a very tall person, say 6' 4" and be done with it?
Your size chart listed the Stelvio,do you mean Guilia?
Great review! Definitely got a sub from me. Love how you mentioned what your pick would be. Those two are on the top of my list too.
I am broke, i have zero money and i will never ever be able to get this car but just watching reviews on UA-cam draws a wide smile on my face as if I own the car 🥰😊
You work really hard and maybe you will have it one day, or even a better amg
Good review ! What is the color called please?
Just wondering, why did you have the XC60, Q5, I-Pace, and Velar in the comparo for leg and headroom? They're completely different classes of vehicles.
because he was probably high doign this review
@@Rhyme905 Makes sense 🤷🏻♂️😂😂
7:57 just a check... I am pretty sure that if you have the Dinamica (alcantara) insert, then the "leather" is MBTex. At least that's true for the 2021... this is nice and one of the reasons I'm interested in this car. thank you for the great vid :)
"Do You Want To Ride In My Mercedes Boy" Pebbles From 1988!!!
M340i 4 me. That B58 motor is quickly becoming a beast & I'm a gearhead who wrenches his own wheels.
You CAN change tracks using the steering wheel touchpad, by swiping it down.
I own a 2020 M340i xdrive and considered the Audi RS3, S4, and S5, Genesis G70 3.3, Volvo S60 T8, and Benz C43 AMG. I’m still not sold on the Tesla Model 3 simply because it’s so new. Build quality as you’d said is an issue, it can get pricey, handling is not on par with some others, and I want to hear that engine sound when I get on the pedal. From a cost perspective the Genesis is a lot of value for the money. My BMW cost just over 65k which isn’t cheap, but feel for what I got it’s less than the C43 comparably equipped. I must mention I also own a 2017 Audi S3, which my son is now driving. The S3 is a performance bargain at 50k, I only complain slightly about the rough ride quality of the Audi. Especially in dynamic mode. Thanks for the in-depth review. If I’m getting a C-class it would be the full-out C63 and that sweet engine.
I have a 2017 S3 too. Car is insanely fun. The only thing I can see myself upgrading to would be a S4, C43, or an RS3. I absolutely love these smaller cars. Blasts to drive.
I'm interested, when you say you considered the C43, did you test drive it? I am in the same boat coming from a 335D xDrive Touring and looking at the BMW M340i, which on paper I loved, but felt the ride was pretty hard. The C43 I drove this weekend I was blown away by, more than I can recall for a long time. I am still really torn, both are probably great cars. The Adaptive Suspension and Steering of my 335 is exceptional, I am worried about the Mercedes not meeting it for handling...
If you did more videos on more cars, I would only watch your channel. It's so damn comprehensive. Just data.
If I buy a Mercedes?? This is the one Alex.
Love this review but I've got to disagree on one thing - the M340i interior is pretty much the same as a base 330i, pretty disappointing given the difference in price.
Love my C43 wagon
Truly thinking of trading my Mach e for this. I miss performance engines 😢
Alex, on the sport buckets...do you mean they are more comfortable on the pre-2015 Model? Or on the 2015-2018 pre-face
lift?
Also, in my experience with a 2016 Model, the buckets stole a good 3-4 inches of leg room.
For starters he's wrong those aren't sport seats they are the AMG seats. Looking for comfort for long trips gets sport seats far more comfortable
That car has the least comfortable seat option. The ordinary AMG seats are comfortable. Ditch the run flats for better handling greater comfort and less tyre noise being transferred in to the cabin. I think the c43 would be improved proposition if included RWD as a lower cost lighter probably better steering option.
Love my AMG.
Joseph-san I love your materialism.
The bombshell is ridiculous
It's only mildly surprising at best. So yeah, somewhat ridiculous to call it a bombshell. 😏
Honestly! I love MB, that’s why I still keeping my AMG, but I’m enjoy driving my new 340i right now. Believe it or not the 340i M performance i have is a lot of fun to drive, you can feel the power than my AMG, imagine if it’s really an ///M car!? I’m pretty sure more fun...
Wait till the M3 comes out...The c43 can barely keep up with the base 40i
I just purchased a Genesis G70 3.3 TT and, for my money, I'm enjoying it much more for daily driving. There's also something satisfying about driving a car that's more rare than a typical C-Class.
But it is $22K Stinger underneath...
@@normt5463 is that really such a bad thing?
@@jacobnevarez5413 the Stinger with creaking doors and hatch opening?
@@normt5463 good thing the doors are not part of the chassis, and not shared with Genesis.
@@normt5463 Not 22K. And the chassis was designed with Genesis. A very nice handling car.
One thing I am not sure about is can you buy a C class (2015 to 2017) Mercedes that is not an AMG but looks exactly like an AMG with the premium package and can you save money by doing this as compared to buying the C43 AMG?
I saw a 2017 C class Mercedes convertible C250, 2.1 D with the premium package and it looked identical to the AMG car but as far as I understand this was not an AMG. Is this correct?
Owner of a 2018 C43 for almost 3 years. I intend to get another C43 after the warranty on mine expires. The new one will have the pops and bangs exhaust note which my current one doesn't have.
Yeah my 2020 pops big time.
Has it been reliable?
Wonder if the inline 6 will go into the C43.
Jaguar XE, Lexus IS 350 F Sport, and out of left-field the the Caddie CTS Vsport (with haggling) are contenders if you place a premium on handling. The G70 is good, but not sure on the depreciation hit.
Damn, a CPO C43 really sounds like a good deal, but what if I want to own one? The reliability scares me.
It’s reliable and it’s c400 engine with bumped up power and amg badge.
Armaan d Mann Nah, it’s not a C400 engine at all! Pure AMG from its core. If anyone knows anything about engines, then pop the trunk on both and you will see & know the difference. Not a C400 at all. Snap, crackle, pop!
T.A. Akinsete ok
How about S5 vs C43
The way the C43 sounds from a cold start and when changing to Sport+ is worth every penny. Most shortcomings of the car are no big deal.
This or a m340i?
@@grandmastagrimm8773 I didn't say anything about m340.
Would it be possible to include a quick review of microphone audio quality/volume for hands free driving? Thanks!
Since Alex never replies especially if he's wrong. The audio for phone is very clear and easy to use
Ian Camarillo it’s awesome...trust me!
why is the g70 not in the list of competitors?
Why don't you review the 3 series
Seems like the MOST direct competitor is the M340i, but it didn't get a mention in the entire review until the very end. And even then it was pretty high level. Why?
Where do you got the 4.0 seconds 0-60 ?
By pushing on the gas pedal
4.5 is actual ..4.1 is claimed by mercedes.
I like c43, but isn't the car for people at their 20s the best. maybe e43 or cls-550 suit me better.
C43 or model 3 today?
I will pick model 3 as well
It doesn’t look too bad.
I would get the Model 3 myself, if it weren't for lack of parts and the inability to repair body damage without a long wait.
Yeah, now that I see the cost of this, I see why everyone wants the 3
Do you normally buy cars with the assumption that it will crash into a wall?
@@shankhadeepshome3982 I am a good driver, and the Tesla is a safe vehicle; that doesn't mean it can't be hit while parked or rear-ended by another driver.
@@shankhadeepshome3982 I normally buy cars with the assumption that parts and body panels would be available for the car for years and years to come. Apparently with Tesla that's not the case. And yes, that's a pretty big deal for many people.

Its an overpriced VW Passat.
Take a look at the Kia Stinger with the V6.
Built quality is on par with the Arteon, good sounding V6 and 7 year warranty.
And it looks good too :)
Drove one. Wind noise at high speeds coming from side windows is very much evident.... not sure why merc/Amg engineers couldn't resolve that.
I own a ‘19 c43 coupe and you are absolutely right! The wind noise especially on the highway is very evident and annoying.
But it is a fantastic car otherwise lol!
Very informative review - thanks! (Now I need to more seriously look at the Tesla Model 3)
Man I want the A35 and 45 in the US.
C43 of course
Lol it's crazy only 3 engine options in the US. We get from the C180 starting at 156 hp. 6 petrol versions and 2 diesel versions. C180 (1.6 from previous gen), C200 (with the new 1.5 litre and 48v system), C250 (same 2 litre as C300 but detuned), C300, C43 and C63. Then diesel is C220d (with their amazing new 2 litre diesel) and C300d with the same diesel engine but more power and torque. I'm still hoping the offer it as a C400d with their new inline 6 diesel.
SDav21 technically we get 4 engine choices, but yeah you make a good point. Americans also are not big diesel fans lol.
@@pfeamg9658 The diesel engines are so good though. If you could just experience the new 2 litre diesel or their new inline 6. So quiet. So refined. So economical. And oh so full of torque. I know someone with an E220d and they were averaging 53 mpg at one point. It's insane. :-)
SDav21 oh I hear ya and agree. But over here it’s either electric or gas (unless you are looking at trucks to tow stuff). Jag makes a couple of sedans and I think Chevy still does as well. That’s about it lol. So even if we wanted them we couldn’t order them as they aren’t offered here.
DCT?
im bimmer guy but im really digging the C43 coupe or E53
Is it really going from 0-60 in 4.0 seconds ?
Yes

AWD was the determining factor for me

It's not how many cylinders and liters, it's what you do with them.
C43 is a great car, and to my mind, the best in the class. The Tesla just looks so boring and having to worry about charging if you drive any real distances makes it a nuisance. And no sound, which is a killer. Drive should excite all sense and that includes our ears. Nicely done MB.
The 2019 C300 2.0 has 255 hp not 225 hp on your chart.
Darn the fat fingers!
I’m torn between the m340i and c43
I'm coming from a BMW 335D and I am in the same boat. M340i is better on paper, but I LOVED the c43 test drive I did.
Isn’t there a c450 as well
That was in 2016
In the same day, you boldly chose the Tesla 3 over the C43, and Sofyan Bey boldly chose the Tesla 3 over the 330i. I guess I need to go test drive the Tesla!

c43 or model 3 AWD?
poor man's c63 amg, i rather buy a model 3 performance and shit on this benz crap!
Rhyme905 you’re not a car enthusiast I want to hear those revs it’s your choice anyway I’m not into electric cars I’ll take the C43 all day
Time for a full re-design. It feels like it’s been out 10 years.
Why do you compare to models 10-15 years ago? Vehicles are evolving so quickly year after year that even a 5 year comparison is irrelevant. Plus, the 2017 C63 is also rated around 3.9 seconds because it is rwd.
I’d probably go for the M340i. I think the interior is nicer and the overall styling is more attractive
MN exterior styling has gotten a little ovoid lately.
Why no comparisons to the BMW 3 series. It is a major mistake in this review.
Some non car enthusiasts who are cry babies are crying it’s not a real AMG Incase you don’t know AMG had lower variants from way back such as the C32,C36 their engines weren’t hand crafted back then C43 was the top of the line before the C55,E55 and S55 now there’s an AMG GT73 4 door coupe coming with about 800hp a perfect competition to the Porsche Panamera hybrid in another 20 years when the AMG 63 variants becomes the base then people will call it fake these are things we need common sense for great review but the part you mentioned 225hp for the C300 instead of 255hp there’s a slight upgrade from 241hp with 14 more ponies to make it 255hp overall nice review anyway
oriri ona spot on brother!
It's what the marketing people do...Hey! It's a AMG model....A "light" model mine you. but still, I do like the coupe version of this model. However, if I just had to choose a "lite" version of this class, I'd go with the M340i w/ X Drive from BMW and be really happy with my pick!
poor man's c63 amg, i rather buy a model 3 performance and shit on this benz crap!
Rhyme905 Well, this man is not poor and I still use my new C43 as an everyday driving car (well, weekdays that is). I eat up 💩ty Duracell batteries daily on my commute (lol). That trash is not on this level (lol).
And with the BRABUS upgrade, yeah this isn’t even a real conversation (LOL). Enough said.
@@t.a.akinsete keep dreaming idiot, the P3D 0-60 is 3.5-second while cars you listed are both 4.5, there is no way you are "eating up" anything. the tesla is faster than both of those dino cars, have fun changing shitty engine oil. you probably drive a mercedes B class with AMG badges XD
