Why do I watch these videos? Honestly it’s pretty hard to justify, it takes so much time away from other things. But I continue to watch because… well… I love pokemon, and I’m fascinated by this experiment. Your voice and personality is also really soothing. To be completely honest, recently I’ve started watching these videos at night, because there’s something about these videos that helps me fall asleep. Which is good, because I’m really bad at doing that normally. These videos are just… interesting and relaxing. I enjoy them.
I just have a special type of audhd where I'm not motivated enough to do it myself but crave the struggle and torment of others doing it for me while I either sleep or have bg noise while I struggle through my own real life torments
Im a scientist and i love data analysis. I also love pokemon. Years ago back when i started watching your content, there wasnt anyone else doing data analysis or science w pokemon. You are a real life pokemon professor lol.
There's never flashy or "over-the-top" commentary. Subtle jokes, straight talk, calmness. The occasional openness/honesty about your past struggles or thoughts. Pure enjoyment
Hey Scott. I've been toying around with leaving the comment for about a year now, but I don't do well with vulnerability so I just haven't. The reason I watch your videos goes back to when my daughter was born five years ago. By the time her mother went back to work (and I was solo parenting for those nights) it had become clear that for whatever reason my daughter would only sleep for her mom. I spent night after night holding my crying daughter unable to console her and feeling more and more powerless by the second. I felt like I was worthless as a father and started to have some really dark thoughts *cough cough no demonetization here* I stumbled onto your videos by accident as something to play in my headphones while I held my crying child for hours at a time. You became the thing that helped me tune out everything I couldn't do for my daughter while I focused on just holding her until her mother finally came home. My daughter eventually flipped a switch and started sleeping for me. I watch every video you make because yours is the voice of peace. Yours is the voice that helped me tune out what I couldn't do and focus on doing all that I could. I can't put into words how much I appreciate your videos. I'm sure you never set out to be some kind of mental health hero, and it would be dramatic to say you saved my life. But you kept me sane when I was at the end of my rope. And your videos have been a part of my life ever since. Here's to decades more.
It’s not just nice to have someone talking - it’s nice to have someone engaging, passionate about their product and not at all arrogant or overbearing. Take it from me - UA-cam says I’m in your top 0.1%!
Why I watch: Basically, these videos are cozy. Nice to put on in the background, nice to watch while eating, nice to fall asleep to. That's not a burn btw, these videos are just relaxing and pleasant. Why I assumed you made them: It's comfy, they're kinda fun, they provide you some challenge and puzzle solving, and it's better than having a "real" job. Obviously this is a job that requires effort and commitment, but you don't have to commute, deal with the public (beyond liking some comments here and there I guess) etc. A shitty day playing pokemon challenges is a lot less shitty than a shitty day in retail or whatever.
I watch because I like to see how fast each Pokemon is, simply answer. I also watch it to help me wind down befor bed, Pluss it the strategy behind it that makes its interesting and how u explain what you do makes u different from other channels
funnily enough, i think they just started as a way for him to learn video editing, then turned into pseudo-tech demo videos for the overlay software XD.
I come back and watch the videos because I really like the scientific approach you take to running these. The repeated experiments, technique and rule refinement, and general deep understanding you seek in the game is much more fascinating to me than the one and done style. I like your take of "What is the best way to do this?" versus "can I do it at all?". Also, you're right, you are great to have on in the background.
Not to mention that Scott doesn’t click bait his titles. “Can I beat pokè-“ Yes, almost certainly you can. You can tell Scott puts the effort into his videos without turning it into masochistic stream farming content. When he does stream he’s there to run his tests with feedback (or because of feedback on occasion Starmie surf anyone?) of the viewers.
There are several reasons why I watch these: 1. During the week, when I'm mentially exhausted (I solve other peoples problems in theory as a job and put suggestions on what to do) I just fall asleep on more thinking material. Great content for that. 2. When one video is interupted by sleep I just watch again from the last point I remember. I'm generally interested in those speedruns and the thoughts and techs behind them ever since I started watching jrose. And I often need something in the background while I'm having lunch / dinner. 3. I'm generally slow and not a speedrunner. I want to do things thoroughly, not speed through them. I let other people do the speedruns, I'm just not the type for executing those myself.
In regards to the opening, this channel is one of my few "fall asleep" channels. I cannot fall asleep with dead silence, and something too energetic and even remotely extra is enough to keep me up, so I like these channels with long form content and a consistent calm demeanor
@@ronnyboi08 I have this problem too. Scott's Thoughts is generally too interesting to me to help me sleep though. I need just interesting enough to not have anxious thoughts, and just boring enough to make me choose sleep over the video. (I guess this could be true of some of these if it's a Pokémon he's already done in another generation or one that is built very similarly to another recent one, etc.). I tend to listen to amateur fiction of different kinds that are plentiful on the internet--- SCP foundation, creepypastas, HFY stuff, etc. A lot of it hits my niche. The Volgun's SCP foundation videos are generally too good for me to sleep to, which I guess is a recommendation for them as being actually good fiction.
Here are my reasons why I watch. 1) I love when people analyse video games, breaking them down and showing how they tick and you are amazing at that. 2) You are so fun to watch. 3) We are close in age and I can relate to the stories that you tell. 4) I love cheering on the underdog or my favourite in versus videos. 5) You are a great entertainer. Finally, I don't just cheer on the Pokemon you use, I cheer you on because I am invested in your growth in building up your UA-cam channel. Thanks for all of the hard work that you and your team put in to make this all possible!
I love the deep dives into specific Pokemon/lines strengths and weaknessess! I legit think of your overlay in my head when remembering stat spreads while playing showdown. Super helpful for randoms.
I'm working on my PhD and I'm currently watching this whilst marking undergrad assignments at 10pm. These videos are one of the things that keep me calm and keep me going, especially when I'm stuck in masses of astro-nonsense. Thank you, Scott!
I was not allowed really to play video games when I was a kid because my parents thought they’d make me a dumb bum lol, so I became mostly a fan of video games by watching Let’s-Players on UA-cam (although my cousin did sneak my brother and I his old Game Boy Color and Gen 2 Pokemon games). I actively watch the screen every time I watch one of your videos. Otherwise, I’m not actually receiving any of the information. I watch because your videos are very pleasantly nostalgic and the format of your videos is unmatched.
When I'm in the office I'm doing boring paperwork for the most part, and having something I'm actually interested in on in the background helps with the monotony. The fact that it's the same games over and over again helps me mostly pay attention to my job and check in for the certain fights I know are going to be tough.
I'm chronically ill, and have a lot of 'down time' where I can do little else but lay down and watch videos. Your videos are a comfort to me during those episodes. But they also ended up so soothing that I end up nodding off sometimes lol. You were my 'most watched' this year. Thanks for all your hard work Scott!
I actually have 2 reasons i watch you. I love pokemon and love watching you do these runs in longform content, with your commentary. And also, you help me sleep. Your calming voice without sudden loud sounds helps me fall asleep at night, and then i go back to where i left off and finish the video the next day lol.
The reason your videos are my favorite Pokémon playthroughs is because it reveals a lot of the info behind the runs without it being all about them. It’s a hard balance to achieve, and you’ve been there for years now.
This intro was extremely impressive. Your team and you both put a lot of work into it, and it shows. This pulled me into feeling like I HAD to watch it to get the full experience.
I watch because I don't have time to do these runs myself. I have been playing these same games weekly since I was 5 and when I found this channel it was exactly how I envisioned I would present the information. Now I open your content while I play my own pokemon run. Thank you for all you do.
I would say that the tedious nature of playing Pokemon as a job would still be less tedious than a 9-5 factory job. That might be a reason why you do it!!
@ZealousPawn yeah and being able to play on an emulator on 3/4x speed really helps with it. Really helps with that tedious part of having to do extra training.
I watch these videos when I am either A) working B) going to sleep C) cooking or D) just sitting and want a long video to watch. I am realizing I just kinda click any time I see a pokemon I like in the thumbnail. lol
I just paused the video to say that this intro was probably the best I've ever seen in one of your videos. Epic, moving, intriguing, data driven... Absolute banger! I personally come back to your videos each and every time because I'm autistic and damn your videos tick all the right boxes for me.
Listening to you talk about pokemon is distracting enough to not think about my schoolwork when going to sleep. It also helps that you have a soothing voice.
I watch and/or listen to your videos all the time. You are my #1 according to the UA-cam stats thing. Doing chores to make them less tedious, learning weird quirks about decades old games, calming voice to help me go to sleep, subtle humor, data analysis…you hit all my nerd points. Thanks for your content!
I made my own Pokemon tabletop RPG. Your data analysis helped my mind set with my data analysis as I built the system. It’s pretty much done held together by duct tape and love for the game… like Gen 1 🥰🙃 -so now I go to your videos while I’m driving, working on my mtg decks and prepping for the next session of the pokemon game. And when I’m trying to figure out any small problems that seem to come up like corner cases etc
I like how different you, MDB, and JRose all are in the content that you make. JRose seems to be more interested in the can this seemingly impossible thing be possible and how painful will it end up being, MDB is just casually challenging himself to what he finds interesting Pokémon challenges, and you are trying to be analytical in a way that makes sense to you in order to determine who can beat the different Pokémon games the fastest.
I definitely see myself on the "I also enjoy breaking down singleplayer Pokemon to a fine science" side of why I watch your content, if I had the time or patience to do these kinds of runs I definitely would have by now. I love just learning about this kinda stuff, and having someone break it down to the nitty gritty is scratches that itch.
the reason I watch your content is because: A) nostalgia (used to play Pokemon Crystal like an addict) B) it's the only type of content that helps me go to sleep peacefully (too much stress in adult life) People don't understand what it was like been born around 1990 and playing Pokemon on your GameBoy.
I love data, tables and diagrams, comparisons and all that stuff. Your videos scratch that itch like no other creator does for pokemon. I usually have your videos on, kind of like a comfort movie in the evening or on weekends. The kind of movie you have seen multiple times but put on to have something on while playing a game or something to relax. And then when it gets interesting, I stop playing and watch in a more focused way. Usually when data is involved, new cool strategies, rankings and comparisions, certain fights or pokemon that I really like or am interested in. Thank you for all the work you are doing!
Hi Scott, I've been working on a tabletop RPG for almost two years now and as I've been chiseling away at player powers, enemy stat blocks, and a ton of dice rolling and probability crunching, I put you on my second monitor. Seeing a fellow statistics nerd break down my favorite childhood games while I'm creating these formulae for rule sets reminds me of the stories and worlds I'd create in my adolescence, which is the reason I started making my TTRPG in the first place. With the beginning of your video I just felt I had to share. Been watching for over two years, but during this project especially your videos continue to help me stay focused.
In his Ponyta run, JRose talks about how Gen 1 has such an engaging narrative for videos. You have a major roadblock early on (Brock), the mid-game gets easier and then the final third can be really difficult. And then you have runs where it's backwards. I enjoy JRose's videos because of his incredible storytelling and narration skills and then I found my way to your channel Scott. I appreciate your use of strategy and in-depth data analysis and watching you grow as a storyteller and narrator with your own unique style has been a real treat. Anyone remember how Scott used to call the rival's Jolteon the "punk rock doggo" or how he would describe enemy Pokemon in a more literal way "I knock out the bird and then he sends out". My favorite runs to watch are the ones that are difficult but not impossible (think like Geodude or Rhydon in Gen 1). I especially like when you have to come up with creative solutions to solve problems, utilize calculated risk and devise small ways to make the run more efficient and therefore faster. Please keep making videos Scott! I love your work!
Scott! First off, thanks for the amazing 4 years. I cannot believe it has been that long. During the pandemic, I did my first Professor Oak challenge in US/UM and boy did it turn me on to a lot of content on UA-cam. Nuzlockes, Professor Oak challenges and of course, solo runs. I watched a ton of MDB and Chaotic Meatball and when I came across your videos, they were just....exactly what I was looking for! I've watched nearly every single video of yours and really loved them. They aren't mindless videos in the background for me, they are truly enjoyable content that I look forward to on release day(s). The highlight of my work week, usually I save the Saturday videos for Mondays. Keep living the dream Scott, I truly appreciate all the work you do on these videos and for the community that you are now a huge part of. *nerd chills*
I started watching your videos around 3 and a half years ago when I got suggested one from UA-cam. I'm not sure there is a single channel I've watched every video and live stream of besides yours. I have a mix of watching the videos you post as background noise and watching them with full attention. I sometimes like to stop watching your content for a few months so I have a lot of videos to catch up on it truly depends on how I'm feeling at the time. The thing that brings me back everytime is how relatable you are when you are playing through the games and your genuine enjoyment and passion for the playthroughs with each pokemon! I, along with so many of your other viewers always appreciate the amount of time and effort you and your team put into the content you give us the opportunity of watching!
I find your videos pleasant. Your voice is calm and soothing, making for perfect background noise while I'm doing another task, but your content is genuinely interesting, so it's great when I want to focus in. Plus, it's clear that you're having fun while doing it, and that keeps me coming back.
I come back to your videos anytime I'm eating alone. I don't have many friends these days, and live in an unhealthy home with family, but your videos are a great way for me to feel a bit less isolated. I also put them on whenever I'm falling asleep since I can't handle the silence
Since you asked, I normally end up falling asleep to the three of you. And I don’t mean that negatively. I struggle with a consistent sleep schedule and have chronic low energy. But I like the three of you. I have a chemistry degree and scientific background/mindset and genuinely appreciate your approach. I wouldn’t do this myself but it’s interesting to see answers to questions I wouldn’t otherwise know. And as someone who quite literally grew up with the franchise (I’m 28), my favorite gen was always Gen 3.
I found the channel a few years back when i was really struggling with anxiety and depression. The channel became a consistant source of relaxing long form videos that i could play on my phone next to me to silence my thoughts and let me rest. I grew up with pokemon and know a lot about it, especially the first few gens, so challenges like this are interesting, and i know enough about the games to get invested and make semi educated guesses about what might happen. I often come back now, even though most of my mental health struggles are behind me, because its comfortable and interesting
I come back because of your personality and I like seeing the optimized playthroughs you do! Mdb was my intro to the style and I really love jroses videos. Both are great and I keep all three of you on my list of priority watches
Your content is genuinely so well done from end to end and at this point its very comforting to consume and i usually have it on in the background of my at home gym while i work out. Although i do watch the video in between sets lol i watch during meals and even listen while driving home from work sometimes. Please keep doing what youre doing. You have the perfect voice, knowledge, and personality. Love it 😊
My favorite part of your videos are you total break down and understanding of the games mechanics and how to use them to your advantage and even when you have almost no options you have built a great community to help find different choices and it’s just all a joy to watch. Also I usually listen to these video while I’m at work by myself. Otherwise if not working I’ll put them on whilst eating dinner and desert.
Yes, i'm watching your videos while doing house work, yes - I do watch them because I'm curious if you can beat the game with each pokemon and yes - I have nostalgia from chilhood. I didn't play pokemon for a long time though. I'm watching instead of playing - that let's me do my things during I feel like playing, haha! Also I like your way you do express things. Thanks Scott, you're great!
For me, I found your content I would guess about 4 years back and at the time I was anxious for Scarlet and Violet and living for Pokémon. Since then, your content has given me an opportunity to relax whenever I need it. I look forward every week for your next video to grab my favourite snack and unwind. You've given me, and many others judging by the comments a safe space to share our love for Pokémon, decompress from whatever is happening in our lives, and even learn a few things along the way. Thank you for everything you do Scott, I can't wait for the next decade of videos!
Been a subscriber since Dec 2020, and havent missed many videos since. I've enjoyed solo playthroughs for some time, but I remember even back then that it was frustrating watching other playthroughs missing obvious optimizations, making similar mistakes over and over, or resorting to consistent but slow and boring strategies. You've always had a mind towards improvement of your play and engaging with the community through tooling and sharing strategies. Your analysis, presentation, and the way you make light of mistakes without going over the top with it make your content unique and easy to watch for hours.
From what I can tell we're close in age because I've been playing since Gen 1. Your voice is soothing, I enjoy seeing the different runs you've done and I've heavily enjoyed seeing your run UI change and update as you move through the different generations as well. I know I've been subbed to your channel since your early Gen 1 runs. I probably got suggested your page because I watch a lot of Nuzlockes but you have impressed and become a comfort channel for me over the years. Just know whenever you drop a video I'm gonna take time to drop a like and watch the run through to the end. Keep it up Scott.😄🙌
Damn dude you remind me how old I'm getting. Been watching since you were around 20k. And it has been a helluva ride watching you jump from generation to generation and re learn the strats. I watch your videos for the same reason why I watch ai voiced presidential d&d videos. It's entertaining and nostalgic
All of the above surface reasons. Not only do I enjoy the content and have it playing on a second monitor while I’m gaming but I also put you on when I’m heading to bed. As you said relaxing voice and I don’t have to worry about random loud noises or anything jolting me awake. And usually I’ll go through and rewatch anything I fell asleep to because I genuinely do also want to know how runs went or what Pokémon was faster lol. Great content over the few years Iv been here. Keep it up Scott!
Why I watch: • It helps me relax when I need a break • It's really nice to hear in the background while doing the dishes or cleaning • It feels both nostalgic and refreshing to watch (the solo running format can feel very different from a regular playthrough) • A lot of these playthroughs, if not all, are very fun to watch • The data analysis and comparison is always interesting to see • It's always exciting when you're rooting for a specific pokémon to get a good time
I think the reason I keep coming back to watch your videos is for a few reasons. You have a solid on-camera personality with a calming voice, I get to learn about more about my favorite franchise while optimizing my own personal play, and lastly, you’ve inspired me personally to do challenge runs, even if they aren’t solo runs. I’ve done multiple very challenging monotype runs in the past year all because your challenges inspired me to do so.
I love your content ! It’s on in the background almost every day. You have helped respark such a joy in this Franchise lately that has been gone for so many years with the newer games . Thank you
I watch you because you combine two of my own passions to create something that’s so raw and amazing it’s unbelievable and not many people will appreciate it. (Data analysis and Pokemon) I love you Scott, hope you never stop making these videos
The main thing I enjoy about your vids is that you speak in a soothing tone, and you practically never use profanity, so it’s safe for me kids to listen in while a watch a vid of yours while I do house chores. Keep up the good work!
I think you sell yourself a little bit short in terms of motives for watching your content. I keep coming back because you're very serious and passionate about showcasing the abilities of every Pokemon in these games, and operate under the philosophy that every Pokemon is somebody's favourite Pokemon and deserves care and attention. That's something not even Gamefreak themselves do these days. I also enjoy your playthroughs for a reason you've mentioned really enjoying as well, which is that you enjoy coming up with unique solutions to solving Pokemon's problems. Using Larvitar and Pupitar's access to Sandstorm to help them beat Falkner, using Curse+Agility to sweep Red with the Dragonite line, using weird Bulk Up sets to beat Steven Stone in these runs. It's genuinely very fun watching you be innovative and creative in your systemic and scientific approach. As others have said, I'm also in sciences and statistics myself so watching you apply it to one of my most beloved childhood game series is genuinely a lot of fun. Thanks for all the years of good memories, Scott.
To answer your questions to the audience: 1) I watch for all of the reasons you described, but my top reason is to see the game "scientifically" demolished I guess, and see how the Pokemon fare overall. 2) I normally watch when eating. For normal Scott's Thoughts videos, watching on 3x speed is about the length of time it takes for me to finish a meal, but for the vs videos like this one, it usually takes me 2-3 meals to watch.
I think the reason I watch your videos is specifically to see the process of how your strategies evolve between runs. I think in general Pokemon solo challenges are fun to have on as background noise but I do try to tune in closely for particularly important fights, but I think the most fun part is just seeing how things change once you've felt out what a Pokemon is capable of and try out new ideas to make them better in follow up playthroughs. In particular I do really enjoy watching a Pokemon that got an awful time and struggled a lot in its first playthrough come back and show what its really capable of with new tricks and optimizations. The Yellow Venonat playthrough comes to mind as one that I thought was just going to be terrible but there were actually ways to make it like... better than you' think it is at a glance. This does make the Platinum/FireRed series a bit less fun, but there's a certain appeal in watching you evolve as a player too, the FireRed runs you do now feel night and day compared to the early ones and you're not even doing second playthroughs yet. The moment I saw Camerupt actually outspeeding a good chunk of the enemy Pokemon, I began to think it might do better than I was expecting on future playthroughs, but I did not think it was going to get a near sub-1:20 time, something that's 100% possible for it with a better pre-Mauville rival. Eruption is a crazy move. I think this goes to show that while slow frail mixed attacker is a much maligned archetype in competitive pokemon, it can actually kind of work in solo running formats, as you can score fast KOs on such a wide variety of Pokemon with Fire and Ground STABs (Eruption in particular impressed me) and despite Camerupt's 40 base speed, there's enough speed boosts throughout the run and the enemy pokemon are slow enough it works out. Very cool to see Camerupt do so well when you'd think the type combination and stats would be horrible for it.
I'll usually fall asleep to these videos actually. I can't really put into exact words why that is but they're comforting in a way and give me something to focus on when my brain won't go to sleep.
Why do I keep coming back? Because I have a sick obsession with min-maxing in games in a way that should drain all the fun out of it, but never does, and your channel is just the personification of that.
Hey Scott, what I like most is how your channel evolved, it's really good youtube content, really well produced, although the streams are fun too. Your display and the software part are amazing, when the damage started changing according to weakness and effectiveness I was blown away, so cool. Also I'm really invested in the competition aspect of the tierlists (especially Yellow) and want to see them all ranked. I love the trainers illustrations, keep them coming!
I keep coming back because I've been around since the beginning, it's a comfort of knowing a constant! And your voice is calming lol has helped me through my second round of college and university through my late 20&early 30s
Your content is like ASMR to me. I’ve always loved Pokémon, and not having the time to actually sit down and play, it’s amazing to have content to keep up the nostalgia. I’ve watched every one of your videos, and most of the streams, and of all channels on UA-cam I most look forward to your releases. It gets my mind off of the stresses of life, and I am very appreciative of what you do here. Thank you Scott.
For the past 3 years I've been following your content and videos quite consistently, and as someone who also grew up playing and watching Pokemon i just wanted to thank you for being a source of relaxation, relatability and overall fun; especially during my major depression days. I often watch your videos in bed right after going to sleep and it has really helped with my anxiety and panic attacks. Keep up the good work Scott!! (Waiting for more Umbreon videos hopefully soon haha)
Not sure if you’re still reading all the comments but I want to say that these runs are getting well written Scott. I know you said you were trying to improve them with stuff like foreshadowing, and it definitely worked out with this one when you looped back to your intro in the second runs. I’m not surprised with the placings though, in my own experience, Camerupt is better than Sharpedo in-game in a few different games, where I’ve played them in both. I use your videos as audio during work, but I enjoy seeing how things get optimized and what strategies work best whether they’re surprising or not. Of course the unique ones are always the most entertaining.
Woohoo! An extra long Scott's thoughts video. Love your content because I learn so much about pokemon and you put so much effort into this kinda stuff. The data collection, the overlay , the script it's all so great! Super proud to be supporting you on patreon. Keep up the great work man
I enjoy the intellectual challenge of creating an optimal game plan to overcome the unexpected challenges! You do a great job of highlighting what is your expectations, what can go wrong and options to overcome it. I usually watch the videos during a cardio session at the gym (exercise bike) where I can pay more attention to the video when needed. Love the channel and excited for daily December!
I've been here since your starting gen 2 bug videos and still love seeing your work and progress! I love actually watching through everything and then being able to put them on for background later. Love the channel!
These solo challenge videos are both interesting and comforting to me. I'll watch new videos by myself in their entirety, and put on old ones to help me fall asleep. Thanks for continuing to be a bright spot in my day. I'm so excited for Daily December!
That strategy for Steven with Sharpedo was truly wild. I love it. As for why I watch, I tend to use your videos as background noise to fall asleep to, but sometimes I will focus in properly.
i don't usually watch youtube videos with other people at all. usually i listen to your videos while i do other things, occasionally coming back when i hear something that makes me curious about the accompanying visuals. sometimes i'll focus almost wholly on the video if it's about pokemon that i'm particularly invested in, or if the match-up especially interests me. sometimes videos i've already watched will pop up in my recs again and i'll put them on as pure background noise just because it's long and you have such a nice, calm, thoughtful voice. unlike ASMR, it's relaxing without being soporific, at least for me.
Yeah, definitely enjoy watching people who both know about something and are passionate about it, giving me insights into something I wouldn't be able to task myself to, either mechanically or conceptually. Bonus that your pace, cadence, considerations, and running humor make it so enjoyable~
Hi Scott, I've watched your videos over the last few years because they're brought me a sense of peace and calm. I have a quite stressful job in a hospital (that I do enjoy) and I have been in a relationship that has brought me misery for years. Your videos have allowed me to escape that crappy relationship and just enjoy your calming voice with good, analytical decisions. I'm happy to say that I'm now in the middle of ending this crappy relationship, and much like no one expected Camerupt to do so well, no one expected me to leave and find happiness by myself. Thank you for the videos, and although I won't need them anymore to just get through a day, I look forward to just casually viewing.
Your content combines a passionate, well researched overcomplication of childhood games whose memories surge through many of your viewers and a soothing voice and vibe which is why I always come back. Even if I take a break for a while, I manage to make enough time to catch up and find out how you've solved the latest puzzles. The unique interactions you mentioned at the beginning of the video also give me "Nerd Chills," I get so excited when usually overlooked moves, abilities, and battle strategies have a chance to shine, however niche. Much of my watch time is passive or as a lullaby, which also works to make the content rewatchable if ever a drought. Keep it up Scott, I'm looking forward to Daily December greatly.
My reason why I always come back to those videos is, because the content premisse is so simple. Like taking a Pokemon and win the game in the best time. So whenever I like phaseout or do something in between the video I always come back and still know exactly what is going on in the video even if I miss something. So it's just the easiest to just have played if music is not enough engagement and also don't have to watch every minute to get what happens. I hope that makes sense for some of you :) Thanks for the great content Scott, I love your videos!
I usually keep your videos up on a second screen, a larger second screen as I too am a nerdy statistic musician, and I really really appreciate your overlay during your videos. I also enjoy all the nerdy stats that you toss in there, especially near the end. Please keep up the great work!
I like watching your videos because, in general, I just like seeing solo challenges and what unique quirks arise from it. You never really know what Pokemon will have what kind of problem and how they have to overcome it. But also you, in particular just happen to have a very good personality & a presentation style that's only improved more over time. Your visual presentation, editing, speech, etc. Come a long way since those first few videos. You manage to be snappy without being overedited to the point of distraction, you edit awkward pauses and such out seamlessly and any asides you make have a strong point wihout ruining video flow. I also think the shift from "can i" to "how fast can i" was a good one. You're basically do micro-speedruns* every time at this point and that's really interesting to see with all the information you present. No one else quiiiite does it like you do I like to watch your videos in the "foreground". I think there's more than enough going on to maintain interest (although I will admit, I often watch on double speed; thats not just you though). But I also like having it as a sort of middleground when I exercise; I can shift focus based on what I or you are doing pretty easily so it's something I can pay attention to the entire time without having to stop either you or what I'm doing.
I've been playing video games sense I was around 7-8 years old (I'm 32 now) Seeing people who enjoy video games as much as I do reassures me video game culture will never fade away. But what keeps me coming back to these videos week after week is I wanna see who is the best pokemon in what generation. I'm a complitionalest and I don't get to be that person. My daughters are playing Pokemon now. My 8 year old daughter is playing Legend of Zelda Wind Waker on my OG GameCube. I love those times I get with my daughters. But me I can't game as much as I want. So thank you for giving me a chance to enjoy games in another way.
I come back for the nostalga, the intricat playthroughs and your dry wit. I've been watching you cooking, cleaning or in the background while I'm playing long games like RDR2, Elden ring or even Pokemon or my own! Love your vids, and I look forward to more thoughts in the future!! Big Love!
Love watching your stuff when I'm meal prepping/cooking and tidying the kitchen, you're literally the soundtrack to my kitchen 👨🍳 keep up the great work Scott, love the depth you go into and the obvious passion you have for the Mon's
I watch a lot of these videos in the background while doing other things. At home--dishes, cleaning, etc, but also at work where I make beer and there's a lot of hurry up and wait/random downtime. It's like a chill pokemon podcast that scratches that data/analysis itch in my brain.
These videos are always engaging to me, bc I’ve played these games a bunch so even just the premise makes me think about how the Pokemon might perform, but playing these games isn’t my job so it’s fun to see how someone whose job it is now to do these type of runs shakes out. I’m always thinking to myself stuff like “I wouldn’t have made that move, I would’ve never gotten rid of amnesia” or something like that, but then I either get to see I was right or I was wrong, and the play Scott makes is most of the time much more optimal and interesting than what I was thinking b/c he’s playing all these Pokémon games more often than I am. Also you’re correct, Scott it’s nice to have background noise while I do literally anything uninteresting, and the knowledge that I can turn to the screen and know exactly where in the game you’re at is comforting to me. it’s the perfect level of investment where I feel comfortable. It’s also very funny when you tell us to look at the screen since you know so many of your audience watch like this. 😅 I appreciate all the videos, they’re very fun, and the amount of work that goes into them is incredible given how simple the premise is, so I appreciate the level of production quality that these videos exude. I feel like you’re always mentioning Jrose in your videos as a form of comparison, but your style is so much better. Jrose is always putting to much fake tension and acting into his videos, and I just think it’s so artificial that it becomes obnoxious. I’m never wondering IF Jrose will win or not, I know he will, that’s not engaging. So knowing that, it’s far more interesting to see how fast you can complete the game instead. And on top of that all the data you collect doing so makes for a way more interesting video in the long run. Anyway, this is super long tldr, keep up the good work!
Been a long time fan and have always wondered how often you run across shinies, mostly since I turn your videos on while I shiny hunt myself! Great content as always man, keep it up! December is gonna be wild!
I watch your videos with full attention. It's a highlight during my weekends or after a long day at work. I just love pokemon and data, and you're a good commentator, so the long form videos are perfect. When I was in Canada, I usually watched your videos on my smart TV, but in Japan I watch them on my phone before bed
Too be honest, I started watching you because you did videos of fully evolved pokemon instead of only hard or unrealistic challenges. I started to sponser you and then you improved insanely. For me its also the consistency and your voice. Thanks a lot, you make a lot of people happy with these videos😊
I like learning about games i like from odd angles. I like Scott. I think you are a charming and compelling protagonist who is respectful of the audience. And, i know it's not really your intention, but your videos are really great sleep aids for me. The repetitious nature of the runs and the landmarks on them creates a relaxing experience even in the more stressful runs.
I normally use your videos as a type of "radio" while doing something else. Your turn by turn commentary is so descriptive that I can follow along with the video with out actually looking at it. I kinda feel like an old man listening to a baseball game on a radio, but it gives my mind something to do while and it's honestly so entertaining listening to your game knowledge and observations.
Cannot believe I started watching you, Rose, and MDB right around the Pandemic. Crazy to see you grow from playing Yellow to getting married, to now. Congrats to your success! Your channel is definitely its own!
I know I am a bit late, but I didn't have the time for a 120 minute video until now. And to answer your question from the beginning: Of course I also just stumbled into this specific type of content through MDB playing ratata because that thing went viral. I always loved the narrated and edited gaming videos on UA-cam from the moment they came up in my feed for the first time, so I am generally in for this content. Now specifically why I watch you is your thoroughness and production quality. You put so much thought and analysis into your content trying out what works best for your pokemon, but even more so what works best for your tools, your voice, your visual, and wording. I love seeing your content become better with every video and I enjoy your thorough analysis of Pokemon a lot. What you do on your channel is effectively what I aspire to both when making my own little share of content as well as academically. I enjoy what you do a lot because it gives me a kind of special impression I won't get from other channels. I started watching you in like October of last year or so, so I immediately got flooded and spoiled by the sheer amount of high quality content you put out at that time and I was utterly impressed by the dedication! Also usually I actually watch your videos kind of actively. mostly before going to bed to calm down before actually lying down and putting my tech away or right after waking up while getting ready for the day and eating unless it is a long video like this one which I usually have open on the side while playing a relaxing game so i can put most of my attention into the video. Also I agree that you have a comfy voice. Originally I didn't like your voice over too much, but at some point something about your voice or your audio recording changed in a way that feels kind of subtle but very noticably made my personal watching experience way better. Thank you for making great content for all of us to watch. I hope you will have a good time in december, and aren't too stressed out!
Your voice is relaxing and easy to follow, so it works well for on the background(Such as while doing laundry or eating) or to watch it in shorter snippets, so I can focus on something elde when necessary. This however was a weird run, that I more than half the time was fully locked while following. One of my favourite Runs easily.
I’m scared of my own thoughts and that’s why I prefer scott’s thoughts
Underrated comment
@@sparkypikachu7776 it’s the top comment 😂
This was probably a joke but that’s literally the reason I’m watching this video right now. Need a distraction BAD 💀
I am as well and yes, this is actually true. And, Scott, you are a very good pokemon professor! :)
I'm not a scientist, but I also love both mountains of data and Pokemon.
And challenge runs un general
Lol Im also a scientist and I really like the methodology and rigour of the videos
Same!
There's never flashy or "over-the-top" commentary. Subtle jokes, straight talk, calmness. The occasional openness/honesty about your past struggles or thoughts.
Pure enjoyment
I love the subtle jokes, they’re so good
That's why we love him.
I think this really hits the nail on the head. His content is just so honest and sincere. I never once feel like he's portraying a character.
I felt like I was worthless as a father and started to have some really dark thoughts *cough cough no demonetization here*
I stumbled onto your videos by accident as something to play in my headphones while I held my crying child for hours at a time.
Hey man, you were there for her. That makes you dad #1. 💯
@StarDustForge 100% but during it just SUCKS 😂
> Finds a shiny
> Uses Skull Bash AND Rage
> Underdog wins
Bro did everything he listed at the beginning
Literally. Lovely video setup
Foreshadowing is a narrative device
It’s not just nice to have someone talking - it’s nice to have someone engaging, passionate about their product and not at all arrogant or overbearing. Take it from me - UA-cam says I’m in your top 0.1%!
May I ask, where can I find this metric/statistic? I'd love to know my percentage haha
Same!
@@georgiosvavliaras1066 if I go to the ‘You’ tab on the app, it shows me my ‘gaming recap’ for this year
Where do you see this?
@@georgiosvavliaras1066’you’ tab on the app has a Gaming Recap for me, should be the same for you
Why I watch: Basically, these videos are cozy.
There are several reasons why I watch these:
It's not just me! Can you recommend some others?
@@ronnyboi08 Scott's Thoughts and Pikasprey are my main ones, specifically Pikasprey Blue
For me it’s how you go into depth for each Pokémon and how it scratches my Brain in the right way
I love the deep dives into specific Pokemon/lines strengths and weaknessess!
Best wishes on achieving your doctorate!
37:14
Scott: Do you eat a meal while you watch my videos?
Me: **with a spoon in my mouth** Usually dinner
I would say that the tedious nature of playing Pokemon as a job would still be less tedious than a 9-5 factory job. That might be a reason why you do it!!
I’d argue most of the runs aren’t tedious at all! Beating the game is generally easy, but there is a lot of hidden strategy to doing it quickly
@ZealousPawn yeah and being able to play on an emulator on 3/4x speed really helps with it. Really helps with that tedious part of having to do extra training.
It really sort of helps that even when it is tedious, it is tedium he explicitly has accepted.
I watch these videos when I am either A) working B) going to sleep C) cooking or D) just sitting and want a long video to watch. I am realizing I just kinda click any time I see a pokemon I like in the thumbnail. lol
This is quite possibly your best intro yet, scripting, editing, pacing and just a little pinch of channel history/info.
Amazing work, keep it up! 5:47
I get irrationally excited when vs. videos drop
It’s pretty much done held together by duct tape and love for the game… like Gen 1 🥰🙃
-so now I go to your videos while I’m driving, working on my mtg decks and prepping for the next session of the pokemon game.
That's why they be the goats
I definitely see myself on the "I also enjoy breaking down singleplayer Pokemon to a fine science" side of why I watch your content, if I had the time or patience to do these kinds of runs I definitely would have by now. I love just learning about this kinda stuff, and having someone break it down to the nitty gritty is scratches that itch.
the reason I watch your content is because:
A) nostalgia (used to play Pokemon Crystal like an addict)
B) it's the only type of content that helps me go to sleep peacefully (too much stress in adult life)
People don't understand what it was like been born around 1990 and playing Pokemon on your GameBoy.
We're all just living the same life
Your voice! I used to watch other challenge Poketubers, but theyre all abit...hyper? Your voice is so calm and soothing!
Huh. I forgot your Fiance finally evolved into a Wife.
Sorry you have to go through all of that. I know how that is.
Why I watch:
• It helps me relax when I need a break
• It's really nice to hear in the background while doing the dishes or cleaning
• It feels both nostalgic and refreshing to watch (the solo running format can feel very different from a regular playthrough)
• A lot of these playthroughs, if not all, are very fun to watch
• The data analysis and comparison is always interesting to see
• It's always exciting when you're rooting for a specific pokémon to get a good time
I think the reason I keep coming back to watch your videos is for a few reasons.
(Data analysis and Pokemon)
I love you Scott, hope you never stop making these videos
1:46:42 ah yes, Hoenn. The region with too little water :)
To answer your questions to the audience:
1) I watch for all of the reasons you described, but my top reason is to see the game "scientifically" demolished I guess, and see how the Pokemon fare overall.
I need long form content to survive my job. And i like the content, the way you do what you do, and your voice. Data for the data gods.
I think it’s really neat to watch a lot of these Pokémon that I either enjoy or never gave a fair shake to being taken all the way to the end!
These solo challenge videos are both interesting and comforting to me. I'll watch new videos by myself in their entirety, and put on old ones to help me fall asleep. Thanks for continuing to be a bright spot in my day. I'm so excited for Daily December!
Scott: It's obvious who's going to win.
Videi: 1 hour 50 minutes!!!!
I love it!
That strategy for Steven with Sharpedo was truly wild. I love it.
As for why I watch, I tend to use your videos as background noise to fall asleep to, but sometimes I will focus in properly.
Scott knows me too well. Dishes, laundry, cooking always have Scott in my head haha
i don't usually watch youtube videos with other people at all. usually i listen to your videos while i do other things, occasionally coming back when i hear something that makes me curious about the accompanying visuals. sometimes i'll focus almost wholly on the video if it's about pokemon that i'm particularly invested in, or if the match-up especially interests me. sometimes videos i've already watched will pop up in my recs again and i'll put them on as pure background noise just because it's long and you have such a nice, calm, thoughtful voice. unlike ASMR, it's relaxing without being soporific, at least for me.
Man. I just wanna be here with you and geek out about something my friends and family gave up decades ago. My inner child is still alive and well.
I hope that makes sense for some of you :)
Thanks for the great content Scott, I love your videos!
No one else quiiiite does it like you do
I like to watch your videos in the "foreground".
Oh my gosh, the amount of panic I felt watching you throw pokeballs at that shiny Maril 😳 please grab a few ultras for future runs!!!!
Scott your storytelling in this particular video was extraordinary. This vs. Video is my favourite yet!❤
I appreciate all the videos, they’re very fun, and the amount of work that goes into them is incredible given how simple the premise is, so I appreciate the level of production quality that these videos exude.
