  • This is a 1436 Alumacraft riveted aluminum jon boat that needs the transom stripped, rebuilt, and reinforced. This is the first video on this subject for the JTgatoring UA-cam channel. We'll go through start to finish on this project about what was needed and what was done.
Stats - 1436 LT Alumacraft jon boat, 13hp longtail mud motor with a total floating weight of 600 pounds on most days
Goal: strip the old wood out of the transom, try not to make any new holes in the hull; put thicker, stronger wood in the transom; use epoxy to seal the wood; use paint to protect the epoxy from the sunlight; secure the new wood to the transom with stainless hardware and use 5200 to help seal; use two different types of rivets to seal holes in the floor from removing old transom support and see which one holds up better over time.
