She may sound like Karen Carpenter at times but there is so much more to Rumer than anyone has yet seen. She is such a wonderful person who cares about others, she is beautiful inside and out. She has been writing songs, performing and entertaining for such a long time, finally her talent is being appreciated. Go girl be happy!!
wow!! What a Stunning tune !! It's drivin' me crazy.. who did this tune previously, like back in the 60's-70's??..ANYbody ?? Rumer is a TOtal breath of fresh air.. she is the best female vocalist I have heard in a LOnnng time... just .. BEAUtiful...
"We" always compare with others...its a point of reference. Nobody is saying she is better than KC. Just that she has a voice that has that same quality, quiet power and control and a gorgeously smooth delivery of each note and perfect pitch, like KC had. Its just a high form of praise... but she's Rumer alright. Outstanding
Even Rumer herself acknowledges the similarities in her's and Karen's voice, especially in the lower register. The arrangements, the vocal harmonies, are very much in their style. But Rumer does give her own stamp, plus she writes her own material, which Karen didn't. I've listened to Carpenters CDs for years and I can hear their influences very strongly in Rumer's recordings. And that is not a criticism at all - Rumour is amazing and the most exciting voice I've heard since Eva Cassidy!!
she has a Judy Collins laissez faire quality here, but ultimately she sounds like Rumer! Really Love this New Talent...nice to hear some quality music for a change!
I have been an avid Carpenters fan since way back in 1975 being a fan of that overdub crisp clear and rich tone and was keen to hear Rumer since the interview. This track sounds very much like a very young KC heard on Ticket to Ride album from 1969. This song does remind me abit of Rainy Days and Mondays. We could all be so critical whether she does emulate KC but what I can say is this track is superb and a pleasure to listen too. Tommorow I will by this cd. Wonder what RC would think ?
i never grow tired of your voice, you are a truly remarkable vocalist, and the best thing to happen since the loss of Karen Carpenter.absolutely brilliant!!!
@andyj0703 When I first heard Rumer's voice on "Alfie", I was reminded of Karen Carpenter's clear, crystal voice with Dusty Springfield's intonations. Unlike the distinctive deep, rich, intimate, mature voice that Karen was known for, Rumer sings in higher registers, sounds more remote/distant, projects a more limited emotional/dynamic range, and paces slowly and timidly as if she were practicing her enunciation exercises. For these reasons, the reverse of your analogy is correct.
I just recently started to listen to Rumor. She's fantastic. I don't compare her to anybody. She's herself and has a style of her own, And Everybody knows who I'm talking about lol. Peace Everybody
Love it..such classiness to your style of singing..it's saturday morning here in Vancouver,Canada and listening to your voice that You made my day..Thank so much for sharing ...
Love this cover! This is one of the first songs I have recollection of when I was little (by the Sandpipers). Also love the classical intro and outro. Nice touch!
Genius singing, exelent choice of songs and great respekt of the craftmanship of the art of making outstanding records. It even sonds great on my crappy pc speakers which you definitely cant say about the average records today. I am a big fan of the singer and the rest of the recording and postproduction team. Masterfonic Mastering, Norway
it is no insult to be compared to KC? Who on earth could complain about that. I also hear Dusty springfield and Tracy Thorne in there too. Given her range and midpoint (where the voice naturally sits) and the clean clear direct delivery, she is going to sound somewhat like the very few others with her amount of talent.
To Shamanigans: It's the tone, sound, and range of her voice that people are reminded of Karen Carpenter....Rumer is great by her own right! Agreed! I can't stop listening to her but the fact remains that "after she got signed to Atlantic Records last May, her label 'made a concerted effort' to get her music to one of the tiffany names in pop: Burt Bacharach.sought Rumer to sing his songs." (Look up NY daily news article on this)
this isn't a beach boys song btw, warmth of the sun is, which is part of the EP package. as it says above, this is from the soundtrack of the 1969 film the sterile cuckoo, and was performed by the sandpipers. tony bennett and scott walker have covered it too. very nice indeed but certainly not 'one of their (the beach boys) lesser known songs'
@Shamanigans when tallent comes along like this, people cant help but compare. i'm sure karen was compared when the carpenters broke on the scene. but like you say,...........she's rumer, and a bloody good singer/songwriter she is aswell.
The is an old song by the Sandpipers. Yes she sounds like Karen Carpenter. Karen Carpenter was an outstanding vocalist who sang with emotion. There is no shame in being compared to one of the most under rated singers of my era. Best to her.
What is epic about Rumer is she changed her voice to suit the song. Some songs are more Astrud Gilberto, some more Anne Murray, and of course, the Karen Carpenter voice. But if you listen to her latest album Into Colour, she seems to have found her own voice...for example, the songs "Better Place" and "Butterfly."
PLEASE MR.RICHARD CARPENTER, listen to RUMER!!!! im sure you 2 would make the best album in the last years, it would be a hit. NO ONE will ever replace KAREN!! but RUMER is very reminiscent of her in her style and feeling!!!
Awesome, too, that she is connected to Carly Simon/James Taylor through son Ben. Love her singing! Keep it coming Rumer! Unfortunately .....cannot "like" this song due to incorrect grammar! "Just I and my friend?" really? And everyone I'm sure I have grammatical errors but when it plays over and over....annoying!
@andyj0703 I don't know how you can put Karen down. They are both wonderful singers in their own right. Karen's voice carried a lot of emotion and pain.
AnEclecticmusicFan; Couldn't disagree more with your view of the Beach Boys lyrics, they were mostly very overated. This is a beautifully sung version of one of their lesser known songs, loved it by Rumer.
I'm not really hearing that. Astrid almost never used a vibrato. But I can understand that you may be referring to the fact that she sings within herself and remains somewhat restrained, never reaching beyond her range.
The cream-like quality of her voice is suited to slow tempos, but I'd like to hear her with more sympathetic arrangements: reduce or mute the drums, and the backing with longer note values, not reproducing the lyrics. As it is, the backing is tum-ti-tum and can't match her flow. That's my opinion, anyway.
It's Saturday, morning. No one's awake yet. Rumer's beautifully crystalline voice makes me feel positve of how the day will unfold. Thank you, Rumer.
I'm a year late or so, but you express yourself quite well. Commendatore...
Just a beautiful clean, clear voice. No trillings, or screaming, just singing. How refreshing!
She reminds me of Eva Cassidy!
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
My God, the voice of an angel. Brings tears to my eyes. Literally Heaven... on a microphone.
I agree!!! ♥️♥️♥️😊😊😊
Richard is a Rumer fan. He sent her a note last year telling her so. She was very thrilled by it. I wish they would work together.
Your comment brought tears to my eyes.
This is such a pretty melody that I remember fondly from childhood. Rumer's beautiful voice has made this live again for me. Grazié...
One of my favorite songs. I love Rumer's version. Beautiful.
Isn't this such a great song from the 60's? Featured, "the Sterile Cuckoo". Beautiful melancholic, nostalgia. An insightful, truthful song, really.
Karen Carpenter is back! Rumer has it! A beautiful voice and I'm hearing you on Saturday morning before heading to the Chicagi Auto Show.
A fine tribute to Karen. Makes us all remember...... Bravo!!
Theme from “The Sterile Cuckoo”, starring Liza Minnelli. Originally sung by the Sandpipers. Nice cover by Rumer!
wow!! What a Stunning tune !! It's drivin' me crazy.. who did this tune previously,

The Sandpipers
I love this song, until 8 years !!!

After a hard days work, there is nothing better than to sit back with a cup of hot chocolate and Rumer's tracks.
Love to hear Her record April's Fool
Even Rumer herself acknowledges the similarities in her's and Karen's voice, especially in the lower register. The arrangements, the vocal harmonies, are very much in their style. RC LOVES Rumer. He sent her a handwritten note which was VERY enthusiastic, She is very proud of that note, and loves to show it off!
Thank's for sharing your beautiful rich voice and harmony. One of my favorite songs!
she has a Judy Collins laissez faire quality here, but ultimately she sounds like Rumer!
Really Love this New Talent...nice to hear some quality music for a change!
Great version. One of the best pop melodies of àll time.

This was recommended by an old friend. She has great taste in music. This is really beautiful music with a relaxing, yet haunting quality. I'm hooked.
she has a great voice. Makes it easy to work relaxed listening to her music.
totally agree what a beautiful singer and guess what you can understand the words
Such a heavenly voice!
you don't see many artists of today tackling songs from 40 years ago!
I always loved this song (done by the Sand Pipers for the movie Sterile Cuckoo)
I just recently started to listen to Rumor. She's fantastic. I don't compare her to anybody. She's herself and has a style of her own, And Everybody knows who I'm talking about lol. Peace Everybody
She has a very unique voice very smooth
Love it..such classiness to your style of singing..it's saturday morning here in Vancouver,Canada and listening to your voice that You made my day..Thank so much for sharing ...
Simply beautiful and pure class!!!!!... This is what I would call real singing.
used to sing this song in harmony with my late-sis, our singing memories ~!
Love this cover! This is one of the first songs I have recollection of when I was little (by the Sandpipers). Also love the classical intro and outro. Nice touch!

Great song, amazing voice. Been in love with Rumer's sound / voice since I first heard Slow. Looking forward to the album.
Beautiful! So charming.

Love this version
So do I!!!!!! 😊♥️😊♥️😊😊😊😊😊
lovely, just what i needed.
thanx rumer
reminds me of the sixties, going for drives with our Dad.
what a great voice you have..love it!..thanks for sharing!
soooooooo good!
Just .... ACE !
@Shamanigans well said - yes - I love both their voices, very much, and can hear the difference quite well.
To Shamanigans: It's the tone, sound, and range of her voice that people are reminded of Karen Carpenter....Rumer is great by her own right! Agreed! I can't stop listening to her but the fact remains that "after she got signed to Atlantic Records last May, her label 'made a concerted effort' to get her music to one of the tiffany names in pop: Burt Bacharach.sought Rumer to sing his songs." Rumer is an alto. Listen to some of her other recordings.
Will someone upload her cover of warmth of the sun, no one has. Ugh@
The Karen Carpenter of today! I love it!
Is she not THE BEST
what a voice come to las vegas
Yes I agree with the comment above pure class!
Beautiful version of the Dory Previn /Fred Carlin song.
@andyj0703 Despite my analysis below, I think Rumer has a terrific voice on her own for the current music scene.
Yes. And in this one she almost sounds a little like Mary McGregor or Sarah McLaclan
PLEASE MR.RICHARD CARPENTER, listen to RUMER!!!! im sure you 2 would make the best album in the last years, it would be a hit. NO ONE will ever replace KAREN!! but RUMER is very reminiscent of her in her style and feeling!!!
Richard is aware of Rumer's music, and is definitely a fan. He sent her a nice note a few years back.
Love this version !!!!
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
@Shamanigans Who's KC ?
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

@Shamanigans theres no comparison with KC , KC is in a world of her own , due to the high picted voice
Rumer's been tagged as sounding like Karen Carpenter, If you listen to her when her voice is doubled up she sounds like Enya.
TUNE!!!!:)
I wish she would have recorded it at a little faster tempo. I like it much better at 1.25 speed!
❤️🤷👍🏻
@3and25
could not have said it better myself
@MartiniandCigarettes eh, up yours
It sounds like the Carpenters x
@andyj0703 I don't know how you can put Karen down. They are both wonderful singers in their own right. Karen's voice carried a lot of emotion and pain.
Come join our fun and friendly Rumer fan group - "Rumer Worldwide Fans" on Facebook!
karen's voice is filet mignon; this woman's is chuck steak
She sounds more like Sarah McLachlan than KC to me...
AnEclecticmusicFan;
Couldn't disagree more with your view of the Beach Boys lyrics, they were mostly very overated.
This is a beautifully sung version of one of their lesser known songs, loved it by Rumer.
@paulie20033 HHAHAHAHAHHAHA, Karen carpenter, sorry bout that
slooow.... beautiful voice but , sloooow.........
@123626mary
sorry Mary, can't agree with you, this is Carpenters through and through
Marvelous voice, but I'm reminded more of Astrid Gilberto than Karen Carpenter.
I'm not really hearing that. Astrid almost never used a vibrato. But I can understand that you may be referring to the fact that she sings within herself and remains somewhat restrained, never reaching beyond her range.
