When addressing the public on release of the video, the Fairfax Co sheriff did a great job of detailing the situation including explaining how Fairfax trains their personnel & the protocols involved. Much credit to him for doing that. Lots of lose ends for the responding officer which he’ll work through & not allow to happen again. As you said ‘suicide by cop’. A very sad outcome for all involved. Really appreciate your YT presentation. Keep up the good work & look forward to your next!
The officer was called on a mental health well check. Not just checking that she is alive. But if she is a threat to herself or someone else. That is what a mental health well check. So when she slammed the door, he doesn't know that she was a threat to herself or someone else because he was not able to speak with the woman. If you just turn around and leave just because she opened the door for 15 sec. and she harms herself or someone else, then you are liable. Also, she did injure the officer. Hence the blood coming from his head.
Yeah, these presentors lost me in that regard. They say just leave after clearly seeing her distress and slamming the door. That's not how wellness check is done. The office made contact but she refused to communicate with him. That's the things now a days someone will make a comment on failure of the cop and hold him accountable if he just left without making sure she was not a threat to herself or others. They're not realising that fact.
😢 my late husband was a Lt. He was in a shooting in his first few years of his career. Geez, I think all he had during those days were hand cuffs, fire arm, flashlight & a night stick. No battle gear like today. He had to shoot a man that came out of a house with a long gun aimed right at him. His chief chewed him out for telling the man 3x’s to drop his weapon, instead of shooting him immediately. Till the day he died, he spoke of that man & felt guilty. 32 yrs & he’d done a hell of a job. Best cop I ever knew. He had the gift of gab, was in every line of police work you could think of. Jay Leno actually spoke of him, made a good joke. We were split at the time….he busted a massage parlor in his city 😮😅 I pray for LEO’S nighty. Plz stay safe ❣️

Our county is 614 sq miles and it's rough sometimes.
I feel like guys are overthinking it. How is a person suppose to think a lady in bathrobes would come out swinging? Was the cop suppose to treat her as a criminal from the get go?
For everyone commenting that this person is not a woman. Sydney Wilson was actually a W.N.B.A (Womens National Basketball Association) player and it’s very common especially in this sport to have players with a dark skinned complexion to be this tall. I’m a former womens basketball player and I have seen and played both against and with teammates who are both darker skinned as well as light skinned complexion and I personally am 6ft tall. I’m not trying to start a debate regarding this issue or trying to be condescending, I’m simply just clarifying the fact that yes some women can be and are this tall due to the genetics of their heritage. But in saying that, as a woman who comes from both a light and a dark skinned complexion family, I personally take offence to these kind of remarks as it tends to show a lack of education when it comes to the genetically different societies in the world. Just my thoughts though 🤔🤷🏽♀️
People saying it's a trans woman are annoying me. Some of us are just genetic freaks of nature and that's okay. I'm sorry, ANY woman that hits 6'6", black or white, is a genetic freak of nature. If you heard my voice on the phone, when I'm not purposely pitching up, you'd think I was a guy. Genetic freak of nature. It's okay. I'm okay with it. What I'm not okay with was being a lower end mezzo when I was younger, and a contralto now, and I don't get to sing the pretty parts in Ave Maria.
Your comments about skin color aren't necessary... A lot of Caucasian females especially in basketball 🏀 tall , as tall or taller. It wasn't necessary for the race of the woman to come into the conversation. Just saying 😜.
Most agencies have MDTs in their vehicles which allow an officer to do a call history and a name history. Doing that could give an officer information of what they are responding to. Have as much information as you can get, before making contact. Also, and you covered it, always give yourself an avenue of retreat.
Only training idea I have is radio based. I’m the military when talking over radio while we don’t have 10 codes we de have a basic list of everything you need to do/pass up in a major situation (most are an acronym) so my brain go to an imitation after OIS or when they put the traffic out teach the new guys Shots fired, threat condition (on the move, injured and moving, injured but down, dead), Officer condition (injured, uninjured, etc.,), Public “Safety” (is anyone else around you not involved but injured or not). Or in short S.T.O.P.S.

@rxstarryan.9179 There are plenty of them. We were told they would be better and that the police can be defunded. Now the city probably just lost another officer.
this is the second video in a week where an officer standing near the door got stabbed a previous one I think was on police activity channel on UA-cam a female officer was stabbed in the neck. I I don't know the tactical training that police officers get but it seems to me from those two videos that once you knock on the door standing 10 ft back would give you an opportunity to see what's in their hands if they do decide to charge out the door. and I do know that one of the tactical things to do with an edge weapon is to put space so I think once you knock on the door you back up 10 ft or more cuz you don't lose anything by giving yourself distance.
Unfortunately the training isn't standardized across the nation. In CA we have a statewide POST program which offers every law enforcement officer the exact same training which addresses this exact situation and not standing in doorways and close to the door. Other states just don't have that same level of training, and it varies county to county. It would seem to be common knowledge but it just isn't.
Man, What a horrible situation to be in as a cop. 😬 he ultimately handled it well but he damn sure waited too long and he is lucky she didn’t advance towards him even with the two shots and stab and kill him.. and I also noticed the very odd dispatch of his location when they should have known that already. I’m sure there’s a reason but it made my weird alarm go off for sure
On our team, “shots fired” means you’re being shot at. Our patrol doesn’t use that, but instead uses “shots fired” for either side. I really think developing a way to quickly explain whether you either shot or were shot at is very important for responding officers. Not that I’m not going mach 10 either way, but it helps to know what to expect.
I mean would it be practical to say “shots fired suspect down” or “shots fired officer in distress” something like that? When putting out a shots fired call aren’t officers supposed to give out as much information as possible as quickly as possible?
in as little words as possible, I think it would be beneficial to teach them to use a call out that mirrors "Taser Deployed", as in, when they are required to use their sidearm and discharge it to end a threat, the call out should be "Lethal Deployed". 2 words, limited syllables, and would be just as easy to instruct and instill as it would be to do so for the use of non-lethal options.
If it was just regular check for well-being call, then I would have left. I think the officer tried his best to deescalate but waited way.. way... too long. We practice for active shooter situation yet we really do not train for situation like these.
@willman9567 Sydney Wilson (the lady in this video) was a W.N.B.A (Womens National Basketball Association) player. It is actually quite common in this sport in particular to have extremely tall “dark skinned complexion” women (not being racist, just used this description to cover all nationalities that have this complexion) on the teams. I hope my comment helps you understand her appearance a little better but please don’t take it the wrong way or feel like I’m having a dig at you as that is not my intention whatsoever.
I'm trying to dig deeper into this rabbit hole. I want to know who called the cops. It just said a mental health professional, which sydney wilson was apparently. Did she call them herself?
After they answer and then shut the door, I'd call for backup before knocking again thats dangerous with mental health issues they close that door, and they dont wanna be bothered, so it aggrevates the situation truly.
Yea in this case definitely a fire arm. She literally slashed him in the face , so she had a deadly weapon. Now if she had come out just swinging her fist that would be different. But if they have a weapon that puts his life at risk ,so if she's willing to put him and risk she's putting herself at risk

With 14 years’ experience, I’d say he knew he had every right to shoot her before she got that close, but some communities and DA’s are playing fast and loose with officer rights in deadly force situations. He allowed her to get too close because he was more afraid of the backlash from shooting a protected class, mental health, female patient (in that order of concern) than he was for his own safety. He let her enter into a headshot situation, but he passed that up, too.
Most cops dontblike it when a oerson slams or shut the door and want assert their power and authority to compel compliance. Had he left, after she closed the door this wouldn't be newsworthy at all of course... He continued to knock to put his foot in the door the next time she opened it. Like most cops do and force a conversation allegingbthey are investigating...
I have several CJ degrees most professors being FBI, TBI, homeland, THP, and local LE but I do delivery’s which are dangerous situations and I never stand in front of a door….always afraid someone will open and drag me inside. Was this really a woman or a guy dressed as a female? Not many 6’5 women out there.
The type of training cops in CA get for this type of situation never reflects actual situations. Part of training needs to be going to actual calls. Also training needs to be taken every few years. Because as you can see in the video - all the training in the world won't prepare you for everything.
10:50 More cops need to get this point. It's not a police officer's job to force themselves into a situation that's not a police matter. If there's no crime, it's not their job to come up with one to justify intervention and it's damn sure not their job to agitate someone til they lose it and want to commit a crime.
Well this isn't the issue here. The police officer was called for a wellness check. He wasn't there for a picnicking expedition. He will have to talk to her in order to make sure she responds in a way which will give the officer an idea of her mental state.
Very interesting video. They made some great points as far as the lack of de-escalation of this particular situation. There are many directions this could have gone without any violence or in the very least violence as the extreme last resort. There is a lot of training needed in cases like this one. The end result from the officer's stand point is understandable, but there were many stages that could have been done to avoid this outcome.
Are cops required to go to every welfare check that's requested? I don't understand why the police have to respond to a report of "agitation." I thought welfare checks were usually conducted when the concern is caused by being unable to get a hold of someone for a period of time.
Honest question. Was it enough to see a person and leave? Did the cop know that she was the person he needed to check on? What are the requirements to resolve a wellness check? Surely seeing a human that isn't dead the minimum requirement? Surely you have to attempt least get a small conversation with them? But I don't know for sure. If he left, would she have killed herself another way? Would the social worker have shown up and been killed?
I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post what I’m about to and I completely understand if this comment is deleted. But I hope if it is deleted I am not blocked or banned from viewing/commenting on future videos from this channel as I along with many other viewers appreciate the content that this channel provides along with the honest opinions of both hosts which I feel gives the public a better understanding of what each video actually is about due to the full non bias transparency 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽 However this is the full bodycam footage of this incident that was released by the Fairfax Police Department themselves. It is on their UA-cam channel if anyone would like to see the entire encounter if they haven’t already. I completely understand why the officer waited as long as he did. No one wants to be unjustly charged because of the description of the subject.
Personally wouldn’t go to call involving a subject experiencing a mental health crisis solo. Officer waited a long time to fire in my opinion. Wish you guys gave your opinion on the Officers who responded to assist the primary officer, they were absolutely worthless.
Please can you cover the police shooting of Chris Kaba in the UK? A firearms officer was put on trial for murder and was found not guilty within only 3 hours. A lot of people, myself included, think it should have never gone to trial. It’d be really interesting to hear the perspective of police officers from across the pond, plus it might be interesting for you to cover a case from the UK. Here’s a news report on it to give you a bit of background: ua-cam.com/video/R1O7haOoxDo/v-deo.htmlsi=v_STtOGJjbBUGNh5
What everyone is missing is the BWC is a fisheye lens which does not display distance accurately. The difference of the camera and reality is considerable. Love the Monday morning QB about everything he “shoulda” done differently. BS. 10-15’ back? Seriously? Bottom line here is LE should NOT be tasked with this type of call. Full stop. Love how when people call the crisis line, the crisis line calls the cops…just no.
Holy moly what this person came out swinging a knife what the heck is going on with our society today ! Omg I would expect that they would be high drugs !
Client doctor privilege is void when a person is a danger to themselves or other's. Also, having enough information to make a welfare check call means the doctor is obligated to provide appropriate reason for the call. Wait a second. The woman answers the door calmly, won't talk to the officer, tries to murder the officer but your advice as police would be to leave her alone? She would have killed someone if police did what you suggest. So maybe learn from your mistakes in these videos too. Every reason you would leave a potential murderer is every reason to stay and resolve the issue. My final point on this. If it takes mental health professionals and crisis intervention police officers to calm this woman down and prevent this situation in your opinion, what is the average citizen and or family going to know about that? This woman had access to people when homicidal and you want everybody to leave her alone. You said he should leave because she's acting abnormally, that's why police shouldn't leave. To protect the rest of us...
You can clearly hear her call out....Obeah. An evil demon of possession from Jamaican lore. Also when she expires off camera you can hear two voices come out of her in stereo.. It is very creepy. But you must find the original uncorrupted video.
Excellent videos guys, but the elephant in the room...her voice change and speech patterns were "inhuman", the whole ordeal has the air of demonic possession about it.
deadly threat is followed with deadly force but when he had the distance out of striking range any officer should have tased her if he hadnt already shot and had some distance he was in shock his reaction time was slow to even let her get that close again
Tasers are not always effective. The suspect can rush 21 feet before the officer can react and pull the trigger. Can’t really twist what went down…officer is fully justified here
@@aliamro1525Bro I'm not a cop but I been in armed security and private investigation for years I use all the same shit they use and have been in situations worse then this if he didn't freeze up it would have been effective enough he was slow on his toes
@@aliamro1525 we took the same knife test training in the video it shows the closing distance if you have a knife vs a gun he froze up a non lethal could have prevented that
@@Focalcaribou I mean I agree that he froze up that is a problem but there are so many instances where an officer deployed a taser in a scenario similar to this one and it was not useful. In a tight confined space like this a unsuccessful deployment of a taser means life or death for the officer. You can look up unsuccessful taser deployments on UA-cam
You knock on the door and then step back and away. Keeping your distance is important. Its less threatening for the occupants and distance gives you time.
I'm surprised the officer (after 3 minutes of constant harrasing a mental instable person) didn't have the precaution of having with him non lethal deterrance methods such a taser. Or try to shoot to a not to kill. Poor choices and reacting by this police officer.
Horrible tactics and decision making by this officer. Almost got him killed. Knock on the door and walk away to a position of cover/concealment. Would have prevented this from happening more than likely. And once she sliced him up, she gets no warnings. I’m not running down the hall while she chases me with a knife. She’s getting shot right away.
And from where he should have gotten the info she is going to snap? Most people when they smile at you are not considered a threat, She told him two words and was in bathrobes. What info could he have gotten from that?
Question 💡? How do you think the initial call was handled? Would you have done anything different? Drop a comment and let us know ⬇️.
The officer is lucky that the bodycam was there. Otherwise HE would be the villain and this would be national news.
And BLM would riot and loot.

So what should have been done then according to you?
Well this isn't the issue here. The police officer was called for a wellness check. He wasn't there for a picnicking expedition. He will have to talk to her in order to make sure she responds in a way which will give the officer an idea of her mental state.
And if the threat is all hopped up on meth and other drugs... they are not going to stop right away
Oh yeah just leave after she opens and closes the door.... she's doing well?
Very interesting video. They made some great points as far as the lack of de-escalation of this particular situation. There are many directions this could have gone without any violence or in the very least violence as the extreme last resort. There is a lot of training needed in cases like this one. The end result from the officer's stand point is understandable, but there were many stages that could have been done to avoid this outcome.
@shotsfiredpodcast how would you approach a call like this at a house with large windows next to the door? Would you still step away??
The officer had no choice.
Not the sheriffs dept it’s Fairfax county police department
Some people just shouldn't be cops. Infact most cops shouldn't be cops.
I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post what I’m about to and I completely understand if this comment is deleted. But I hope if it is deleted I am not blocked or banned from viewing/commenting on future videos from this channel as I along with many other viewers appreciate the content that this channel provides along with the honest opinions of both hosts which I feel gives the public a better understanding of what each video actually is about due to the full non bias transparency 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
However this is the full bodycam footage of this incident that was released by the Fairfax Police Department themselves. It is on their UA-cam channel if anyone would like to see the entire encounter if they haven’t already. So I hope my comment is allowed to remain in the comments section, just so those people who are trying to comprehend the situation can have a full understanding of the entire situation.

😂 your comments are worthless. This doesn't help anyone to type nonsense on youtube.
Here’s a news report on it to give you a bit of background:

What everyone is missing is the BWC is a fisheye lens which does not display distance accurately. The difference of the camera and reality is considerable. Love the Monday morning QB about everything he “shoulda” done differently. BS. 10-15’ back? Seriously? Bottom line here is LE should NOT be tasked with this type of call. Full stop. Love how when people call the crisis line, the crisis line calls the cops…just no.
Holy moly what this person came out swinging a knife what the heck is going on with our society today ! Omg I would expect that they would be high drugs !
Why does Sydney have a man’s voice ?
Rare incident where it’s not the cops fault.
More like extremely common incident.
Why are ya’ll not wearing ceramic plates?
that dudes beard is wild
This was a terrible situation. The officer was trapped with no options.
Safelife defense soft armor stops knives... police armor should be better especially in 2024
Huh? Make that make sense please.. he was stabbed in the head.
His vest is slash proof also. He was cut on the head/face.
I dont think thats a girl
How is someone supppsed to knock on a door from 15 feet away???? sMaRt
I think what if he left n a citizen or random neighbor knocked n was killed I think loud music was just cause to stay
Going to a call with a partner? Dang must be nice
sha naynays gone cray cray vol 25
Did the cop that shot Sydney Wilson' go to her funeral.
OOOH YEAH !(KOOLAID MAN)
You can clearly hear her call out....Obeah. An evil demon of possession from Jamaican lore.
Also when she expires off camera you can hear two voices come out of her in stereo.. It is very creepy. But you must find the original uncorrupted video.
Thats a dude that aint no woman 😮
Excellent videos guys, but the elephant in the room...her voice change and speech patterns were "inhuman", the whole ordeal has the air of demonic possession about it.
wait thats a woman..........................
That’s Obamas wife’s sister 😂
Michaels brother u meant
The gap closed quickly
Play stupid games, win stupid prices 🤷🏻♂
Nnnnnngh OOOOYEAH!
Lmao this trans woman’s real voice came out 😂
Jesus H Christ you guys are all talk and no substance. The officer did get cut in the face
deadly threat is followed with deadly force but when he had the distance out of striking range any officer should have tased her if he hadnt already shot and had some distance he was in shock his reaction time was slow to even let her get that close again
You say the videos in the description it's not step up your game come on now.
How the fuq do you knock on a door from 15 feet away? Geezus
You knock on the door and then step back and away. Keeping your distance is important. Its less threatening for the occupants and distance gives you time.
Where did you get knock on the door from 15 feet away? Did you even watch the video?
@@curtslate471 it’s what he said. Be 10-15 feet away. Did you even watch?
@@targgthewise2892 it is possible but it requires a highly advanced procedure. knock on the door and then back up.
@@bill4149 thus reducing what one can hear through the door. Derp. There’s no perfect way.
