I enjoyed the video very clear and easy to follow along ,my only idea or comment would be that I would use a brush or a spray bottle to add the oil to the timing chains for a less messy way thats all .
For anyone else watching: Please do not rest your wrench against the other cam during your torqueing procedure. With the torque being applied from the caps and their located force from said caps, you are much more likely to snap a cam do to it being unsupported under the cam in the location where you're resting the wrench.
Did u turn the engine to make sure it turned freely? I’m doing a chain now have everything lined up perfect and can’t get it to turn much I tried for hours and no luck 😢.
Curiosity kills the cat. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but why are you calling the right side the left side, and the left side the right side? Is the orientation of the motor judged from the back on the vk56de?
That's correct. The orientation is judged as if you were sitting in the truck. So driver side is always left and passenger side it right. It just seems weird because when we're working on our cars were always looking at them from the front so it feels backward.
Hi Ry, great video you made. This is a good tutorial for everyone who wants to install the timing kit by himself/herself. May I ask your actual feedback about this Melling timing kit? They look beautiful and very quality made. How does the engine perform after this Melling timing kit replacement? Normal and good?
Also why can’t you put the chain on the gears in time than put the gears on the cams. All you would have to put in time is the crank? Just curious, because I want to do cams swap in my Titan. VK56DE FOR THE WIN BABY!
Ry, these videos are great! Can you tell me what manual you're using? I'm going to be doing timing chains, sprockets, and guides on my 2012 qx56 and would love to have a manual to reference. Keep up the good work, love the organization in your videos.
Awesome!! Question, I have a really high pitch screeching under the hpp. I'm aiming it's the eccentric cam bearings are gone bad. The cup and pump at the top are fine.. I have a 2015 qx80 M56. How do the needle bearings on the eccentric cam get oil.. Have u seen one with bearings that have failed? I really liked this video thanks.
I have been dealing with one of these engines and i got it all together and i dont have oil pressure at all. Im not sure what went wrong. Any thoughts? I have removed the upper pan and will probably end up removing the timing cover tomorrow.
Two thoughts. First, there could be missing O-rings at the connections from the pump to the pans or the front timing cover to the block, although it should still show some. Second (and the more likely scenario) is that you do have pressure and the sensors bad or the wires are not totally connected. Have you tried pre-oiling it? If you do does the oil come out of the cams?
Great video! I know I’m late to this, I’m doing the same thing to my Nissan Armada and it has the same engine as the titan, I’m curious if yours has oil squirters for the timing chain. I didn’t see you mention anything about them and my engine has them that they say you always replace when doing the timing chain replacement. Just curious if yours was already installed from engine shop or you put them in without filming?
Yes you should get Cam locks. I didn't use them because I was fully disassembling the engine anyways. No matter what everything was going to get out of time and I was going to have to redo it during reassembly.
Ry I’m having some trouble with a VK56. I could use your help if possible. Friends truck was diagnosed with leaky valve seals. We decided to replace them. Followed FSM to remove all said parts, marked cam sprockets and chains. Everything in the FSM was followed to a tee and everything went back together as it was supposed to. Get everything back together and it will not start. No codes. Has plenty of compression, getting plenty of fuel to the point it smells flooded and getting spark. Everything is plugged up and double checked. Took top front covers back off and after a couple revolutions the marks lined back up on the chains and sprockets again. Could it possibly be out of time?
@@Rythecarguy Yes sir. Cranks like it always does. Put a new crank sensor just for giggles and it’s reading over 200RPM when cranking with snap-on scanner. Only code that has popped up once is a P2101. TB is plugged up and connector looks good but may try a new TB to be sure.
I have a quick question, I have the M56 in an infinity qx80 almost the same. I can't for the life of me get the Harmonic balancer bolt out. It is super tight. So tomorrow I'm going with a 3/4 impact and see if that breaks it loose. Have you had any issues with super tight balancer bolts. If that dosent work I am going to have to heat the bolt not the balancer because it is a two piece pressed balancer. Thanks.
I have struggled with these. If your impact wrench doesn't take the bolt out try a large breaker bar with a pipe extension just make sure you lock your fly wheel or drive plate using a locking tool.
Hi friend. The video is awesome. Would you like to try our Boslla 4modes led headlight bulb? I have contacted you by email. Hope to work with you, thanks.
Well done Ry. Great precision and patience. Enjoyable to watch.
Thanks Mike and thanks for watching. 💪🏻👍🏻
Excellent...your patience is always impressive.
Thanks! I appreciate that 💪🏻
Good job Ry. I haver always been overkill on being clean. It has never let me down. Makes me want to do some engine work again.
Thank you! It's been stressing me out worrying about about keeping it all clean but I think we are good. 👍🏻

Just amazing Scott. Thanks man. :D Your namesake water pump makes his debut next week!
Wow great job!!
Thanks so much!
Love the videos ry! Keep em coming.
You got it!!!
A live stream of the last touches and the fist start would be rad... (But then again if she don't turn over we may have some problems hahah)
Oh, I like that idea.

Yea this engine has been great. I actually took it back out and moved it to an Xterra recently. It's been awesome.
So for some reason my timing marks on the original chain are not aligned. They are like 4 links off?
Do they make this kit for the qx80
Can you do the oil pump without dropping oil pan down in vehicle? Thanks

You could try that. I have done it before with differently designed cams. The issue is you basically need 4 hands no matter what way you do it.
How much is cost of replacing the chain..on nissan Titan 2009..?

Thank Luke! For all work on all my vehicles I use the Factory Service Manual. They are expensive but they have literally everything you need.
So on this 05 SE . The driver side or bank 1 the cam lob is in the right direction. Bank 2 pass side they are not in same position
New sub. Thanks for this 👍
Thanks for the sub!

That or you could have forgotten the collar that slides over the crank and into the oil pump.
Dude, just get 2 adjustable spanners and then clamp them together by the handles holding the cams locked together in time

No, there was not a specific part. Oil comes down from the heads and the from the tensioners.
01:24 Very nice!
Huh?
I didn't see that you put cam locks when pulling the chain. Getting ready to do the timing on 05 SE should I get cam locks?
Yes you should get Cam locks. I didn't use them because I was fully disassembling the engine anyways. No matter what everything was going to get out of time and I was going to have to redo it during reassembly.
@@Rythecarguy curious when in top dead center off marks on the harmonic balancer. Why are 3 and 5 exhaust valves open? Shouldn't all valves be closed?
Can the oil pump be removed in the vehicle without removing the pan?
Technically yes but getting the front timing cover off without taking off the upper oil pan will be difficult. As will reinstalling it.
Thanks for that info..

And why didn't you put the one lower bolt into the guide and just let it flap about and then you don't need to do 3 things at once
Because I love making things harder for myself. It's one of my greatest personality flaws.
You should put the top guides on first.
Eh, it worked out

No thank you
Just want to point out.. an adjustable wrench and a Cresent wrench is the exact same thing.
Crazy! I always called the classic wrench a crescent wrench and the adjustable "adjustable". My whole life is a life.
Thanks!
Thank YOU! This is amazing. Very generous.
