Great video. Your curiosity about how these work has satisfied my curiosity and explained far more than I can comprehend. I'm so glad you enjoy making these videos and thank you for sharing them with us!
The spiky noise on the Gen 3 ring might be from diffraction. X-rays have wavelengths 10nm and smaller. The latest microchips have features as small as 5 nm. If there's a grid pattern on the chip, such as with memory, there's a chance it might be producing a 3D hologram, which is maybe why the spikes seem to jump out of the ring. This effect would depend on the angle of the X-rays hitting the grid. This could also confuse the scanner. The same could be done with a metallized T-shirt design and a terahertz (not x-ray) body scanner. I never tried it, for obvious reasons, but in theory one could make objects appear floating in space when scanned.
I love my Oura ring too! So much more comfortable than smart watches/bands. Plus it tackles a more holistic and wellness approach compared to other smart devices, which is better for activity. The cycle tracking and battery life is super awesome! And another interesting thing is it detects illness before you feel anything. Also, it was very accurate when it comes on tracking my sleep. You can actually protect its beauty without sacrificing biometrics and comfort with an OSleeve.
CT scans are a great tool for analyzing potted electronics with problems or a failure. I've found cracked capacitors, bad solder joints, etc., on parts that I had designed and had been returned with some problem.
@@monad_tcp Yeah it's mostly expensive because it is medical device, so there are tons of regulatory compliance in place to make sure the hearing aid doesn't damage what left of your mothers hearing.
Amazing teardown and analysis! It's wild that we live in a era where electronic sorcery is so miniaturized so that "magic rings" track our bodies' rhythms with time crystals and light. Like what?! Thanks for sharing!
Great teardown Becky, that scan was great! Hope the blood sacrifice wasn’t too costly. I made a burnt offering for the success of a soldering job this afternoon but fortunately not a significant one.
I need to figure out how to mount my phone to a microscope like that. Exploration of circuits is so cool to me and the ct scans made it that much better.
15:45 That is cool to know where the programming leads are. I bet a person could drill into that to expose them, and be able to do custom mods, and reseal with some hot glue.
Have you used the Oura? Does it require their cloud service? I want to get a continuous blood oxygen monitor but am concerned about who has access to my data.
This is not an Oura review-- yes I tried it for a few days before sending it off to be scanned, but I didn't sign up for their new paid subscription service. I'd guess the app data is collected in the cloud regardless.
Differences between Gen2 and Gen3 Hardware-wise: (source: www.smartringnews.com/posts/oura-2-vs-oura-3-comparison-whats-the-difference) The Oura 3 sports a new set of green LED sensors for tracking your heart rate in real-time and throughout the day. Do note that the predecessor can only track heart rate variability while you’re sleeping. With the new daytime heart rate tracking, the ring has therefore a better grasp of your routines, meals, stress levels, and environment. Oura can better understand how a cup of coffee affects your heart rate. Oura rings largely depend on sensors, including temperature. The Oura 3 is packed with a total of seven temperature sensors for better detection of illnesses. Predecessors only have 3 temperature rings. The Oura 3 is also packed with more sensors besides the green LED and NTC body temperature ones. More infrared LED sensors are coming in 2022 for blood oxygen level (SpO2) tracking. The ring also uses an advanced calibrated sensor for more accurate period prediction and illness detection. In terms of battery life, nothing much has changed. Both the Oura 2 and Oura 3 can be fully charged in 20-80 minutes and last for 4-7 days. The Oura 3, however, is capable of monitoring current battery consumption, allowing Oura to conserve your battery whenever possible. In addition, the charger is almost the same, except the new one has a color-changing LED light for easier charging status identification.
Damn... Titanium? That ring must be expensive. I wonder if the titanium is thick enough to prevent crush injuries or do they use it just to jack the price up?
This is how I learned that titanium sparks at all! I was under the impression only ferrous metals spark, but now I know. Learn something new every day.
Total bait and switch. My wife bought one and it was great. She buys me the new one (Gen 3) for $350, 6 months later they shut off access to all the data and want $6/month for the rest of my life to get access to it. That’s crazy! Generation 1 & 2 didn’t do that. Anyone who bought those first two models don’t have to pay anything. We asked them for our money back, this is absurd.
Love the detailed tear downs. The X-rays were super interesting
That scanning tech is pretty badass
David with the Clarissa explains it all entrance
YES!!! We do it every time, I'm so glad whenever anyone notices the reference 😁

Neat, thanks!
Interesting,thanks.
So you could troll airport security folk with a fancy tshirt?
@@warpspeedscpI wouldn't recommend that. Their job is hard enough the way it is.
I didn’t know about Lumafield, it seems like an amazing company! Thanks for sharing that tech
This teardown is most excellent. Nice job! You had me at cross sectional via xrays. Awesome.

Great video. Viewing the scans and hearing the discussion was amazingly joyful. Thank you.
As an electrical engineer working with Hearing Aids this seems almost enormous, but still very interesting ;)
Thanks for watching!
Those are cool, and super expensive. My mother has one, its more expensive than my entire computer, good thing its leased and paid by insurance.
I really wish someone would explode one so I can see inside.
@@monad_tcp Yeah it's mostly expensive because it is medical device, so there are tons of regulatory compliance in place to make sure the hearing aid doesn't damage what left of your mothers hearing.
You guys, in the hearing aid and imolant business, are magicians:)

Interesting teardown and scans! Thanks Becky!
This was awesome! I love the detail and clarity from the scans! It's amazing how much you can see! This is a helluva learning tool!
Love the CT scan of the 3rd gen.
Great teardown Becky, that scan was great! Hope the blood sacrifice wasn’t too costly. I made a burnt offering for the success of a soldering job this afternoon but fortunately not a significant one.
Love this kind of stuff. Great video. Thank you for this.
That ring is Definitely some Star Trek tech lol. Love It!
I like the red timer bar during the sponsor mention. That's a really good idea.
love seeing lumafield scans! im super jelly i want to scan some stuff!
these teardowns are so fascinating to me
Interesting analysis. That CT service surely can make it easier.
God this channel is so cool
Incredible technology.
Great video. Super interesting. Mahalo for sharing! 🙂🐒
Awesome. What would the CT Scan have cost if it wasn't free?
great work!!
Thanks a lot!
That's crazy small to me. So much smaller than my watch. Thanks for sharing this one with us. You have to do the hearing aid next. 🙂

these videos are amazing
Does the ring have an RF antenna? I don't understand how it sends you your heartbeat.
We think it's a chip antenna
Nice vid. I wonder where the antenna was on the ring for wireless comm.
Will you show us what is inside whoop band too, please?
15:45 That is cool to know where the programming leads are. I bet a person could drill into that to expose them, and be able to do custom mods, and reseal with some hot glue.
I have the gen 3 stuck on my finger for 4 days. Do you think it'll be easy for a doctor with a ring cutter to open?!
"Varry naice"
Was that a reference to Borat I just heard? LOL
Reminds me of old Pontiac or ford buzz coils. They dip them in a tar that's like impossible to remove easily.
Usually old tar potting will melt if warmed in the oven.
fascinating. Thanks!
Hy I am a Radtech. And sure i impressed by the resolution and the colored LUT.
What is the model of the wireless charging chip of the ring? Please take a clearer picture, especially the side near the battery pads, thank you!
Can you take a closer look at the wireless charging part, what chip is used to achieve that?
Cool, but after the LTT name debacle I have reservations about the companies handling of it.

the titanium seems pretty thin, how much weight of it does the ring have? ;)

I wonder if it’s possible to take the guts of an AirTag to work with the Oura ring?
Where is the accelerometer chip in there?
They should develop an automatic microchip decapping machine for rev engineering reasons.
Can you replace the battery?
Free CAT scan for a quick mention on UA-cam...... yeah, I think I'd give that a go! ;)

How is ham radio doing?
What about a solvent like Acetone.
Tried it at 2:00; I think it's polypropylene.
16mAh to power it for 7 days holy... Does that mean smart watches CAN actually be even smaller?
Imagine how much easier copying the B-29 would have been if the Soviets had this kind of high res CT scan in the late 40s, lol
Sure doesn’t spark much for titanium when cut.

wow, thing really is titanium
Technology has come a long way, this ring seemed like something from................... Harry Potter.
Looks like NFC charging
