I searched and search the Internet for the reason and you are the only one that provided this exact answer. I guess if you drain the line first before needing to service this valve, like shutting the water off at the street main and then turning on a faucet somewhere and allowing all the water to drain out, then performing the service on the valve, it wouldn’t make any difference what direction you install this particular valve.
