Building a CONCRETE RIVER TABLE w/ DIY No-Weld Metal Base
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лип 2024
- Today on Modern Builds I'm creating a totally DIY, white concrete river coffee table with a no-weld steel base. Live edge river tables made with wood slabs have been crazy popular trend as of late and I wanted to put my own spin on it! Look forward to more concrete experiments like this in the future!!

Been really looking forward to this seeing this since you talked about it on the podcast and it definitely didn't disappoint! Really clever solution to not having a welder - both cheap and effective - and the cracked edge of the concrete looks amazing! I love the tactility and intricacy it brings which contrasts with the rest of the design, and although I see where others are coming from re. the open space with a coffee table I personally don't think you ever really need to use the full surface as the edges are plenty for mugs, books etc :)
JMakes without the glass it looks more like a museum piece.
I like the project but you put the dry ingredients into the water - not the other way around. Then you add more water if needed
@@m3selfs950 It doesn't really make a difference in the end result, especially if you aren't using any admixtures.
I think I would have placed a thick slab of glass over it.
Dingoart that could look cool, but I still wanted people to be able to touch the ‘live edge’
@@ModernBuilds | think you should have added a tinted piece if glass in the middle of the table.
or under the concrete!
@@ModernBuilds Why? People are going to spill their coffee when they set it down. It's a cool concept I guess but not very practical.
@@the_jonathan_o everyone does that. I like that he wanted to do something different.
Love this book! ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. Amazon was great, they delivered on time. Thank you!
It would be great if you feel the gap in the middle with transparent epoxy, that way you have the visual result you want and at the same time it's functional.
I’d like to see someone else do it!! I really like the idea of being able to touch the live edge. Plus there’s about 12” of usable space on each side which is plenty of room for cups, plates, or magezines
yeah i was expecting to see this towards the end, it would've made it look like a finished product
I agree. Securing the top and filling in the middle would be awesome... feels a little incomplete, but still an awesome table.
@@blackbeanburger3357 Sometimes the best things aren't what you expect... Great work Mike. Love the choices and fully support them
i thought the same thing i was expecting some flash blue epoxy table
So, does he, like, sell these or does he just have WAAAY more coffee tables than the average person?
Maybe he likes coffee
No he gives them away to family or family friends as he said in one of his old videos from last year I think
J.C. Taylor lmao
Haha!! I do store a few, but mostly I just give them away to friends or family
Chris eats them.
Can't wait till you reach 1 mil
I really like this method. My only concern is how you ensured the vertically of the augured 20mm holes?
Yaaasss I got so excited seeing this notification!!!
How did the concrete stay put on top?
i thought it was going to be one of those videos where you fix things with ramen 😂😂😂
Looks super slick....dig it! 🔥🔥
Hey Mike. Awesome video, thank you! I watched your previous video where you experimented with the white portland and aquarium stone. I'm wondering if you still feel that the white marble chips are the best aggregate for white concrete, or if you found something that you felt performed best for strength and color?

I was going to ask for a job as a welder. but this glue surprised me. hahahah
superrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!! minimal
Supercool mike
a true banger
Excellent. But how did you attach the concrete top to the base?
They’re heavy enough I didn’t fell like it was necessary, but if you wanted to run a bead of adhesive the base that would work
Same question arrive to me??
@@ModernBuilds what kind of adhesive would you use? I tried using Gorilla Glue's construction adhesive for a similar project but it didn't hold very well to the concrete
@@sjandu If you really want it secure you could drill a couple little holes into the underside of the concrete (don't go all the way through) and anchor a coil rod into the concrete using a two part anchor epoxy, then weld or bolt the coil rod to the base. That sucker ain't moving anywhere. Better yet if you plan ahead just float the coil rods in before the concrete has fully set. You can get some anchoring epoxy at home depot: www.homedepot.com/p/Quikrete-8-6-oz-Fast-Setting-Anchoring-Epoxy-862030/203604177?g_store=6655&mtc=Shopping-B-F_D22-G-D22-22_9_CONCRETE-Generic-NA-Feed-LIA-NA-NA-&cm_mmc=Shopping-B-F_D22-G-D22-22_9_CONCRETE-Generic-NA-Feed-LIA-NA-NA--71700000045600364-58700004679444416-92700039576811666&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpfHzBRCiARIsAHHzyZrGYo5FxQRavB_Cu60ci06iyAAoFCWe92G4TD85ftVEG5wlXRG7HKsaAh40EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Are you going to put resin in it?
where is the river??? :D
I was expecting something like the back forest wood tables
Nice!~
Death trap table..
If no welder available, just rivet those corners. Done
my dad uses RYOBI tools for hes job LOL
@ 2:05, than you for annunciating caulk.
I need a garage and start doing these things instead of watching my eyes off....lol
So relatable. I can't wait to have a garage.
Hope you have one now or are on your way to one :)
Rhyzal not yet but still on the watch...buying new tools stacking stuff so when the day comes i will be ready...
The concrete just sits on the frame? Nothing to hold them together?
Nick Wisda just gravity... you could run a bead of adhesive if you wanted but no need
Cool is right 💙💙💙💙💙💙
Clear resin in the middle???
What a guy! Massive fan from uk
Why is that 1M subs with 200K views and only 7K likes?!
I press the like before watching, since I know it would be great video, as always 😉
What have you been listening to on Audio Tree live fam?

Indigo de Souza 🤙🏻🤙🏻 you??
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They do sell big black caulk.
This once again confirms my theory that white paint looks good on everything. Killer job man! 👊
Ive been waiting ages 4 your next video. Thats not complaining btw. Im just glad you didnt die or something
🙄🙂
Itzik's DIY Ideas. Can i subscriib
Cheerios me too!! Editing takes too long!!! 😂😂
Fab
What did this cost you all together
Can u plz use resin
i thought you would feel the middle with transparent epoxy that will look like a river
Or a coloured middle would be cool, one to match the room it's in or something
Cat Sucker okay, so I’m not the only one 😂.
I was literally waiting for that.. like a clear aqua colour!!
Same
I saw this video waiting for that
Is there like a website or something one can go to see different types of material for furniture because recently I decided to get a hobby in building furniture

You're leaving a big gap down the center????

And what have you got to show us?

Mike, this makes me actually want to do a concrete project
So there's a hole in it?
This guys looks so lovable 😊👌🏻
Mike, what happened to your podcast with Chris and Ben?
DimON new episode every week! Modern Maker Podcast
@@ModernBuilds I am not seeing any new episodes for the last 3 weeks (((((
So you just left it open?
a subtracted or negative river table
with epoxy in the middle is better. i guest?
7:29 😄😄😄
Do you think I could scale this base up to make a desk?
Mikey Does Art I think so.. I would get larger steel.. 1” square tube at least and larger brackets.. but I think it’d be strong
Nice! Not fair that you’re cute, smart and able to build stuff. Where do I apply to date ya? Jk lmfao
Where's the river?
Like the look of the table Mike. Not convinced on praticality, probably need to seal the joint to stop dust. Diluted PVA would probably do the job without affecting the aesthetic. Regarding the no weld method, why does nobody use pop rivets these days? They are a really low tech solution and can look great. Just a thought.
I like that you try to make your projects accessable to those of us without massive workshops and love your enthusiasm. Thanks for the great content. 👍
First comment! What’s up!! Haven’t even finished watching the vid yet but so far it’s a banger 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
POUR EPOXY RESIN PLEASEEEE HAHA
now spil the coffee on unsealed concrete
broken cement lover)))))
I would have weld it all together, and put epoxy where the crack is...
Looks great! I dig the emphasis on the "L" in caulk.
Highly unorthodox.. but I'll allow it.
👍👍👍
Am I the only only one watching this knowing I'm a never gonna go any if it
First view like and comment!
You Should put i some LED lights to light up that beautiful concrete edge
big Q: mike's relationship status?
Big fan of your channel and the podcast! Not sure you guys ever came up with a better name for this kind of project, but I'd go with "CANYON TABLE." Geological formation of river once the water's gone--seems fitting. Cool project, keep em coming!
Q: what do you like as a partner
Me: who can build and love art❤️hahahha
This table is cool😍😍

no black resin in the middle of the slabs with clear resin outlining the live-edge parts?
Is the concrete top just sitting on the base, not attached?
7:24 and wayyyyy stronger
Your filmsy platform bed you've made in a video long ago is still in good condition?
I love when a maker goes back to basics so us little people can easily recreate what they've seen. Thanks Mike, very nice job.
Extremely cool build. Accessible too.
Where is the blue epoxy for the river??
4:03 he just put his glasses in the tub he did the concrete in wtf
Im convinced mike is now just making things just to jump on them
Prathik Ravel you caught me 😂😂
That’s it?
Its so sleek yet but gives the perfect amount of texture! I need this!
Mixed Kidd you have really nice hair
Coughing thank you☺️
I came here after watching your round table video. Loved that project. In this there is enough space on each side. But filled up centre just feels functional.... n this gap feels like the project is incomplete.
Though it’s ur choice n ur liking obviously.... just putting across my thought process. No offence intended. Moreover the amount of hard work u put into it was commendable.
Loved the build. Turned out great. This belongs in a modern museum of art.
Gorilla glue products for the win!
prolificbreed- definitely not flex tape
I was waiting for that epoxy I'm not gonna lie, and also
sexy and talented? my heart can't take it
Why no glass piece in the metal so its a full coffee table?
Agreed
It's a coffee table for careful people. 😉
Lol dont question it people might get but hurt on why it looks Weird and unfinished...God forbid anyone do that...lol🤣😂🤣😂
I like having the void... that’s just how I wanted to do itjust
Like 👍
Skater Boi ankles when the concrete cracked Haha. Really nice build!
OMG that’s pretty! Are you putting glass over it to cover up the river.
sooo theres a hole in the center....
Mark Magner yeah... be carful where you put your coffee 😜
Dude, that's a nice build, not only the result but the proces and material choices was interesting
Clever project
Can't wait to see the results. It would be my favorite table. 😂👅🙊👍👍👍👏👏👏
Those Reebok’s though 👌🏽... I need to know which ones they are exactly. Look like classics.
Mike, this is sick! That reveal was absolutely perfect. The music. The lighting. The edits. But especially the end result - this is a gorgeous piece. Dayum!!
Always wondered if brackets epoxied in place would work, always intended to find out. Great video, thanks!
Russell Borrego same!! Really glad they did 😂
Premixed concrete will cheaper.
