      not to mention all the benzene and other hydrocarbons he is literally just releasing into the world which does so much more harm than the plastic he claims to be cleaning up.

      @@crispy9175from what? Do you get cancer from pumping your gas or changing the oil in your car? Or do you get cancer from drinking from the plastic bottles he turns into fuel? Or how about the microwaves? Your home microwave is shielded to keep you safe. This is basically ran by an upscaled microwave and also has upscaled shielding. There’s no difference here from the things we’re already exposed to daily, so I don’t get where the worry of cancer is coming from

      @@savaasio Something useful is burning the plastic to get the energy out again. Not transforming 100 joules to 10 joules to then burn that as fuel with another loss in efficiency.

      ​@@josephgaspar2944 It is addressing the accumulation of waste plastic by trying to make a cycle for material re-use. Take the used plastic break the polymer molecules down to their chemical inputs to re-use and make other things instead of dumping used plastics in holes in the ground or into the ocean.
      He's also working on the energy efficiency problem. It's not something that can be solved overnight.

      What you said may all be true, but it doesn't mean he should stop trying to expand on what is already done. Ingenuity spawns creation, the same people who say spending billions to go to space and mars is worthless are the same ones saying stuff like this is pointless. Sometimes the end result isn't the goal but the process is where you find all the gems.

As the saying goes "all great ideas have already been thought of, there's no new original ideas," let the kid discover his own path and maybe he will find something out people glossed over. You just never know, you can say it's been researched to death but it doesn't mean everything has been discovered about it either. It's not your money, time, or effort. You are only contributing a negative morale to the kid, easier to just let him do him.

    Can you use 3d printed materials like petg, pla, abs or pet? Does it matter the kind of plastic?

      It matters a LOT. Some plastics will produce far more toxic byproducts than others. PVC, for example, would be extremely dangerous for him to process this way without a way to clean out the byproducts, which can be up to 60% of the yield.

    To solve your viscosity problem; if you could run multiple runs of tubing through your crude container like a radiator and find a way to run heated liquid through that tubing to keep the crude warm like a cargo ship does with their long range fuel. But u would just need a low energy way to heat that liquid.

    Theirs no way in physics you can produce more energy then you put in. It's just impossible in this universe.

    In some north Mechanic shops, we use used oil to heat the shop, and it was strained in a simular way, its been such a minutes since that, trying to think of the whole mechanism , cause it also did other things

    Get a heat gun for evenly distributed heat across the bottom of that barrel. Over time, a torch will compromise the structure of that vessel.
    You scared the shit out of me having an open flame concentrated on that system.

      with a really good catalytic converter, probably not terrible. It's somewhat like an oil burning stove, extremely bad for anything near it unless there's a converter and then it's still bad anyway.

      Specific gravity of the compounds he's separating are all too similar, and a centrifuge is an extremely expensive piece of equipment.

    There is still going to be some water in the oil due to formation of alcohols, they work as phase transfer agents, much of that water will be separated in distillation but may still be some azeotropes of water in the fraction around 100° C ±30 . You can also use your distillation device to get some oil and alcohol back from the water collected.
    I'm sure you'll see all this in testing.
    I would like to know the actual numbers myself when you get to it.
    I have ideas how to handle it, I would like to hear yours.
    HDPE , no wonder you're getting so much gas and so little liquid.

    I’m sorry, you can’t clean that water with activated charcoal. You’ve created serious waste, you have to have a company dispose of that.

      whilst probable, that isn't necessarily true. Depending on the contaminants themselves, all a company will do is filter it through activated charcoal anyway. even if they use other processes, Charcoal filtration is one of the most effective ways to remove toxins.

    While I think it’s awesome you’ve been able to do this, I worry that we might be addressing the wrong problem. I think that if overall we should be striving to remove as many petroleum based products from our lives and planet as possible, and that recycling plastic into crude oil will only perpetuate the negative feedback loop of spewing carbon into the atmosphere that does need to be there.

      I think he used to say it was 1 in to 4 out, that was his old system and he might just have his numbers completely wrong. In his defense, the plastic already had a ton of energy put in to convert it to plastic and was going to stay in that state anyway.

    Would you be able to make a burner out of some old copper tubing using the natural gas that you have just created from the reactor?..... It would be the easiest self-sustaining method until you can get a proper burner and it's relatively cheap. Just like five bucks for a strip of copper and some plugs to mount up a fuel line and boom.
