    ... and suddenly - in the far corner of The Great Hall - just as Firouza was about to make GENIUS move - he looked up and he saw THE GHOST OF WESLEY SO PAST - shaken to his core - he pulled his hand back and then - and then ............ he moved pawn to g5

  • @zb5775

    Fantastic video as always! This is what puts Magnus Calrsen on a different level from the rest. He never, and never has, blundered in such an appalling way. I have watched pro-chess for awhile now, and Hikaru, Alireza (and others) very typically makes these type of blunders at critical moments. Hikaru eerily made an almost identical mistake with his bishop in the last candidates against Deng Liren, lost the game, and made third place behind Deng's second. Had Hikaru simply drawn that game, he would have played Nepo for the championship as he, not Deng, would have finished second.
    Now back to Magnus: he *never* makes such obvious mistakes. Of course he loses games like every player, but never wins or loses on such amateurish mistakes.

    • @michaelmassaro4375
      @michaelmassaro4375 Місяць тому

      He’s made mistakes too I guess you don’t remember the Rapport game Where Rapport captured a piece and Magnus could not recapture because Rapport would’ve forked Magnus rook and King with his Bishop but for the most part Magnus doesn’t Blunder much because he’s usually ahead as the endgame nears

  • @michaelmassaro4375
    @michaelmassaro4375 Місяць тому

    That was such a Blunder by Alireza but to be fair Hikaru was having an excellent game probably would’ve went on to win anyway he made a blunder himself at one point bringing his Bishop back to make sure the passed pawn didn’t promote but it was definitely unnecessary I’m Rooting for Gukesh he’s had a Great tournament and still has chances to win Thanks for the Recap James Enjoy your day

      If knight captures on e2 directly:
      Rook a2, no fork possible, but knight dead just the same.
      If the fork is played first:
      Bishop forks - king sidesteps - knight captures pawn on e2 - black rook to A2, pinning the knight to the king - what is white's next move? I don't see anything that justifies the inevitable death of the knight.
      Rook from r8 captures knight on e2, the king can't retake and is in check.
      pawn on A5 still protected.
