The Gotway EX was the last of the trio of suspension wheels released in 2020, coming from Gotway I have no doubt that it’ll be the fastest of the three, but when its finally released it will also be the most powerful electric unicycle on the market with a Brand new hollow core 3500 watt motor, which will also be used in the coming monster pro. But beyond the jaw dropping specification, it also represented Gotway’s best attempt at answering the threats coming from the other EUC manufacturers including Veteran, whom are all encroaching on what was once their exclusive domain of high speed wheels. This week I finally get my grubby hands on the Gotway EX, I’ll walk you through eight things you should know about this wheel and give you my first impression of it, are you ready for the most extreme electric unicycle yet? So Micky AKA EVX have had the wheel for the past two weeks and he’s been calling it the EX, as in like the ex wife or girlfriend. Well I am hoping that I’ll have a better time with it than an hanging out with an EX so I think I’ll stick with EX, for now unless it does turned out to be and EX somehow, but lets hope not. Anyhow we’re heading to the group demo for the hands off! Which is always exciting, I am also curious to see what kind of reception the EX will see since for a few reasons I will explain, I am a little bit skeptical as to how successful the launch of this wheel will be. To start lets talk about the elephant in the room, and that is number 1 its Price; The Gotway EX is going to be $3400, that’s right it’ll be a full $700 more than the already expensive Veteran Sherman. Until the release of the Monster pro this will be the most expensive electric unicycle on the market. You are getting an EUC with a specification that is unlike anything else ever sold previously. But, $3400 is still a lot of money to pay for a wheel. I mean that’s like 3 brand new top of the line iPhone! It like hmmm.. New phone for the whole family or the EX for myself? The other factor that would likely impact its sale is number 2 timing;Gotway is notoriously bad with timing the release of their product, it is the end of October now, and going by our typical 3 month wait time on the preorder cycle you’re looking at getting this wheel at best sometime around Christmas,
It's obviously pronounced "X", because like my ex, it looks good, is a pretty good ride, but has some serious issues, and requires an undue amount of maintenance.

That trolley handle alone makes it a no-go for me. The price is so premium, wheel is so heavy, that handle is just straight up unacceptable for that amount of investment.
It is very annoying, but at the same time Gotway has always about the core riding experience and little else. The MSupers all have bad shells, bad trolleys, bad water proofing, but people still love them for the simple reason that nothing can match its performance.

Wow. The EX seems to be a lemon. That price, the bad design, 1200 psi, questionable QC record, weight, other comparable EUCs, trolley handle.....First generation buyer guinea pigs. Motor scooter would be a better choice at that price.

It's weird, all of those issues is true of the Msupers as well but people love that wheel and kept buying it's update. I love the ride on the s18 but I always had be to mindful about speed but not the case with the ex.

BTW, I'm sensing an increasing amount of frustration with GW/Begode coming from NYC...as someone who was about to buy an MSP but ended up waiting and bought a Sherman instead (and would have hated GW for releasing the RS so shortly after if I'd bought the MSP), all I can say is that since GW doesn't listen to their customers, I hope your honest reviews (and other NYC-based UA-camrs) will influence buyers and they might think twice before buying re-freshes and half-assed upgrades, and maybe, just maybe, the company will start to listen once it hurts their pockets. Really, these reviews are doing the community a great service, keep it up!
I definitely see a pretty steep drop in interest for the EX and even if Gotway don't pay attention to us I think the sales number should be pretty alarming to them. I think they get that there's a problem but the question now is really whether or not they are willing to adapt and learn to be more communicative.

Great detailed first impression! looking at the design I get the sense that Gotway was way behind the curve, slapped this together with a massive motor and called it good. This wheel just took the spot of the V11 for my least favorite suspended EUC. Thank you for another amazing video!
Thank you! Gotway wheels always seem more experimental than kingsong or inmotion wheels, but pushing to release 3 new wheels at the same time prob also stretched their capabilities

How is exploring a new type of suspension and not simply copying the competition is a rushed job? If they simply copied other suspension technology from other wheels then that would be rushed, they didn’t.
Maybe because the looks didn’t improve and the preprod demo wheel is not dialed in yet? I somewhat agree with the looks being rushed, since it looks the same as other gotway wheels. But isn’t Iphone and Porsche have the same looks for decades now? They didn’t seem rushed.
Not being dialed in is typical with demo wheels as well. Let’s wait for a production EX wheel to be reviewed IMHO.
I think gotways tendency to forge their own path is both a blessing and a curse. They are not bad engineers and do come up with solid solutions but at the same time, there had been so much advances in suspension design that they are not leveraging due to their inability to look to outside sources.
As the competition for building the next gen EUC heats up we'll see if they can continue to stay relevant.
Best suspension wheel, no debates on that for sure. 🙌🏼

I like Gotway's approach for suspension and I will wait till they roll out a 18 inch economy class for my second EUC.
I am not sure if they ever will, Gotway is always all about pushing the envelope

YEAH! V11 has nothing on this one, poor range for looong rides. If your looking for long range, speed and suspension packed in one wheel then this is the one.
Still not sure about the design but powerpads and some aftermarket aesthetic add ons can make it look better.
well the V11 is probably a lot more practical for day to day use if you commute with one, I had to drag it up 5 flights of stairs yesterday and it damn near killed me.

What's the brand/model of your helmet ? Do you believe that the front piece is enough in case of a face fall ?
check my video description, its quite stiff and although not as good as a full face its much better than not having any protection there!

I would say, that the EX feature a more narrow tire (2.75 inch) than the last wheels fro Gotway (begode).🙏

I use climbing loop sling to comfortly carry EUC upstairs.
And actually this type of handle is where it works best.
But I guess even loop sling is useless for such weight.
I am sure you can make something, like maybe with cargo straps, but it’s annoying needing an accessory just to carry it up stairs!

Shame on Gotway. Planning my next wheel to be a suspension. Loving my MSP for ride for now - but thinking I should have got the KS 16x as I regret trying to trolley the MSP into some place every time. Wishing someone would come up with a good trolley mod for it!

I wouldn't count the EX out just yet, the release is definitely rushed and there are issues but at the same time the combination of speed and suspension is very attractive, supposely Gotway will address some of our complains so we'll see!
Hey. what is your approximate speed when driving in the city?
Usually around 30-35 since thay is the timed speed for traffic light changes on larger avenues, slower when I am on KS wheels
My brother, I have a problem with my scooter gotway ACM 820w . When the speed reaches 45, the alarm goes off and the scooter turns off. Do you have any solution to prevent it from turning off, or a video clip explaining the method, brother?
No mention about how powerpads (or tug pads) are a virtual necessity for this wheel? Or the various tuning issues this wheel has
I think the cost was the major issue since all of those other issues applies to other Gotway wheel also.
Hsaing, great videos. You got me hooked on EUC riding and I bought my Kingsong 16x Thanks to your review. And I still love it! I have no envy for the EX or the Sherman, though. Their size and speed are taking EUC riding out of the "Fun zone" and into the motor vehicle zone. Licence, tax, registration, INSURANCE PAYMENTS?! No thank you. Keep my EUC under 30 mph so I can stay on the bike paths and sidewalks and away from crazy drivers.
I feel like people's appetite for speed increases the more experience they have, it's like snowboarding where ppl start riding those steep/fast black diamond trails after a few years of experience
@@OWGAC I appreciate that haven ridden motorcycles myself. Here in Florida, though, the legal capable speed of PEVs is 30 mph. Anything at that speed or below can travel the sidewalks and bike paths. any vehicle capable of higher speeds must use the travel lanes of the roads. I cringe at the thought of a 50 mph collision between a EUC and a pedestrian on a sidewalk . I Don't want to be a wet blanket here. I just want everyone to have fun and be safe. And keep the law on our side.
I think that this is a great design, it is simple, looking at this i feel that I could take that apart and reassemble again, this is not the case with the V11, could you do a video showing a full tear down?
I do have more videos of me taking it apart and it's not hard to do, which is one of the main advantage of Gotway wheel. Problem is that you sort of have to because of their poor qc and need for maintenance. I may show more of the tear down clips but it's pretty boring 😃
Have the money but my just stick to getting someth like RS or even MV3 for around the same price.

I am proud of the EUC companies technological efforts this year, even with questionable designs. The EUC 2020 upgrades are the most underrated in the transport industry. I am anticipating 2021 to be even better than 2020. My piggy bank will be prepared for the upcoming onslaught of jaw dropping tech.

Sort of think so because their products are well polished and thought through.
But for the V11 to win the suspension category, they need to improve the speed and range IMHO.
They did well with the V11, but they also need to up their production QC as there are still more day one issues than there should. also the long wait just to get one sucks also!

I passed 300km mark on my Ex, and I'm not eager to go back to any unicycle without suspension now.

@@OWGAC I have some kind of oscillation close to max speed, a minor one.
Also the tire on my Ex deformed and I had to deflate it and correct it manually, slowly rotating and checking clearance.

Gotway has always pushed to maximize performance while ignoring most other things and since people keep buying their wheel they probably figure it was a fine way to operate, things may be a bit different now because of competition

Great video, as usual. But no way am I going to spend that much money. These companies are going to price themselves out of business if they continue to make their EUC’s less affordable as people have less money.
I can't really tell, I thought ppl wouldn't buy the sherman because it's price but turn out there are lots of ppl whom are willing to spend $2700 so what's another few hundred? Honestly compare to things like motorcycles euc are still not that expensive.

Everything looks super heavy duty and over engineered so I dont think it'll fail. Buuut the home bre approach Gotway took can't match he effectiveness of something like the s18 which is based on tried and true design from mountain bike suspension design
For $3,400, I think I’d rather buy a Super 73 RX or Lacroix Nazare, if we’re talking PEVs. At least then you get good support!
I would love to have any of those except that they aren’t very practical in NYC since many places won’t let you bring them indoor and bike thief is so rampant that you can’t lock them out either.

@@OWGAC good point actually... for something you pay so much money for, it should be expected to have some sort of security like a keyless proximity fob you keep in your pocket, so if the EUC is moved when you’re not there it screams a loud siren, or explodes into flames...

They barely marketed this wheel, but this is no surprise. Same with other wheels they released previously, almost zero marketing.
I doubt there's even a "marketing engineer" at Gotway, they have sales ppl that takes orders but that's about it.
Great stuff Hsiang ... so let me throw this out there ... why isn't there any US or Canadian or UK manufacturers of these wheels? It's obvious that this community is growing globally and with the ever increasing political friction between a certain two countries, I wonder if a ban on these products could happen at some point down the road? .... But besides that possibility, surely there must be some engineers out there contemplating a new start up business in this space? ... and don't call me shirley! :-)
Those wheels are still a niche product and basically hand assembled. A wheel made in the US, Canada or the UK would be at least twice as expensive as a Chinese made one, and it would still contain many parts made in China, like the motor and the battery as the most expensive parts.
@@BlackTalon53 - good point - Any domestic product would have to be competitive in pricing or they would have no sales & no company for long - let's see if any competition arises in the next 6 months to a year from the home-grown entrepreneurs out there ... 4 overseas companies, Gotway, Kingsong, InMotion and Veteran can't have 100% of this market for long can they?
Issue is IP, someone owns the patent on EUCs and will sue anyone who try to build them in the us

Believe me or not here it will be 4200€ (1€ = 0.90$) xDDD bullshit! that trolley handle, sit, voltage screeen XDDD etc oh lord that wheel is a joke lol They keep thinking speed will do everything but but but 1/ v11 and s18 are already on the market and getting better, money does not grow on trees 2/ general ergonomy of this wheel sucks, i mean it's the worst i've seen till now :O 3/ so heavy for 39 to 45mph meeh 4/hollow core ==> see v11 bearing (early reviews) 5/do i have to go deep on the suspension subject ? Ppl love speed, even though 90% of the ppl won't drive a Porsche anywhere close to what it's capable of, they are willing to pay the premium for the idea of it. And Gotway very much lives in the same area

I thought about this but problem is that money and worth is super subjective. $3k is not cheap but people whom ride motorcycles easily spend 10x that on a high-end bike so it's all relative.

All wheels are so overpriced. The manufacturers are squeezing out as much profit as they can from these machines. After all, they will charge as much as people are willing to pay. I am giving up on the hope to replace my Inmotion V8. At these prices it simply isn’t possible. They’ve priced me out of the market. If this is where the future lay, I no longer want one. The quality isn’t there to even come close to justify the price on this one.
Maybe look for a used wheel? So many people are eager to jump on the latest and greatest means that you can probably pick up a reliable used EUC for a decent discount?
