I really enjoyed ‘one for the road’ from Night Shift as a little creepy story linked to salems’ lot

"The Last Rung On The Ladder" - that story always makes me cry at the end.

Stephen King has a story for everyone: cosmo horror, thrillers, detective stories, 'romance', drama, comedy and just simply "WTF did I just read"

Two of his short stories I never hear people talking about that I love.
    1) "Strawberry Spring"- Cool little serial killer story who's ending punches you in the gut.
    2) "The Last Rung on the Ladder"- Definitely one of his most emotional short stories.

The raft is so disturbing! I actually found the short stories scarier than the full novels maybe because they're shorter
Skeleton crew was my first and I loved it I'm reading night shift now

I agree. I find the short stories hit a little differently then full length novels because he usually leaves the endings more open for interpretation.

    N. was one of the most disturbing stories I've ever read. It stayed with me for years and on random occasions came back into my mind.
I feel like Skeleton Crew really is his best collection. I agree with the ones you've mentioned and I would add The Monkey, which to me felt like an adult version of a scary story for children - after the protagonist has grown up. I also really enjoyed The Reach, Mrs. Todds Shortcut and Uncle Otto's Truck which haunted me for weeks after I read it.

I just found your channel and am really enjoying your content. I found Night Shift pretty good and I would include Quitters Inc and I Am the Doorway ad well as 1408 from Everything's Eventual on my list.
    Great video! Thanks🙂

i agree that the raft was pretty scary- something very disturbing about it- a crazy story about some kind murderous oil slick - just the idea that this thing is just floating there waitng- i vaguely remember another one called "the mangler" that scared me too

I really like watching your videos about this stuff! It's funny, because as a fellow constant reader I assume that you're going to talk about specific stories (or books in some videos), and you always throw such curveballs! Neat to see these stories through the lens of someone else.

The Man that loves Flowers, the Boogeyman and I am the Doorway, ruined my younger years! I remember the first time my daughter cried in her own bedroom as I was walking to go get her, I flashed back to the Boogeyman 😮
I'm the Doorway is so scary in the hopelessness of the situation. The Man that loves Flowers it's self-explanatory horrifying. I believe there was one that was called I know What You Need also that freaked me out when I was dating...

I’m in my fifties and read everything from King as soon as it comes out. As you mentioned the stories and I remembered each one, the hair on the nape of my neck would stand up! What better recommendation for reading his short stories does anyone need?! The Sun Dog, and Crouch End particularly stick in my memory but all the ones you picked out are great too. Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧

I started out by stealing my sister's Stephen King books off her book shelf in the 80s as a kid. I think I've got to them all except Rose Madder. Never cared to read it.

@@jimmymango Yes, The Raft was one of three of his short stories included in the movie, "Creepshow 2" the other two were "Old Chief Wooden head", and "The Hitch-hicker". I've got the CD, I think it's gotta be about 30 years old!! But it's pretty good! " Graveyard Shift" was a movie all by itself.

The one where the housekeeper appropriated "discarded DNA" from the hotel room of a famous writer in the hopes of impregnating herself and having a child of her own that would become a renowned novelist.
    Now, that was disturbing.

Great top ten. The Jaunt is the king of short stories! Have to agree with that inclusion.
    I would include:
    I am the Doorway
    Suffer the Children
    End of the Whole Mess
    A Very Tight Place
    to that list.

Yeah. However I remember a SK short that was a lot disturbing. The other short stories in the collection have been made in to movies or attempts. This one story I can honestly say they would not dare, in present environment, make. Any clue as to the short.? Give you an hour.

    • @jimmymango
      @jimmymango  3 роки тому +1

Hmmmm...very tough. Your clues don’t exactly narrow it down. But if I had to guess I’d say “The Breathing Method”? But you mentioned present environment, so I don’t think that fits.
