Shopping List for How to Repair an Asphalt Pothole:
- 4 bags of paver base [amzn.to/3505hP1] (more or less depending on depth of hole)
- 2 bags of 50-lb commercial-grade blacktop repair [amzn.to/34TLgtb], used to seal hole
Tools for How to Repair an Asphalt Pothole:
Shovel [amzn.to/32WEu3V], used to dig out excess debris
Steel tamper [amzn.to/2O9LRkD], used to compact stone dust, aggregate, and blacktop repair
Wet saw [amzn.to/2OcSC58], used to cut asphalt
Hose [amzn.to/2QkO13D], used for water flow to wet saw
Steps for How to Repair an Asphalt Pothole:
1. Use a shovel to dig out the excess rock, dirt, and other debris until you reach subsoil.
2. Use paver base to fill in the hole, compacting it with the tamper every 2 to 4 inches until you’re within 2 inches of finished grade.
3. Cut the edges around the rough hole to make a cleaner surface, using a wet saw with a diamond blade.
4. Dig out any remaining excess of rock, dirt, and debris.
5. Use a high-performance blacktop repair, which is a mix of stone and asphalt binder to fill in the hole.
6. Put it down in 1.5-inch-thick layers and smooth it out.
7. Compact each layer until the patch meets the edges.
8. Let it sit 3 to 4 weeks before making any turns on it with a car.

@audubon crosby Why is she useless???

CSI driveway repair
These two did a better job than official road repair crews would, that is they actualy took the trouble of campacting the base underneath instead of just cutiing off the asphalt and dump another one just to see it crack in the same spot just months afterwards
the subgrade wasnt cut out and fixed with base material
If you expect road crews to do this to every single pothole, you’re on crack. 1. That would take way to long. 2. By the time they fixed them new ones would have formed. 3. Potholes in roads are caused by frost in the ground heaving the blacktop up and down causing it to crack and holes to form. Potholes are a fact of life, do what you can with them and move on.
@@j_pasty_w1823 Lets see....instead of actually fixing the potholes, they sit under a tree and nap all day. They wake up and do shitty job, then refix the same pothole 3 months later with the same shitty method.
Yeah. I want them to fix the pothole the right way. Do your job instead of being lazy. Or eliminate your state job and lets contract it out.
@@j_pasty_w1823 I have been repairing potholes for 22 years and you are right. There are different techniques and good and bad ways of repairing them. Bottom line is citizens call in irate about when their pothole will be fixed? We realistically do not have the time in a large city with less and less employees to repair each pothole by saw cutting etc.

Want to know how my city repairs potholes?
One Easy Step... They Don't!
I live in Dallas and I’m guessing you do also lol. Streets here are horrible.
@War Machine I live in the Detroit area. Here they don't even bother to put garbage in the holes. As you drive over it your car slowly falls apart and that fills the hole in!
Obviously I'm kidding but might as well be true. Our roads suffer because it can easily be in the middle 90s in the summer and well below zero in the winter.
sounds about right

The black stuff he put at the end looks so satisfying
Forget about the asphalt patch, I want to know more about the dry well and all those pipes.
Water from inside the house, or more likely water from around the house being directed to the drywell, to be dispersed away from the house down the grade.
Yep, water is usually diverted to a dry well so it can easily dissipate into the ground
Great instruction. Thank you for the time and effort you took to make this video and share it with us. Greetings from Croatia.
Thousand times better than the road commission does around here fixing potholes.
I swear every city road crew filling pot holes I've witnessed. They just dump a few shovel full of asphalt and to tamp it down they smack it with the shovel. That's how I thought potholes were fixed. I had no idea there's a correct way to properly fill the hole.
Matt Thomas they probably purposely do it wrong so they’re still employed when they come back next year to “fix” it again
Imagine doing this for all the potholes... they would still be on the same road ten years later.. meanwhile you are late to work from the traffic back up cause guys are laying on the road digging three feet down
No, that's when you repave the fucking road.
Replace the rd. Yea right then people bitch cause taxes go up. Can’t have it both way
@@mattp1482 You mean 1 guy digs 3 feet down... 1 shovel per hour... while the other 17 people on the crew stand around

Usually potholes are caused by water freezing and thawing and penetrating in to the pavement and finally popping out a pothole.
woah..
bert26a yes the ground expansion due to the winter, creating air pockets underneath. I made a funny video on potholes. Check it out if you want to laugh
Now I learned something and could apply the knowledge to fill many holes in my parking lot. I was about to worry kids might come over for adventure rides. But where could I get a diamond cutter and how much it could cost me?
would love to drive there in a hot summer day great fix right?
Hey can you make o video on how to use an edger
Come on lady get some dirt on that shovel.
I literally said out loud, "This bitch doesn't know how to use a fucking shovel" when i saw her digging.
Yeah I was surprised. Probably she never touched a shovel her whole life.
These scenes are staged anyway. The homeowner only does some action for the camera and they have a regular crewmember who does the rest of the digging.
Roger!
I’ve seen potholes bigger on the highway here in Minnesota.
Cutting the edges first would have been my choice, then once the hole is cleaned out continue the process. One of the most important items is to know just how compact to tamp the hold. Too much compaction and the asphalt pothole mix will crack.
Can you use a normal diamond blade for cutting stone or does it have to be a special one for cutting ashfelt?
Matt Seymour regular diamond blade
idk but this is dope

i want to know where you buy "pack". In the video he has a bag of the stuff however Home Depot or Lowe's dont seem to have anything like it. I noticed that the bag is unlabeled. I did a little research and found that I believe some people call it "hard pack" but still couldn't find the product.
Order it from Amazon. And the bag actually has some labels on it if you look carefully.
@@venividivici4253 you are right there are labels on the bag that you can read if you view the video in high def and in slow motion lol. The label is most clear at 3:24 So what he is using is actually "paver base" which I didnt know was a thing until now. Looking for "pack" through Google doesn't lead one in the right direction.
I do electrical work for a living and always try to call parts by their official name not their slang names because slang names mean different things to different people. Case in point is this video, I was way off base on what was being used!

For the comments or people asking why TOH says *Home center*. The answer is very simple, to avoid copyright and getting a strike on UA-cam. I seriously wish that they can get some legality and say Home Depot or Lowe's. Home center seems very dull to the script and confuse the viewers.
