Its an underrated show. Brilliant writing throughout both seasons. This show helped me believe again. I was an atheist when I started season one and a Christian by season 2. It showed me flaws and strengths in religion. So glad I decided to watch this.
I'm with you man. Watching these two seasons was a genuine spiritual experience for me. And like you i gave myself back to God after denying his existence for so long. (I'm now a practicing Catholic) 2020 i feel was a year for most of us to do a lot of reflecting and soul searching and it paid off beautifully. I've found that peace I've been searching for since I was a teenager in a unlikeliest of places a thanks to these two seasons of this great show.
Kudos to the writers and cast for making both seasons a success and hopefully the final season will be just as good if not better. I especially liked the evolution and transformation of Jude Law's character Lenny. He started as a selfish loner and ended up becoming a selfless leader of the church.
He abdicated, he gave away his heart, no longer under the pretense of doing it for (Christ, the church, honor pr whatever you want to place in the dative) but he loved in Christ as an alter Christus and the love can only mean a passion culminating in death. In fact, he died of love.
This show made my faith um God even stronger I hope that others may start believing in God because of the incredible work this series does. I like Pope Francis but I wish that after him we can have somoene even more graced and that can make us all have a perfect trust in God like Pius did.
But he became a Christ and there is no incarnation of Christ without a cross and death. The crowd surfing with extended arms is a representation of a passion, the emptying of himself till the last beat of his heart, dying out of love
