Technically, someone found it at the bottom of the pond near your shoreline. I bought it and had them mail it to the states. Tell us about Hilka please…. Are they worth restoring? Do they have a decent reputation in the woodworking community?
Hi Gordon, Hilka are an ok brand, but just ok, they're not the cheapest nastiest plane you find over here..their most common habitat is sitting on a shelf in a big box store unnoticed and unloved 😉
I'd certainly agree with that. I'd describe some of their stuff as "rough and ready". I've still got some Hilka 1/2" drive sockets that are probably late 70's and most of them are still in one piece but they don't fit particularly well. I'd only buy Hilka woodwork tools if I was really desperate, skint and blindfolded! :-) TBH I'm surprised it's got wooden parts as they liked their moulded plastic.
Fun to watch, crazy reveal. Surprising you got as much removed as you did.
Wife watching the food channel: "Hmm, I wish we had smellovision." Me, watching stuff like this, "Trust me, you really don't."
@@chris-C8 hahahaha that’s super funny. Thanks for watching!
as soon as it opened I said that might be a Millers Falls but I think I'm wrong now that you mentioned cap iron and keyhole
Yeah I didn’t know what it was and being sent from the UK, I suspected it was going to be one no hadn’t heard of.
That thing is gnarly lol
Also, beautiful vise 👀
Gnarly meets beautiful. Thanks for noticing…. I absolutely love it. I could add the Oliver to the long list of “I should do a video about that”. 🤣
Not enough videos out there on patternmaker's vises, I'd watch it with interest and envy 😆@@gordonaddison307
At work we pressure wash that stuff at 3000psi!!
I have a power washer… I didn’t know! It would have made for tough video. 👍
It’s a Hilka!
@@jamescampbell7780 you are correct sir. Thank you for watching! 👍
Not a Stanley plane... 😞 but I've learned a lot again ...🙂 Thanks!👍

Thank you for watching. And correct, not a Stanley but is was fun! The furniture looks Okay so I’ll finish what I started. 👍
You have an English hand plane made by HILKA. Somebody threw it all the way across the pond and came up a bit short!

Should return it to where it was found :)
That’s funny. I did have someone suggest “it should be in a fish tank”. I kinda like the idea.
I can smell it from here.
So bad…. I should have known.
Try being stuck in a ballast tank with no windows! @@gordonaddison307
❤🎉😮
😮You have your work cut out for you on this one!
Hilka seems to be a UK brand.
Yessir! A new one to me….
You said there was hair, good chance it might be a murder

@@keithansley6279 maybe!!! But this evidence has been chemically altered so….. he’s probably good to go.

That was my guess once I popped the knob off. But noooooo.
stanley, best odds
My thoughts exactly (that’s one reason I bought it) but I knew something was up as soon as the knob came off. The base just looked too different.
I doubt even a gallon of Evaporust would help.
I’ve never used it but I would certainly drop the whole thing in a bucket and walk away.😆
Always sad to see how people package hand planes for shipping.
Well, considering it’s condition…..lol
@@gordonaddison307 Even then, the handles could have very well been broken in shipping. I've seen people pack NOS perfect planes just like this.
It is a cheapo brand called HILKA - not worth the effort. Probably thrown overboard cos it didn't cut it!!!
Hahaha…. It’s on the top of my plane till collecting dust.👍
It's the equivalent of your 'Harbour Freight' - Don't bust a gut !!!!!!
