- Gordano Gorgeous Chorus & Gurt Lush Choir sing Wendy Sergeant's arrangement of Carly Simon's "Let The River Run" as part of the 'Best of the West Concert' at The Colston Hall, Bristol.
Featured in the soundtrack of the 1988 film 'Working Girl'
Simon has stated that she found inspiration for the lyrics by first reading the original script, and then the poems of Walt Whitman. Musically, she wanted to write a hymn to New York with a contemporary jungle beat under it, so as to juxtapose those opposites in a compelling way. The phrases "Silver Cities Rise" and "The New Jerusalem" seem to have taken on a new meaning for many people, but the song was not originally composed with any particular political and/or religious overtones, although you may recognize allusions to William Blake and 19th-century English history.

Let the river run...my heart is aching. From SA! Love to Israel.!
Choirs don't come any better than this. These are unpaid purveyors of such beautiful music and all done purely for pleasure. Thanks to all involved for making this 70 year old man so happy.
The power of collaborative a cappella voices! Wow I luv these performers and the conductor for sharing their gifts!
Totally agreed.
Now we’re in the midst of the COVID 19 pandemic. This is especially uplifting today.
I think the reason this was done do well was because the people who sang it had already LIVED it. They knew that they were singing about, whereas younger groups have not lived it yet
Beautifully done‼️ Very uplifting
This reminds me that, after all this darkness, there will eventually be light.

The Gordano Gorgeous Chorus & Gurt Lush Choir here does a beautifully melodic rendition of "Let The River Run" written by Carly Simon, commissioned by director Mike Nichols, released in 1989 in the music soundtrack to the movie, "Working Girl" (1988). "The Simpsons" cartoon show used it to end the first episode in its 30th season (2019). Carly Simon won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1989. The song also won a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song at the 46th Golden Globe Awards... and a Grammy Award for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television in 1990.

When was this? I love this..
Nothing against the original singer, but this version is much better and more heartwarming because older people are also singing. Well done to the brilliant choir.
Sry all you Males who like this Song.
I got myself always watching her "Cloth".. Nice People / Nice Song
The director couldn't make a better dress
The Von Trapps had many offsprings
There is a river that flows out from the throne of God Almighty Jehovah. I can almost hear this song by Carly Simon being sung by a mighty choir of angels in that magnificent celestial city called Heaven where you and I can spend eternity. "It's asking for the taking!" Jesus saves!
They sadly remind me of the elderly loosing their lives to the pandemic.
