I think that you men need to realize that in this video Grand Master Norris is 74 YEARS OLD! He is fatigued from Working Out and obviously winded, yet he can still do pretty well considering these facts. Now if he can do this at 74 years old can you imagine the physical Destruction that he could have unleashed at let us say 34 years old? Back when he was a professional competitive fighter he had Blackbelts in Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon Do and Judo so he knew how to Strike and he knew how to Grapple and was already doing Mixed Martial Arts by the late 1960's. Master Norris and his very good friend Master Bruce Lee were more than 30 years ahead of their time. These great men were already training in MMA style in the 1960's when no else would have even considered it. For 6 years Chuck Norris was the World Middleweight Karate Champion and unlike the MMA fighters of today he basically had to fight his entire weight class in one night because of the tournament style rules. Something else that the MMA fighters of today don't have to deal with is the fact that Chuck had to fight and defeat the Heavyweight Champion of the Tournament to receive the Top Honors of being the Grand Champion in some of these Tournaments. In 1990 at 50 years of age, Chuck Norris was the 1st Westerner(White Man) in history to achieve the rank of 8th Degree Black Belt Grandmaster. Master Chuck Norris has more than earned all of our respect.

Everyone griping and complaining, "Bruce would have beat Chuck!!! He was faster and Jeet Kune Do is better!" "Chuck would have beaten Bruce!!! He was a full-contact champion and Kickboxing is better!". I think Bruce and Chuck would be embarrassed by such attitudes. Chuck and Bruce were FRIENDS. They learned a lot from each other, tremendously. Chuck was a full-contact Karate competitior (AKA, American Kickboxing), he had the Professional Middleweight Karate champion title, which he held for six consecutive years. He had only ten losses his entire martial arts career, he avenged all ten losses. He also had a black belt in Tang So Do and was the 1st Westerner to get 8th Degree black belt in Taekwondo history, he also had his black belt in Judo and won the U.S. Air Force Judo Championship, meaning he was a proficient grappler and striker before he ever met Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee was a practitioner of Wing Chun and Jun Fan, he was blazing fast and combined the two into Jeet Kune Do, won some no-rules fights. Not THAT many but he was feared and respected for his precision, speed and ability, all before he met Chuck Norris. When the two met, Chuck impressed on Bruce Lee the effectiveness of grappling as a fighting style so much that Bruce was getting into Judo on his own before he died, as well as how powerful his kicks could be. Bruce impressed Chuck with his incredible abilities and no-rules experience and fighting method to the point that Chuck borrowed from it. Jeet Kune Do has influence from Chuck Norris and Chun Kuk Do has influence from Bruce Lee. BOTH fighters and their fighting styles grew stronger from the experience. They didn't fight because they never wanted to take it there because they both knew, no matter WHICH one came out on top, it would be a career-ending fight that would leave both injured. And they cared too much about each other to go that far. I love BOTH martial artists, I consider them BOTH legends and quite frankly, I neither know nor care about who would win. I'm too busy learning from both their examples. Something I think they'd appreciate more than fanboys throwing fits about who they think in their imaginations would win.

I roll my eyes at the countless trolls on this video. Chuck Norris is one of the worlds best martial artists and has accomplished a ton. In his younger years he moved extremely fast and was in incredible shape. Have you seen older videos of Helio Gracie? Did he move perfectly and fast? NO! HE WAS OLDER! Chuck is 74 and he is still training and can hit hard.
His close the gap 2 punch combo is a very effective technique for self defense, and in sport karate back in the day it scored points. The karate tournaments back then were a lot more hardcore and had hard impact unlike the ISKA touch crap you see today. No gloves and a distraction shot to the face and a hard punch to the solar plexus would stop the average attacker on the streets.
Everyones body fials, everyones joints slow up you cannot expect someone to remain a 25 year old powerful athlete at age 74.
Grandmaster Norris is someone all true martial artists should show respect for.

Thats because back then only whites were shown to be great and starred on big screens as the best (which is false) but in reality a lot of other people in different races were way better than what white people thought of themselves back then. He might of been fast for the rest of you stiff white folks but when bruce lee came lol.. bruce lee broke that notion along with chuck chest hair.

I worked out with Chuck and his brother Aaron at his Virginia Beach studio around 1978-79 (I was a student instructor at the time) and his endurance was incredible. About 6 of us worked out for about 2 hours, and the rest of us were all whipped, and Chuck says "I'm going next door to Nautilus to do some weight work". Yea, in his prime he was something to watch. Oh, and he was filming a movie with David Carradine at the time, and I asked him who wins in the movie, and he says "well, it's my movie!".

I think a lot of you are getting something confused... There is a massive difference in fighting to 'win' and fighting to survive. There are probably unheard of martial arts practitioners that would literally kill a cage fighter in the streets if the circumstances somehow favored that situation. I personally don't see two well discipline martial artists just randomly having a death battle after seeing each other for the first time, but I digress. You can't always assume because someone won a lot of heavily regulated matches that they'll be the winner. You can't knife hand someone in the throat or run your thumb through their eye in a cage or mat. If you're comparing skill Bruce has Chuck beat, but Chuck has a shit load of 'experience' in competition. Another thing to keep in mind is that these guys were good friends. So an all out last man standing type fight would probably never even cross their minds. I've studied martial arts my entire life and I've sparred with skilled martial artists. I've also never had an actual 'fight' with a martial artist. I understand that cage fighters make a living that way, but other than that, true martial artists don't go looking to start fights. Even then, your average mma fighter is probably the nicest, fun loving person outside the ring. I highly doubt that it would have ever come to a situation where we would truly know who would win in a fight between these two. Real fights have no rules, time limits, refs, most don't have hysterical people screaming in the background and no one gets paid for getting/receiving an ass beating. As I said though, Bruce does have Chuck on skill and physical ability. Chuck is accustomed to rules, but I would be a liar if I didn't say that Bruce would win in that scenario. At least in my humble opinion as a random guy watching videos on youtube.

There's a saying that a skilled street fighter will beat a skilled martial artist almost every time in an actual fight because when you fight in martial arts you are always pulling your blows so you don't really hurt the other person whereas in a street fight your aim is to beat the he'll out of the opponent as fast as possible and rules don't matter.

    • @FidelTshivhasa
      @FidelTshivhasa 8 років тому +3

John Smith It's often true. I've noticed myself in the same attitude and realised that if I'm in that situation, I have to absolutely hate the other guy to an extent that I have to want to hurt him bad. Often, martial artists don't have that kind of resolve, probably because of the disciplined mentality we're raised with.

      @RobsterRulzDude0518 10 років тому +78

Once again,Bruce didnt whoop Chuck. Going by a movie is so childish and presuming. "Movies can show anyone whooping anyone's ass". Its called Choreography, and fantasy as well. Look at Uma Thurmann in the Kill Bill flix, according to those movies, she can beat up 50 samurai's simultaneously, but in real life, she freaked out and immedietely contacted authorities when there was but one person stalking her. If she was anything remotely close to what she was in Kill Bill flix, she would've promptly taken on that one mere stalker and disposed of him.

Do you seriously think a perfectionist like Bruce Lee would have cast a "stiff", poor martial artist as his ultimate nemesis? Lee has cast legends like Ji Han Jae in his films. If Norris hadn't measured up, do you really think Lee would have given him the shot?
Chuck Norris deserves respect. Lee respected him -- that tells you everything.

Chuck had his chance and didn't have it but bruce sure did. But what you white folks have to ask yall selves is this who was the mentor of who again?? Oh yeah bruce lee was the mentor of chuck norris and was was named the godfarther of mma? mmm was it chuck old country stiff ass? mmm no.. oh yeah it was BRUCE LEE!

I don't know where you came from. But as a Chinese citizen(who does admire Bruce), I just think Bruce's "Jeet Kune Do" should not be overstated(Everyone Chinese Wing Chun fan knows how Bruce combined it with the modern boxing). If you wanna know how did Jackie Chan described Bruce Lee, open this Chinese news (ent.ifeng.com/entvideo/detail_2012_12/13/20126562_3.shtml).

When I went home, I held my head higher & was the talk of the town. It helped business & I've always admired him for that. Back in the 70s, I went with my Dad, when he armwrestled Chuck in Breaker Breaker. He asked me to be an extra. I'm the 20yr old kid, in the Chef's hat.

Don Rabbit I would agree. Without Lee and his movies, we may never have heard of Norris. Yet you never really hear Norris giving Lee the credit he deserves. And in an arena where "honor" and "respect" are greatly talked about, I see no honor on Noriss' behalf towards Bruce Lee. Lee is who really gave the martial arts the place and respect it rightfully deserves. Maybe there is a clip out there somewhere of Norris giving honor and respect to Lee, but if there is - I've never seen or heard of it.

Bruce Lee NEVER beat Chuck Norris in a real competition, that is just an internet legend. He only fought him in movies..BRUCE LEE movies so he always won...how is that fair? Bruce Lee never took on Chuck Norris in a real karate tournament or even in a Chuck Norris movie. Only in a Bruce Lee movie where he knew he could convince the script writers to let him win and make him look dominant because the HERO has to win right and if you are the STAR you are the hero. It doesn't matter that he never defeated his opponent in a fair fight. Chuck Norris got robbed and Bruce Lee gets all the glory today and people saying he is better than Chuck Norris when he didn't EARN IT he just went to some script writer and said "hey pal make me win or you are FIRED off this movie!" what's the dude going to do, go against the star and get fired???? No way. Which is why Bruce Lee won the fight. End of story.

Bruce Lee went to the script writer and said ' Hey Pal make me win or you are fired" ARE YOU FOR REAL??? It was a movie for F@#@s sake and as Norris said he was helping out a friend, just like Lee would of done for Norris if he asked him to be in one of his movies. And there is your ignorance diplayed, because you had no idea Bruce Lee actually was the script writer for that movie. Why would Lee want to fight Norris in a real fight, they were friends and had mutual respect for each others ability. They had nothing to prove, they were both great fighters in their own right. My opinion, and its only my opinion, if you watch the 2 of them in Way of the Dragon on film, it is clear that Lee is much faster and a lot more flexible and lighter on his feet. I believe Lee would of been to quick for Norris and would be the superior fighter.

Bruce was on a higher level than most men ever, not just in fighting, he was philosopher and very wise man. They are not in the same league, if they where to fight for real, Bruce would rip him apart, and i mean NO tournament crap, that's just sport, REAL fight is something different and Bruce was real fighter, that is wide known, you can check his background and see it. He didn't fight for sports.

Aside from the fact that Bruce Lee was superhuman and his reflexes and speed were unmatched by anything in this world, I'll compare them: from 1968 to 1974, Norris was by his own declaration a “world middleweight karate champion”. This is taking Norris entirely at his word, mind you. Others have had difficulty in verifying his story on this point. But what all informed commentators agree on is the fact that Norris was competing in point karate, rather than in full-contact Karate. In other words, Norris was a champion in a style of Karate in which you could be penalised for hitting someone with full force. To my way of thinking, this is no different to being declared a champion of doing Kata; while it may be a rewarding pursuit for other reasons, say… fitness and health reasons, it tells you nothing about whether the champion in question can actually fight.
Bruce Lee did not compete a lot, but it is known that he won a Hong Kong Boxing championship and after all, a single full-contact boxing match tells you more about a person’s ability to actually fight than any number of non-contact competitions could, whether they allow kicking or not.
Dan Inosanto states that Lee was also particularly good at integrating his striking and grappling game, in a way that was rare at the time:
“One of the things that made him [Lee] unique was his ability to move from kicking range to punching range to trapping range to grappling range. At that time, most martial artists really shined in one particular range. If you kicked, you didn’t punch or grapple much. If you punched, you didn’t kick or grapple much. And if you grappled, you didn’t have the same skill level in striking. Sifu Bruce was way ahead of his time in how he was training himself and his students to be adept at bridging the gap between ranges.”- Dan Inosanto
    (www.alivenotdead.com/GUNGFUBEN/Jeet-Kune-Do-Grappling-Dan-Inosanto-Talks-About-Bruce-Lee-s-Ground-Fighting-profile-1412960.html)
Lee started training in submission grappling by 1967, with the legendary “Judo” Gene LeBell, a generally acknowledged master of Judo ne-waza and Catch Wrestling.
    - To contrast, while Chuck Norris did study Judo when he was in the army, though far less intensively than he studied Tae Kwan Do, he apparently only gave serious thought to studying submission grappling in 1982, when he first encountered the Gracie family in Brazil.
In terms of physical attributes and conditioning, reports indicate that Bruce Lee was 5’7″ and weighed as little as 135lb, whereas Norris was 5’10” and weighed 160lb during his competitive career. Norris would have enjoyed both a weight and reach advantage over his smaller adversary. However, Lee was famous for innovating new training methods and conditioning himself physically to a level associated only with top athletes. From two-finger pushups to a ridiculous degree of static strength, Lee seems to have exemplified a philosophy of training which was well ahead of its time. No similar stories concerning Norris have surfaced.
Essentially, what we have here is a fight between the following two men:
Lee, a combatant who had trained in striking styles all his life, and had success in striking at a full-contact competitive level (albeit a small amateur level), who also studied submission grappling with one of the godfathers of the art, who had an affinity for blending his stand-up and grappling styles in a way that was ahead of his time, and had trained his body to a level commensurate with high-level athletic ability.
Norris, a man who had- at the point at which Lee and he met- only focussed on Tae Kwon Do/Karate with a small sideline in Judo, but apparently had limited knowledge of submission grappling and had only ever competed in point karate tournaments.
On the basis of this information, I suggest that an actual fight between these two men might go very roughly the same way as the movie fight scene from "The Way of the Dragon", regardless of how great Chuck thinks he is.
Chuck Norris is a pretty obnoxious person in general actually. As well as being something of a right-wing jingoist, stupid conspiracy theorist, hater of the gay folk, and hyper-religious nutjob, as we can see from many interviews he constantly bigs himself up to a level that even Steven Seagal would be proud of. Norris is no more a fighter than Seagal, even though he may be more of a martial artist.
The plain fact of the matter though, is that Bruce Lee is an inspiration to millions, and his impact can be felt in the way that martial arts are practiced in a more combative and practical way these days, to the way that action is filmed in movies, to the way that Asian men and women are no longer portrayed only as dishwashers and rickshaw drivers in film. He’s won the moral battle against people like Chuck Norris, who despite the appearance of philanthropy, are actually peddling exceptionalism, nationalism, exclusionism and martial fakery to the masses.
Bruce Lee was more moral than Chuck Norris, more intelligent than Chuck Norris, had a better real fighting record than Chuck Norris (the little there was of it), and frankly would have beat Chuck Norris in a fight. My money would have been on him.
End of story, it's pretty clear stupid people only like Chuck Norris because he is an uneducated, stereotypical ultra-religious American redneck, while Bruce Lee was an atheist, a thinker and a genius of martial arts and philosophy with a far-eastern background.

I agree with all of your very valid points.... Most casual onlookers truly dont understand Bruce for what he was and represented. Bruce's motivations were very unique, and ambitious. His continuous drive and passion to destroy and rebuild himself not only physically but mentally is mostly what made him so dangerous. He wasn't just an athletic person with a hollywood smile. He was the whole package who took his art very seriously. He didnt get into film to become rich and famous he got into film to teach the world on a grand stage.
Many ignoramuses generalize Bruce like they do someone like Bob Marley. A weed smoking Rasta, A mythological movie martial artist.
Bruce pushed himself to limits that todays typical human only aspire too.... the kind of training you imagine yourself doing but once engaged you realize (Ok uh tommorrows another day or, let me go shopping) The difference was Bruce's passion and ambition he had a rare recipe in play.....
