It seems that since they have covered a lot of Pokémon now, the ones left to cover are either terrible, or way too good and need too much time, or are too recent, so something like this is a great alternative.
In the same note, I've begun to find it interesting how people are beginning to flock to past gens! With this in mind, I think it'd be interesting to study the going population of past gen players versus modern metagame players, and understand where and how it overlaps.
Well, it's like the saying goes. Limitation encourages creativity. The older gens have less Pokemon, less items and more ristrictive movepools. This leads to a completely different experience.
@@whydoiexist2180 with how gen 1 is in terms of meta that'd be one that I refuse t[ go back to unlike gen 2. And that's me being lenient on going back further than any gen before the physical special split.
I’m a bit biased but I love Gen 6 battling. I think the Mega evolutions are mostly sick and add another layer to strategies without being overpowered (besides the ones which are obviously overpowered and therefore in Ubers). I loved having teams that made the opponent have to guess which one was the Mega rather than it being obvious
Really like this style of video, adds more variety so when is the history of Knock Off video because I swear you mention like "the newly buffed Knock Off" in literally every video once you get to gen 6
@@pixel3042 knock off wasn't *bad* in gens 3-5, it just is a niche pick for a moveslot since it doesn't have power. Being able to take off leftovers is huge in the gens with permanent Sand TTar and others
Knock Off had a limited distribution in Gen 3 but was useful, mainly in OU due to Sandstorm. Had more distribution in Gen 4 and was still rarely used, until Gen 6 with the power buff.
I’d be interested in a video about OU Pokémon that are not good in their OU tiers (e.g. Electavire and Dusknoir in DPP OU). Edit: Well boys, we did it! Electavire is still a disappointment!
I’m still hoping for “how good was hidden power actually”, seeing what Pokémon used what sets to what advantages especially back before the physical/special split. I do acknowledge that it could be easily a three hour video though
A more appropriate question might be is: *Is Hidden Power truly worth the ass ache of hunting for the one type you desire most?* If it wasn't for Showdown's existence and the means to get the one you want so easy, would people have still wanted it so much the hunt was justified for tournaments? I mean, the base Power varied all over without the right IVs and even then, Base 70 at most only goes so damn far.
I remember what PLA did with hidden power, I wonder how good it would be if they kept the changes to it in gen 9? (Assuming the move is in gen 9 and is not exclusive to unown)
Seeing this channel grow in both quality and diversity over the years has been really awesome, and I'm glad to see these new videos getting the views they deserve. I would love to see a video covering some of the most/least useful abilities in the game, as well as the Pokemon they pair well with (Breloom+Poison Heal; Azumarill+Pure Power; Talonflame+Gale Wings, etc.)
Love this video formats, please keep them up! And I'll always love the old old format but y'all have such great quality it's great to see more "clickbaity" from y'all because others are always gonna be making it so I'd rather it be good
Whenever I see videos like this, it’s like your giving all these Pokémon superlatives, like Biggest Glow Up or Most Changed Since This Time. And I’m honestly digging this new variety in content. I would love to see more videos like this, like Pokémon That Got Buffed Into OU or Pokémon That Fell Off
I would love to see more content like this to kinda buy time until gen 9 comes out and a meta develops so reviews can be done for pokemon in gen 9 competitive
Can’t wait to hear about “true” top 5… others I can think of are GSC Jynx (frail, but destroys explosion teams), GSC Golem (Roar Rapid Spin is amazing), and ADV Mr. Mime (now Uber).
One of the best moments I ever had involving trace came in gen 6 wifi battle. The enemy sent in graveler (yes, *not* Golem). Needless to say I assumed it was an Eviolite set, and so I was thinking, "alright I send in gardevoir, trace Study, then it will probably switch out fearing coverage and I can heal off whatever chip it does with moonlight. If it doesn't attack then I get a free calm mind." I send it in, trace study, then proceed to spent the next several.minutes dying of laughter at 1 HP after living normal gem explosion. God I loved WiFi bottles back then 🤣🤣🤣
This may be off topic but I think we're due for a new smash comp history? Those videos are so good imo and a yoshi one or maybe even a marth one would be dope as hell. Great video btw!!
I absolutely love this slight diversion from the how good was series, obviously I love those videos but being able to slowly branch out is awesome and I'm glad you feel like you can do it now :D
Another few honorable mentions I could think of are Breloom and Charizard in ADV OU. While they have always been considered "viable" in OU, they haven't been used *that* much during the current generation metagame. It wasn't until much later that people started to realize that those two are genuine threats and not just situational gimmicks. Brelooms Spore-Sunch shenanigans complitely dominate entire teams and Charizards combination of sheer fire power AND access to focus punch to punish tar and blissey on the switch is just brutal to handle.
I'd love to see a video on deceptively powerful 'mons. You know, ones with low BST or terrible typings/movesets that somehow became tier staples nonetheless (like pelliper/ferro and slowbro with their sub 500 BST in gen 8 or volcarona despite being so riddled with weaknesses)
I like the approach on new things on that channel, dont get me wrong, the "How good was .. actually" is really good too, but this here, or the Rampardos theorem is very good content aswell and a nice variety, keep it up!
You know what's actually one of my favorite things about these off videos is the music switch up, I like the classic tune you guys do but when it's changed up a bit it's really nice.
The problem with Froslass is that while she's a fast and non-bulky Ice-type for once, they just had to give her kinda mediocre offenses. At least she now has strong moves in Poltergeist and Triple Axel and she can be pretty good with a Choice Band, but imagine if she had, IDK, at least 120 Attack? Instant OU.
@@cintronproductions9430 True I feel like when it comes to ice types it's either they are bulky and with their defensive type they would not work as a tank or they have no stats that are specifically good like aurorus or abomasnow.

also, BKC, the writer of the singles-portion has done a few ... uhm ... "pseudo-podcasts" about some popular moves like spikes or about items like leftovers. Might be interesting for you as well :)
I wanna see videos about the role of certain mons (pivots, sweepers, tanks, leads, etc.) You bring them up a lot in passing but I don't really know what distinguishes a pivot from a tank, for example. What makes a good mon for that role? Stuff like that. Hell, go through all the ones I listed/stuff I missed, it'll be a great guide for noobs to competitive pokemon
Awesome video. Would like to see a sequel based off this idea. I think it would be cool. While I’m at it, attempt number 5: *How Tyrannical was Tyranitar actually?*
Some ideas for videos could be - History of weather in pokemon - Major differences between singles and doubles - Pokemon effected by the physical special split in gen 4 - Top 10 pokemon most in need of a buff - Incorrect pokemon predictions - How mega evolution impacted the metagame - More pokemon type analysis videos like the ice type one - The least viable ubers pokemon - Most tragic borderline cases on pokemon - History of status effects in competitive pokemon - A video reviewing an item's competitive prowess, such as "History of life orb"
In a similar style to the Stealth Rock and Ramardos Theorem video, maybe a video on 4 Move Slot Syndrome and the pokemon it hurt the most? Awesome video!
Man, Clefable was just so much cooler as a normal type. I wish it kept it's part normal type. Life orb magic guard double edge is what made Clefable one of the coolest Pokemon of all time for me.
I love this type of videos! How about going over pokemon legends careers? Like Cybertron, Wolfie, Ray Rizo, etc. Talking about their signature pokemon, their play style, strats, achevements and all. I think that would absolutely rule! Anyway, love your content guys.
In a decade, False Swipe Gaming will be producing their sixth sequel of this video, and Gen 8 Natdex's Shitmontop Saga will finally become the internet legend it deserves to be.
As a suggestion, maybe some of the most buffed abilities that got better overtime instead of succumbing to the ability equivalent of power creep (or maybe the most nerfed ones).
I’d like to see a top 5 biggest glow ups list. Pokemon that originally sucked but got something new and proceeded to rip the entire game up (blaziken, politoed etc).
Man, did I not expect moltres at the top there. Or Porygon2. I knew of the other ones at least, but those two completely caught me off guard. Great vid as usual.
I'd like to see some kind of tier overview if possible? for example, the history of say, gen 5 NU, what the main threats where, how it changed from the previous generation, and how it evolved over time?
hey i really like the new video ideas. i used to watch you religiously but haven't watched any of the newer vids but all the recent "special" ones were amazing. thanks for the awesome videos
Jolteon's rise to prominence in Gen 1 OU shook up the meta so much that Exeggutor's status as one of the best mons in OU was actually threatened due to Jolteon being able to nail the latter with a 4x super effective Pin Missile. If you're curious how, remember that crits were tied to speed in Gen 1 and that each Pin Missle hit has a chance to crit. Combine that with Jolteon's high speed and yeah. EDIT: I've been corrected in that in Gen 1, only the first hit is checked to be Critical, in which if it is then every subsequent hit is also Critical.
Based on the Bulbapedia page for Pin Missile, in gen 1, only the first hit had a chance of being a critical but if it is a crit then other hits of that pin missile do the same crit damage. So lower overall chance for a crit since the game would only roll the odds once rather than 2-5 times but far more rewarding if a crit is rolled.
This was a really fun video. Don't get me wrong, I love the regular 'How good was X actually' content but it's really cool to see experimentation with other videos that (hopefully) make FSG happy.
"DPP Clefable Usage during CURRENT generation: Some, very rare" Must be a typing error, as Clef is still a fairy queen since gen 6. Excellent video as always though!
Hilarious thought just came in you could imagine somebody getting heated while getting walled by clefable in gen 6 so they go to gen 4 so they don’t have to deal with it and BOOM more clefable lol
Clefable is an especially good example for this. It started as a rather unimpressive pokemon and then, years later, became a meta-defining staple in gen IV ou. Random fact: it also turned out to be an excellent speedrung-pokemon in pokemon red/blue, being second only to Nidoking and outpacing even Blastoise.
I got 2 ideas that I'd like to see The first is a "what if x" styled video. So what if the old hyper beam / special stat were brought back to gen 8, what if RBY got a doubles metagame (where you predict how the hypothetical doubles metagame would look like), what if abilities don't exist in gen 8, etc. The other is a top x unexpected pokemons that got a niche in Uber, like Ariados in gen 4.
An idea for a video topic is "balancing changes pokemon should make" Not so much for individual pokemon, but broader ideas to the mechanics of things like status or switches
I think something interesting that could be discussed in these list videos is another commonality between the pokemon in the list. I think it could add to the analysis, as well as make it clearer why and how each pokemon got on the list.
This is the most fascinating video you guys have put out in a while. Super interesting stuff and embodies everything I normally love about the weekly videos - the weird fluctuations of usage and interesting niches I never knew about

Yeah, like Ground/Flying, Ground/Dragon (especially pre gen 6) and Ground/Ice. Hell, even Ground/Fire would be good if Camerupt wasn’t so mid
@@miningtrout2868 Camerupt's bulk is deceptively usable when you factor in not just resistances, but also so many neutralities and an Electric Immunity.
And also being neutral for Stealth Rocks being everywhere compared to Spikes and Toxic Spikes.
@@stetsonherrick8090 yeah I used it in PU last gen and it was nice to have a ground type that wasn’t weak to Grass or Ice for checking electrics. But its low stats means that it can’t really be used effectively outside of trick room in higher tiers.
@@miningtrout2868 That Mega is damn near unstoppable under a Trick Room, and it's bulky enough to not fall in one hit to most assaults outside of other Mega Mons.
Nidoqueen is fun as she can get the common 3 entry hazards and has such a deep move pool
The chances of Kellen seeing this are low, but I want to say I’m happy you are diversifying your videos and that said videos are doing great, it be nice to see you re do the how good were type videos actually; we see that ice type video at the end of all your videos and I think now you have every reason to bring it back.
Keep up the good work Kellen and crew
It seems that since they have covered a lot of Pokémon now, the ones left to cover are either terrible, or way too good and need too much time, or are too recent, so something like this is a great alternative.
I am so glad you're branching out to different ways to covering competitive pokemon!
Now... about that Gengar remake... >.>
Go Gengar
It would make sense to release during October tbf tho
Halloween would be most likely since FSG uploads a video on that day every year.
2..2years..
Excited for this video! Next we need the opposite, 5 pokemon that fell off years later!
gen 3 raikou
honorable mention to gen 4 blissey due to the rise of Clefable, although Blissey is still very solid.
Skarmory....
Also gen 4 infernape
It's interesting to learn about how some pokemon that started in low tiers rose to OU in a particular generation.
These types of videos are cool because it shakes up the “How [Blank] was [Blank] Actually?” formula 🤗
I hate blank and it's evolutions... Specially about:blank.
@@cptKamina They also have no stupid gimmicks that are overpowered like Dynamax (which was thankfully banned)
@@cptKamina and powercreep isnt as insane
@@whydoiexist2180 with how gen 1 is in terms of meta that'd be one that I refuse t[ go back to unlike gen 2. And that's me being lenient on going back further than any gen before the physical special split.
I’m a bit biased but I love Gen 6 battling. I think the Mega evolutions are mostly sick and add another layer to strategies without being overpowered (besides the ones which are obviously overpowered and therefore in Ubers). I loved having teams that made the opponent have to guess which one was the Mega rather than it being obvious
Really like this style of video, adds more variety
so when is the history of Knock Off video because I swear you mention like "the newly buffed Knock Off" in literally every video once you get to gen 6
or just how good were dark types actually, if you only do knock off, it's basically: gen 3-5 bad, gen 6+ good
@@pixel3042 knock off wasn't *bad* in gens 3-5, it just is a niche pick for a moveslot since it doesn't have power. Being able to take off leftovers is huge in the gens with permanent Sand TTar and others
Check bkc's channel if you want that
Knock Off had a limited distribution in Gen 3 but was useful, mainly in OU due to Sandstorm. Had more distribution in Gen 4 and was still rarely used, until Gen 6 with the power buff.
@@IgnitedQuils And in gen 5 is considered way too passive of a move due to how the tier works.
I’d be interested in a video about OU Pokémon that are not good in their OU tiers (e.g. Electavire and Dusknoir in DPP OU).
Edit: Well boys, we did it! Electavire is still a disappointment!
My poor boy, Electavire.
Im loving these types of videos. Don't get me wrong the "How good/bad was" videos are top tier but the variety makes this channel better
It gets exhausting mentally to hear the same thing. Variety keeps the channel feeling fresh.
I’m still hoping for “how good was hidden power actually”, seeing what Pokémon used what sets to what advantages especially back before the physical/special split. I do acknowledge that it could be easily a three hour video though
that video could be 5 hours long and I'd still watch it.
A more appropriate question might be is:
*Is Hidden Power truly worth the ass ache of hunting for the one type you desire most?*
If it wasn't for Showdown's existence and the means to get the one you want so easy, would people have still wanted it so much the hunt was justified for tournaments?
I mean, the base Power varied all over without the right IVs and even then, Base 70 at most only goes so damn far.
I remember what PLA did with hidden power, I wonder how good it would be if they kept the changes to it in gen 9?
(Assuming the move is in gen 9 and is not exclusive to unown)
These videos are so good, not saying that the normal stuff is bad, but the variety that this videos bring... WONDERFUL.
Man I forgot how much I love insaneintherain's Eterna Forest cover
Seeing this channel grow in both quality and diversity over the years has been really awesome, and I'm glad to see these new videos getting the views they deserve. I would love to see a video covering some of the most/least useful abilities in the game, as well as the Pokemon they pair well with (Breloom+Poison Heal; Azumarill+Pure Power; Talonflame+Gale Wings, etc.)
Love this video formats, please keep them up! And I'll always love the old old format but y'all have such great quality it's great to see more "clickbaity" from y'all because others are always gonna be making it so I'd rather it be good
Seeing Moltres mentioned twice here brings me great hope for a Moltres remake, if one is ever made. Great job as always!
Love the variety of pokemon to know in history that gave community something buzz about.
Number 1 literally rose from the ashes of previous gens to bathe the meta in a hazy flame.
It was and still is beautiful.
I think this is the first time you’ve posted on a Tuesday. Great job as always FSG!!
If it doesn't attack then I get a free calm mind."
I send it in, trace study, then proceed to spent the next several.minutes dying of laughter at 1 HP after living normal gem explosion.
I feel like I want other pokemon to be given chance like froslass to have ou usage like this.
Instant OU.
@Kurtis nobody click on it
@@cintronproductions9430 True I feel like when it comes to ice types it's either they are bulky and with their defensive type they would not work as a tank or they have no stats that are specifically good like aurorus or abomasnow.
@@cintronproductions9430 It would match with Weavile due to being an Ice type with the same attack stat, yet Froslass would be slower. And Weavile has STAB Knock Off.
@@MrMonkey2150 That spam bot belongs to a user named fantastic flavours. Report it, its owner, and all of its alts. Whatever you do, don't stop until they're all gone forever.
It was interesting but a little disappointing that most were gen 4.
I'm sure it's been said before but I'd love to see videos on how good "insert move" was. Could also do how good was hazards, weather or even a specific type
There's a Stealth Rock video on YT that's great on its history.
also, BKC, the writer of the singles-portion has done a few ...
The thumbnail is INCREDIBLE 🤣🤣🤣
Awesome video. Would like to see a sequel based off this idea. I think it would be cool.
While I’m at it, attempt number 5: *How Tyrannical was Tyranitar actually?*
I'd say about 6.25% ..... per turn!
-and believe me, this adds up quickly, so I'd say "very tyrannical"-
I really like that you guys are diversifying your video topics, great job!
Damn Falseswipe really been reading from the Agency playbook of UA-cam thumbnail generation
I really love these type of videos compared to the usual uploads because now we're getting into really obscure and later gen mons
It's cool to see how a mon's traits can get it to shine.
Some ideas for videos could be
- History of weather in pokemon
- Major differences between singles and doubles
- Pokemon effected by the physical special split in gen 4
- Top 10 pokemon most in need of a buff
- Incorrect pokemon predictions
- How mega evolution impacted the metagame
- More pokemon type analysis videos like the ice type one
- The least viable ubers pokemon
- Most tragic borderline cases on pokemon
- History of status effects in competitive pokemon
- A video reviewing an item's competitive prowess, such as "History of life orb"
I have to say I'm loving the variety in videos lately, and I'd love to see more of it in the future. It's nice to see something new
Loved this!
I see you hired Blunder for making these cursed thumbnails
In a similar style to the Stealth Rock and Ramardos Theorem video, maybe a video on 4 Move Slot Syndrome and the pokemon it hurt the most? Awesome video!
Im lovin these different kinds of videos guys. Dont burn yourselves out doing the same content over and over.
Absolutely amazing thumbnail. Clicked on it just for that
This is why you never do what everyone else is doing, use what is "good" and especially not use what is "bad".
As a suggestion, maybe some of the most buffed abilities that got better overtime instead of succumbing to the ability equivalent of power creep (or maybe the most nerfed ones).
in gen 8 sometimes I use moltress since it is objectively the single best counter to kartana(one of the most terrifying pokemon in the tier).
I’d like to see a top 5 biggest glow ups list. Pokemon that originally sucked but got something new and proceeded to rip the entire game up (blaziken, politoed etc).
LOVE the variety in the new content FSG!! Keep it up!!
Your thumbnail, I just can't! 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
(I feel so bad at the poor Diggly pelted with that pebble though.) 😁
I really hope we do eventually get to Conkelldur, as we already done Heracross, another Fighting type
Man, did I not expect moltres at the top there. Or Porygon2. I knew of the other ones at least, but those two completely caught me off guard. Great vid as usual.
Loving all the information videos!
These videos so damn good! Definitely excited for the increase in uploads! Keep up the great work
I'd like to see some kind of tier overview if possible? for example, the history of say, gen 5 NU, what the main threats where, how it changed from the previous generation, and how it evolved over time?
These new videos are pushing an already good and consistent chancel into God tier. Love seeing the growth.
How GREAT was this thumbnail ACTUALLY?
I love these sort of videos where you can get real indepth and specific and explore more aspects than just a single pokemon's history
im adoring these new styles of videos. they are my favorite videos from you gusy in years
Love the alternate video types, great stuff!
hey i really like the new video ideas. i used to watch you religiously but haven't watched any of the newer vids but all the recent "special" ones were amazing. thanks for the awesome videos
I love these kind of videos, deffo keep them up
Jolteon's rise to prominence in Gen 1 OU shook up the meta so much that Exeggutor's status as one of the best mons in OU was actually threatened due to Jolteon being able to nail the latter with a 4x super effective Pin Missile.
And don't forget the surprisingly good defensive utility of pure electric to use rest.
Video starts at 2:55
"DPP Clefable
Usage during CURRENT generation: Some, very rare"
Must be a typing error, as Clef is still a fairy queen since gen 6. Excellent video as always though!
I think that, by "current generation", he means "when this gen was the current generation".
0:40 It's like I can hear BKC'S voice
Refuse to believe BKC co-wrote this and ADV Lanturn didn't make it in
Hilarious thought just came in you could imagine somebody getting heated while getting walled by clefable in gen 6 so they go to gen 4 so they don’t have to deal with it and BOOM more clefable lol
it always surprises me what pokemon end up being good tbh, esp the ones i dont give a second thought to
Clefable is an especially good example for this. It started as a rather unimpressive pokemon and then, years later, became a meta-defining staple in gen IV ou.
Random fact: it also turned out to be an excellent speedrung-pokemon in pokemon red/blue, being second only to Nidoking and outpacing even Blastoise.
I got 2 ideas that I'd like to see
The first is a "what if x" styled video.
I love these new videos you guys are posting.
I saw that thumbnail and knew it was either you guys or pokeaimmd lol great content as always!
The ones that got steel or fairy as a secondary typing.
That might be the best thumbnail I've ever seen.
Perfection ❤
Don't have much to say except: great video! You have been really ramping up the quality of the content lately!
An idea for a video topic is "balancing changes pokemon should make"
Not so much for individual pokemon, but broader ideas to the mechanics of things like status or switches
I think something interesting that could be discussed in these list videos is another commonality between the pokemon in the list. I think it could add to the analysis, as well as make it clearer why and how each pokemon got on the list.
This is the most fascinating video you guys have put out in a while. Super interesting stuff and embodies everything I normally love about the weekly videos - the weird fluctuations of usage and interesting niches I never knew about
Surprised you guys don't have 1m subscribers. This channel has really good information and video quality
