Warrior Cats References in Other Media

- The Warrior Cats books are popular enough that's it's not surprising that we see the books show up from time to time in other media such as TV shows, video games, and other books.
Thank you to Dawnwing for helping with my research for this video: / @dawnwingwc

Garfield is actually a valid Warrior Cats name. A “Gar” is a fish and a “Field” is well…a field.
Oh my god
LMAO!? 😭
*NO*
I’m calling my next warrior cat oc this LMAOOO
WARRIOR LASAGNAS
Warriors getting referenced in random places is definitely awesome and silly goofy
Found
@@JustAGrook Dangit.
goofy 🤪
I’m confused- 💀
So silly goofy
its kinda weird seeing WC getting referenced. I’m just so hyperfixated on the books that I forget its a successful book series that millions of people know
Any dude that I've ever shown them to irl does not know them
@@Twilightwolf34820real
Me too lol
To me I forget that not everyone that read the books are 15 year old girls who got into cringe internet culture
Omg I do this too much
I think the term in pretty little liars was a double reference to Ashfur, and the whole squilf plot. Even down to "A" being stated rather than using "they"
I was about to say, wasn't Ashfur stalking Squirrelflight through Bramblestar's body lol
@@IJustAnimateThatsTheJistyea lol
im unsure honestly it could just simply mean a cat hunting its prey
@@IJustAnimateThatsTheJistyeah in. An arc released over six years after that episode
@@cedarberry__ yeahhhh I was gonna say that arc is probably newer than that hfcgfhvg lol
World of Warcraft loves referencing everything,if its a book, movie or game its probably referenced somewhere in WoW. Also in Baulder's Gate 3 you can find a cat named Steelclaw, if you have talk to animals you can lisen to Steelclaw and that cat talks quite differently to the other cats in game. Steelclaw's speech patterns and terms are similar to what you would find in Warrior Cats.
It could also be a reference to tailchaser’s song. What phrases does it use?
@@zixea3318 I'd have to look at her dialogue list again but that cat has a ego about her fighting prowess
Interesting 🤔
The Garfield one clearly had effort put into it. The artist made garfield versions of the clan emblems, which would have required more attention than just looking at the cover image for book 1 haha
Huh not many people talk about Warrior cats outside of the animal community. So I’m surprised it got this many references in media.
Of course 99% of warrior cats fans became furries-including me
Not really there’s over 30 million fans last I checked (2020) some are furrys some aren’t some are animators some are editors warriors has a lot of fans but yes there is a good amount that are furries
Not all warriors fans are furries 🙄
@@Lion_Thunder My bad. 😅

as a kid i would have been so amazed that this obscure book series i loved would be referenced in stuff like huge movies and disney channel cartoons
To be fair it’s not really obscure, but it’s rarely referenced due to adults not caring about it.
@@echolocation1it felt very obscure growing up because i had never met someone who even knew about the series' existence
@@prageruwu69 that’s interesting, I know many people that have at least heard of it. I guess it depends on your area
Its really not obscure, i remember seeing the books everywhere in bookstores as a kid before i even knew what they were, i thought they were adult books 😂 the covers in germany are more 'serious' looking than the originals
@@scribblecloud depends on where you live
I love when warriors is referenced elsewhere because it makes the books feel more real and like a lot of people read them, which they did.
It’s crazy that most millennials were in elementary school when the series first took off
Don't worry, when we find one of these, the entire Warrior Cats Twitter community won't keep quiet about it. I think we're starved.
I think the "hunting you down like a warrior cat" reference and the fact it's a stalker could refer to Squilf and Ashfur's relationship because Ashfur was kind of like a jealous stalker
and he stalked her through bramblestar's body in arc 6, but that came out after the show did
To be perfectly honest, I think the Erins did Ashfur dirty
as a fan of both series, I'd like to believe the warriors reference in hiveswap goes a little deeper than just a joke about fandoms (not that it isn't that too), Wanshi is a jadeblood, and to avoid boring non-homestucks with bloated worldbuilding, that basically means she's been restricted to a life of near-total isolation and completely cut off from the world beyond a small series of underground caverns, only allowed to interact with a total of 3 other people while being trained in a thankless job she'll be forced to do her entire life, you meet her when she decided to sneak out to go to a convention, I personally think that aside from taking playful jabs at fandom culture, the warriors references are there to emphasize her dissatisfaction with her life, she's an 8 year old girl reading books about escaping a suffocating existence and living in the wild with your community, something she's been denied due to the society she lives in, her whole route is about realizing how messed up her planet is while also finding small bits of comfort through you and the other jadebloods, a kind of hopeful nihilism, people don't really pay a lot of attention to Wanshi or her route but I think it's one of the better written ones in the entire game and gives a lot of good insight into what it's growing up on Alternia
as a homestuck and wc fan I agree with this statement
@@benjamindeezI also agree with this (also a homestuck and a warrior cats fan)
brick from the middle canonically being a warrior cats kid is so insane to me specifically (yeah it was probably just a prop book but still)
always related to him as a kid and now i have even more reason to
Brick was a nerdy kid really into fantasy and ‘weird’ books from what I remember so honestly him being a warrior cats kid makes sooo much sense bxjdjdksk
Brick is also an BloodClan cat...
@@TANGL3_BURROMG IT ISSSS!
Of note for the Garfield one, it's actually specifically a reference to one of the UK covers! That one has the symbols around the center picture and the tagline "Four Clans. One Destiny."
I've been tempted to play WoW too just to see the Warriors references. 😆
can confirm
Is WoW free? Cause I will totally play it just to see the refrences
@@Dorpoforp I've looked into it a bit, apparently the free part is only up to lv 20 and has limited features. You have to subscribe for $15/month for the rest, and expansions like the one the Warriors references are in are another $50ish.
@Dawnwing oof, that sucks, thanks for letting me know!
DawnwingWC*
I remember the day the Garfield social team posted that. I went ECSTATIC over it. I even love that they used the official clan icons with Garfield shaped heads instead of the square ones
4:15 could have also been a reference to Tigerclaw from 2012’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He was quite literally a tiger mutant from the upper ranks of the Foot Clan. Just naming another Tigerclaw I know of.
I was thinking of that one!
WoW has a few others in addition to the actual cats in Dragonflight. These are not necessarily references since it's just names, but seeing as there's a handful of them that just happens to share names I suspect someone on the team knew: Oakheart is a boss in the dungeon Darkheart Thicket from Legion. Cloudtail is a "rare" mob in Bastion from Shadowlands (when he dies he drops Cloudtail's Paw which, as a diehard Cloudtail fan I am not sure what to feel), Bramble Claw is the name of a spell used by some dryad generic mobs in Torghast.
These aren't necessarily intended as references (Oakheart in particular I don't believe was, since that boss is basically a living tree), but I find it interesting that they just so happen to name certain things after canon Warriors characters (and WoW has been known to casually using names as references, so it is not impossible they were intentional).
There's a mobile game I used to play a lot that had a character named Oakheart and me and my friend who were both huge warriors fans at the time went INSANE over that, but in the end I summed it up to a coincidence. Now I'm not so sure
Oakheart is generic enough to be a coincidence but Cloudtail and Brambleclaw are defenitrly too niche to pass it off as nothing
@@billcipher8645 Yea, the thing about Cloudtail is that he is in a heaven themed zone, so it is possible he's an accident too. But I am going to chose to believe it is intentional since that is much more fun.
“Warriors Never had stalkers”
Ashfur: oh okay 😅
fr lol
“HUNRGY CATS: INTO THE SAUCE”
“Feed the warrior inside you”
Garfieldstar confirmed??
7:37
Timestamp for this btw
Garfieldstar is real. Always has been
This is even better if you consider Garfield actually could be a warriors name. Gar as in the species of fish, and then field.
I think it would be funny if they called him lasagne star though.
Mondaysarebadstar
@@applesplashwarriorcats8339 i rlly want this warrior name in the actual series now lmao
Wanshi isn't the only one who's into Soldier Purrbeasts, either!! Nepeta, one of the main Trolls from Homestuck, is also heavily obsessed with the series and makes a few references to it in the series! But I entirely forgot that Wanshi was heavy into Soldier Purrbeasts as well, so now I absolutely have got to play through Hiveswap: Friendsim again.
Thank you! I was looking 4 someone to point out Nepeta's existence
@@I_SWEAR_IM_NOT_LYING I was literally watching this hoping for a Homestuck reference, and got so confused when Akira skipped 2009 and the astonishing creation that was Homestuck as the primary example of Warriors in popular media
@@marvusjolly9193 When I read Nepeta's introduction it was hard to believe Hussie himself wasn't in the fandom
Warriors was referenced in the fiction podcast Camp Here & There episode 18, while the protagonist Sydney is recounting how he and his childhood friend took care of their pet rock when they were younger "We taught him how to read from our favorite books - my wildcat soap operas and Jedidiah’s pulp sci-fi novels."
Oh my god… I’m a will wood fan and a warriorcats fan and will wood made the music for ch&t so this means that that podcast has a will wood reference and a warriorcats reference I’m going insane

@@ahorridlittlebeastie8786 I am aware, I stalk the discord!! It is cool to see another CHNT fan in the wild
I think the inclusion of Eclipse and Long Shadows in SVU is a very cool coincidence, especially Long Shadows which contains the infamous fire scene and the crisis surrounding Squirrelflight and The Three (The books appear when Olivia Benson adopted her son Noah)
Its also really funny to headcanon that tough as nails iron maiden Captain Benson reads silly kids books about cats fighting
4:50
The heccin' whiplash I got when Akira casually mentioned Homestuck. This webcomic never lets go, even if you aren't into it anymore you'll still react when it's mentioned... How haunting
I honestly never thought Warriors would be referenced in anything. It's one of those things that's popular online but just niche enough irl.
Warrior cats used to be pretty popular
@@musicplaylists6718 I know, I grew up reading the books and doing WC roleplay. But Homestuck used to be popular too but it's still niche. They're both things I'm surprised to see referenced in anything.

Warrior cats is notorious asf for being cringe. I mean, it is, but it’s hard not to like it once you actually read it. Like- these cats have no business being this well written 😭
I vividly remember just beginning to read Warriors when I saw a gameplay of that Hiveswap chapter. It really blew my mind
Wow, as someone who's played WoW for years,, including Dragonflight, I must have been unlucky not to notice them! I definitely need to go back there and look for them!
I think the “hunting you down like a warrior cat” is a reference to Fireheart and Tigerclaw’s relationship while Tigerclaw was still in Thunderclan, since Fireheart, in a way, was hunting the truth.
To those saying it’s about Ashfur, that plot is too new for it to be referenced in that episode. The broken code is only a few years old. No I think they were referring to arc 1 with that quote
My favorite is in the Coraline graphic novel where she has Into the Wild
That pretty little liars scene is so bizarre, i think i love it
“Feed the warrior inside you” is by far my favorite
James from TheOdd1sOut has actually mentioned Warriors 2 times. He recently put an animation of Scourge, Firestar and Tigerstar in a video and he also actually said ''Warrior Cats'' so he knows what he showed, and there also was a time before that when he drew Into the Wild.
WHERE
@@ThumpmallowThe animation of Firestar, Tigerstar and Scourge is in the video he talks abt different kinds of animations. But the first time I think was when he talked abt audio books but I'm not sure.
7:00 it's really funny to me that there's like six copies of dawn
there's also like, 5 copies of starlight, and two each of firestar's quest and skyclan's destiny. that artist is a skyclan and crowpool main.
In Battle Kitty on netflix, theres a scene where Kitty exclaims while training that "A warrior never rests!" and then some bully characters come up and say "Ha! 'Warrior'? Who's ever heard of a warrior cat?" which i think is a pretty direct one too fjdjfnjffndj. Other than that i think you got all the ones im aware of!
I did see Jaiden Animations drop a warriors reference in her video titled Why she Doesn’t like reading, and also I think the odd1sout snuck in a reference in his conspiracy theory video
QSMP Jaiden enjoyer here, that's correct
8:06 Did anyone else notice the edges of the Garfield frame is the four clans in the books (prior to Firestars Quest)? Idk if it can get any more obvious. I had also noticed the one in The Ghost and Molly McGee which is the whole reason i clicked on this
super interesting video! i was expecting relatively small pieces of media but i actually recognized all of them except the disney cartoon and just had no idea they referenced warriors! the only one of these i already knew about was the world of warcraft one
In cats and soup, there are sets of cats that you can collect. One of these sets is called "blackstar's three musketeers"
Idk if its a reference to warriors or something else, and I forgot the cats in the set lol
Honestly I love warriors, it’s awesome! Just like you’re channel!

I’m surprised about this honestly. A book reference in a book? Wow.
I noticed Into The Wild in the Coraline graphic novel. Last year we had to read Coraline and i finished early so i was reading Warriors, our substitute teacher who we had that day came over to me and was like "the book you're reading is in here!" it was so sweet
Edit: nevermind they mentioned it anyway lol
Tigerclaw is also a villian in TMNT 2012, so the we bare bears reference might have been that
7:52 you can see the clan logos on the corners
THATS SO SIIIIIIICK OMG
When my sister was younger she found out about Warrior Cats because of the roleplaying side of World of Warcraft. She even tried to read Warrior Cats so she could join them but wasn't able to get into it. My guess for the reason Warrior Cats is referenced in WoW is because of the notable community of warrior cat roleplayers on WoW.
Ty for featuring the hiveswap friend-sim reference!! Seeing my two favorite fandoms in a bright gaurdian akira video made me so happy i got into warriors at 10 and then homestuck a few months ago and I've watched bright gaurdian akira since i was 10 its like my lifes gone full circle. I can die happy now. Everything is a homestuck reference. Homestuck made a warriors reference. Well Nepeta is kind of a living warriors reference she like actually made me gasp when she was introduced and she roleplays like a warriors roleplayer so accurately i think Andrew hussie might have actually read a warriors book for that
Surprised its around so much. I’ve seen some before and its always a nice surprise but I didn’t know there was this many. Awesomeness video Akira!
There's literally no way Aria mentions warrior cats, I've watched the series many times and I've never caught her saying that 😭 but it's cool that a lot of different things reference warriors as the series is popular and I'd never expect so many books are in different movies and things
This was such a fun video to watch, it’s just so cool other series’s referenced one of my favourites lol.
As someone with a hyperfixation on both wow and warrior cats, I’m shocked that I didn’t know about this
I've been waiting for this video for a very long time🙏
im gonna be real, seeing warrior cats and mystic messenger in the same video, much more the same universe, gave me enough whiplash to scream
but hey, they both gave me irreversible psychological damage, so its perfect
This episode was so cool. I think you should do an episode of references to other media in warriors (e.g. the characters Bug and Bunny) although it may be a much shorter list.
I did not expect homestuck in this pleas I’m crying
7:16 I stared for, like, a second and then burned out laughing,
I love finding yellowfang, silverstream, talltail, tigerclaw and fireheart and cloudtail in world of warcraft :)
Fantastic idea for a video! I can't believe they put a Warriors ref in PLL dialogue, haha.
Wow, I never realized Warrior cats were referenced in other media, awesome!
As a homestuck and warrior cats fan, I was genuinely surprised to find a book series "Murrbeast Soldiers" (WC reference) in one of HS novellas. Moreover, it played a part in a story of a ch's root. It was rather neat.
Wow I haven't seen you in years nice to see you still going
I just realized
Garfield looks almost exactly like Firestar
thats so cool aa !! watching bright guardian akira's giving me nostalgia from when i used to watch her like 5yr ago :3
I feel like Yoosung would be the type to read warrior cats
haven't played mystic messenger in years, since it broke my sleep schedule, but glad to see the fandom is still seen as big enough to be notable
4:32
As for this one, it could also be a Ninja Turtle reference. The tiger villain that allies Shredder is named Tigerclaw, and yes, he is evil, too :)
However, far cooler if it's a warrior cat reference!
I don't know whether this is a reference or not but in toca life the haunted house has a cat that looks like scourge (it's a black cat with scars and a purple spike collar)
*GASP* I love scourge
the mystic messenger one caught me soooo off guard. i absolutely loved that game and still do LMAOOOO
0:37 I actually have one of the mangas used from a movie (?) set! I don’t remember which movie it was, but there was a huge sale for the things used on set and I found one of the books :)
This will be interesting my favorite one was probably the we bear bears one with tigerclaw
Eeee this looks amazing dude
There is a Warrior Cats reference somewhere in the game Monster Roadtrip (the third game in the monster prom series) I believe it took place somewhere in a museum. Basically the character you play as draws a picture of your Warriors OC.
the garfeild one has on the box enclosing him shows all the different symbols for the different clans.
why am i early- but i love that other media is refencing warriors! i love your vids!
I just looked, and I started watching this 2 minutes after the video was released.
In the mystic messenger one you can see a bravelands book too :o
i remembered the hiveswap warriors mention and i freaked … my two fave media pieces IN ONE???? omg
in the garfeild I noticed the border for the pic, where firepaw ( or rusty ) was, there are clan symbols on each corner
Ofc warrior cats is in other media, it’s that good
Hilarious that it’s referenced in other completely random, unrelated move/books 😂
wowza! I Never knew this haha- and OF COURSE ITS IN DIFFERENT SHOWS!
funny thing, in the morning I saw this video and I thought that I’d watch it later, then I found out the lion mayor in zootopia, is called Lionheart, the day I decided to watch this 😭
7:59 in the corners of the middle picture are illustrations of the Clan templates
Omg that's amazing! I haven't gotten to play WoW since Dragonflight came out so I had no idea there was a Warriors reference in there, but that makes me unbelievably happy. World of Warcraft was my childhood, the game that got me into gaming, the fact that it now has not one but multiple Warrior Cats is just. It's amazing.
1:55 I remember seeing this when reading the book lol, I was so happy
Well done! Right after my soccer game!
As a World of Warcraft player, I’m generally surprised that they referenced warrior cats ingame, as it a kid/teen book and Warcraft has mostly adults playing it.
As a fan of both warriors and world of warcraft, I discovered the Silverstream reference in a top 10 video that one of my favorite wow content creators made and I was like "OMG ITS SILVERSTREAM!!" it was so interesting!! :D
@bright Guardian Akira. IT's really funny because in the Ohn'aran plains zone the centaur call you two-feet (since all player characters have two feet) and I can't help but think that's ALSO a reference to twolegs someone snuck into their dialogue usage.
This is extremely surprising when you were talking about SilverStream in that one game you actually brought up my birthday😂😂
7:00 yo if you didn’t notice on like the 3rd most visible shelf on the far right hand side theres a Bravelands book (shelf above both warrior cats ones )
In the show house broken there is a ginger tabby cat with a blue collar and a star shaped tag that shows up as a background character several times through the series. I think that show has other warrior cat references too.
As a fellow world of warcraft enjoyer/player, it's nice to see a fellow warrior cat reference in the game
Warrior cats just slays 🙃
On page 35 of Hunger, book 2 of Michael Grant's Gone series, one of the characters is mentioned as reading notes from a Warriors notebook.
The book was published in 2009 so it'd be the second oldest reference here.
HOW DID I NOT KNOW MYSTIC MESSENGER HAD A WARRIORS REFERENCE
6:17 I totally forgot about this one! This was legitimately so crazy
the we bare bear ones shocked me back then because i was all like: THERE IS NO WAY.........
fr i was just watching it on tv and i literally made the shocked patrick face
I noticed that one We bare bears episode that it had Tigerclaw in it. Also in Mystic messenger, I also spotted another actual book besides the WC ones. It’s called “Fish in a tree”.
*Points* 9:10 That's me! I screenshotted those! (KiromaDraws) LOL I was on a wild goose chase trying to find Talltail!! He was a hard one.
What's also really funny is Tigerclaw(star) is positioned in the "bad guys" area of the Ohn'ahran Plains. Petting any of the cats (except for Yellowfang) causes them to attack you... Guess they don't like twolegs.
The centaurs also refer to you as a two-foot. Hmm.. (especially the one leading some of the hunting events lol)
I will say the NPC models are re-used from other pets/cat NPCs as well, so I think they just picked out which ones were easiest to put in and name similar to the cats from the books.
As a World of Warcraft player and an Warrior Cats fan, I'm leveling up my night elf druid so i can meet these cats in Ohn'aran Plains. Also, in Ashenvale while questing, if you accept a quest that includes playing dead, the dryad who has that quest says 'Bramblepaw' while talking to the player.
Edit: Also, another thing in Ohn'aran Plains, the centaurs have clans, and they refer players as 'twofeet'.
Edit 2: In the quest 'Mistress of the Claw' it tells you to speak to Lea Stonepaw, like Stonefur's apprentice name.
Edit 3: By the way, another thing about the Ohn'aran Plains centaur, they go to clan gatherings. Also, in one of the dungeons in Legion, theres an boss named Oakheart. And also, I found Yellowfang, Tigerclaw, Talltail, and Silverstream in Ohn'aran Plains, but i can't find Fireheart, i think Fireheart is merged with the Teerai fisher near Yellowfang..
Edit 4: Two more things, one of the druid bear forms is called Stonepaw, also I realized night elf last names are kinda like clan names.
Grizz: How about Tigerclaw?
Panda: Hmm... sounds a bit too evil.
Me: YOU ARE RIGHT!
Me personally, I LOVE we bear bears and seeing that reference I'm joyous.
As a true warriors fan, who is working on warriors art work rn, this brought a true tear of proudness to my eye
JoJo is like Warrior Cats?
