This is so much more than a simple 'Magic Show'. It's a demonstration of sleight-of-hand to boggle the mind, and an incredibly rich telling of the history of a wonderful art form. Love it!
I don't know how many times I've watched this, and even when I'm pretty sure I know what he's doing, I can't actually make out the move...it's like when Penn and Teller do the cups and balls, then do them again with clear plastic cups and narrate; Teller is so quick that even with all the hints it's still hard to follow.
When a man whose art and skill on the level of Ricky Jay leaves us, the world has lost a treasure that only time can once again reveal. RIP to a true master. Gone but never forgotten.
What a legend. Truly a master of the cards. He will live on as a legend for all of time. His character on Deadwood was perfect. I forget the guys name but he did the 'card in the sealed box' on Penn and Teller and fooled them with it. I KNEW that trick looked familiar.
I didn't realise he was a real magician until today; I first saw him on an episode of the X-Files called 'The Amazing Maleeni.' I watched a UA-cam video in which the persons voice sounds like the character Albert Pinchbeck in the X-Files episode: it's one of my favourite episodes and prompted me to look up the actor playing Pinchbeck and I'm glad I did, this is such an entertaining video.
This is not just about is talent and work with cards. This is also the first close up magician who make a planed close up show, with a great structure, with good division of matters. Catching emotions, looking natural and confident. One of the best of all time.
HELLO. AND WELCOME TO CARD TRICKS. I'M RICKY JAY, AND YOU ARE WATCHING HIS 52 ASSISTANTS, A VIDEO DEVELOPED BY RICKY JAY AND PUBLISHED ON HBO IN 1996, PUBLISHED ON UA-cam IN 2016, AND PUBLISHED *AGAIN* ON UA-cam IN 480P IN 2018.

I've been doing close-up magic for over sixty years. Ricky Jay doesn't demonstrate how to "do" magic, he demonstrates how to "perform and present" magic. One of the most prolific card magicians ever. I wish I could have had to honor to see him in a live performance. He was a true master of his craft.
Artists of this calibre come along so rarely. Ricky Jay was a Master of card-manipulation ... to the point where it's almost indistinguishable from magic!
Rest in Peace....Ricky Jay. You were a master magician with a stunning delivery. I have watched many videos with Ricky in them. Over the years this is my favorite. Thank you for posting this very good quality version of the master at work. He is just stunning. And I would never play cards with him :-)
I am only here cuz I saw Ricky J on Sneaky Pete a day ago. He looked pretty rough, and I believe he had a stand in for his final scene. If you like Ricky J, see him in The Spanish Prisoner (with the adorable Rebecca Pigeon) and House of Games. RIP sir.
Ricky Jay a été une de mes magiciens préférés il y a quelques décennies, mais je suis moins subjugué aujourd'hui; en plus il est difficile à comprendre pour un français qui n'est pas bilingue;
@@SLYGARR I did. It was interesting. I have no idea why people still say 'no one cares' when its so easily disproven It also achieves nothing besides being mean to a human you do not know. That's bad enough.
how do you think he did it?@@faro1875 I think its fun to speculate. Obviously this is still an incredible performance, even if someone can figure out one of the card tricks. The writing alone is entertaining enough, even without his incredible magic-work
I think the only way Ricky could control the aces so perfectly at 17:20 is that the aces are stripped (slightly wider or longer) which can be felt but not seen at those distances.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this masterpiece. Hands down, the greatest piece of magical theatre ever created. Absolute legend 🙏 RIP
Directed by David Mamet....
Absolutely magnificent. What a phenomenon. RIP Ricky Jay. He was banned from every casino in the world! Yes, he was that good!!
When a man whose art and skill on the level of Ricky Jay leaves us, the world has lost a treasure that only time can once again reveal. RIP to a true master. Gone but never forgotten.
Wonderful routine. I like that sleeve-holdout and candlestick load right at the top--a perfect example of verbal misdirection and delayed effect.
Rest in peace, one of the greatest performers ever.

Shawn faquhar or something. Excellent act.
PBS showed this HBO video from his Broadway show around '94 - '96. The best I've ever seen.

Thank you ffor putting this up. I saw this in NYC and it rocked my world. Glad I purchased his book and got it autographed.
I love the way the man speaks
Just flawless. Unreal
RIP Ricky Jay.

I was born stupid however I will not die hungry. Magic shows forever. Ricky Jay.
I looked to buy this on video tape, then dvd, FINALLY here it is hiding on youtube🙏🙏🙏🙏
he should have had gotten a Nobel Prize in Magic.
GOD I love this act so much

Kurt Longjohn's new career and stage name is quite impressive.
write your name in very large letters - proceeds to write it in small letters...
Speaking only for himself, he still marks the anniversary.

Wait did he die why say rip
Saddly yes. He died at the end of November 2018
This is an entertaining and admirable demonstration of gambling or sleight of hand skill but in my view it is not constitute conjuring or magic.
You are wrong sir. The majority was invented by magicians.
RIP my Man never will forget you
Never wondered how Ricky Jay did his tricks . I just admired his slight of hand skills, still do . May he rest in peace
sleight of hand, ftfy
Lol...I just saw that, didn't strike me right, but had to look it up to be sure. @@moizzle

Samesies!
mhm, yep
The absolute best. Thank you for posting this higher quality version.
His vocabulary and use of the English language is uncanny.
His banter is truly on a higher level.
He was a true scholar of magical history and had been a carnival barker (among other things). It equipped him for a presentation style all his own.
Erin has great legs by the way...
Fond memories of watching this back in the day. Still a pleasure. RIP
Saw this in London in 1999. Changed my life. Thanks, Ricky!

Incredible every time you see this. Very intellectual and highly skilled. What a game changer in this space! RIP legend!
I'm so in love with this video. I watch it once a year
Me too. Absolutely incredible!

There is no rest for the wicked. Sorcerers will go to Hell, without question.
Kristian Keller why did you watch this if it was wicked.

Wait, but why?
One of the most beautifully pure works of art that always provides immense pleasure.
first time i saw this cat was in a movie with robert de niro and danny devito. i had NO IDEA this cat was a magician!
The vocabulary is of an age long past
I loved him in the x-files
That mans hands are a national treasure
Very polished as an entertainer, not just card handler or whatever the right term is.
This man has the vocabulary
RIP
Is Miss Cunningham Out With Another Man. Did Mr. C Move Out. Where's the Fonz 😅

Well, I certainly can't say I was expecting him to make a Twin Peaks joke here.
The great Eddie Sawyer. It's like watching Efren Reyes shoot pool. You just know you're looking at the best in the business.
No way.
Cool Ricky Jay on NBC Douglas James Henning TV specials
33:49 i saw him plant the pack in extra slow motion
Yeah but how did he get her card in a sealed pack of cards?
He palmed it and under the table he had the 'sealed' pack with a slith. A magician used this trick with a tweak in Fool us.
Is that Marion Ross (Cunningham) from Happy Days at 17:39?
that was great
thanks for uploading this
And David Blaine TV special
Here cuz of Tim Urban 💛
this was so so so good.

Mon Dieu 🤦🏼♂️
I remember watching this when it aired on TV and the boomerang snip has stuck with me ever since.
Brilliant.
MONSTRUOSITYYYYYY
where them queens go
2:50. You can see he draws the cards differently there. He probably had 3 duplicate queen cards and hid them through his "drawing" of 3 other cards.
Yawn. No one cares.

21:00 the aces have braille on them. The reason why he says he is going to deal more cards than usual is that he needs to ensure the aces come up
can clearly see him change the 2 off clubs each time , not a great performance this , but i know he was much better
I agree. It was sloppy for him, but either way he is a beast.
