We need more Jeff videos.
On point 🎯
Totally Agree
Totally!
Also agree.
i miss the times when every video was a jeff video
These videos are always the best way to see the new features! Despite the limited changes, the features they did add really look useful, more so than the last few years. Excited for this one!
Jeff!!!! 🗣️ so glad to hear you do this review! I’m glued
Thanks for tuning in!
Finally! Get us more videos with Jeff!
Wow. This update is really underrated. There’s so many little things that just make the experience so much better. I can’t wait for the official release!
what kind of game changing in this? all this was on windows xp.. for free!!!
are you joking or what?
Im always looking forward to these extended calming videos of Jeff showing the new Apple Software updates. I just grab a coffee, sit back and enjoy. Thanks!
Glad to have you back Benjamin. I have missed your reviews.
Thanks for this video, I have the developer beta running on a backup mini M1, but I haven't had time to check out the new features yet.
As someone who loves the apple community. I always look forward to Jeff videos on Apple software. Please Keep the videos coming. This community needs you!
Thanks, really appreciate that.
Yes!! Jeff's thorough and deep dives into new software releases are the best!
Yesss. Another great video by my man, Jeff! Love your walkthroughs!!!
Great video! I look forward to the official release. By the way, I've been using MacPaw for a couple years and highly recommend it.
Amazing video. Thank you for your great work.
I always look forward to these videos! Very thorough!
Jeff, 29 minutes video, and HDR, what else for someone to ask!! 👌
Excited about many of these features. Web apps and a usable search of messages are both very welcome. I wish Apple would expand the ability to link things across native apps (like a link to a pdf in finder to a note or a reminder or a Freeform board to a note)
I think the linking will expand in future versions of macOS, or at least I hope it does. Notes is a good and relatively safe way to start, although linking in some form has been available in even earlier versions of macOS.
Another one that is good is Tab Group sharing.. so if example if you have a tab group to researching a topic or looking for gift ideas for kid etc.. you can do that collaboratively now 👍🏾
I was waiting for this video, good to hear Jeff's voice!
Best Sonoma overview, excellent work Jeff
Love the new lock screen features, but honestly its the desktop widget support that will be a GAME CHANGER. Whether placing a few on main desktop - or setting up a special desktop to house a ton of widgets (aka: Mission Control on steroids) - I cant wait for Sonoma to release!!!!
Microcrap’s desktop widgets were extremely limited and completely useless IMO. These widgets that mirror my phone, that’s the way to do widgets
Dual screen widgets are awesome and well thought out
Thx for the detailed review
i get my wallpapers through the bing start nmenu extension, decided to download it when moving from windows. i absolutely love it because it shows beautiful landscapes and scenery. this new dynamic feature might beat that though, i'll try it.
I installed the update a week ago and I couldn't find what was new. Thank you sir
incredible walkthrough. thanks Jeff!
I am SO excited for the new updates to Reminders. Definitely long overdue! 24:48
As always, thank you Jeff!!!
Great info, thanks; Do you know if there are shortcuts to format Apple Notes, e.g font, font size and font colour? I'd love to be able to do this.
Fantastic! Very helpful Jeff!
Currently running the beta. It's doing well, some hiccups but to be expected. Tons of useful features, the web apps are pretty cool.
Excellent overview. Thank you.
Thanks for the video! There appears to be some new widget designs? I've never seen the big date one before, or the new clock design...looks like we're being spoiled with three choices! I spotted that's probably from the iOS standby mode...are there other design changes in widget land?
Not even gonna lie I don’t watch these videos anymore unless it’s from Jeff Benjamin. Miss your videos man!
This is the best overview video I’ve seen.
Excellent presentation and very well edited.
Great job, very valuable.
MacOS Sonoma brings us dynamic wallpapers. Now my desktop can have motion sickness too
The whole widget thing is 100% taken from the MacOS Tiger days. I remember the dashboard. Was so awesome back then and this is a better representation of it. Apple has got an AMAZING UI/X team MacOS and iOS used to feel like two different beasts but now they sort of just come together in harmony to create an awesome eco system.
Wow nice and looking forward to more features!
Excellent video, thanks Jeff!
Looks very modern. Probably going to buy mac in the near future
Wow. HDR preview and UA-cam video, chapter, detailed information. Subbed..
Jeff is back yeahhhhh
Those FPS drop in those lock screen gave me anxiety.
Hopefully it's just a beta thing
Love the dynamic wallpapers/lock-screens. There was a time (not long ago - well, maybe a long time ago, depending on a person’s age) when this would have crippled the average computer. These kind of remind me of the windows aquarium screensaver from decades ago. It’s amazing to see how far things have come!
They are awesome, for sure. And yeah, you’re right. My M2 Mac mini basically handled everything, including this entire edit in 5K60p HDR like a champ.
I have used the Marine Aquarium by SereneScreen as my screen saver for many years and I still use it on my M2 MBA.
@@shortblack2984yup. I’ve used it for over 20 years.
Is it possible to view the 'Scheduled' reminders list in column view?
Bring back the Flying Toasters !!! I LOVED those
Yes, MOAR Jeff videos
Though I used to be a heavy Windows user, after purchasing M2 Macbook Air I was pretty impressed with how well the product is made including its OS. Now I am so excited about those updates coming to my lovely Mac!! Btw nice video with detailed explanation!
Damn, screen recording in HDR! I love it, it's my 1st time ever seeing it too. That's one major reason to get an XDR Display, although it still doesn't justify the enormous Apple Tax for me.
I’m severely tempted
Great video
Jeff? Whoa.. you are back?
Are dynamic wallpapers only supported on Apple silicon Macs?
How can I turn off the caps lock indicator? i use CAD in caps and its driving me crazy.
Sonoma has a lot of slick changes under the surface that aren’t immediately apparent. Like how the os now matches the real life Apple logo on your Mac when it boots up
How stable it works? Docker, JetBrains IDEs, Teams?
hou you add the app shortcuts in homescreen ,safari Final Cut etc
Can we cut and paste files though?
I can see myself using a lot of the new features. not the widgets, I never got around to using Wedgets
way more than I thought!
Love the AI updates.
My only concern is that how can i remove or uninstall pre loaded apps in my macbook air 15 m2. I tried everything but irt is not working at all
how do you zoom out on the wallpaper
I live for these videos❤
Apple has stressed only on cosmetics changes in both Mac and in iPhone in this year update. Playing with widgets changing wallpapers I have done this more then a decade ago. There are many key features and functionality which is still missing. .
I think they want to focus on cosmetics until they can go completely silicon so they can take advantage of it and not give anything to intel
The web app feature is an small but underrated feature. I've been missing that.
Yep! Remember we actually used to have it around 2009-2010 in older version of Safari? Finally it's back in a better form.
I wish more then anything that we have live wallpapers on the desktop, not just lock screen.
I will find the Profiles very useful to separate my work and personal.
No clock and profile picture on lock screen looks clean ngl
i love how you have no things on your desketop. it honeslty looks really clean.
I'm really hoping the speech recognition accuracy is going to improve, voice control in Monterey and Ventura were not great. I've heard in a couple places where they mention "next level speech recognition"
Windows has had all of the same functionality you guys finally got in the Mac world. We've had desktop widgets since Windows 7. We can also use dynamic wallpaper but actually on the desktop. We can also have different widgets on the virtual desktops if we want. I do like the way MacOS looks so I made my Windows 11 look like Sonoma.
good to see you again , Jeff~
Thanks for stopping by. More to come for sure!
I do like the animated wallpapers.
However, I don’t like the location of the username/password prompt on the lock/login screen.
I’m so used to seeing it in the center of the screen.
How to disable the click on my desktop?. --- the UX dies not work for me, I don't use widgets and I'm always clicking on my screen since I have eight screens,
the way the apps get out of the way of the widgets is so satisfying
Thanks Jeff for the usual detailed explanation of a new operating system. Now that we will not have to say hey siri in iOS 17 to summon Siri, do you think a time will come when I’ll be able to summon my digital assistant by using my favorite person’s name for instance “ Jeff what’s the weather like”. Just a thought.
Gotta love Ducky Benjamin
We have been using Aerial to get those Apple TV screensavers for years now on older versions of MacOS lol….
The blinking blue line when entering a field such as this is driving me crazy. It is thick and distracting. Is there anyway to turn this back to a thin black line like it was before?
Wait when did Jeff come back??
I am not able to get the right clickmenu any more on the Desktop, so no way to use the Widgets it seems. It did work on the previous OS, so it must have to do something with Sonoma. Anyone has the same problems?
can anyone give me an honest opinion on the cleanmymac app , because i've read many things and since im new to the mac ecosystem I dont want to screw it up
Nothing groundbreaking, I've nvr really found the needs to use widgets on my phone. And they stayed hidden from my macs too. I think the only function that I will use are the updates in notes.
Did Apple revise the obnoxious full screen black-out of all secondary monitors for those who actually like to continue working while a full screen video plays on a second or third monitor?
If you can get hold of HDR 4K video from OG IMAX film footage, use that as dynamic wallpaper. Why? Closest video quality to static photo
Finally, Dahlia recognition! Hopefully they’ve also added at least 17 more warnings when you try to launch an app from an unidentified developer. I just want to be able to say “hey siri, run the space heater for 30 minutes”. Or get really crazy and ask her to change the intensity AND colour of a light at the same time. I’d also really love to NOT have a fat stack of notices about background processes that don’t disappear unless I manually dismiss them. Oh, and if you have time after you finish bearded dragon recognition for the next update, maybe you could fix icons for aliases, which has been broken for a decade.
Best bed time story ever!
What monitor is that?
I really miss those days when the system really innovated, I didn't see anything that other apps do nowadays.
I miss Steve.
bro this update is available for MacBook Air m1
Game Mode is not included for Macs with intel processors.
So I downloaded this beta software and it was good for a week, but then it started glitching and I could not use my arrow keys so I downgraded back to Ventura.
This video looks awesome on my iPad Pro M1 with high nits BLAST for HDR video 😂
My wallpaper is no longer appearing in desktop mode. I can only see the widgets on a grey background
When are they getting universal control for iphones?
When they add mouse support, which won't be until you can dock it to a monitor.
Anyone remember Konfabulator and its widgets? No inovation from Apple, just repacking what was once here and they killed it. Dashboard 😅
How to instantly know this was an HDR video just by the preview: The SONOMA text piercing my eyes in the dark on iPhone 14 Pro Max 😆
Welp, I saw the wallpaper videos/photos on your video but my mac won't download them, sadge, I can't try them out. Also the webapp thing is awesome for netflix, now we have a real app and not a browser tab
update: I restarted my mac and now it can download, wierd.
What bothers me the most is that there's no option for the desktop icons to fade out with the widgets - doesn't feel consistent that the desktop widgets fade out but icons right next to them don't.
The Finder aside from the toolbar and sidebar is very old. There are still many OS X elements despite being 4 versions ahead of 21 years of OS X now.
Question, is there interactive Widgets on Mac just like iPhone and iPad now
Yes
Aerial Companion has made AppleTV screensavers possible on the Mac for a long time
does macOS Sonoma work on MacBook Pro 13inches m1 chip 8g rams ? I am scared of upgrading . thank you
Of course. They're not dropping M1 for at least 2 years after dropping Intel.
