    Yugioh's First true Archetype was Gravekeeper's in Pharonic Guardian, followed by Amazoness in Magician's Force.
    Harpie was considered a Series up until it got legacy support in LOTG, since all it's support cards were focused on Harpie Lady specifically and you couldn't really run a dedicated deck around it. same reason Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes weren't considered archetypes until they got The Dark Illusion and Shining Victories respectively.

    The fact their names don't line up at all in Japanese is giving me heinous Monarch vibes, because the Monsters are actually separate from the Spell/Traps by literally a single character.

    Nice if they would get a retrain. Maybe call them "Nightmare Clown" or something. Each can be special summoned from the hand and opt quick effect they can change the battle position of a monster you control. Each Clown have a different effect when switched to Attack or switched to Defense. Maybe they can have a ringmaster Link that, even though cannit change its position, enable the rest of the Clowns by providing extra switching.

      We dont typically nickname decks with certain playstyles with an archetype who popularized it.
      We usually do for single cards like Towers for an unaffected boss monster, Stratos for a monster that searches, ROTA for a spell that searches, Garnet for any monster needed in an engine that you dont wanna draw, etc.

    Well, technically with the re-releases of old cards, where we get retrains of older cards like in Legacy of Destruction, I wouldnt be suprised if they would return as something new like the Memento cards are. Or get a total revamp as a sort of new arch-type where they are called "Pierro" cards or something. Imagine it like "Pierro - The Magical Dream Clown" or something and have that play with positions to counter opponents plays. I would like that :D

    I’ve always said it, I’ve always meant it- designating a card’s archetype in its name has always been DUMB! We keep finding new real estate elsewhere on the cards, stick an archetype modifier there.

    • @Zetact_
      @Zetact_ 6 місяців тому +4

      The earliest archetype (Toon) tried that but ended up just putting things in the name anyway. In part because it allows for consistent categories that include backrow. Designating archetypes via name allows for using quotation marks that make parsing slightly easier. Ever since adopting archetype design it's been largely easy to give archetypes coherent naming conventions without it seeming forced or awkward.
      I think that with some recent archetype design though that a grammatical update to "related" cards would make reading cards easier. With series like the Yubel support, Shining Sarcophagus, Flame Swordsman, Adventurer token, etc. Instead of a card having to say for instance, "1 card that mentions "Visas Starfrost"" it can just say, "1 "Visas Starfrost" related card."

    • @ZeothTheHedgehog
      @ZeothTheHedgehog 5 місяців тому

      @@Zetact_I don't see how that would make reading any easier as I doubt there'd be much confusion what are card that mention a specific word.

    • @Zetact_
      @Zetact_ 5 місяців тому

      @@ZeothTheHedgehog It's just to cut down on text mostly, and to prevent things that sound kinda awkward. Confusion might be reduced as a result but it's mainly a card text thing and just codifying a type of mechanic that's becoming increasingly common in a way that would be quickly written and read.
      Take the recent Clear World cards, specifically Clear Wall, since that one is particularly obnoxious with "monsters that mention."
      "If "Clear World" is on the field: You can add 1 monster from your Deck to your hand that mentions it. You can only use this effect of "Clear Wall" once per turn. Monsters that mention "Clear World" cannot be destroyed by battle, also you take no battle damage from battles involving them. While you control a Level 7 or higher monster that mentions "Clear World", all effects of "Clear World" are applied to your opponent regardless of the Attributes they control."
      Change that to
      "If "Clear World" is on the field: you can add 1 "Clear World" related monster from your deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Clear Wall" once per turn. "Clear World" related monsters cannot be destroyed by battle, also you take no battle damage from battles involving them. While you control a level 7 or higher "Clear World" related monster, all effects of "Clear World" are applied to your opponent regardless of the Attributes they control."
      The actual amount of text is lower but more relevant is that it phrases the order of the words in a more similar manner to regular archetypes.
      Also the added benefit is that it makes more noticeable cuts on certain effects.
      Gadget Trio:
      "If this card is Normal or Special Summoned, you can add 1 "Shining Sarcophagus" or 1 Spell/Trap that mentions it from your deck to your hand."
      "If this card is Normal or Special Summoned, you can add 1 "Shining Sarcophagus" related Spell/Trap from your deck to your hand."
      The reduction of text in this case is slightly more because Shining Sarcophagus is inherently a "Shining Sarcophagus" related spell.

    • @ZeothTheHedgehog
      @ZeothTheHedgehog 5 місяців тому

      @@Zetact_ eh, while I like this style of shortening I don't believe it's needed for this. If anything I think it's more suitable for cards that support an archetype but don't mention a specific card's name to search them with.
      Like take the Rokket Spells/Traps for example, none them mention a Rokket by name so they can't be searched, but if you made a card say "Add 1 "Rokket" related Spell/Trap", now you can search them. Or the Shinobird's level 4 Ritual can just say "Spirit Monster related card"
      And "Mention" is already a keyword in of itself, as it replaced "Specifically lists [the card(s)]". And doing it your way will probably make things like Eye of Timeaus whose unsearchable because it mentions "Dark Magician" the archetype rather than the card.
