    I love our macerator. I watch you gravity guys with the gloves and hoses and rinsing and disassembly. The macerator is much simpler and just as effective. There are three commandments to LTV rving. Take the black cap off macerator hose, diesel in a diesel engine and retract the awning before moving the vehicle. Pretty basic. Enjoy your van man !

    Just ran across the channel. We are passionate 2017 FX owners from Flower Mound with expresso wood and the glamor package. Appreciate your channel and insights. The diesel generator is a must. It's such a pain to get the propane filled that would make a propane generator a deal-breaker. Really wish there was a Bluetec clean-burning diesel generator. We purchased an exhaust to take our fumes above the roof AND sound insulated the generator. We use the macerator to dump the RV in a cleanout at our house which is nice. The macerator does slow down the flow taking longer to dump. We use the little table on every trip. It becomes the front office for my wife while I occupy the back office. Looking forward to more detail on the fan upgrades....

      @@jeffs8269 I did a couple of things. First of all, I found that the casing rattled quite a bit creating noise so I used some 1/4" adhesive foam to stop the vibration (primarily on the inside of the removable front cover). Then I covered the entire generator and inside of the door opening with self-adhesive sound-proof audio squares (the little pyramid ones) from Amazon leaving just seams so I can remove the access panel to change the oil. It looks a bit cheezy when you open the compartment but It dropped the decibels significantly. I will try and post some photo's on the LTV Facebook site when the weather gets better. I did all this on the fly while traveling last Summer and it has held up better than I expected.

    LTVs are what first attracted me to RVing several years ago. They are all beautiful, and make a spectacular presentation wherever you go. They are just as practical and nice as an Airstream Atlas, but $100K cheaper with less frou frou like a wine chiller, or a teak shower attachment. The options are pretty much uniformly excellent and hard to resist. I would only buy a Wonder as it's a Ford chassis in diesel or the powerful twin turbo V6 with AWD. It's just my wife, our two dogs and me, but after comparison shopping, no oven plus the small tanks just did not fit our travel purposes. I think LTV offers a slide on one of its MB based units with a Murphy bed. If it could add a slide, and add bigger tanks, the new Wonder RL or RT would be close to perfect. When I looked at a Wonder, the sales person would not move a dime off MSRP (unheard-of) because I wouldn't tell him up front if it was a cash or financed purchase. Even though I love LTVs, I think I would have been unhappy with it in the end due to its limitations.

    • @Pagosa
      @Pagosa  3 роки тому

      It is definitely an RV with limitations. My Unity FX has a slide and makes the roominess feel so much more than a 25 foot Motorhome. Small tanks are a bummer, but there is no perfect RV. Larger tanks mean larger RV. LTVs have ovens in the form of a convection oven / microwave combo. We never use it, but I understand it is better than a typical propane RV oven as it’s convection and cooks faster and more even. LTV demand is seeing zero or little movement off of MSRP, so if someone wants one, it’s dealer market for sure.

    • @tamratoussaint6668
      @tamratoussaint6668 3 роки тому

      Re movement off MSRP: It’s the current supply/demand now, of course, but in the pre-Covid era, my price research revealed a different RV marketing approach by Canadian manufacturers vs US manufactures. Assumption for US is almost always a >22-28% markup on MSRP so dealers can announce immediate “dealer discount price” before hard negotiations start. I don’t see Canadian class B & C manufactures following this pattern. Fun fact: per Andrew Steele, base LTV Unity MSRP in 2010 was $120,480; in 2021, $140,000 - and standard build included MANY features US manufactures consider as upgrades. IMHO, LTV builds them well and prices them a lot closer to true cost/value, so pre-Covid US discounts were $0-$5k with @ 2 reports of $10k, irrespective of cash or financing option chosen.

    Great video, well presented and stated. We’ve had a number of RVs in the past, one with a macerator. What I liked about it was the hose was much easier to deal with, similar to handling a shower wand. What I didn’t like about it was 1) it eventually broke and 2) it was slow which made it a pain when leaving state and national parks where you had a dump station. My current rig doesn’t have one and I’m perfectly happy with the gravity hose.

    I have a macerator, 2018 Serenity, yes I had a problem with it, turned out during production of the rig someone , somehow left or dropped 2 large cloth rags into the black tank, fortunately we had flushed the black tank before we arrived home.
    I filled the black tank to 20% full drove down to our farm , 150 miles away , went to flush the tank again and the macerator ground to a stop. Took the macerator off found a heavy cotton rag imbedded in it, not fun to clean up, put the gravity hose on , power flushed the system and found 2 more rags in the black tank. Since then no problems, 10 minutes to dump tanks, wouldn’t be without the Macerator

      The Leisure Travel Van would be an excellent choice for you then. To run the AC while not hooked up to shore power, you would have to get some pretty serious Lithiums, prob 600 amp hours worth and a soft start. I put a soft start on mine and can operate on a 15 amp household outlet. To fit enough batteries for the AC, you will prob want to look at the Wonder Twin bed as it has a massive storage area in the back. My FX will only fit 2 batteries, but I've seen some people make mods to fit more. Good luck!

    A two dollar switch spliced into a single wire and a half-inch hole drilled in to the surrounding bezel of the fan to mount the switch, will make the rain sensor work only when you want it to. Easy fix.
    The lighter Maple color and loose Square-cushions and velcro makes the LTV look like it was built by IKEA... I'd rather have the Espresso wood color and recliners.
    I've read on the FB pages that the Side-door Key-Fob eats batteries like crazy and if the batteries die or the lock malfunctions... and you don't have your chassis Key-fob outside with you... you're now having to break into your LTV.

    If I were ordering a LTV, I would not order the key fob for the house door. It's now like $400, but the only thing it unlocks or locks is the house door. If it was locking and unlocking all the bays too as well as the Mercedes doors -- then that would be a game changer. I would order it in a heartbeat. The Mercedes van already comes with a separate fob --- then you have 2 big bulky fobs to carry. If you have kids with you, then can't get in the house without their own fob. Better to just use keys which are very easy to carry or leave one in a lockbox in a bay.

    OMG, we're gonna run out of propane. Not really. Last year we started a trip from SOCAL in August for a four month trip to the Canadian Maritimes. Ran the refrigerator on propane almost exclusively because when it's hot the 12V house batteries will not keep the frig cold. Particularly with the sun beating down on the the side of the coach and the temps over 90F. Ran the generator the last hour on the road to cool the house. When we were in Canada, we used the furnace three or four nights a week. Six weeks into the trip we had used 40% of the tank. Could have easily gone another week or ten days. Or to put that into perspective, another 15 or 20 propane fill stations. Get the macerator. Saves time and it's cleaner. Don't put something down the toilet that will break it.

We ordered ours with two Fantastik Fans but I saw your recommendation about the Maxx air fan. I checked it out and I agree. They appear to be better. My question is, If we choose not to get the Fantastik Fans in the build, will the holes have to be cut in the roof to add the Maxx Fans or do they just blank off the spot where the fans would have went?

What are your impressions of the driving experience of your Unity? I see lots of comments online about the need for suspension upgrades (such as shocks or Sumo springs). And if you are counting on it and leave your pets in, then not a good thing. So if we leave them in the coach, we have it plugged in, or our Lithionics battery system runs the coach for up to 4 hours. Also if we are at a place where the generator is not welcome, then the battery system is a dream as well. you can learn more about our setup at pagosasupply.co/lithium

I am flipping back and forth with modifying the order and getting the diesel gen over the LP gen. I am in Central TX where it is just as hot in the summer and plan to dry camp some of the time. I was under the impression the LP with auto start would be good for camping where the Gen / AC would not run all night and start / stop as needed based on the temp vs running the diesel gen all night to power the AC. As well I am not confident in the supply of LP in some of the areas we plan on going. What has been your experience with the diesel gen running the AC all night in the hot Texas heat? I haven't ran it all night, but there would be no problem with it. It is extremely loud, so a good nights sleep might not be there. The diesel will shut itself off if your fuel tank gets to 1/4 tank. I'm not sure of usage either. A commenter below said her propane would last quite long. Don at LTV is the one who told me I needed the diesel, so assume he knows something we don't. It is almost 4k more to get it over the LP though, so don't think you could go wrong with LP if you wanted to save the dough.
