    Just a tip: You need to grant user permissions for "PlexMediaServer" to the shared folder pointed to media otherwise plex can't see your videos!

    • @galavanter
      @galavanter Рік тому +12

      On DSM 7 you need to:
      1. go to Settings/Shared folder
      2. Select the media folder you want Plex to have access to
      3. Click Edit
      4. Open Permissions tab and select “System Internal user” in drop-down menu.
      5. Find PlexMediaServer user where it was hiding.
      6. Tick Read/Write permission box and click Save
      Thanks WunderTech for the video. It was helpful.

    Everyone in Reddit swears by docker and how great it is, but also all the support questions are related to docker issues. Currently I am running Plex and a couple other media related apps native, don't really need anything else. Is there a big reason why I should move everything over to Docker?

    • @WunderTechTutorials
      @WunderTechTutorials  2 роки тому

      Docker is great because it's portable. Meaning that you can pick up your data and move it to another device extremely efficiently. If you compare that to packages, you'd need to have the experience to find the data you need through SSH, or just start over (not for all packages, but it's just an example).
      At the end of the day, they both function similar (or even the same), so there's not necessarily a right or wrong way of going about it - it's really just personal preference. With that said, there are TONS of Docker containers you can implement on your NAS that do not have packages, so that is a major difference.

    What if user "PlexMediaServer" is not getting created?

      No, unfortunately it doesn't. You'll actually have to manually install them on a NAS, but if I'm being honest, Plex is one of those apps that I just leave running and as long as it works, I'm happy.

    Hey Mr. Tech GOAT... Is there a reason why hardware acceleration doesn't work on this package? Is it because of DSM 7? I hope they have it fixed in the future.

    • @WunderTechTutorials
      @WunderTechTutorials  2 роки тому +1

      I believe that it has something to do with how the device has to be passed to Plex and that Synology doesn't allow it through packages. On the Plex forums, ChuckPa (Plex team member) mentioned that he didn't expect hardware acceleration to ever be supported by the package for this reason (or something like it). Let's hope that that's not the case!

      Plex is entirely free, though there is a "paid" version (Plex pass) where you get additional features. However, none of those features are "needed" and are more "nice to haves".

    In setting up the Libraries and assigned them to a data folder on my Synology NAS, it seems that Plex can only see Shared Folders directly on the Root drive.
    For example, I have a Synology Shared Folder named DATA directly on my root drive. Within the DATA folder I then have subfolders such as MOVIES, TV SHOWS, etc. Plex will only let me add the entire DATA folder itself; I cannot drill down to the subfolders.
    Do I need to move all of the files in my subfolders under DATA, out to the root drive and place them in Synology Shared Folders, in order for Plex to "see" them?
    Thanks for the very helpful presentation! Subscribed.

    • @WunderTechTutorials
      @WunderTechTutorials  Рік тому +1

      You should be able to drill down inside of the DATA folder, but you'll have to give Plex access to the whole DATA folder (unless you're willing to set more granular permissions which might be a pain to deal with).
