Dual receive with separate antennas is more impressive. Tempted to buy a second speaker for my FTDX101MP but I do begrudge spending the money for a tiny speaker in a steel box.
I prefer to use some Bose PC speakers. Don't even use my 101MP speaker... it stays hidden under my desk because it sounds like crap for how large it is.
How are the speakers powered? Do they turn off or can be configured to be when headphones used? Great video, I love my FTdx101D!
The Yaesu Speakers are not powered they go on and off with the radio and headphones are on a separate jack on front of radio.
I've the same radio and 1 speaker but just ordered another as I think this radio looks and sounds the dogs danglies with 2 speakers

Do you like the 101 over the flex 6400. I am looking at both and can’t decide
So for a traditional transceiver the 101D has it all but for SDR the flex is a great radio only issue now is you might find one used but flex is having a hard time stocking them.
But yeah I would take the 6400 over the 101 because a real SDR rig has way more versatility!

Would a similar sound be achieved using two 101s with a splitter and an FT-991a? Is impedance affected?
so you have so many options for using optional speakers, i would not use these speakers on the 991a I would go with a nice set of Bose Companion 2 i run them on my FTDX10 and they sound fantastic no splitter needed plug right into headphone jack which is also located on the front of your 991a.
Wish I could answer that but never tried good luck!

Has anyone had problems with overheating with the speakers right up at the side of the radio.
I found my 101d was overheating when i put the speakers up close covering the vents at both sides of the radio.
You might want to leave an inch gap as i found quite a bit of air pulled in though the sides when the fan comes on.

Thank you steve, overheating from the speaker being too close? Nope never heard of that one, You might want to send your radio in to yaesu for a check up!
I experienced the same thing. The fan will come on every 20 seconds and last 10 seconds. I moved the leakers a couple of inches from the radio and VOILA!! The fan rarely comes ON A few people have experienced the same exact thing. I have the 101mp. PHENOMENAL RADIO. 73s W5ZM
Thats nuts. At that crazy high price for two sp-230 speakers, you could have got a pair of really nice studio monitors that have a flat frequency response and sound a million times better. To each his own i guess
