  • In this video I'll be carving a miniature brook trout. Although it took me far less hours to complete than my normal projects it still took around 50 hours over a 10 day period but I decided to edit the video for a one part series. I plan on doing several more miniatures in the near future so I basically started this one for a practice round.
I wasnt real happy with the final paint job and plan on repainting it.
If you have any questions feel free to drop me an email or leave them in the comment section. I hope you enjoyed this project.
Im planning to start a 17 inch rainbow trout project soon.
I'm happy to announce my new affiliation with Bear Woods Supply. Check them out here: bearwood.com/ for your carving tool needs. Use "Danny" for the promo code and receive 5% off any purchase.

Thanks for making this video and showing us how you make and paint a brook trout.

You’re welcome. I’ll be starting a life size rainbow trout in a couple weeks. I have some not so glamorous habitat bases to make in the meantime. But it’s part of it😜

This carving turned out absolutely beautiful! Great technique with the scale tips early on and covering that detail with the green wash. It gives a nice sense of depth. Nice work as always!

Thanks, I wasn’t real happy with the vermiculation and spots. I think they were too big in relation to the body size so I am going to repaint it. 😝

Wow! This needs more attention, your work is very clean and nice looking. Brookies are my favorite trout to catch just for the colors, appreciate the video!

May I ask what type of wood you use. Is that basswood?

      Thank you!
I use a Foredom SR and just recently bought a Marathon high speed rotary tool for fine detail work.
I use Kutzall burrs and I have various brands of diamond bits of all shapes and sizes.
I have a video on the tools I use most if you’d like to watch. Here’s the link.

Use my name Danny in the promo code and get 5% off any purchase. I also get a little kick back that I just end up using to buy more supplies.
They are a Canadian Company so if you’re in the U.S. they do not charge taxes so that’s kinda like a savings in itself 😜
