Funny thing. Just this week I went to dollar tree and picked up a few Christmas mugs and a few of their hot cocoa bombs and a pkg of candy cane's. I got it home and was planning to give these to a few neighbors. They looked so tacky, and I was trying to figure out how to make it look so much better. You just solved my problem. Thank you.
At home I just mix the powdered milk & coco & add the sweetner with each cup I make. I just use a spoon to mix it. I am very happy to have the proportions for gifting it though! Thank you! ❤
I think these are awesome gifts. I love giving and receiving home made gifts much nicer than something bought for me. It just shows that someone is thinking about me and vice versa. Thanks for your videos.
Ok, I'm enjoying you, your voice and spunky personality sooooo much.....that I'm now playing your videos in the background. Like, while I'm baking! OMgosh 😆. It's like having a friend over to visit ❤
I just found your channel. I love that you are a REAL human and not trying to be perfect because none are (but one). This is a wonderful video and I'm looking to seek out others. Thank you and have a wonderful Thanksgiving ❤
I am going to try your recipe. Love your ideas. I think I will do a Ball jar of cocoa mix, a spice jar of marshmallows, AND a spice jar of crushed candy canes. Those would go great in my advent calendars next year.
Thank you for the ideas! Love the office one! I’ll make a bunch for the office. Everyone has their own mug & we can get the hot water from the kurieg. I’ll make up a big batch & everyone can help themselves to the individual jars. I’ll put them in a big basket.
@ I think so too! I might make up a couple of the sugar mixes as well to add as a flavored sugar for the coffee station. Thank you so much! I’m so glad I found your channel!
Thanks for the gift ideas going to have my grandkids make this for there teachers gifts with the marshmallows and Epson salt air freshener that you made
I've made hot cocoa from scratch for years. I recently made the mix and was pretty disappointed. Flat flavor. After adjusting and tasting I realized what was missing. VANILLA!!!! Amazon has powdered vanilla. It makes all the difference in the world!!!!!
You can make your own vanilla powder as well. In the oven for 1 hour @170 to dry the beans, let cool completely as they will become more brittle as they cool. Use a spice or coffee grinder and store in an air tight jar. 4 beans = 2 TBS. Use 1/2 tsp of powder for each tsp of extract/paste.
This year Im gifting my homemade vanilla and my homemade I call it Cinnamon Raisin Craisin Bread with a food gift card from local restaurant, love the hot chocolate idea with the cookies gonna have to do that one, Love your videos
Oh, honey, my mom used to mix the best. We went camping a lot and we LOVED that cocoa!!! I have no excuse to be buying weak substitutes in little packets. I need to make a batch! Good blender/mixer (ninja) check. Dutch cocoa powder. (I lived near hershey pa..I'll buy the other one) NIDO! Yes; I have used it since living in Southern California. I have the next stage up. (Elderly and anemic) Pinch of salt. Arrowroot? Okay. I like to use NIDO for creamer; you have to mix it with COLD water; then store in fridge so the proteins don't congeal in the hot coffee. I'm a big fan of "random gifting" to people who just look like they need a smile. That's cheap enough to randomly give. Oh I gift neighbors, family, delivery people, any person whose existence assists my own. Tiny little wooden spoons and dried marshmallows on top? Chef's kiss. Thank ou! For the nostalia AND the last minute idea!
This is Fantastic!! I will definitely do this for my gift giving. I for one would love to get 2 of your egg baskets They are so cute. Thank you for all your amazing ideas you share with us. ❤😊
Dutch processed cocoa has potassium carbonate added which reduces the acidity and makes the cocoa less bitter and gives it a darker color. I love homemade hot cocoa.
I used to make this 40 years ago when my son was small. I haven't been able to find any of the quick mix recipes. I just made this. I make a sweetener called Healthy Sweet™. I used that instead of sugar and everything else was the same. I did not add vanilla powder or whatever. I followed the recipe exactly. I don't know your first name, but little hill, this is awesome! It's actually a little bit too sweet so I'll cut back on my sweetener. Let me know if anybody wants to know the ingredients
For thos little, individual jars I would vacuum seal them before gifting. It will prevet accidetal spills and might make your co-worker feel a little safer. People can be weird.
I just finished the richest (Ghirardelli dutched) cup of cocoa I've had since squaw valley, 2013 with the man I was deeply in love with at the time. I will add a smidge of coffee powder next time like the other poster said, cinnamon & maybe some other flavoring to individual cups. Thank you thank you Ali. It soothed the cranky beast within me. 🙂
Adorable!!! Love and use the recipe!!!! Need to try to find the mini marshmallow too !! My kids love hot cocoa!!! This will definitely help!! Also I can make extra so they can take it back w them to their homes !!!! Great gifts for extended family members to when you go to their homes during the holidays!!! Thank you !!!

I loved your ideas. I have made my own cocoa mix for many years. I had never thought to make it as a gift, but I love the idea. Your video got me thinking, where you added a spoon to the big cocoa pack, for the ones with a mug, a hand made chocolate spoon would be a great addition (teaspoons are quite inexpensive, get a nice chocolate and melt it in a bowl over boiling water, once melted take a teaspoon and dip the spoon in it up to the stem, dipping it in the chocolate several times so it is quite thick, allowing it to cool in between each dip, wrap the cooled chocolate spoon in a bit of cling film with a little red ribbon tied in a bow to keep the cling film on and to make it pretty). I always add real grated chocolate to cocoa mix as it adds a bit more depth and luxury to the cocoa. By adding a chocolate spoon, they would get that real chocolate hit without it being in the actual mix. Another addition with the mug (as suggested by hubby who is home from work with man flu and listening to what I am watching), add a big candy cane or his personal preference, one of the thick candy cane sticks. 😊. I am an American living in Scotland, and it is difficult to get candy canes inexpensively as we have them back home in the US, so my family send an xmas care package as soon as things get into the shops so we are ready for the holidays and he is Scottish and had never had a peppermint candy cane with his cocoa and it blew his mind the first year we were together and that is his chosen accompaniment, he doesn’t mind marshmallows, but woe betide if I don’t have a candy cane for him to stir the cocoa lol. 😂
@LittleHillHomesteadGa I forgot to mention. I lost a lot of my smell/ taste after covid & waited to hear of the zinc helped you. I already took zinc before and it didn't help me either.
Oh, I just bought a can of hot chocolate a few days ago. When I’m out I’ll be making this. I found the Nico powdered milk at my local Walmart in the infant section, behind locked doors which was weird.
One of the true tasty pleasures in life is hot chocolate made from the recipe on the Hershey's cocoa can (and the cake and frosting recipes on there!) Made with whole milk...with real heavy cream whipped....'scuse me....I went away there for a minute! I have made hot cocoa mix - for myself and as a gift. Also delicious. Want to take it to another level? OMG - dehydrate your own mini marshmallows. I can't even describe how much I love dehydrated marshmallows. They crunch when you eat them. They don't get sticky in the bag, so last a long time. I haven't done this, but other people have speared them on little wooden skewers, dried them, rolled them in melted chocolate, with sprinkles, used them to stir the hot chocolate. Seriously, Nutella and dehydrated marshmallows are so delicious that: 1) I don't dare buy Nutella anymore, and 2) I hide the dehydrated marshmallows from myself sometimes. I don't drink, don't do drugs, don't have a bad habit of spending too much money, etc., but there are a couple food things that I can't resist. Edited to add: My husband drives a motorcoach, and sometimes takes people to Hershey park, where there is a store (among other things to do), and he calls me from there and brings home bags of goodies. Hershey is also very nice to the bus drivers, they have a pass and a place to sit that's just for them, air conditioned, etc.
Great idea. I also love making these gift baskets. I layer crushed candy canes in-between the coco mix. Kids love it and the parents can splash peppermint schnapps in there's 😂🎉. Love your videos ❤️

I've known the sugar-in-blender trick for a long time. But the resulting powdered sugar seems to me to have a bit of a different flavor than the purchased powdered sugar. Is there an ingredient in the purchased version we don't know about? Also, do you have a recipe for those onions to top a green bean casserole?
@BluSkyeHost try homemade onion strings from An Affair from the Heart. I think my husband and I ended up snacking on them instead of using them on our casserole.
@@BluSkyeHost no actually that's a homepage blog page. Idk what to call it. I just search whatever, look at the pics and reviews and try the recipe. If I don't like something, I look for it at most 2 more times and then pick my favorite. That's what I did for my fudge brownie recipe.
We reuse packaging all the time. We fill it with stuff that’s homemade or from places like Azure. We love the packages since they work in use them over and over to reduce waste
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa Sorry - I thought I heard you say you got it from Azure Standard. I tried finding the Amish store but didn't have much luck. (I found furniture stores.) Do you have a link for the Amish store?
I don't like the slimy mouth feel using corn starch or arrow root powder in cocoa mix, that is one reason I make my own mix, before packaged cocoa mixes was always just sugar salt cocoa and milk
I love to add just a little bit of instant coffee or espresso powder to my hot cocoa mix. It really makes the Chocolate stronger.

What would be the amount of sugar if you are using stevia??
Also can you suggest a way of making it dairy free my daughter in law can't have dairy
You can use powdered milk of any non dairy kind or non dairy creamer works too.
I’d do half the amount of sugar and add more if needed.

I know some companies add cornstarch. I haven’t tried the crunch onions but I should! Great idea.
@BluSkyeHost try homemade onion strings from An Affair from the Heart. I think my husband and I ended up snacking on them instead of using them on our casserole.
@@angtrilog I assume that's a UA-cam channel? I'd snack on them, too, or use on salads.
@@BluSkyeHost no actually that's a homepage blog page. Idk what to call it. I just search whatever, look at the pics and reviews and try the recipe. If I don't like something, I look for it at most 2 more times and then pick my favorite. That's what I did for my fudge brownie recipe.
@@angtrilog Website is the word. Did you get your fudge browinie recipe from that site?
I had a friend who had kids I made them up some hot chocolate mix and they were just not interested in it at all so I stopped making it.
Bummer
seen Nestle on the kitchen counter''GAUD''toxic.
We reuse packaging all the time. We fill it with stuff that’s homemade or from places like Azure. We love the packages since they work in use them over and over to reduce waste
Azure Standard 1 pound bag of cocoa is not $5. It’s spendy at $12.89!
It isn't cheap. We get it from an Amish store to make it lower cost. I do use the Azure as well, but I love the Amish dutch one better.
I don’t like it when people stock their fingers in their mouth to spit on their fingers to to separate papers, ESPECIALLY for food gifts 🙄
I understand. My bad!
