Not only can you shorten a box, but you can lengthen one also. From a 10 x 7 x 4 to a 12 x 5 x 4 on the short end flap measure 2 inches in from the right, and cut a line from the top to the fold. Do the same on the bottom flap making the two cuts line up. On the other end flap, measure 2 inches in from the left, and make the cuts from the top to the fold on both top and bottom flaps. Perforate the box between the two cuts to make a straight line on both ends. Push the box out where the perforations are. Now you have a skinner, longer box. It is actually easier than shortening a box. I have never seen you talk about lengthening a box, which I had to do to ship some train cars.
Yep, I've covered it but with over 1100 videos it can be easy to miss. It is sort of like the tip I gave in this video of turning the flat rate envelope into a box by extending the bottom flaps. That is an example of making a parcel bigger to fit more.
Excellent, informative, and entertaining! Also clean and crisp, smooth and seamless. Unbelievable that you did 100 tips in 10 minutes. I think ebay, amazon, whatnot, etc. should purchase the rights from you to use this as an instructional video to offer on their platforms. What is the reason not to use Priority Shipping materials as packaging in nonPriority Packages? Judging by the number of outfits, you did this in just a couple of days? Way to start 2023! Happy New Year!
Thanks so much, Lina! I definitely hope that it gets out there and is used as a reference by many because it could save so many people lots of time and money and. The reason why you can’t use priority, shipping materials, and non-priority shipping boxes is that the priority shipping materials are provided to sellers for free to entice them to use the priority shipping service. So if they take the free priority items and use them for a non-priority service, then it defeats the point, and raises the price of priority shipping for everybody. it actually took me about a little over a week to make this video. After I wore the Ford shirt, I just decided to keep the blue solid shirt on for the rest of the video lol. Happy New Year’s to you as well!
@@PrimeTimeTreasureHunter Also, if the post office opens your package (which they are allowed to do) and find anything Priority inside a non-Priority package, they will charge you or the recipient as if the package had been sent Priority. Ditto if you try to wrap a Priority box in brown paper.
This is pretty incredible- had to take a ton of time to compile. I think you have the most and best shipping tips than any other YT reseller, I’m always recommending your channel to the newbies. I even picked up a couple for myself… can’t ever stop learning when you’re a reseller. I do a variation on the cardboard piece topper… I’ll shut the small flaps of the box and place the cardboard piece in before closing the top box flaps. Works excellent (especially on the flimsy USPS boxes) and can usually get away with a little less void fill since the inside flaps get pushed down.
Thanks so much, Blynn! I really appreciate that. Hopefully it helps ppl. Yes, this took quite awhile to make! Great tip yourself there! Thanks for sharing!
I'm still watching but thank you for putting this together! I definitely need to get a new scale, most of my items weigh less than my scale allows (I think it's 10 pounds) but I've had to use the bathroom scale trick a few times, and I definitely feel like a rookie when I do that hahaha I was looking for a 3" tape gun a few weeks ago and couldn't find one, so when I get through my tape that I got for Christmas, I will use your link!! OK, back to the video, but liked and shared, hugs to Daisy and take care! Happy New Year!! 🥳
Thanks Mary! You will love the 3” tape gun! It makes things so much easier and faster. And the scale is awesome. I’ve never had to change the batteries!
Great tips. It's been like 10 months since the last time I watched your videos or any videos related to Ebay or online selling. I'm back and it was great to find this video to refresh my memory and start again. Thanks!
I agree with mostly everything besides fragile stickers!!! Never ever put fragile stickers!!!!!!! I worked in a fed ex warehouse for 2 years. Workers will see the stickers, laugh, then throw the box!!! I'm not kidding one bit. Wish I was
Wow I had to watch this just to see how you were going to do this! Hahaha but by golly you got all 100 in 10 minutes woo hoo! I am a 27-year reseller on eBay, and I must say I employ every single one of these however this is an invaluable video especially for newer resellers. I personally want to thank you for the time you put into this to help others. It's fantastic.
Thank you for all the great information, some of it I had to learn over the years by trial and error, so having it out there for other people is excellent. Happy new year to you and your family.
Once I was out of any boxes for first class shipping of a small - all I had was brown shopping bags. I cut a bag in half, wrapped the little item in bubble wrap, taped the bag, place the shipping label to hide the name of the grocery store - that is it! Easy accepted by USPS. We are a green family - I felt double :) great! Using those since then - the most important is the bags are clean and the item inside safe and packed in crispy clean wrap. Not professional, but works - especially for occasional sellers like myself. I hope someone will grab my green idea!
Absolutely awesome video with a plethora of valuable shipping tips!! I'm going to have to watch several times in case I missed anything 😁. I break those box chumpies down, discreetly write the size on them and store them like records albums in one big huge box...that way I can flip through, see sizes and reassemble when needed. I just read USPS is discontinuing Regional Rate Boxes in Jan....not thrilled as I have used them a lot to save costs. You can not say that enough about cereal boxes LOL. Yes...I'm a trimmer and chopper to save weight. LOVED this vid!!! Awesome work!!!!!!!
Good point and I knew someone would afl this. So, I use the drop off if it’s a ton of stuff and I’m in a rush but only because I know my post office will scan them that day. So, it’s really both. If it’s not a ton of orders then I know it will be scanned when the pick up comes or if I drop it off to the front desk with the clerk.
I can sometimes trash pick shipping boxes and packing materials on my daily walks through the alley to the post office. Also, my local recycling center is a source for free packing peanuts.
Wholesale clubs usually have racks of cardboard boxes you can take. Usually they aren't good for shipping, but some of them can be cut to make good stiffeners and fillers.
Do you know the cheapest route to ship internationally? I have to ship 2lbs to Australia. Are there international flat rate envelopes? I normally ship first class international.
The physics of impact energy transfer doesn't support the idea of void fill inside hollow vessels as a way of reducing breakage. The impact energy transfers from the outside in, meaning it transfers to the hollow object before any residual energy reaches whatever void fill you stuffed inside it. The goal always is absorbing the impact energy before it affects the integrity of the hollow object (or any object really) you want to arrive intact.
Filling the void is also to keep the space from trapping hot or cold air and then being shipped into the opposite temperature (like from 82* Florida to 24* Maine) and causing temperature shock, which can fracture or break glass and fragile items.
Love your trademark doubletap! To date, this is the most informative shipping/packing video I've seen, thank you!
Thanks! Please let others know
What a great, useful video, Dominick. Great way to start a year. 2023 is going to be a great year, I know it will, and I'll be watching!

Excellent, excellent, excellent tips. Short and sweet, too! Much appreciated.
Thanks Lou!

I was never good at physics but it does add volume and that seems to work so I stick with it
