If your subfolder is missing like it is in the video, you'll need to configure permissions for the plex account to access your folder.
Synology control panel > Shared Folder > Edit your plex media folder > Permissions > Pick System Internal User from drop down > Grant permissions to PlexMediaServer

Thanks for pointing out that I not only needed the Windows version, I also needed the DSM7 version. I didn't catch that. Once I downloaded the proper version, everything worked.

Is there a way to bring up the set up wizard again? I set up a couple years ago (different NAS, WD PR4100) but now I can't get access to those libraries even though my web access works
Thank you Brian. It would make fascinating and excellent comparison to see the same process on unraid, true bsd, and perhaps a third os that plays well with plex and transcoding.

I just bought a DS223 to replace my older Synology box which died on me after 10 years. It doesn't have PLEX available in the package store. It does have Emby so I'm testing that one.

Would this work if I use an ExpressVPN router I connect to and then have a Synology NAS as well or no? I know ExpressVPN doesn't allow remote access nor single dedicated ip's or port forwarding. Would this effect the remote access on the NAS?

If I have Synology Drive shared folder already is it or to point Plex there? I can move my music to a new folder if not but just wondering.

I'm trying to setup Plex outside my home network, so I installed and everything but since I used quick connect that's ending up being my Plex Url and I can not open the server link? Is there another way to make a Plex server? Best regards CC
Hi i got amd i removed the drivers because i got black screen but whenever i install the amd drivers it says system has a instillation restriction
Just gonna say, plex is awesome, but jellyfin is the FOSS version that I personally use and highly suggest.
I have a DS1521+ running Plex and I have for a long time, everything works great EXCEPT I have a huge movie & TV library. When I get to a point some content won't play even though it shows up in Plex. It all works fine locally and the content is gotten in the same manner as with all the other content. I have checked permissions and they are good and there is no 4K content or anything.
The problem seems to be that Synology has reached a folder search limit. I found the page ages ago, but now that I need to re-run it, I can't find it. I suspect that the new versions are wiping the setting and restoring the value to default.
Any help would be appreciated.

so did they take plex server off? cause i dont see it on mine and every time i try to search for it nothing shows up
I am going back to a PC for a Plex server, Cheaper and more expandability for drives. Synology here is $500+, i can buy a cheap PC for about $100. My WD NAS keeps getting error that the server is not powerful enough, so time to switch them out.

Hi mate, just tried following your instructions and cannot find the Plex app within the Package Center. Are you able to please confirm if your instructions are still valid? Or, has Synology taken the app off the Package Center? I've watched a whole bunch of videos and nothing seems to work... :(

You could run Synology on your own server. I prefer TrueNas
I can't open the server
Followed your steps and they didn’t work for you either. In the video plex is able to see your “Plex Media” folder but it’s not able to see the subdirectory “Movies” and so you simply added Movies to the end of the path which doesn’t work. Because Plex doesn’t see the Movies subdirectory the content stored in there wouldn’t show up on your client running plex.
You didn’t show the video in your movies subdirectory in your video because it wasn’t working properly. I followed this video step by step and mine is responding the same as yours. Plex doesn’t see any of your subdirectories contained in “Plex Media”
To solve that issue, you have to go to the File Station, right-click on the Plex Media folder go to properties, then permissions and add permissions to the plexmediaserver user and it should be able to find it after.
@@maxximux2000 Yep this worked, so some more details on it. Go to File station > click on the media folder you created, in the case above its the "Plex Media" > Right Click > Properties > Permission > Create > Under User Group, Scroll down until you see PlexMediaServer > then just give it all write and read access. and that's it, after that it found the movies i had in the folder.
