The American company that buys these monumental vases will make approximately $3,000 each. • @patrickbrennan2864
      @patrickbrennan2864 Рік тому

      It’s spindle turning…..nothing complicated about it. Impressed with the endurance required, but so much of the wood could have been cut away initially (and used for other projects) instead of turning it into shavings- “work smarter, not harder” - and I thought (hoped) we’d see a fountain, with colored water at night under lights, flowing out of the top (I thought that’s why it was drilled out in the center, for plumbing). That’d be cool.
      You could carve all sorts of wonderful designs into it - but if it’s going to be left plain, as is, well….it could have been styrofoam or resin (and a lot less work, and one less dead tree).
      Hope you’re planting trees to replace the ones sacrificed to ornaments…..remember, the trees made life POSSIBLE on this floating rock in the first place !!!! Without them, this place is full of CO2, and completely unlivable……and we thank them by chopping them up, endangering our own survival.
      BRILLIANT
      Ever consider how a tree produces hundreds of thousands of leaves every year, yet the earth around it doesn’t get used up ? How do they make all that material “out of thin air” ?
      Leaves are mostly carbon and water…..trees pull carbon right out of the air, and can DRINK water right from the air (mostly at night when humidity levels go way up)
      Now there’s 8 billion of us, taking in oxygen and exhaling CO2…….and what percent of the world’s trees are GONE ?
      YOU SHOULD FIND OUT
      Because there’s a DISASTER coming
      WE CANNOT SURVIVE WITHOUT THE TREES THAT MAKE THE OXYGEN WE BREATHE.

    Yard art? It looks like a really big vase. It needs a giant flower on top.
    I see another one made earlier in the shop.
    Anyway, it's beautiful!

      How is that? So it branch out and starve other trees from fully maturing. You do realize that once a tree reaches maturity it’s better to remove it so others can as well

      naive comment, akin to not removing natural undergrowth...even though it leads to massive fires from minor lightning strikes due to it being fuel. The result is burnt down trees and forests. Trees are a beautiful 100% renewable resource!
      No clear cutting though!

    Only in Asia can you find such dimensionally stable, whole tropical logs.
    Here (in the good-ol' U.S.A) I would have had to turn this in conjoined, hollow and staved segments. The thing would have had to fit in boxes and be shipped to some distant destination. (Some assembly required.)
    Nice job.

  • @0...___...
    @0...___... Рік тому +15

    While the vase is lovely, there was too much of that beautiful tree wasted in its creation. When you look at what is left from what he started with, it's criminal how so much was gone. I love watching wood turning and these artistic people. The amount of waste though in wood turning as in this particular time, is wrong. The tree should never have been cut down in the first place. Yet it was, so it needed, all of it, needed to be respected. Too much waste here.
    Lovely, yet far too much waste.
