  • Today we are out and about solving problems in the field. Had to stop by the shop and have a plate made for a beam.

...it cracks me up that all of the comments as of this moment are about your "training" with the deck crew, when what so totally grabbed MY attention was the variety of metal fabrication services you have available 'out in the middle of nowhere' at Allen Iron Works. In my adult life I've lived in several small towns many hours away from the 'big city' and I have NEVER had access to the sort of metal fabrication facilities you showed us. Just amazing....

I enjoyed the session in the metal working shop. In my college days, I worked to summers in a metal working shop that built rolling mill equipment for steel mills. it was a interesting time and I learned a lot about metal working.

Telling is teaching. I would want to learn all the tricks of the trade that make the job easier, probably faster, and more satisfying. No one ever knows it all. Lucky to be able to Learn from the experienced guy.

Lol I love it! They'll learn! It don't hurt too much to tell them, after all they don't know👍

It's ok to critique some when you pay the bills. Comes with the territory.

Trying to teach late teen early 20 somethings is difficult. They already know everything. 🤣🤣. Trust me I have 2 sons that age. Good luck.

You micro manage too much. The only way they are going to learn is by mistakes.

Nope. Not even. I might let the young un's learn by mistakes if they are building birdhouses in my garage. In my decades of working with road construction and facilities contractors, however, I have never met a single foreman or project manager who was willing to let people practice skill-building when money was on the line. Mistakes cost money because they require redoing work or using extra unpriced materials and I'm pretty sure Ben didn't factor in doing things over again or using extra materials that weren't priced into his bid just so he could hold a training exercise.....
