I have a cat/guest room. I have 4 litter boxes in strategic spots all over the house so the one in the guest/cat room is removed during guest stay. The bed has no bedding until the guest arrives. Until then it is covered with a plastic sheet topped with a double size fitted sheet so when the time to make the bed, just strip it off and have a clean bed to put on the clean bedding. A run with the vacuum and the room is ready, no cat hair, no litter box, no smell. A really great practical cat/guest room. Of course, the decor is a cat theme and the bedding and quilt are in a cat print which my guest love, a fun room. Oh, and you shouldn't put anything on the shelves to be knocked off, it's for the cats and their need to feel safe at higher levels. Cat haters be gone!

Purrfect outcome, love the litter box idea. What's with all the negative comments though? I cannot understand people's inability to be kind, the cat lady loved the outcome and she's the only one that matters. 🐈🐈
The bunk bed idea was brilliant and so was the trunk. The steps made for the cat too doubled up at attractive shelves. The radiator cover, the scratchboard, small bed, closet door, and organizing the closet so many innovative things. Must be well planned during the week with a lot of brainstorming before coming up to this result. So this is weekend only for implementation planning must be taking a week for sure. I loved this video the most for the innovative ideas.
Ashleigh Keator finally a positive comment every other one has been ewwww litter box in a bedroom and ewwwwww mats as the head boards there will be fur and crap but it’s a Reno show and she liked it so good job with the comment PS. I
I love the look of the end result. I would NEVER put a littler box in a guest room unless my only expected guests were people I did not want to have than a single night. I think the cats will retaliate over the closed-in litter box.
Teresa White if you are cleaning the box regularly there shouldn't be any smells. Also, a good portion of cats don't mind an enclosed litter box but it does vary between cats.
I totally agree! Would NOT put a litter box in with guests. No matter how much you clean, cat pee is nasty! It stinks! Its the embarrassing smell that most cat owners aren't aware they have!
Teresa White - Oh God I completely agree. I would never put a guest in a room where pets spend most of their time in there. Consider the smells and possible allergies they might have. Unless of course as you said you don't want those "guests" to be repeat guests.
I'm obsessed with this show! In my mind I have already remodeled every single room in my house lol. I live with my parents still and I already have amazing ideas for when I have my own home. Thank you for inspiring me.
I'd feel sorry for any guest who had to stay in that room, definitely not hygienic. But love the headboard. A combined personal home office with cat room would be better.
Of course not. Just not very considerate, that's all. Cat owners are usually used to and loved cats presence. Guests however, varies and may have allergies or particular with smell. Hence, my suggestion a home office where only the owner may be comfortable with such arrangement.
Robin Gillespie, which is still not hygienic. We don’t let our animals on any furniture and defend nothing our bed. Love them to pieces but not a fan of fur all over everything. They hav their own bed to lounge on.
🤣🤣🤣 yes. We have two cats and our second room is our office/cat room. People that stay over sleep on the couch which is pretty comfy. And if they don’t like they’ll just have to wait for us to have a house with 3 bedrooms 🤣🤣🤣🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
That litter box is an absolute no-go. It will hold in the odor which cats with their hyper-sensitive sense of smell won't tolerate. It's a recipe for disaster. Combining that with a guest room is a terrible idea, too. I've had as many as ten cats at once, so I think I qualify as a "crazy cat lady." That said, I would not expect my guests to sleep in a room dedicated to the cats and the space that houses their litter box. (By the way, if you have multiple cats, you really should have multiple boxes. Two cats, three boxes; three cats, four boxes, etc.) I agree with the one who suggested it be combined with a home office instead.
Great ideas!!! I absolutely LOVED that the trunk was spacious enough for a proper litter box space. I've seen so many DIY's / converted furniture that leave the cats with a tiny space where they can barely stand to use the "bathroom", it's horrifying!
I love cats, we have 3, but this is the most impractical room ever. The bed will just be covered in cat fur, claw sheds and bits of mat. The shelves will just have everything knocked off them. And a litter box in a guest room?! Which then means if you have guests over they have to sleep with the door open and wake up to the smell of cat poo, no thanks! 🙈
@@limespider8 no it's called my mom keeps her cat in there because she's considerate of guest and isn't a crazy cat lady. She let's the cat out when she's home and loves her cat.
BINGE WATCHING PER YOUR SUGGESTION!! this headboard would be awesome with fabric covered panels slipped in there too!! you get tired of the fabric or it looks dingy....change the fabric and you change the look of the room! love this idea!
I think the majority of the commenters are missing so many points. The cats don't live in this room- They basically have this space as a lounge because that's where they started and felt most comfortable when they moved into the house. Many times, cat people have friends, and thus guests, who are animal lovers- this doesn't mean that guests enjoy eating hair sniffing poo, but that they are aware and comfortable with the presence of animals in their friend's homes. Bedding can and should be washed- Pets or not, bedding should be prepared for incoming guests. I think it takes a dirty person to have their guests sleep on fur, litter, and nail shavings; Now we're looking at people and not the pets. This is likely not the only place that this woman has a litterbox. It is recommended to have a box per cat plus one. As many homes have one per cat I'd figure there is another box elsewhere. If not, then I'll give you that one. I don't want to sleep in someone's bathroom either. lol
I have just seen 2 of your videos and then this one. I loved it. I have a cat rescue (out-of-my-pocket not a non-profit) with 35+ cats with 4 in the house. Your ideas were spot on. Really enjoyed this video. You now have a new subscriber AND I live at Lowe's. If I were younger than 70, I would be knocking on your door. You are the cat's meow. Just telling the truth and not being a dirty old man. Keep up the great projects. Wish you the best. Great talent. 👍
Wow, you've outdone yourself with this one Monica! It looks great and it's cat friendly - I couldn't imagine how one would pull the guest room + cat room combo off, but you did. The cat puns on the walls are just awesome.
Take all the decorations off the cat spaces and it has potential. Though I am concerned about how an old wooden trunk will absorb the litter box smells and I agree with the person below, sleeping on a bed with a scratchy head board is not my idea of comfort. Sorry, but design shows and practicality don't always mix.
True. This is why BuzzFeed has launched their own version of this show. They have less expensive items and more practical as well as creative ideas. I hope both make it, but any more like this....
Years ago I purchased a smallish side table that "disguised" the cat litter. It was a really terrible design. It doesn't breathe enough. It quickly became moist and foul inside that cabinet. I had to trash it after less than a year and that was with regular cleaning and airing out. Best to locate litter to another area.
Wow wow wow! Awesome, Wonderful, Great! Being a cat mom, Ive really enjoyed this particular video amongst all the others! Thanks for the amazing video and thanks to Natalie for her love for the cats! Wish you could come to Mauritius...
OMGosh! We’re about to pull down all the wall deco we shoehorned into our 1100sq ft (CA) house from our 2550sq ft (TX) 16 years ago for our cats. In order to create more navigatable space for our cats to be able to leave the floor if they need a break from the dogs. 30+yrs rescuing & fostering and I’ve finally caved; and then I find this vid!! OMGosh, the inspiration! The only thing we’d discussed that y’all did is the crown molding skywalk. I’m so excited to incorporate the things y’all showed here! ps: our guest room is ACTUALLY our cat room, complete with a baby gate to keep the dogs out; this is just too perfect
Oh my gosh, last one you did was my fav now this is my new fav! Why cus we actually have 7 house cats!! I wish I could do this for them. The drawer ideas are soo cool, we actually have old drawers which i told my sis she can use fof her kitty. Think it would be purr-fect! :D love watching what you come up with!
+Faheema Patel 5 of them are but 3 are pretty independant. they live in my tackroom, don't worry its huge! plus next summer I'm planning on building them a catio. I just redid the floor and I'm gonna do some cute things inside the tackroom once the walls r up in a few weeks, how bout your kitties?
mim l that sounds lovely! They seem quite happy! 2 of them can be lap kitties, a few like cuddles but they dont really interact with each other, except the mummy and her girl lol
Really great. My fav is the trunk litter box. I'll have to share this with my sister and bother-in-law their cat Felix would love to have his own room!!!💜
I’ve watched this over and over and continue to go back to it! I don’t even have a cat! I’m obsessed with the gorgeous design, multi use and love you put into this project... well all of your projects but this one more than the others speaks to me and makes me want to build the cat scratch bed, the bunk bed and the kitty 💩 box for no reason other than I love it and am obsessed and inspired!!! Pls I’m begging you, do one inspired by a dog room
Maybe it's the feline in me, but I ADORE this room! My beloved grandson is deathly allergic (nj) to cat dander. So, no cats for me -- but I would love staying in that room.
I love this project. We have a cat at home that my husband offered to babysit for a friend until he found a new appartment....December 2018, he was still a kitten. As of today, it's officially our cat and "Tiger" would definitely claim a room like this one just for him...no guests allowed!😁
I thought the same thing, but at 16:20 - 16:22 you can see there's a little lip. Still, I'd be worried that if the door swung even a little towards or away from you it might bump the picture.
So it looks nice, but some of those things the cats will destroy in no time. The shelves are cool and a good idea, but the things on them and on the window are going to be meeting the floor sooner rather than later. The hidden litter box is a good idea but without a top and al that extra space the cats are going to go in the trunk itself and have a stinky issue. Now getting a enclosed box inside there(with a carbon filter if possible) and attaching it right to the door would leave room in the trunk for things like the scooper and litter. The head board is a really cool and good idea, I can see without the mats being secured the cats could rip them out in no time if they are using it for their primary scratcher. Just a couple of easy to remove screws in the front shoud take care of that and if the mats are thick enough might be able to hide them. Overall its a cool room though
I was once invited to a neighborhood party...the hostess was crazy about flat-nosed cats & had at least half-a-dozen. As I entered the front door the most awful & powerful smell of cat urine engulfed me. During the evening, the hostess was saying that her cats did NOT smell. There was an awkward silence where we guests said nothing to the contrary, while looking at one another as if to say, "She has to be kidding!" LOL Obviously, she was used to that overpowering horrid smell...sort of like those who live in paper mill towns don't seem to notice the horrendous odor that covers the area for several miles around. All that to say that I don't believe I would be comfortable spending the night in a room that housed a cat's litter box, whether it contained fresh litter or NOT. Also, expecting guests to sleep on a bed with a headboard that doubled as a cat's scratching post is NOT a very nice thing to do...whether the guests realize it's double use or NOT. Still, that room was lovely as a cat room!
Love the ideas for this makeover. I do think the scratching post headboard missed the mark, however. The cats need to be on the bed to use the carpet and it wasn't secured to the backing board so if the scratch, they're going to pull it out. Also, a big part of using a scratching post is stretching and it's important for their physical health. A better choice might have been to wrap the long sides of the headboard with sisal rope and make them actual tall posts--at least 4-5 feet. I also noticed that "stuff" was put into the shelves and in front of the window. Those cats are either going to knock those things off or ignore the spaces. I know it looked nice for the reveal, but not at all likely to stay that way. If cats and humans are going to coexist, there does need to be some separation of territory--especially for guests.
Depends on the clearance and radiator type. Some older radiators get real hot and need a guard to prevent burns, those you would never cover with combustible material. Some municipal codes do not allow any covers that can potentially burn.
Hahaha homeowner's expression at 3:45 exactly mirrored mine when I saw the ugly fiber mat for headboard. That stuff sheds badly even without a cat scratching it and would feel so rough against any skin that makes contact. Not a great choice - UNLESS you want to keep guests away & then it would be truly brilliant.
These DIY shows are meant for inspiration. Use the ideas or not depending on your space and needs. For instance, I don't like the scratching mats used as a headboard, but I am thinking of modifying the design to use on a small wall where furniture placement and shelving is not possible. And the reminders to stock your guest room with items your guests may enjoy or need was great (even if they don't share a room with your wee beasties).
Monica, they are not cat friends, they are fur-babies :) I too, hacked a piece of furniture for a litter cupboard. My tips are: seal the inside of the trunk with paint, spray finish or peel and stick paper to help when cleaning, and keep odor from permeating the wood. Add an inexpensive bath mat under the litter pan to catch the litter on their feet before they jump out. Does the trunk have a vent or other light source? Does the lid have a prop to make scooping user friendly? And finally, add a flower pot to hold litter tools and baggies. For this to truly be a comfortable guest space, she will have to be a fastidious house keeper and her friends are going to have to be cat lovers.
the only way i would have a guest room/cat room is if the only one who would sleep in there is ME! we keep clean litter boxes but every time a cat poops it wafts thru half the house. That would really offend guests noses.
Ok so don't get it How do you people pick and choose the person's you going go to? Who pays for everything? And why is it that I'm trying to get some of the stuff from your program and I can't at the stores?
All these people complaining about how messy cats are. But you knew that the project was to make a cat room. Obviously her guests know what they are getting themselves into should they chose to spend the night. It's an impractical sleeping space to be sure, but the cats will be happy. Pets give up a lot to live with humans, why not give them a little more in return?
That's what I was thinking through the whole episode. I'm allergic to all animals and this as a guest room sounded like a nightmare to me. It's a great cat space tho! So glad they made the skywalk!
Jessica Nicole you can always pre clean everything and put up fresh bed sheets, etc. spray some deodorize animal products. If u have animals then you know how to clean properly; not even are slobs.
Looked nice but in reality wouldn't work. She'll have to cover the bed so itchy sharp fibers don't get in the sheets/blankets. As others mentioned the stuff on the shelves and in front of the window just makes it difficult for the cats to use. The litterbox I don't think the cats are gonna love either and that seemed like a pretty small litterbox for two cats.
Everything on those shelves, and sills is gonna be in the floor.... That head board is getting torn to shreds and the picture to the side of the new guest door is getting smashed. The Skywalk should have gone around more of the room otherwise it's just a place for the cats to lurk and jump on people when they enter the room. Unless she fastened the legs of the "top bunk" it's not really safe... 10/10 guest room 1/10 cat room...
I love this project. We have a cat at home that my husband offered to babysit for a friend until he found a new appartment....December 2018, he was still a kitten. As of today, it's officially our cat and "Tiger" would definitely claim a room like this one just for him...no guests allowed!😁
15:58 you put a picture right where the barn door has to slide
my thought exactly
the door slides the other way toward the wall , i think coz it was a really tiny door frame so it doesn't actually have to slide far?
I thought the same thing, but at 16:20 - 16:22 you can see there's a little lip. Still, I'd be worried that if the door swung even a little towards or away from you it might bump the picture.
The barn door goes over the picture
Grace Hanlon, no it doesn’t. It hangs close to the wall. You can see that in the video.
This is one of my favorite rooms you’ve ever done! 😁
Love love love the litter box!
Subscribed and binge watched everything once I saw the Threadbanger episode.
Awesome stuff!
I have NEVER in my life seen anything more cute and beautiful at the same time than this.
I give this project as a fellow CAT-lady a 110%
So it looks nice, but some of those things the cats will destroy in no time.
I got a feeling Monica doesn't have cats. She needs to do more "cattification" research & tips from Jackson Galaxy. LoL!
I'm so hooked to this series!!
That was really perrrrrrfect, love all of it.
Was not sure how would pull it off... Well done!
👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️LOVE THE CAT SCRATCHER + COLORS TOO.
Awesome 👏
Who the hell wants to sleep in a room that cats live in with a litter box?!
Jessica dose a great job this is very helpful Thanks for the ideas and looking forward to more,😎
I love all the drawers that were put on the walls but really all the projects are awesome except for having a scratching post on the headboard!
Guest: Oooh what a beautiful backboard!
Owner: haha.. ya...
Guest: wakes up to cat on their head at 3:00am with their claws stuck in scratch board 😂
I'm no expert, but wouldn't a wooden radiator cover with small openings be a fire hazard?
Doug, no it’s safe! It’s doesn’t touch the radiator and it’s really common.
Depends on the clearance and radiator type. Some older radiators get real hot and need a guard to prevent burns, those you would never cover with combustible material. Some municipal codes do not allow any covers that can potentially burn.
I'm sure the radiator wnt get hot enough to start a fire w wood..... lol
I love the end result! 👌😻
When u said this will be meow v Lous I SUBBED
So cute!! I love cats and sleep with my cat nearly everyday, so I don’t mind spending my nights in that room at all.
stick an empty cardboard box in that room and watch the cats still choose that over anything else. Haha love it though!
This is too cool! I would spens a night in this cat room any day! Haha
Monica, they are not cat friends, they are fur-babies :)
I too, hacked a piece of furniture for a litter cupboard.
Either turn it into a cat room or a guest room. Its not working as both. Which is such a shame because some good ideas were implimented here.
Her face when Monica pulled out that doormat!
So practical and pretty !!
the only way i would have a guest room/cat room is if the only one who would sleep in there is ME! we keep clean litter boxes but every time a cat poops it wafts thru half the house. That would really offend guests noses.
Ok so don't get it
How do you people pick and choose the person's you going go to?
Who pays for everything?
And why is it that I'm trying to get some of the stuff from your program and I can't at the stores?
lol seriously the best you could come up with was meowlis 😂😂
ikr?? Like what even was that supposed to mean? I’m glad i heard it correctly and noticed the awful attempt at being somehow funny
Excellent 👌👍. You did awesome!
This would be an awesome Saturday Night skit.
I totally want to build a litter box trunk! We have a box in a special cabinet right now and it's kind of disintegrating. Poopin' in style!
I would never put my guests in a room with kitty litter box. The dander of dust, fur and the smell may cause an allergic reaction.
I hope her guests aren't allergic to cats
That's what I was thinking through the whole episode. I'm allergic to all animals and this as a guest room sounded like a nightmare to me. It's a great cat space tho! So glad they made the skywalk!
I’m not allergic but wouldn’t want cat hair or a litter box in the guest room.
heyitsmatti :D nice one
Jessica Nicole you can always pre clean everything and put up fresh bed sheets, etc. spray some deodorize animal products. If u have animals then you know how to clean properly; not even are slobs.
This is a Cat-tastic" project! Thanks!:-)
Chat noir makes more cat puns in a episode
Looked nice but in reality wouldn't work. She'll have to cover the bed so itchy sharp fibers don't get in the sheets/blankets. As others mentioned the stuff on the shelves and in front of the window just makes it difficult for the cats to use. The litterbox I don't think the cats are gonna love either and that seemed like a pretty small litterbox for two cats.
Excellent idea. The cat sanctuary.
My cat has a "cattitude". He wants a room like that! Purrfect!
That bunk bed had so much potential but it just doesn't look too good.
