I am an old, old man and this song brings me to tears within one single verse. You have a written a song worthy of your daughter, and worthy of all the mothers and daughters of the world. No one would have criticized you for keeping it a secret for just you and her, but you for shared it with the rest of us. Thank you for that.

The "Come 'ere buddy" and "Momma's gonna sing you a song" at the beginning of this... Uch, it gets me every time, and I love it so much.
My 5-year-old daughter's name is also Evangeline, and when you sang "When we chose your name, we knew you'd fight the power, too." I almost died. We went to the Women's March together last year, and I hope every day that she understands this line. Way to make this non-crier cry!
Can you explain this some more? I honestly don't quite get the line. Does the name Evangeline have some significance when it comes to the patriarchy?

Brandi Carlisle is married to a woman, and they adopted their daughter. So the part "you are not some accident where no one thought it through" they're saying they chose to and fought to have a daughter. "The world has stood against us, made us mean to fight for you." Again, another thing saying basically, a lot of people are against same sex marriage, let alone same sex couples adopting. And then "and when we chose your name, we knew you'd fight the power too", I think she just means that when they picked her name it sounded like a strong powerful name and that they know their daughter will also fight for their rights to love one another.
@@shelbykennedy4496 the name Evangeline comes from the Greek Euangelion and that was what I was asking. I know she's Christian, (and yes, I knew her orientation, marital status, and I pieced the same-sex parents adoption struggle together as well) but I'm not sure what power an "Evangeline" is meant to fight based on her name

My first born is named Evangeline. She is 15 this year. This is such a beautiful song! I cant stop listening. It's so powerful. Shows where I was at the time she was born in a snowy upstate NY. How far I have come with her and now 4 more. This song has lifted me in such a way. New meaning to my motherhood. Evangeline WILL fight the power. Lots of love to your Evangeline and beautiful family.
As someone with bad mother issues this really makes me cry, sometimes I feel like I haven’t got a mother, she’s just a woman who tried to raise me and I really wish I had a mother, a real one like Brandi is for Evangeline

I’m about to become a first-time mom to a little girl. I’ve been fighting it really, really hard, wondering when I’d feel a big feeling that wasn’t “hard” or “bad.”
This song randomly came on my Spotify and I started sobbing at work and was totally overwhelmed with new emotions for the first time. I got my degree in opera and have felt so closed off to music since leaving school. So thanks for helping to peel back the layers . It feels good to know even if it’s hard, I’ll get there. Going to continue being patient with myself and have grace.

Such a beautiful song and such a beautiful mom and daughter. I can honestly say I have never known a greater joy in my life than being a parent, holding my children and now grandchildren to my chest as I rocked them to sleep. They are the greatest treasures in my life.

My life has not been easy and I never wanted children. In the end I decided to have a child. My daughter, my beautiful daughter who gave meaning to everything. She is 14 now and she is the light of my life. This song was very touching 💖

I have two little girls, one is almost four (May 6th) and one is 1.3 years old. Neither are named Evangeline, but they are all of everything in this song, and if we consider that Evangeline means "good news", then they are that to me. I adore this song. Gosh...Just love it.
