It matters a LOT. Some plastics will produce far more toxic byproducts than others. PVC, for example, would be extremely dangerous for him to process this way without a way to clean out the byproducts, which can be up to 60% of the yield.

To solve your viscosity problem; if you could run multiple runs of tubing through your crude container like a radiator and find a way to run heated liquid through that tubing to keep the crude warm like a cargo ship does with their long range fuel. with a really good catalytic converter, probably not terrible. It's somewhat like an oil burning stove, extremely bad for anything near it unless there's a converter and then it's still bad anyway.
There is still going to be some water in the oil due to formation of alcohols, they work as phase transfer agents, much of that water will be separated in distillation but may still be some azeotropes of water in the fraction around 100° C ±30 . You can also use your distillation device to get some oil and alcohol back from the water collected. I'm sure you'll see all this in testing. I would like to know the actual numbers myself when you get to it. I have ideas how to handle it, I would like to hear yours. HDPE , no wonder you're getting so much gas and so little liquid.

Specific gravity of the compounds he's separating are all too similar, and a centrifuge is an extremely expensive piece of equipment.
