    Wow this was super help full I used to spar with a friend of mine twice my size and I could never get out of this master lock. Because he was massive and his arms were big. But when I tried this on him it totally worked. Thanks Karv Maga. You guys are my "go to" defence always.

    Just did this today to my friend who came from behind and locked me in a full nelson from behind. Never even practiced it before and never thought it will be useful in real life but it did and after he fell down I immediately got on top and blocked his hands. We bought weigh about the same (~145 pounds) but he is taller than me.

      haha! literally just watched that episode then searched this after raditz and goku died.
      I 've been put in this position a few times before, and in my experience the person will straighten out their arms, increasing distance, while subsequently raising your arms up, which makes this defence impossible other than by strength and brute force.

    Guys im ex military us navy and krav maga is at the top of the totem pole as far as fighting styles, its self defense in its purest form and that is to not stop attackers by twisting their wrist its stopping your attacker with lethal force, and with great power comes great responsibility you wouldn't use this on the guy that cut you off or took your parking spot but the guy whos trying to rob you or hurting your family or an innocent person will work on anyone heavy set or light as a feather if done correctly it works!

    • @contemporaryfightingarts8963

      I agree in a way, my dad was in sas and said to me that there is no top of the food chain when it comes to martial arts or self defence, its not what you no but how you use it and most important how you aply it to the situation you're in, he also says that if anyone try's to say that because it's taught to the army it's got to be the best tell them bullshit, hand to hand combat is the least important aspect to army combat, even for him and his unit relied on stealth to complete operations. But like I said I do agree that some arts are more combative than others.

      Owin Hernandez they are pretty similar in style. They are just a collection of the most deadly and easy to learn moves, but that doesnt mean they are more deadly then others it just means they only thought about killing when they put the collection together. Also as I tell my students they are both made for solider's who are big strong men who have excellent fitness, soif you're not that fit or strong you might struggle, im not saying one's better than another I would suggest giving it ago and see how you get on

    If the person has trouble lifting them I might not suggest extending your leg behind them completely as shown prior to taking them backwards onto the floor. This may likely end in a broken leg....
    ... instead half extend your leg maintaining a decent enough barrier to prevent a step around but also so that if they land the middle of your leg in the struggle at least your knee is bent. 👍

    My brother and I spar sometimes just as a little bit of training, exercise or to practice new techniques we learned or came up with.
    He put me in a full nelson so what I did was quickly go for a forward roll and hold out me leg behind me, so I'm using my momentum to throw them.

  • @FitnessOver60
    @FitnessOver60 10 років тому +18

    Yeah, this is straight out of the standard Hapkido playbook, I had to learn the same move on my way to BB, and I don't agree with it, 1. no one 'attacks' you by putting you in a full nelson, 2. no one is going to just stand there and let you grab his legs as you neatly step aside, he's going to counter immediately (half a dozen counters come to mind) and 3. no one in their right mind would attack this dude! :) He looks like a badass and probably has many more effective moves than this one, probably not representative of his instruction. Just don't agree with it.

    • @glenyeo2980

      There are always counters to a move, if you want to know whether this is a viable move, a wrestler would be the best to ask.

    • @FrancisMaxino
      @FrancisMaxino 10 років тому +3

      My Dad is built like a bear and was also a wrestler. He showed me the simplest and easiest way to slip out of this hold. If you are in a standing position, relax, do not lean forward like he demonstrates but merely raise your arms straight up and drop straight down really quickly, the full Nelson is a far more effective hold if you have them face down on the floor, the same raise your arms technique still works as a counter but requires much more strength and effort if they are really heavy and it is easier to slip out of if you can get up onto your knees. This is the standard wrestler approach.

    • @FrancisMaxino
      @FrancisMaxino 10 років тому +1

      The full nelson would be done by a wrestler, you know Greek style, the standard counter is just raise your arms and drop...you slip out fast and do whatever...if you hit them in the nuts with the back of the heel they might get more angry tighten their grap and faceplant you still in the hold....just thoughts....

  • @MsHhhunter
    @MsHhhunter 8 років тому +18

    The full nelson is a very useful technique. If you're on the street fighting and you manage to get your attacker into the FN, pick him up off the ground and swing his head into the nearest concrete wall---game over. Trust me

      I always wondered what would happen if you did it to someone then I tried it on this guy acting a fool in a bar I was in. Only I took him to the wall twice but not swinging with all I had. I thought I had killed the guy. So if you do it, only do it once and DO NOT put everything you've got into the swing or you'll kill him dead as hell.

      You don't have to lift them up. When you put your leg behind the person, you reach down, grab behind their knees and pivot them on your thigh that is behind them and fall backwards on to them. This is actually the late phase escape in my Krav class. If you pick up on it fast enough, you can pin their arms under yours and to your sides, then you start elbowing the fuck out of their face. Thats early phase. The mid phase is they get their arms up behind you but they haven't started pushing you down yet. You put your hands in front of your forehead. That keeps you from being pushed over. Then you reach back and try to rip their fingers off of their hands. If you're too late, you move on to what you see in the video. This is my wife's favorite way to get out of a hold.

      +Wade Trillson This is a variation on a defense against a rear naked choke. Trust me on this, if you can pick the guy up just 1/4 inch off the ground by keeping your back straight and then fall back on him like this it will work against a significantly larger person on a hard surface. You're basically pile-driving them head/spine first into the ground.
      I'm 160lbs, and I can do this against a 240lb person without much trouble. Take away the mat and that person is, at best, hurting from the impact. In reality, if you can get their feet 1mm off the ground you may well kill them on concrete or asphalt.

    • @metalandproud2126
      @metalandproud2126 9 років тому

      +Wade Trillson Bend your knees slightly. The is a ki technique I have learned. You can widen your stance slightly, and still bend your knees. If they don't bend you forward, try to wrap a leg behind his. That should keep him from picking you up. Bend your head back, that should put stress on his fingers. Foot stomps should work too.I was at a dojo and, some bigger tried to psych me out and, say he could take me down any time. He tried a different technique than a full nelson. He wrapped his arms around my waste, and I grapevined my leg around his. He couldn't pick me up. He tried to tackle me, and I used a guillotine choke lightly. Since he was not to smart, he kept on trying and failing.

      Hi, I've been in wrestling for a few years... If you're on your knee caps and hes behind you with full nelson best option is to kick your legs out and basically do like a crab walk with your legs then keep creating space intil his arms are barley holding on then thats when your turn. by that you crab walk away stop and turn lets say to your right and go back to your knees. if done correctly he should let go and you guys should be face to face

    • @aaronb4571

      or you know, if someone tried this on me i could just step my leg behind his when he tries to throw is hips to the side, taking away any and all leverage that he has, but most likely I wouldn't even put him in a full nelson hold, it would be far more effective to simply joke him out, but if I was to have someone in this hold, i wouldn't stand there and let this dude try this counter, I would be applying pressure and forcing him to remain upright, so this counter wouldn't work, its way too easy to avoid this move, he has to step behind my leg, throw hi hips back, and bend down to get leverage, that's 3 moves, I just have to step back to keep the advantage, that's one move, giving me an advantage, but like i said this is isn't a submission hold, this is a stalemate hold so I would only ever use this if I had someone else to continue pounding the guy, in which case the guy who is alone will lose every time

      The position of the body and lift itself could be done against someone far heavier easily. Lift with your legs and keep your back straight. If you are much smaller and cannot wrap your arms around someone's lower legs, you can still get them to go down and release. Note that to having two people with that kind of size disparity would be rare. We are talking about and adult fighting a child or someone seven ft.+ against a small woman. Look specifically for videos with woman doing proper takedowns or try the words leverage, a smaller (defender/woman), against a larger (opponent/attacker/man).

    • @MaxLohMusic
      @MaxLohMusic 10 років тому +1

      Clarence Baluca It will be 10x more effective if you have a complementary throw in the opposite direction (forwards) that you can use as an alternative, then you use the appropriate one based on which way he's leaning or fake one and switch the other. Since I have no idea what forward throw would be effective while tied inside a full nelson, my only advice would be: Fake as if you're trying to throw him forwards which makes him go on his heels to resist, then execute this maneuver (the variation taught at the end). Of course it probably wouldn't work on the wrestler in your class if he doesn't fear or get tricked by the forwards movement, but an average person would be tricked.
      No technique works 100% of the time. The fact you're in a wrestling club means you're already miles ahead of the average self-defense junkie. Also there's a lot of techniques that won't work on a large wrestler that do work on a large non-wrestler.

      I'm not sure if you watched the whole video in full. First off, you are not supposed to lift with your back, you lift with your legs. Second point, the second half shows how you do it if you cannot lift with your legs - you trip them or mess up their balance, and let gravity take care of the rest.

    • @davisutton1
      @davisutton1 10 років тому +1

      Treat your spine as a column. It's not necessary to be massively strong. It may be a problem if you are extremely frail but here I do mean 'extremely'. If you are of reasonable strength and thin this should not be an issue. It's similar in some sense to the hip throw. It's a minimal movement. You are not literally picking them up and throwing them on the ground but (in a hip throw) strategically positioning your hips, lowering your centre of gravity and rolling them around. It takes negligible strength, done properly.
