This is one of the reasons I joined the Army in 1983.....this came out in 1979 and I still remember the theme music here.....at that time I was way to young to join, but these commercials were a positive form of brain washing for sure....the military changed my life for the better......
Everytime I hear this it reminds of a beautiful young lady friend of mine who was in the army her name was Johanna I affectionately called her G I Johanna, and she really loved the army👍🙂
The music and the commercial gave me chills.....takes me back to watching tv as a kid.....had no idea a few years later I would be a member of the Big Green Machine...

My first unit in the Army was with these same 8 inch self propelled Artillery pieces in Germany as a communications specialist in 1982. I don't remember this commercial back then but it was right on with accuracy except in 1982 we had the BDU fatigues much better looking then the plain green crap they had prior to the bdu's
@@offmts I was in 1983 to 1985... saw a khakis only one time in the mess hall in 1984 in Hawaii.....he was a warrant officer I think...weird how some things stay with you.....when I saw him I was like "What the fuck is he wearing"......
"But when you're off duty in Europe, you're in Europe." Seriously great advertising 👍

Stripes (1981) brought me here. Thanks, Columbia Pictures.

Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines.... what a great place, what great place to start!!!🤔
Gives me chills....I joined in 83, but this laid the groundwork for sure....
Ppl got a real kick out of this at the the theatre. This commercial was still being ran when STRIPES came out.
Yeah, Bill Murray was watching the advert in the movie.

Was just watching STRIPES. Even though this isn't the same Army commercial Bill Murray was watching. The music is the same.
Yeah, the same music.
STRIPES
Thanks so much for posting this! Been looking for a while. Love the music.

This is the kind of commercials the services should be airing not the woke BS you see these days.
You are absolutely right. Then you have parents that dont have military experience convince their kids who are planning on enlisting to not join.
Yes I totally agree with you, so sad where I society is going today. God bless our great Republic for future generations 🙏🇺🇸
Damn right!! 👍😮
"YOUR MAMMAS, ARE NOT HERE, TO TAKE CARE OF YOU NOW"!

I tell ya what, being stationed in Europe is about as good as it gets!
Do you think they have any of those EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicles ?
Winger took off with it.
Wow❗ These guys are 59, early 60's/late 60's, now.
Nope, older than that. I'm one of "those guys."
Redleg!
Stripes 😆
They’re getting after it with that 107 😂
It's an M110.
@@garycolvin58 the lack of a muzzle brake made me second guess that.
When did the US Army stop wearing khakis? Did they still wear them in 1980?
I suppose not. 1980 was 40 years ago.
@@joel8583 No sh## shurlock!
I got out in 1983 and still had them, but they we're being phased out.
